Weird battery - Touch GSM General

I noticed something very weird with my ELF's battery. I chraged my ELF and made a restart to my ELF. The battery was 42% and when my ELF woke up again, the battery was ~78%. Is this normal?

There maybe some issues with the battery.
But before that.
How long can the phone battery's last for you?

Battery lasts ~2-3 days, if I charge without restarting it.

Phone's Normal.
Battery ok.
Have a good night sleep and dont worry about it.
I think that even if it is raised to 78%, it will go back down to 40% too.
My friend had this problem in his old motorola too.

Hi
I got this issue in my elf since it came out of the box it gives false battery indication fter reset but if you make a call it drops back to true level
it hs no effect on phone

its okay.
you might want to hard reset and/or flash to cooked roms, like onyx and see how it goes.

Are you guys using a original htc battery?
It should have HTC logo at the back.
If all else fails, get another battery from friends or ebay and try it.

My battery status always showing 100% - help!

Hi!
Just changed to a new 3rd-party battery and I was told to charge it for 10hrs before use. So I did. I left it overnight and guess what?
Now, I my battery status always showing at 100% - never drop even after hours of using. I even took out the battery and put it back but it still remains at 100%
Short of hard resetting is there any way to modify the registry setting temporary to get rid of this nuisance
Any help? Thanks
This has been dealt with on the Universal Accessories part of the forum - search there and you will see a long discussion about. You probably have a duff battery.

Is it a Cameron Sino battery? I've had 3 and they all do this. I think it's just a fault with their batteries.
Cheers,
Steve.
My advice to you is to get an extended battery.
I had problems with all the generic batteries (even the ones that look like the original).
As soon as I got an extended battery, all the issues went away.
It's big, ugly and expensive, but at least I can use the Universal for another year until the batteries start developing problems again.

Or simply get hold of an original battery - they work fine.

You all are right. I took my previous battery and it does show the correct status.
My new battery still can be used but I just make sure I charge it every night just in case
Thanks for the advices

Multiple problems after installing 1.48

I don't even know why did I update, 1.43 worked fine for me. After I installed 1.48, I've noticed several problems:
- battery drains a lot faster
- problem with the auto lock, or lock with "end" button - after I want to use the device again, it won't turn on all the time, buttons glow, but nothing happens
- few times phone didn't wanna dial some people when I enter their contact and try to dial their numbers
Anyone experiencing similar issues? Both versions of ROM (1.43 and 1.48 are WWE East Europe)
can't be that I am the only one facing these problems in 1.48
hehehe seems u are tryed to flash 1.48 a second time?
I seem to be having a problem at the moment with 1.48 where sometimes (usually) if I plug in my phone to the computer it freezes up. Only way to solve it is to take the battery out.
Don't know if it's to do with 1.48 or some other program I've installed. Doesn't seem to do it all the time but it really p!ssing me off. That battery cover isn't easy to get on and off. Why on earth didn't they put a small reset button somewhere like on my trusty Trinity.

I reverted to 1.43 WWE East Europe, downloaded from HTCPedia, but seems like battery is again draining a lot faster than on my stock ROM. I don't know what whas the catch in my stock ROM, the one I got when I bought the phone, but seems like battery was far best on it.
It was 1.43 WWE East Europe as well btw, I have no clues..
the problem with battery is with htc sense. You can notice this disabling it for a day and using the Windows default. It is a huge diference
Im using 1.48 official and not get any special problem....
Yes, sometimes after reboot my device I not get lock of screen. But if to do long press of OFF button and choise LOCK then all works fine. Also, I have problem with Skype, but it not special problem, I think.
Battery works about 1-2 day with my style of using device. It mean 1-2 hour of speech, WiFi when available, Inernet browesing and checking mail every 10min. I think, this normal.
With 1.48 I have more faster connect to WiFi, more stable connect in GSM and more natural sound.
May be, I will reflash my device to 1.43, but now Im happy from 1.48.
i have the same battery drain with 1.48,
back to 1.43
I have similar problems. 1.43 was working great for me and I thought I could get a little more out of my HD2 with 1.48. Turns out not. Battery life has decreased, the phone crashes every now and then (as opposed to never with 1.43) and the camera takes horrid pictures with the flash. I am thinking of reverting back to 1.43. I am using the Western Europe ROM.
I will now wait for official HTC roms before installing anything.
Sure you can disable Sense and have huge battery life but that sort of defeats the purpose of the HD2 in my opinion.
Bear in mind that WM seems to take a little time to 'calibrate' the battery with each new ROM. Various threads I have read suggest anything from 2-3, up to 10 or more battery drain/recharge cycles before you get a true reading.
Ditching a new ROM after only a day or two may therefore be a little previous...

Strange with 1.48 I can take really great photos which I couldn't with 1.43. My phone since I have flashed it to 1.48 never hang/crash but battery drains very fast.

I had also read something like that regarding the battery and new roms.
example for Energy ROMs
BATTERY SAVING TIPS
The first few days
• There is nothing special about this ROM to make it use more power than other ROMs except that it is tweaked for performance over battery life. After things have settled down, you should get a couple of days usage out of a charge.
• Immediately after flashing, you will probably observe very poor battery performance. This is due to the charging circuit having to reset itself.
• The battery meter will not settle down and give accurate readings for a few battery cycles. Give it a few days.
• For the first few battery charging cycles, try to charge to 100% with phone off and then allow battery to drain down quite a bit before recharging. This is so the meter will calculate drain well.

Battery drain & other issues
I am not having iszues with 1.48. battery drain.
I heard this so often in the HD forum but never experienced it, and I was flashing Miri's roms every second day.
If people mean their battery runs down very quickly after a flash, well it takes a lot of power to reboot, and then you are probably going to run the device for a while to get all your settings back. Well this I have experienced, but next charge, no problems. I flashed yesterday and recharged overnight and after a day of use my phone had 50% left. No issues yet either.

Was about to agree with you when i noticed something today: i usually charge my phone overnight (it doesn.t matter how much battery i have i just do it to be sure) but few nights i left it without a charge and notice 3% to 4% battery drain overnight (1.43 rom). After update(1.48) i left it overnight and noticed 11-12% battery drain(even though i left my phone for a few days to get used to the new rom). Don.t want to jump to conclusions yet but there could be something about battery drain in the new ROM.

Very hot phone, battery life under 2hrs

I was recently on one of the old Dutty ROMs (V2.1 XTREME) and decided to upgrade to something newer, so I got the latest "phoenix" EnergyROM (Dec 17th) and flashed that using USPL SD bootloader.
The problem then arose that they phone was always extremely hot, specifically on the back down the bottom just above where the plastic cover for the antenna(s) is.
The battery would not charge to 100% and tBattery showed that it was drawing up to 400mA all the time, this is when plugged in and sitting on 99% charged. On a call (while plugged in) for ~20min the battery will also drop 50%.
I then did the following, which has had no affect;
Hard-reset, flash "leo" EnergyROM, hard-reset, flash Miri 6.5 ROM, hard-Reset, flash to the original Dutty v2.1 (when it was working), hard-reset.
I have tested the phone in-between all these procedures and even tried using a different (aftermarket) battery, all to no avail.
The engineer in me says it's a hardware issue, but I would like to think it's a software issue, something running at 100% consuming too much power.
I'm now looking for any ideas or advice on what could be the cause, since I have a phone that is practically unusable when not plugged in.
Cheers!

Could also be a faulty battery as I've tried to roms you mentioned and did not have the same issue with battery. If not battery it could be a hardware issue. You can buy a cheap battery easily to test this
I've already tried a second battery as I mentioned, doesn't make any difference at all.

Have you ensured that all data connections are closed, Beam turned off and no automatic updates are ticked (weather, stock, email etc). If so, then it sounds like a faulty device.
Does the exact same thing even with wireless off and in aeroplane mode.

Defo faulty device then
Hi Gussy,
I agree with Fallen Spartan and I think it's a hardware issue (battery issue).
Please try the following:
(1) Charge the battery to 100%.
(2) Disable from running or uninstall any 3rd party applications.
(3) Disable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi,
(4) Enable flight mode
(5) Set backlight to maximum settings.
(6) In the power management settings, uncheck any option that would set the backlight to turn off.
(7) Let phone stay idle for 1 hour and check battery capacity.
(8) If there is a loss of 40% or more, then this means that battery is faulty and needs to be replaced.
Regards.
Battery won't charge to 100%, only 99%.
I have done pretty much that test already, a few times, with the original and a new battery, and neither lasts the 1hr.
Ah sorry, yep sounds like a faulty device. Is it under warranty? I don't think you could even flash back to stock ROM and Radio if you are planning to return the device (even if still under warranty) because of the power consumption issue
It have about 7 days of a 1 year warranty left, from the eBay seller I got it off. Sent the guy an email, don't expect a reply though.
I can flash back to stock, I just keep it plugged in and it works fine.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm interesting.
my hd as been displaying the exact same symptoms for near on a month now,
i assumed the battery was cooked but its near identical to your issues,
i aquired a hero around the same time it started playing up so i aint been that bothered but reading this got me thinking its time to think about sending it off for repair.
if as i think you meant nrgz28s rom then i also flashed the 17th dec 6.5 dusk rom build 28014.
i cant be 100% sure thats the exact time the problems started but its very close if not the exact time.
the phone was purchased around mid december last year so about the same age if yours was new.
coincidence or contract concspiracy lol?
Could this be caused by a faulthy radio>!
Hmmm, could be, but most probably still the hardware error.
Altough, combination of very mismatched radio and RIL could cause simillar symptoms...
Best check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=466274
I had a similar problem.
Drain battery to about 5 - 10%
Turn phone off
Charge from a wall charger (not usb or car)
Do this a couple of times.
It fixed mine for about 6 months and then I just did it again and it sorted it out again.
Also check which radio. 1.17 seems to run cooler by most accounts.
I was initially thinking that there is a program or piece of software maxing out the resources and the cpu causing the extreme heat (the HD gets bloody hot when being pushed) and poor battery life.

[Q] battery driver issues

i currently own 3 units of s200 and have flashed them with cooked roms. however i have discovered a very disturbing fact about almost all the ccoked roms here - the battery driver is screwed up. i ended up changing 2 of the 3 phones battery because it only charges till 55% and 74% respectively, the 3rd phone charges to 95% and is stuck there
2 of the devices came from a same build september 2009 and the third phone is from jan 2010( i guess because it only says on the service receipt).
am i the only one who is experiencing this or there are more of you who had been infected by this bug?
i finally flashed all three phones with 3.03c official for malaysia/singapore
one more thing i noticed, all the roms effected were using somekind of tsowens taskbar icon as well as using non acer dialer.

Which Custom ROM did you used?
used a couple of kubino's
arto's latest
one of yours. (if i remembered correctly... i have to check my download folder)
additional info, the battery will get stuck on the last maximum charge before flashing... lets just say i have 55% batt and i flashed a custom rom... after flash, the battery will not charge more than that.
(it is safe to say that you must flash the phone in 100% batt... my bad, i flashed as soon as the charge goes over 50%... pardon my obsessive flashing disorder)
i even have left the phones connected to the charger overnight and in the morning it is still displaying the same level of charge (+ over heating = almost dead battery = buying 2 mugen 1500mAh's)... at first i thought it was a minor battery update lag bug, but the phones will die within 5 to 6 hours. sometimes they will be switched off for no apparent reason
i seriously want a 6.5.x rom running on all 3 devices because of the touch friendliness but the fact that it gives me battery errors turns me off.
just hope i can use custom roms like i used to on my previous htc devices.

Well your battery is broken.
I have already flashed with only 30 % of battery and nothing happened. Have also flashed my Phone over 200 Times in the last 6 months, in the last 3 days over 50 times - and the battery is still functioning without any problems.
On my Sencity ROM it holds for 2 days without loading.
thanx for feedback
i think i'll experiment on a few more roms. as far as my devices go, the problem was rom specific where flashing the stock rom eliminated the issue.

In my opinion, it is the issue of your battery, not the driver. If you use the original battery, you will find it works fine! The high capacity battery maybe need the special charger. Maybe just because the phone can not recongnize the battery's capacity.
By the way, I found that the battery does not work well with the new style roms. The battery always exhausts faster than the old style rom. For instance, the rom 23140 exhausts battery faster than rom 21057. My battery can stand by for neary 4 days with rom 21057, more than 3 days with rom 21895 or 219xx. But it can only stand by for about 2days with rom 23140 or 28xxx.
well the drivers are just ****ty
i searched thru the forums to find out what is missing... and i find then post that says new roms = new base drivers = recalibrate battery
guess what, i recalibrated my battery even the "broken" ones. now all are working perfectly.
the catch
1. recalibrate all batteries
2. delete any battery icons / taskbar enhancement (can be reinstalled after all this)
3. use any regedit find string "state" without the quotes. find "battery", and change all values to 0
4. charge batteries without turning on device, wait till light is green.
5. turn on device, make sure battery % is showing 100%
6. take off batteries, wait 10 seconds, reinsert battery
7. push vol+ and vol- and press power button (hard reset device)
8. voila... perfect charging battery
tested for 1 day already. the broken battery were not broken after all, its the battery driver. it will not make changes or detect changes from the battery because its from a different base driver (even if the drivers were said to come from official 3.03c bla bla bla.
sorry mates.. its not my batteries. if just one device its understandable. its from 3 seperate devices (one is actually my girlfriend's) so i made a conclusion that even roms cooked from same base will actually have a flaw that can kill your devices......... slowly
bottom note - only flash your phone at 100% batt and reflash stock rom in between flashes.
@ sinocreate
BTW the mugens were bought to replace 2 ORIGINAL batteries that had been damaged by the roms. do read the post carefully.
i think you are competent enough to understand my simple english.

In your step1:recalibrate all batteries. I just want to know how to recalibrate the battery?
I remember that the system can recalibrate the battery automatically from maybe WM6.1 or newer core...
recalibrate
set backlight to maximum
turn off powersaving
let the device run until it dies by itself
take out battery for 10 seconds
put it back in
turn on device
if device turns on - let it alone until it dies again
if the battery have fully discharge, hold the power button red led will blink
once you know battery is fully empty, you can
a. charge using the original acer desktop charger
b. charge using a phone with stock rom
c. charge using your phone (make sure phone is off until fully charge)
wait till green light. then you're done.
the premise of this.
1. every battery has a chip that tells the phone and power management system that either it is empty or charged (voltage level, temperature etc)
2. Flashing custom roms abrupts this transaction of info from battery to power management causing innacurate reading.
3. new base driver will detect different battery level, some are ok and some are not, unfortunately in my case it has a serious error.
4. recalibrating is just a remedy to make sure that both phone and battery starts reporting on power drain from 100 - 0
one more thing, if you think your phone is affected, charge at a minimum of 8 hours (sometime the green light will come out earlier due to the fact that it is not accurately reporting the battery charge)

Where did you find that? Because that is for the HTC Devices. The ROM's for the HTC's use different battery drivers.
For our Acer device there are drivers 2.002 and 3.003. None of the kitchen Chefs use the old battery drivers or replace something in the OEM package.
So, if I say to you that my ROM has 3.003 drivers then be shore - there is no difference between my ROM and the official Acer one.

yes there is a difference. new builds brings new improvements/change towards many features including power management. i am sure you have been around long enough to have experience improvement in kernel and memory management as well as power management.
driver 303c was specifically made for the old builds. not 6.5.3. so i guess the best way to be sure about the battery issue is to recalibrate. it is safe and it is free.

Yes, you are right. If the battery isn't functioning as it should - then it is best to recalibrate the battery.
But normally this won't happen if you first full charge the battery when you buy a phone and then turn it on.
thanks
brainmaster, nice rom by the way, thanks for cooking. i'm using one of your rom now, i recalibrate and getting a good battery life good battery life.
next order of business - waiting for someone to compile a linux kernel!!
hahaha

set backlight to maximum
turn off powersaving
let the device run until it dies by itself
take out battery for 10 seconds
put it back in
turn on device
if device turns on - let it alone until it dies again
if the battery have fully discharge, hold the power button red led will blink
once you know battery is fully empty, you can
a. charge using the original acer desktop charger
b. charge using a phone with stock rom
c. charge using your phone (make sure phone is off until fully charge)
wait till green light. then you're done.
the premise of this.
1. every battery has a chip that tells the phone and power management system that either it is empty or charged (voltage level, temperature etc)

Anyone else with this problem...?

Hello all,
I bought the HD a couple of months after it first was released and have never had this problem until about 3 days ago, where my phone has started to suddenly "die" even with ample battery life in it. When I reboot it, it simply starts to reboot then dies again as if the battery is dead, however, when I plug it into the charger, it shows that it has over half to almost full battery life. So the problem can not be that the battery is simply dying. What could be causing this problem? I have ample free main storage and program memory and it occurs even when there is only one program running or even when I'm just in the middle of a call.
Can anyone help me solve this problem? I have tons of medical programs in my phone which took forever to install and don't want to hard reset the phone, especially if that is not even the solution to the problem. Help?
Same thing happened to me, but my phone gets some water. I had to dry it and wait a month. Then it worked fine. If your phone hasn't took any water the problem must be elsewhere.
One question, it dies even if attached to the power? or only on battery?
If it dies only on battery then could be the battery not working properly.
bye
Batteries do weird stuff when they're dead. If it works OK on power but not on battery, chances are the battery is indeed on its way out. If you don't want to do a hard reset, a replacement battery on ebay is cheap and worth trying.
Hello,
I have exactly the same behavior. I changed of Rom, different build, each time running Task29, but it is always the same thing :
- when charged, phone never dies
- when on battery, it randomly dies but always when phone is awake
I think too it may come from the battery, so I just ordered a new one, and I'll keep you up to date.
Ciao,
Yea, so far it has occurred about 4 times, always when it's not plugged in however the battery meter shows alof of battery time left. I'm thinking it's the battery too, it just sucks to have to pay so much for an OEM battery. Oh well, thanks for the help everyone.
Hello,
so I received my new battery this morning.
After some phone calls and some tests...so far so good ! I'll tell you if something's change in the next days, but it seems changing the battery is the solution.
Cheers,
Mine started doing similar things. Guess I will order a battery too. Which one did you get?
Well I got the exact same one I had previously : an official htc touch hd battery.
Part number : 35H00120-01M.
I hope this one will last until I really want to change my phone .
Any more issues since replacing the battery?
still no issues so far. I am really happy because as the battery is new, my phone last much longer than before.
Same here. Got the new battery yesterday and it's back to it's old self. Now it should last me until the dual core processor Android devices come out next year.
Well it would be nice if my pnone only turned off when it wasnt on charge but it seems to just reset itself whenever it wants. it will simply turn off and start right back up sometimes not even reaching the rom load before it turns off again. It does this for a while or just simply once. I tried erasing all data off it and hoping it was something i uploaded but it could be that my battery is just no good anymore.
Any suggestions? ive been dealing with this for 6 months
I don't know about you, but I played quite a lot with my phone, trying a lot of ROM, for a while, even beta ones, and I tried to overclock it. Often the phone would heat up a lot. It may have be hard on the battery.
Right now I am using a stable rom of NRG from last month, with the new battery, and everything is fine. The phone never heat, and I happy for now.
Like Marksm, I am waiting for Android dual core phones or at least based on Tegra 2.
