Prophet/JAMin/818 Pro/Whatever you want to call it.. - JAM, MDA Compact, S100 General

Howdy, long time reader, first time poster...
I totally fell in love with the HTC series of Pocket PC's after my mate got himself a Himalayan, it's everything i neeed (read: want).
Ive spent the past few days reading through these forums and a few others on the merits of the magician. I like it.. i was totally convinced i was gonna get one.. then i stopped, Win Mobile 2003! :|
So then i saw the prophet and i've noticed there was quite a bit of talk over the previous weeks about it coming to australia soon.. Does anyone have any when? and under what name?
I'm planning on switching providers when i get my JAM or JAMin.. so one last question, does anyone know if any of the major telcos in Australia are bringing it soon?
I hope i dont have to settle for a Magician thats going to be totally out dated by the time im upgrading my phone again.
Thanks in advance..

It's gonna be called I-Mate Jamin' expect around mid-Feb in Australia. Telstra usually deals with I-Mateso you can buy through them on a plan but if you want to buy outright...try calculatorking.com.au which bundles i-mate GOLD warranty (2 years + emergency phone in case your set goes for repair, 24 hour support)

So i did some research today and last night, spoke to many people about the prophet and alot of them have no idea it exists
Seems like O2 have no intention of doing a Prophet based device.
iMate customer service had no idea, so they put me onto CellNet (the australian iMate distributor) and they say march/april
Expansys says it'll be out in 4-6 weeks.
Everyone i spoke to at telstra/vodafone/optus had no idea it existed.. telstra say however, they wont launch the fone for a month after it comes out as they test all their fones for a month before selling them.
Spose i'll be waiting a few weeks or getting a K-Jam

HTC prophet
Order from Expansys HK...they appear available within 3-7 days..

Just a guess, at least for our Asia-Pacific region - since Dopod & O2 are both targeting the same countries and markets, there would be a clash of interest if O2 marketed the same Dopod-branded HTC devices.
Since Dopod is with HTC, O2 has selected (or had no choice but to select) Quanta.

The "definitely true" was in response to to Ruxton's comment that "there are no O2 devices based on the HTC prophet". It's definitely true... because it is. There *ARE* no O2 devices based on the HTC Prophet.
My next sentence, the "guess" as you put it (and yes, it is a guess), was my "expecation" that O2 will not come out with anymore HTC devices.

Makes sense as Quantum are not new to the PC Market at all. You have to admit the Atom is a pretty good first start with a Pocket PC of this size, ok so there are a few niggles but nothing an update can't sort

There was a ROM update for the Atom already and that didn't solve much. It just made the device usable from what I've read. What is this then, a BUY IT NOW, USE IT 3 MONTHS LATER offer from o2?

I was WRONG! O2 Germany (at least) is doing the HTC Prophet as "O2 Neo"
http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=2868
Available sometime in Spring at an unknown price is O2 Germany's version of the HTC Prophet known as the Xda Neo (who comes up with these names?). Perhaps the most noteworthy bit of the announcement is the fact that the Xda Neo will include AKU 2.0 - effectively adding some long-awaited features such as stereo support over Bluetooth (A2DP) and the MSFP (the final piece of the puzzle in Microsoft's push-email solution).
Don't think this will be available in Asia

Hey There Guys,
i'm sliding off topic - Sorry.
my g/f is currently in New York and i would like her to get me a device (Neo/Jamin/Prophet).
do you know which operator sells it there or where can she get it? (do they sell Sim Free devices?)
what is the ~price?
Thanks ahead and Sorry for my bad English,
Lior.

Dear Nash,
Thank you for contacting O2 Asia Technical Support.
With regards to your query below, O2 Asia has not released a camera
patch
for
the XDA II Mini. Our engineers are currently looking into the
possibility
of releasing
a Windows Mobile 5.0 upgrade for the Mini (No further news at the
moment).
Thank you.

Dude, you're 33 days late. I doubt Mark Njo said that. And who wants that slow WM5 anyways? I'd rather have 128MB or more RAM.
Wat did u mean that i am 33 days late???
Dude are ya trying to say this is a lie???
Which date did we have 33 days ago?
You can tell whether it is a lie or not by reading this thread.
Ppl i just thought u guys wud be happy to find out there was still hope..chatty buddy this was a mail sent to the guys at o2 to get asnwers this is wat i got..try and be nice i was just sharing info..
Yo Nash,
April fools has been long due, so I guess O2 Asia has fooled you too. I believe you in that you received this answer, problem is that the subject is just a little tensed (you'll be struck be lighting if you even think about posting something optimistic :-( )
For one of the latest camera & album version you can use this ftp://xda:[email protected]_Magician_T-Mobile_WWE_RC28_Customize.CAB
Take care, M
Thanks Buddy i get wat ya sayin
Come on... be real about it. The Magician is powerful, nice and small device. But it is dead to HTC and their resellers. Optimism was nice when the device was current. It's like waiting for a new AmigaOS... useless!
The one delivering WM5 to the Magician will be celebrated forever, but I don't see any sense in opening more and more threads: "Pssst... I heard something... believe me... source is absolutely reliable... WM5 goes Magician... next month... if not sooner..."
We'll all be happy if it happens... till then we better be quiet about that.

Has sony given up on the X1?

Its the little things that i've been noticing about the X1
Spelling Mistakes on Panel download page and xperia.com "Mytopia Panle"]
Nearly all the links are broken on http://www.sonyericsson.com/x1 (UK)
CNN and Mytopia panel still listed at "coming soon"
It used to be free to call X1 Support line in UK - now you have to pay 10p/min
Under new software available it still says the latest is 02-13-2009 (on the UK site yet the date is in American format)
Seeing none of the new things in R3A too was annoying
Have they compleatly given up on the X1 because its as if they are not even trying - i signed up the the Sony Ericsson news on the x1 site - did they email me about the R3A update? Noooo
I have to get everything and news from XDA!
Have they given up on it?
maybe they don't keep the uk site uptodate

... they've probably dumped it in preparation for the X2.
The US site is months behind any other.
We don't have a R3 update.
We don't even have a CNN Panel download or "coming soon"
We have to buy the X1 outright because none of our carriers offer it.
X1a came out three months after the X1
I'm growing tired of SE.
I went through the same thing with the C902 that was rushed out with a lousy firmware. Had to change my CDA to a german code to update to a stable firmware.
I need to relocate!!!
i guess i made the right choice going to touch HD
How many more hints do we need that SE has moved on?
1) Updates are minimal and unannounced.
2) SE hasn't made any money. Revenue was "break even"
3) The CEO has already said that the X1 was a failure.
SE's minimal resources are probably being dedicated to the X2.

Me too, I am getting tired of my NAM firmware...sometimes I consider updating to the UK Rom, which I know is much better than NAM.
There is something about me though, I guess I am a nationalist. I'm losing hope for America though...I am tired of reading about europeans getting 5 brand new touch HD's for the family contract when in America we have to get a crappy "basic phone" with our family contract.
from myside, i returned to the r2a rom (uk). got pissed off by r3a. my keyboard became hard to press and other annoyances i got tired off, so i switched back to the old r2a, which did work well, at least for me. im thinking of losing this phone too. i am really in great dismay because i have been so excited getting this phone, only to find out that it sucks.

x2 set for november release in the uk

looks set for november according to vodaphone uk (which has a exclusive deal in the uk).
link:
http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/coming-soon/mobile-phones
also under details it says no stereo fm radio (but specs can change, as there is still about 2+ months to release).
Where does it say exclusive to Vodafone?
hmmmm.
it would be extremely disappointing of them to release a bigger phone with less features. i'm still hopeful that it will have an fm radio.
i'm also worried about having to do without xda for things like tf3d.

Absolutely. I have used it a couple of time while running and a couple of times for news, but there was one time that convinced me of its usefulness.
Me and a couple of friends got together to watch a football game. Unfortunatelly the game was abroad and no Bulgarian channels were showing it. We got it streaming on the net, but there was no commentary. So, we plugged my X1 to the sound system and listened to the radio commentator. X1 ftw!

As an o2 customer, that spells the end of me journey with SE and Windows Mobile.
Since my X1 was stolen (insurance company unable to replace it, so have given me cash) I have been considering my options. Thought I would just get another X1 as nothing else came close to the form factor and the fact that I have invested in accessories for it too.
My friends have been trying to persuade me to go for an iphone. In fact my brother has given me his old X1 (minus the volume button) and bought the iphone 3gs. He's really happy with it, but then the X1 was his first win mobile and he is not in to the whole eco system, custom ROM's etc, so I never saw his relationship with the X1 lasting anyway
The X2 was my little ray of sunshine. For all it's minor updates it looks a suitable replacement. Maybe not an upgrade but hopefully a more rounded device with some X1 issues ironed out.
I can't go to Vodafone and not sure of the price of a sim free X2, so it looks like I am going to go to the dark side.
It took me about a week to get my 2nd X1 anywhere close to how I would like it. That's many hours of installing custom ROM's and applications etc.
Maybe I'm just looking fo something easier for a while. As much as I dislike Apples dictatorship ( I used to work for MS) I think it's time I gave it a go!!
Maybe with WM 7 and the marketplace, I will be back in the future - I hope so!

it's not their fault that you couldn't wait they sold you a device with 512 mb ROM. They didn't lie or something. it's like i buy an iphone 1g and say after 3 years: "if you don't upgrade this to 3gs, ill sue you."
anyways a lil bit more ram/rom isn't a big deal for me.

it's not their fault that you couldn't wait they sold you a device with 512 mb ROM. They didn't lie or something. it's like i buy an iphone 1g and say after 3 years: "if you don't upgrade this to 3gs, ill sue you."

It's not their fault I could not wait? Wait for what exactly? Oh... wait for the new slightly upgraded HD2 that was so very clearly publicised and advertised? Can you show me where it was publicised that there would be a new version released so I could make a choice?

If this (RAM/ROM) is the only change (apart from band changes) that's all fine - however I have a sneaky feeling they will also have sorted out the pink camera issue (new lens perhaps) with these later revisions - in which case I will definitely demand an upgrade.
Sooo poor
UK Vodafone HD2 user. We've already been stiffed over the poor quality of the early ROM's with camera quality, stability issues and lets not mention the on going saga that is the stuck sms issue in the outbox which hasnt been rectifyed yet and now this!
We truely have been stiffed on this one which the release of double ROM and upgraded Ram in the US. They should allows us to sub our phones in like Apple and O2 did when they upgraded iPhones from Edge to 3G v.quickly for those on £40 or more contracts could swap their phones for free.
I'm just worried that the US device will be the minimum required for Windows Mobile with the push they are making, leaving Europe and Asia with no official upgrade. If they had to replaced all those outside the US that's a great hassle no company or indeed consumer will wish to endure.
This is bull****, what are HTC playing at? To me this is the equivalent of buying a gamesconsole and then a few months later they release one with more ram so it can play games which the first version cant i.e....windows mobile 7, I bet ours cant and theirs can.

Email HTC and demand clarification. The more people do that the more likely some action from HTC on the issue. I agree with what you say...

If true, the above is all that needs to be said.

it's not their job to publicise everything they are gonna publish like the nexus one: rumor, rumor, rumor; 1 week befor release: official. it's like general knowledge. If i buy a phone now, the retailer won't tell me: oh, if you wait another 5 months, there will be better phones on the market.
dude it's technology. everything is improving over time. and they are NOT supposed to advertise everything
