i have noticed that Atom & Atom Exec Wifi is strongerthan Atom Life. Life wifi is toooooooo weak. any solution?
Have you changed any of the wifi settings already? The default it low!
I found I had big problems with wifi unless the settings were perfect. It'd either work perfectly at work and at home or it'd be useless!

no changes.. can tell wich one from settings. i,ve changed lot. but same..
Although this is an Atom Life thread, I wanted to ask about the Atom Exec. When I use WiFi on it, I notice the unit gets VERY hot as if it were charging. Of course the battery drains like crazy.
Is this normal? It feels like if I leave WiFi on too long the thing'll melt.

Hello again fellow XDA'ers lol, anyways ive got a rather intriguing issue with my atom life.. Basically it will detect any WiFi network in range but whenever i try and connect it will never actually finish and im not sure where exactly i should start.
So far, I've searched for countless hours via google and xda-dev as well with next to no luck..
I'm now running PDAVIET ROM 6.1 (Core 20273) by TranMinhMan and my router is a DL-604T Gen II. with the latest firmware.
and you're sure that the encryption and password are set correctly
and the network dont use mac filtering?
I've had this problem on my Artemis.
I had to set the WiFi "Power Mode" to "Best Performance" even though I was only 6 feet from the router!
Worth a try - it just might work for you as well.

i've noticed that its like locked on power mode, how exactly did you change it because i tried using WeFi and the slider to toggle between power and performance are locked!! ;
And also, all my settings for encryption are right, I've even tried using it without any form of encryption and it still doesnt finish connecting =(
Problem Resolved.
1. It disconnects automatically too frequently
2. I have a secure network and I have to enter the 100 digit (seems like) password everytime
3. Sometimes wont' connect at all.
The signal strength is 100% too.
Anybody else have this issue???
Is there a program that can monitor and connect automatically (remembering password) to help me???
Many thanks.
Mine is OK. Only have to enter the password once for the first time. Mine only disconnect when I turn the WiFi off via Communication Manager.
Im with craven.... My WiFi works perfectly.
My WiFi works flawlessly.
There is SPB Wireless for monitoring only.It does not help you reconnect. Good program.
Did you try to adjust the slider on WiFi settings towards Best Performance instead of Best Battery (it's on Power Mode in WiFi settings, from Communications Manager) ?
Maybe you have installed some crappy sofware that takes over your wireless settings(it happend to me when i installed some software- i don't remember it's name right now).
nope mine's ok. doesn't turn unless you specify. Reception is not bad either.
no problem with my xperia...
No problem with Linksys WRT54GL at all. Maybe you should check your router's settings.
Only twice had I needed to re-enter my WPA passkey, but otherwise it's great. Able to enjoy the web whilst in bed and a lot faster than my old P990.
It happened to me twice.
Though no problem lately.
As a little trick, you can use a text file (or whatever code protection software) to store the key and do a copy/paste if you don't want to type the code all over again.
I had this problem at first... I didnt know why it would keep disconnecting...then i figured it out..the wifi disconnects when the phone is in standby. Schaps advanced configuration tool fixed it quick and now im enjoying it very much =)
many people have success upgrading the firmware of their routers to fix
such issues
wifi working grt in my x1
once i entered wep key
now its working grt
You shouldn't use WEP, you can crack WEP under a minute now and even if you use a while "mac" list it's not safe enough since you got the MAC addresses just listening the packets.
my x1 works perfect on wifi. not loosing connection, set up the wlan key at the first time and it was saved forever. have tried it on 5 wlans and everywhere without problems... is think wifi and the gps are the only things that are sophisticated 100% on the x1 ^^

It is good only if you have a usb connection or 110/220V nearby as always on wifi drains the battery in a half day
BTW: the wifi reconnect after suspend is really fast here, almost every time 1-2 sec.
mine is just fine, my home wifi uses a 11 digit password, just had to put in once and never again, doesn't disconnect randomly, only when disable the wifi obviously.
you should check with your warranty, see if they can do something about it, cause your case isn't normal.
have you all changed it to best performance in the settings?
im sitting right next to my router...and it loses connection now? this is quite annoying. i put the slider in the middle.. i sometimes leave wifi on when im asleep at home. so i like to keep it in the middle? whats the deal?
haha...about the Xperia wifi problem, just off your bluetooth b4 u try to use the wifi.
i think xperia is sharing wifi and bluetooth in the same device support.
i been test many time....when open bluetooth the wifi is weak and keep disconnect..
if this problem can't slove it then i think u better send to service center to fix it.
I actually found a problem in the Wifi/Wireless configuration.
I have 2 WPA protected routers with long keys/passwords. I found that if I enter the keys for both, the X1 would only remember ONE of them. I tried this by trying to save the password on either one of the WPA routers, and would only remember the FIRST one entered. So if you entered a 2nd one, it would always forget it, and you would need to manually re-enter the password again. Sure, it would connect, but then after it disconnects or you leave the area, then re-enter the area, it already forgot the password again.
i dont have bluetooth on and this is getting pretty annoying..
are you guys all using best performance?
My Jade use to get a reasonable WiFi signal at home, even outside at the garage. Inside would always give 54Mbps. However yesterday we got WiFi at work and my Jade struggled to get a signal in the next room. Checked my WiFi at home and now its struggling to get a signal in the next room there also, even near to the router it won't get a full signal or 54Mbps.
Other WiFi device are getting full signals at both home and work.
I have not changed any settings or installed anything in the time between knowing I can get a good signal and now.
Any ideas?
It sounds like a hardware-defect.
Try softreset and try activate wi-fi again. See if it works ok. If not it could be hardware defect (the wi-fi chip maybe)

One additional idea: See under "Start/Settings/Connections/WLAN/EnergyMode" (translated from German, perhaps similar) and adjust the energy-mode to performance-optimized.
First thing I tried was a soft reset, didn't make a difference. Performance is selected over power saving.

Any difference, if you change it to "performance"?
I currently have a BlackBerry Bold 9000 - come the start of February I will finally get my hands on an HD2...
I don't really use the wireless on my BlackBerry - so my question is this:
Does the HD2 select a Wifi connection over the 3G when I am in a place where I can use either? Does it know to stop using 3G when I am in connection distance to something like my home network?
This is probably a stupid question - I rarely ever surf using my BB since it just does not lend itself to this very well.
Thanks in advance for the feedback.

If I've got my HD2 paired up with a wifi network and have the wifi turned on it will automatically choose this connection before anything else including 3G. However, I'm not sure about public wifi hotspots as I've not tried it.
That is what I was hoping was the answer - I suspect that should I connect to a public wifi spot that it would than take precedence over the 3G connection - this is a bit new to me. I will have a fairly good data bundle when I upgrade but it is nice to know.
Thanks
Scott
You will generally find that the action of turning the WiFi on, then entering the public hotspot connection credentials will then make the WiFi the default transport.
If you have already previously paired and entered the credentials, then you should only need to turn WiFi on for it to be used.
Remember that WiFi goes off when the device goes into standby to save battery drain, but will come on again after a few seconds when the device is turned on again.

Unless you want it to stay on when the phone goes into standby, for when you're downloading something large, for example. Then you can use something like WifiNoStandby (see my sig)

My WiFi stays on even though the phone suspends; has done so out of the box since I got it. Has anyone figured out why some HTC HD2 does and some don't?

It's actually a registry value that determines whether to keep the wifi on when the phone enters standby. If yours was like that out of the box then it had been set by someone else previously. This isn't default behaviour for any of the stock ROMs.

My HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms\HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended is set to 0 and WiFi still stays on when phone is suspended.
Sounds like a fault with your phone then. What if you wanted it to do the default behaviour and turn off wifi when in standby? You can't.

Good point. I wouldn't.
Now, has anyone figured out why some HTC HD2's act like this, and some don't? I'd like to know in case this awesome functionality goes away one day when I install some intrusive application.
Hi,
on my x10 with 2.1 nordic I have strange problem with wifi.
When i turn it on it find and connect to my wifi network but after a while (when i'm not using the phone) it just brake the connection and cant connect again until i do it manually.
Any ideas? Its really annoying me that my phone is using 3G instead of wifi after some timeout.
Mine does this as well. When I have WiFi enabled it doesn't use it unless I disable it and re-enable it.
Same here
Also it does another strange thing.
When I have connected to my Home Wifi and entered my password everything is fine. When I turn my WIFI off and back on. The saved connection to my home network is shown + again my home network without the PW. Very strange.
I am on the global generic 2.1.
I got round this by setting the wifi sleep policy to "never".. uses a bit more juice but I'm still getting a full day out of it.
Play a little bit with battery saver app. It will help

I don't like them.. I've tried a few but they all caused other problems, and never really saved me much juice either.
