Hi all,
I have my X1 and it is totally standard - I only have the Mobile Shell Panel downloaded. I notice some people have R3A installed... How do I go about doing this?
Basically, I am hoping to get my X1 totally up-to-date
Thanks,
Amnesia
Use SEUS to update your X1. You can get SEUS from sonyericsson website..
SEUS: http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/download/1/110/61/1241528352/Update_Service_Setup-2.9.5.16.exe

Panels Tweaks Programs Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=441439
Look at the sticky threads too for extra applications and panels etc.

Does anyone know if the X1 actually has TrackId or not? I don't think the SE site lists it as a feature, but several other sites that mention the phone seem to say that it does have it.
If it does have TrackId, is there any possibility that there's a cab file for installing it?
No, there is no TrackID installed on the X1. Maybe later on from SE will create a version for it.
here is an old version from the Kaiser rom. it still works, it just says Cingular instead of AT&T.
Yea, but this is a different application from SE's TrackID.
The basis for this thread is pretty simple.
Let’s create a list of ideas that could possibly be turned into xperia panels.
I figured that since the xda forums are pretty much the first place you would go for to get info it would also be a good starting point to initialise ideas for panels.
Turboguard mentioned some already.

The YouTube panel for example could be the "YouTube DeskTop Version software" integrated into a xml panel with an ability to choose other popular streams.
My suggestion would be a panel that allows you to remotely control winamp or wmp through bluetooh. There are tons of applications out there that do the job already but it would be awesome to have an acctual dedicated panel for it with maybe 4 big buttons and some track information.
I used to use a program called ControlFreak on my symbian that pretty much turned my phone into a remote control.. I wouldn’t mind having the same type of feel for winmo.
Maybe there will be coders out there who might be interested in turning the top suggestions from this topic into actual panels.
So fire away with your suggestions guys!!! ))
1 A ps3 bluetooth remote panel.
2 A blank panel similar to G-desk on uiq where u can make your own desktop as you wish with as many pages, shortcuts etc as you want.
3 A panel similar to fish panel but more colourful with different creatures.
As has been mentioned on other forums a BBC iPlayer for us UK users would be cool - given that Apple iPhone has one I can't believe they still haven't got a streaming client for WinMo yet....
A panel which has a nicer interface for email (as opposed to the rather drab version under WinMo)....
I'll think of some more later
Ah - for those interested in such things (and I am not) social networking panels i.e. Facebook etc. would actually really push on the phone in terms of popularity and thus attract more developers to the Panels concept....

Yeah, i miss my old G-Desk after leaving UIQ for Xperia.
I also miss a way to reinstall the original panels. I have lost some of them, today panel and media panel, after trying out sbp mobile shell. You can not download them and i dont want to do a reset.
What about a coreplayer panel? Just as a shortcut of the prog, like the media panel, but for the coreplayer.. Or just an DivX panel dunno, but I think a more detailed multimedia panel would be useful.. But I think hard work tough:s greez, cad^^

I think there is a way, look in windows folder, there is some cab's there that could be something, worth trying...
A youtube/online video panel and a facebook panel would be GREAT!
And I really liked Rontysee idea about a blank one where u can do whatever u like =)

Good idea, but there are no cab for MediaExperiencePanel or SonyEricssonPanel.
I had to restore them by restore the registry. Lucky for me that i had a backup.
It is a bit strange that you can not get the original panels from SonyEricsson download.
from what i've been able to see from looking at the sonyE sdk
then it should not be too much trouble porting any pure win32 c++
program into a panel
with .net one may have to make a c++ win32 stub which launch the .net
program in a frame
So who is going to be the first one to make a customized panel thats not official? I bet its going to be one from Xda =)
How about an appointment panel with all your appointments categorized and updated?

That sounds pretty encouraging!! All we need to do now is find a programmer))

Sounds like you might be interested in this program if the author made it into a panel format

They are supposed to be having a panel contest for a free X1 at Sony.

How about a Blackberry Connect panel? similar to the desktop of the Blackberry bold?
Market and Stock ticker panel
Flight, airport and destination info panel (a WorldMate Pro panel would be awesome!!)
Foreign Currency Exchange panel
Google Calculator panel (see yahoo widget of same name)
World Map & Time panel
News & RSS panel
Blackberry connect panel
Skype panel
Youtube panel
Facebook panel
LinkedIn panel
Meebo panel
Yeah - I travel a lot.....
Developer competition for X1
Hi all, I was pointed to this forum at inxperia.com because of this conversation about panels.
Thought you might like advance warning of a competition for windows mobile developers to build panels for the X1. Winner gets an X1 and their panels installed on the next batch of X1's.
I've posted more details on my blog. Hope you'll be interested
i wish as a panel, the TASKMANAGER DYNAMO. (the xperia panels are not comparable to a taskmanager with screenshot function.like dynomo... *G)
dynamo looks like xperia panels, but it takes actual screenshots of all opened applications, every time you switch the app.
it will integrate perfect to sony`s/htc`s (*G) UI design and will enhance it extremly.
thats, what in xperia`s panels is missing.
>"Panel Panel" if 9 panels aren't just enough
>Virtual pet panel
>I agree with the email panel
>Txt/MMS panel
>Panel with a "Cursor" (for optical trackpad)
>Instant Msging panel
>Windows Vista panel/shell (something like SPB)
looking at this site: http://xperiancers.com/2008/09/26/your-xperia-questions-answered/
To the right, there's a tag cloud could be a panel that links to apps, the more you use the app, the bigger/bolder the font.
AND the panel program must update there`s icons with actual screenshots of running apps.
(spezially the fish tank`s time!! and status of the fishes!)
Must Have 4 Free Spb Panel
here is a free cool panel: SPB panel 4 free!
(german version)

the x1`s inbuild links aren`t working... :-(
hi,
i'm trying to work out which shell replacement to use on my experia. i've used the full version of spb mobile shell on my kaiser and quite like the functionality although it looks pretty dull. i'm tempted to install TF3D but would like the opinion of someone who has used both as to which is better ?
unfortunately, i need the ability to go back to the standard wm homescreen as i don't think any of the shell replacements can take advantage of standard wm today plugins (i'm thinking david andr birthdays here which i use to warn me in advance of upcoming birthdays so that i can get a present in time ...)
does anyone have any opinions ?
thanks in advance ...
I use all.. I use WM today screen. and spbshell and tf3d.. I choose what I like at that moment. Thats why the panels are so handy
thanks kev!n - you don't find that your phone slows down at all ?
how do you access all 3 ? do you have TF3D set up as a panel od you access all 3 from panel 1 on your x1 ?
thanks
Yes I installed it as a panel. And acces it all with panels. And the phone did not slow down for me so I think its great
thanks for that. did you manage to get the full version of mobile shell working as a panel or are you using the panel version ?
mobile shell + pocket plus + phone suite all the way
TF3D is only a little eye candy no more, and I prefer more info on screen than good graphics on screen.
I have both installed (as panels). No problems here, running very nicely.
Using TF3D more, for the most part simply because the HTC Music Player is more touch friendly (although the eye candy doesn't hurt either if I'm being completely honest).
Can't really see a reason not to have both, especially now that TF3D is available in panel form (and also more stable in that form if others reports are to be believed).

I agree 100% i'm using both and they both work great. I'm hoping someone comes out with a WVGA skin for spb mobile shell panel. If not who knows i might try and make one myself.
Ever so slightly off topis but....
I've got the normal version of SPB MS installed rather than the free panel version. I can access the normal today screen at any time.
A senior member called GREATBAL has made some fantastic skins/mods for mobile shell, these worked perfectly on my Kaiser but unfortunately due to screen resolution they don't work on the X1.
Anyway I have PM'ed GREATBAL and he gave me this reply
'The Xperia-ish theme won'twork on the X1's screen resolution. But it would be very interesting to get hold of the graphics files in the X1 so we came make it into an MS theme. Those graohics files would be hi-res and suitable for VGA/QVGA devices. The images i used are drawn from scratch using photoshop based on screenshots i found on the net. but they are low-res suitable for QVGA devices only'
So if anyone can send these files to the great GREATBAL you never know what magic he could do for us!!
Greatbal has a wvga spb mobile shell theme. Ultimate Windows 7 or something like that. I doesn't work on the spb mobile shell panel but it might work on the full version. I dunno.

yup that is it. I took some screen shots and they are shown here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407487&page=64
I followed the installation instructions in the post and installed this last night including soft reset.
It crashed my X1!.........but soft reset again and its been fine.
It's an OK theme (for the time being).
Hmmm it didn't work for me at all. The theme is chopped off on the bottom.
Does anyone know how to change the default view on the panel version of SPB Shell so that it displays the 'home screen' when opening rather than the 'shortcuts' view?
I hope I've used the right terminology, I'm a bit of a noob.
Cheers,
Ronnie
Bump...
Thanks in advance.
I was wondering if there's any progress with porting the panels feature from the sony x1 into the htc touch diamond
I really liked that panels software and especially the fishes following your fingers...
there is a project porting x1 panels to touch HD. maybe when ists done, they will port it to other resolutions like touch diamond ones
i think modaco already was able to port panels to touch hd. due to the difference in resolutions it's not yet compatible to the diamond. i am interested in the panels as well. let me know if you find out anything more.
Would like to see the Xperia Panels ported to the Diamond too, particularly the Facebook one, though there is already another forum member working on a Facebook Application for Windows Mobile.
About the facebook panel..does it allow also facebook chat?
like to ask whether applications for diamond/pro/HD suitable for use in touch cruise?
any sites got free applications for touch cruise?
i need gprs data counter to prevent me from using over limit.
thx
This phone is a windows mobile (6.1) phone. It is compatible with any windows mobile software. You can look in this forum and elsewhere on the internet, there are plenty of compatible softwares.
There are however some ROM, user interface which are specifically related to one phone and may not be compatible with another. Usually it is indicated as a specific phone software.
thx
lets say if i installed a .cab file to iolite, i realised it's for diamond/pro/HD. Will it hang/corrupt my iolite?
i found some applications but im not sure whether i can use it on iolite. I only afraid crash/hang/corrupt it if i have installed a wrong .cab
*sorry for so many questions..im a new WMuser, my iolite will only arrive nxt week*
the iolite is QVGA, if the software have VGA and QVGA version, you have to choose QVGA...
