Hi,
AFAIK it happens when you disable the new 'fluid' interface of WM 6.5... The battery will show percentage as long as it's not connected to the mains.

Please install the file below.

WiFi, definitly ... EDGE/3G uses low power and only scrambles up when data is received or send. WiFi is always 'on fullspeed'

Disconnecting a GPRS connection

Hi, sorry is this seems a bit obvious or has been covered before....if I connect to GPRS for say email or www browsing, how do I force the disconnection of the GPRS after I am done ?
On the XDA I I could just click and then click 'end' On the XDA II I dont seem to have the same option.
Many thanks
Steve

Actually, there's no need to do that, as GPRS is meant to be "always on". Well, okay, it may drain your battery a little faster
So, to disconnect GPRS, just press and hold the red "hangup" hardware button for a few seconds.
Cheers
Daniel
I use Spb GPRS Monitor: you can connect and disconnect with one click
The easiest way to force disconnection of your GPRS connection is to hold down the red phone symbol for two seconds.

Always on GPRS - it's easy:)

I happened to stumble across a registry setting tonight that enables always on GPRS...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\(GPRS connection name)\AlwaysOn
Just change it from 0 to 1.
(GPRS connection name) is, of course, the name of your GPRS connection, and I'm not sure if that GUID is the same on every machine or not, but I only had about 5 GUIDs under Providers, so it shouldn't be too hard to find.
I've only played with this for a bit so far, but once you set this and soft reset it will immediately establish the GPRS connection and not automatically disconnect when an app is done with the connection. It still prefers the wifi connection when it's enabled.
I have no idea what this will do to battery life... hopefully not much.
Let me know how and if this works for you.
Brett
Hi,
i will try this for 2 days. Comming back with feedback ...
Ok,
installed the hack on my MDA Pro ..... after reset gprs is going online automatic. Thats very nice. After some seconds it switched to 3G network.
I am happy :`) lets see how it works over the next days ....
GPRS always on
It works like a charm!
I have an MDA pro.
Thanx for the tip
You sir are a genius!
Excellent find.
This should be a sticky.
Yep, well done Brett. You get to choose a sticker from the box!
(Mental how much kids love stickers...or was that just at our school?!?)
GPRS on
Great hack !
Made my day
Cheers

Sorry for asking you guys to do a step back and help an old 9500 user, with the following questions.
2. Pls tell me where to find the regedit program or where to buy it.
2. Does this mean that MSN will work more flawlesly than before? It turnes off all the time.

where is the key
I looked in the registry but was unable to find the key. I'm using XDAIIi with Win 2003 SE. Any ideas?

I don't have a machine with 2003SE to try it, but I'm guessing this is a WM5 thing.

I actually turn this back to the original settings when using wifi. When the registry is set to GPRS always on, it seems to slow the wifi connection on pcoket ie. If you check, it will show both connected and ie seems to be slower.

I haven't noticed that. Does it seem to run at GPRS speeds when you have a wifi connection, or does it just run slower than wifi only? I'm connected through wifi right now, and it does show both as being connected, but I'm definitely getting wifi speed.
When you change back and forth do you need to soft reset after the change or does it take effect immediately?

You will get a longer response time. But i don't think, that the transfer speed goes down. You need a soft reset to make the change active.

Atom Life Wifi problem

i have noticed that Atom & Atom Exec Wifi is strongerthan Atom Life. Life wifi is toooooooo weak. any solution?
Have you changed any of the wifi settings already? The default it low!
I found I had big problems with wifi unless the settings were perfect. It'd either work perfectly at work and at home or it'd be useless!

no changes.. can tell wich one from settings. i,ve changed lot. but same..
Although this is an Atom Life thread, I wanted to ask about the Atom Exec. When I use WiFi on it, I notice the unit gets VERY hot as if it were charging. Of course the battery drains like crazy.
Is this normal? It feels like if I leave WiFi on too long the thing'll melt.

Not a huge difference, but you'll notice your bar drained a bit at the end of the day. I just use internet on my dual. I dont know about your second question Sorry

Anybody uses wifi longer that 30 minutes on Ipaq 600 series?

Would you kindly share your experiences when using Ipaq 610, 612 and 614 with wifi on? Preferably when streaming with high bitrate (over 64 kbps) continually.
When i use it this way for example when listening to online radio, the PPC stops charging and the device gets hot!
I am currently using the battery replacement provided by HP but it's not showing any improvements. Infact its worse because it's stops charging even sooner than usual.
Am i the only one with this problem? The device recharges again only after i restart it.
Please share.
i do
when u use wifi disconnect gprs/3G connection
u use wifi 4 long time so i recomend using nodata cab 2 keep it disconnected
hello erezyad,
Where can i find this "no data cab"?
Let me just confirm, so your ipaq also stops charging?
Others please comment so we can be sure.
BTW there are lots of freeware internet radios you can install on you ppc to entertain you like Mundu Radio, Pocket Scrobbler, lastfm Pocketpc Player, just to name a few.
google 4 "modaco nodata.cab "
cannt upload [due 2 the dev ...]
if u will not find it i will post the link
good luck
I have looked into the file you mentioned "modaco nodata.cab". I don't think you understand my problem.
The problem is my pocket pc ceases to charge itself using the charger when i'm intentionally connect to WIFI longer than 30 minutes using high bitrate connection. Why high bit rate? Because it generates lots of heat. I would like to know whether others are experiencing the same problem
Thx

tnx
now u know what nodata is good 4
(it will not let gprs contact whan u use WIFI)
enjoy
Please this is urgent,
after reverting the settings back i.e. re enabling modaco's NoData and phone Network setting to Automatic, I cannot connect to gprs/3g connection anymore. It gave an error message something like "No DNS server is specfied".
Why is this?
if u have issus with your data connection u can always go
start/settings/connection/hp ipaq data connect and refrsh your settings
i can only say that i have worked with nodata 4 long time on lots of devces with no issuse
Yes I had done that already...
Ok no problem so it must be something else.
BTW Pockettoolman ( http://pockettoolman.blogspot.com/ ) can also enable/disable data plus many more functions but this ability is relatively hidden within the app.
... but never mind thank you
