Hello all,
I am going to be travelling abroad for a couple of weeks, but do not wish to use data whilst I'm on holiday (as my international data charges are VERY expensive)...
How to is disable data on my Magic? I don't want GMAIL to check my emails (push), and just want to use "normal" 2G phone service.
Anyone?
Perhabs
Settings
-Data Synchronization - Data Synchronization - Auto Sync & Bagground Sync
-Wireless Controls - Mobile Networks - Use only 2G networks
But iam not sure

I have a data plan and many programs that set to auto connect. But is there a way that I can force the data not connect?
I am worried about when I am roaming in other countries the roaming data fees are too high so I want to shut if off but keep the voice on.

Sure. You could simply go to Start Menu - Settings - Connections - Connections and delete your existing settings. Probably a really good idea to write them down first if you don't have them!
If your phone has WiFi you can still connect that way when you are in a hotspot and check email etc. I think the only thing that doesn't work over WiFi might be Exchange ActiveSync. If you don't use Exchange even that will not be an issue.
If your phone was provided by your cellular carrier it is possible the settings could possibly be hard to delete. In that case, try making additional dummy settings which you know cannot work (if you are not sure what to put base them on some jumbled up version of what you had before that cannot work) then make the dummy settings the default choice.
If you need more info post your carrier and the phone you have and we can try to give more specific advice.
You can use an app called Modaco NoData which gives you the options to enable or disable the different connections that you have on your phone (edge, mms, etc) I use it and it's great!
Hi -
I use my Mogul to synch up with my work exchange server. But the project I am on right now has me sitting in the basement and I cant get sprint there. So I have forced my phone to stay on Roaming all the time (it switches to verizon)
The issue is that on roaming Microsoft Direct Push does not work automatically. I have to manually go into my email and do a "SEND/RECEIVE" on my phone to get it to synch. Then it asks me that "YOU ARE CURRENTLY ROAMING. ADDITIONAL CHARGES MAY APPLY".
Well since i dont get charged for roaming, i want it to sync automatically just like when it is on the Sprint network. Is there a registry change or something i could do?
Thank you
is:
Programs > Activesync > Menu > Schedule
"Use above settings when roaming" checked?
YEAHHHHHHHHHH
That worked...!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love XDA!!!
How Often do you Sync
Hello
I too have my Mogul set to Sync over the air. It defaulted to "AS ITEMS ARRIVE" but I found that I was not able then to receive calls. I cahnged it to every 10 minutes and It works now. Is this the correct setting??
Mobo
I have mine set to "As items arrive" and i can receive phone calls while roaming and while i am not roaming.
So mine is working ok.
I gave my wife my old 8125 to use when her phone went out, now she's hooked on it & wants to be able to check e-mail. she dosen't have or want a data plan on it, and is home most of the time, but can't get to the computer b/c of other responsibilities.
I have set it up to access wifi, and it will use it for PIE, But when I set up the e-mail account it wants to dial out to check. I have tried setting the account to work, and internet but it just won't work, If I let it use medianet it's fine.
Any ideas?
I have not found a way to keep WIFI active at all times and doing so would kill the battery in just a few hours anyway. (seems to be more problematic on secure wifi networks)
This is the solution I use because I don't have an unlimited data plan and I don't want anything using the mobile phone network and thus being charged for data usage.
I stop GPRS on the phone using a freeware program called "NODATA". It toggles off the data connection to the phone company. The phone itself and text messaging still work without GPRS. I can then connect to a hotspot and everything else uses wifi instead. SMTP mail, internet browsing, google, search, etc. all flow through the wifi and I don't get billed for it.

Works great for me. Simply toggle GPRS back on only when you need it...
I've heard of others setting up "fake" GPRS connections settings and switching to those. Since the "fake" connection fails, it rolls over to WIFI. But this is much simpler.

Hi guys
After I activated my data services, I'm having problems with voice connections.
Usually(not always) it just kills my connection if i'm connected to data, but from time to time it says i cannot dial because my service is not available (or something like this).
is there a way to fix this?
I'm on vodafone Romania
hi, i have a Froyo HTC Desire there's a couple of thing I want to know.
I usually have a lot of correspondence via email (especially multiple gmail accounts) and i use my phone primarily when at home or on the go.
i set autosync and background data enabled all the time and set to update on very little intervals.
next, at work, i'll be relocated to a spot in the office that doesn't get any 3g/2g reception at all. and since i can access my mail through PC, i'm planning to just switch my phone to Flight mode while on my desk.
now my question. i've read a hundred times that Autosync eats a lot of jiuce. IF I put my phone in flight mode, and have no active connections or means to connect to any network, will Autosync still persist on connecting / syncing and drain my battery? or do i also have to manually turn background sync and autosync off?
if yes, is there an app that will disable Autosync persistence if flightmode is on or wifi/APN is off?
thanks in advance

Hi,
If I understand correctly you want to switch off any data communication of your phone.
I use a combination :
Sync Settings Version 1.0 - Free App
It places on your desktop a widget with 4 options.
wifi - on\off
Blu Tooth - on\off
Gps - on\off
Sync - Enable ..lets apps sync (incl Gmail.) Disable it disallows.
Brightness - quick controll over screen brightness
The second App I use is the DCSwitch - Free App
Creator described it best:
Code:
DCSwitch turns your data channel on/off to save battery power and/or bytes on a limited data plan.
Similar apps mangle the APN list of your phone, potentially leaving it with corrupt entries.
DCSwitch uses android's undocumented services to enable/disable the data connection in a clean, mean and concise manner.
With usig both of this apps ive been able to boost my battery life Alot. Also save some money on traffic.
Hope this helps you.
rgrds!
