RSSHub/Newsbreak "storage" bug. - Touch CDMA General

I've been using RSSHub 2.1.1.1077 for a few days now after re-flashing to a new ROM. It's worked flawlessly until last night (After I did my backups, so the bug comes with it).
Every time I try to add a new RSS feed, or update my current ones I get an error stating: "Error - Not enough storage is available to complete this operation."
Now I have well over 75MB of Storage available and 66MB of program available. I'm also using an 8GB card with 3 gigs free, so there are absolutely ZERO storage issues with this phone.
So where does this bug come from, and how do I repair it? I can tell you that RSShub works fine before I do my system restore, so it's either in a program I've installed, somewhere in the registry (I've disabled XT9 by changing the IME file it calls) or is this just really horrid programming?
(Alternatively if I cannot repair this, can someone recommend an alternate PPC RSS utility that I can use to download podcasts? That's the primary reason I use RSShub/Newsbreak)

Is your backup from a 6.1 rom?
And did you flash to a 6.5 rom?

Big Hack help required

I did the Big Hack successfully and gained 27 mb of space on my O2 mini (I was a happy man). Prior to this, at the time of Big Hack I stored a copy of my original rom and my extended rom.
Subsequently, in about 2 weeks time I accidentally deleted some key files while using SK Tools. Due to this the ‘close button’ at the top corner was not visible even after soft reset. The “running programs” application was also missing. Because of this I did a hard reset.
When I tried to load programs into the new storage gained, I found that the storage area is full (total storage memory 26.72 MB, free 0.00 MB. No programs are being written on to this area. I did another hard reset. Still no luck. My active sync is working fine with contacts, calendar etc. getting synced very fine. Only, I cannot install programs to my new big storage area as it shows the full area as full.
Total Main Memory is - 57.41
Storage Program
Allocated 24.39 MB Allocated 33.02 MB
In use 2.08 MB In use 10.63 MB
Free 22.31MB Free 22.39 MB
Please help me. What should I do ? Do I need to visit the Service Centre in Mumbai and ask them to restore my device back to the level at which I purchased it ? Do I flash the BIG ROM once again ? Do I flash the saved, original RoM. Somehow, when I try to flash in boot loader, the screen only shows “Serial 1.0”, but it is not prompting me to Press power to flash.
sorry, im not to good wid my magician, how do i do a big hack, and what does it do?
Galahad: I would suggest re-flashing with your bigstorage'd ROM. That should re-partition everything hopefully back to bigstorage status. If that doesn't work, reflash with a normal rom, and then start from scratch.
Mark - I presume by "Big Hack" Galahad means the BigStorage hack, and not just playing with his dangly bits. Have a look on the wiki and various threads. Olt's guide here is a good one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37914&highlight=bigstorage
and this is my preferred technique:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/vie...t=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=bigrom
What this does is:
by default the Magician is set up to have a "storage" area for user use of about 7mb, and an "extended" area that we can really use, containing a bunch of operator stuff that you might or might not need.
The hack turns the extended area into storage, so you get 27mb, to do with as you please. It's well worth doing if you use a wifi card for example, but if you have a large sd card anyway, and never remove it, you're not losing much.
V
Vijay thanks for your reply and notes. I have visited your links and taken hard copies for Note reference.
I did a romupdate and thru that I tricked my device to prompt me to flash my SD Card with the saved Big Rom. Once everything was done I got my 27mb space. I notes that it already had 5 mb written. I ignored that and went on to reinstall all my programs to this area.
One more help that I need [don'nt know if I should start a new thread] is how to get to install the application "O2 connect". I installed individual cab files from the saved EXT ROM. After installing 4 to 5 O2 connect cab files whenever I click on O2 connect I still get the message "O2 connect can only run on O2 devices"
The links that you gave me "how do I search for these links"? I do not get the search results for what I want to search in the search dialog box.
Galahad: it's not a piece of software I've ever used, but you have to remember to search for the cracked version. Have you tried the ftp? It's likely to be on there. However, many people seem to suggest it's not very good... I reserve judgement!
Remember to formulate your searches with correct boolean terms etc, it does work if you know what you're looking for and are very careful...
V
These are the files i used to get the o2 connect to work.
Thanks buddies for the replies and the tips.
Nash: I read your post. Did you mean to put a link for me to look up the files that you talked about ? Cause I don't see any files. Maybe I am missing something :?
Buddy these are CAB files in a RaR zipped
Tried using the individual cab files in the RAR file. Installed the same. It did not help me one bit. Got the same error "O2 connect is meant to work with O2 devices only"
I guess if I need the latest ROM I will pickup the same from the XDA forum.

Automating Program Installs

Hey all,
I have a question.
I have been playing with my 8125 a lot lately and am constantly resetting my device. What I want to know is I have one main machine that I do all my application installs via active sync that way when I hard reset my device I just have to go to add remove programs in active sync and re-check all the programs I want to put back on my phone.
Here is what I want.
I don’t want to have to tell the phone where to install the applications (I want it to default to storage card without any prompts.) and.. I don’t want any confirmation prompts ie: security unsigned, approve this application to be installed, this application was installed properly… etc.. I want to streamline the process so I can just tick the check boxes for my apps, let them download and that’s it. Currently after refreshing I have to spend quite a bit of time clicking “ok” … storage card…. Ok… storage card… ok… I think you get it.
Thanks much!
I've seen a lot of different reg keys out there that may accomplis this. Is there a way to disable the notifications and pre-set the install path peramaters?

You can do this with WinCE Cab manager
If you really reset your device that often why don't you use SPB BACKUP? A reinstallation of all your apps wouldn't be necessary - just load your backup and you're ready to go!
Ya I did think of that but here is my issue.
the reason I am constantly hard reseting is because I am changing and playing with roms pretty much on a daily basis. I've been cooking my own roms trying to come up with what works best for me and what is closest to RTM. Thus why I am always re-installing apps.
So if I use SPB backup (which I have) it saves system settings and such right? So if I am switching roms all the time will it break my device?
Thanks guys! I'm new to the forum here I just got my first PPC phone a couple weeks ago but I've been an avid windows mobile (smartphone) user for years and have worked on WM platforms as beta tester.
Gotta love this stuff!!!

Yes you are exactly right, and so many people seem to miss this... Spb Backup, Sprite Backup, etc are full backups that backup and restore the registry and all. If you restore this from one rom to a different rom you are likely to break something (may not be obvious at first, but you have a very good chance of things being broken inside the registry that you will trip up on at some point).
So yeah, the only way around this (without building your own extended rom and such) is to create a folder (or set of folders) on your SD card with all the cabs, files, and settings that you need for when your flash a new rom. Then run through that to set things up. You can also use ActiveSync to reinstall apps (just check them all and it will put them all back on) but you have to remember which ones (if any) require a reset of your device as that can cause probs with the others that are installing (if all done together).
Yep,
but at least you can import contacts, email and pim data that way quite easy!
Since you continiously flash your device: there will be no other solution but reinstalling your applications again and again. You might want to look around for a CAB extractor and then create your own CABs with all the progs you would like to have in one large CAB ???
One such CAB Installer Creator is: WinCE CAB Manager
Take a closer look at MolskiBiz_DevPack and you will find a utility to extract CAB files. It will be a bit work to add all the registry values to the Installer you're going to create but finally you might save a lot of time since you only run 1 installation instead of xxx ...
This is good, I have been playing with wince cab and it is a solution.
Now I'm going to work on making my extended roms.. will this work? I did a full recover of my apps through active sync just an hour or two ago and it reported total size of all cabs as just over 112megs. That means I'd be flashing a MONSTER rom and would it even be possible?
2gig mini SD card.
thanks
I tried before to add some apps (cab installers) to a personalized extended rom but it never worked the way I wanted it to. You might have seen that you always have to give some inputs when ever you install programs, sometimes you get ask if you really want to install the app, sometimes you need to choose a location. So, if you add CAB installers UNCHANGED to the extended ROM it just won't install because during extended rom installation you have no way of providing that information.

not enough memory issue

just tried to play the avatar clip via msn uk and saw a new error. It told me i had insufficient memory. i think the error was from adobe flash player. i am using ie. is there a was to direct this to sd as i have a lot of space there?
Did you try resetting your mobile after install? After install it crashed on me, I reset my mobile and it worked fine.
I did not install anything. I simply tried to run the trailer.
I got this error too and I have seen videos with the IE in the HD2 running embeded flash on sites. I will either get the error or no flash at all. What gives?!
UPDATE: It does show the flash some times. Weird.
I have the same issue in general. i want to open my calendar and it says no memory available go to task manager and exit programs. when i go to task manager all programs are already exited.... but it still gives me the message. when i restart it works but the same happens again after a while.... will that be the case all the time :S :S
(btw i just bought the phone 1 day ago so any tips would be helpful)
Thankss

you should install cleanram as it helps free some ram...also get cleartemp as it'll show you what's eating your space up like googlemap and youtube caches so you can delete them easily...and finally don't forget to soft reset
one more very important thing which saves a LOT of space if you're on stock rom or your cooked rom doesnt have it(highly unlikely) is moving the album cache...read the thread here and look out for 4tune's cab
you should also read tboy200's thread and look at tips 65 and 67
Cleanram and cleantemp aren't going to solve that problem.
Leo has from 448 to 576MB of total ram, it's unlikely a human being would run enough programs to actually drain that all.
The problem lies in the virtual memory architecture: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/windows/VirtualMemory.aspx?msg=3360923, and alas it's nothing that can be solved, just somehow reduced byt for example flashing a custom rom that loads less libraries in VM at boot, for example, leaving more free VM.
clear the opera cash and it is done
ephestione has it right. in my experience, an out of memory error on the HD2 does NOT mean that there's not enough memory, it's just an architecture limitation that gives application errors.
Insufficient space error in Play Store
Hi all, infact this problem is not related to this thread (in my opinion) but since i am a newbie and can't post to the related post, i choose to write down my problem here where i can find a solution..maybe..
Right now i am using Dorimanx's [24 MAY] Dorimanx-ROM-HIGH-END 3.1.9 N277 ODEX NO-HOME-REFRESH+ ZRAM+ SKIN+ TWEAKS+ CRON Rom. I dont know if CRON or any other script is working smoothly, actually i dont know how to test them but, the real problem for me is totally apart from that.
I fixed the audio issue by flashing Magldr_kernel_iamgpc_294, -the flashable version of libaudio_v5-drizztje- i guess, after that i am facing with apps update issues, the apps that i am trying to update is giving "insufficient space" errors. I tried to uninstall and re-install alternatives but i cant even re-install the app that i uninstalled!!!
Solution?

Not Enough Memory

i've been having loads of issues since upgrading to the new stock ROM (3.14.405.2), everytime i try to open skyfire or send an MMS it gives and error saying 'not eneough memory, free up some memory and try again' i keep checking the task manager and there aren't any other apps working. the photo tab on manila hangs almost all the time as well. have tried removing CHT 2.0 but that didn't help at all...infact without CHT it dosent even seem like the same phone it.
i did a full restore using spb...not sure if that had anything to do with it.
clean up and move cache folders as described in tips and tricks thread

Yes, the restore is the problem. After a ROM upgrade you can only bring your documents, contacts and calender - if you try to bring the old system files & registry as well you will have only trouble. Hard reset and start from scratch.

Thanks. I think it's not a good idea for me to upgrade to stock rom now. I am using sprite backup on 1.48.xxxx wwe rom and I am quite happy with that rom with htc updates installed manually on the device.
May be you have already tried that but if you would use sprite backup then there is an option of merge level 1 in restore options of sprite backup which will try to restore your backup to a new rom from an old rom backup (as in your case). I don't know that such option exist in spb backup as I don't use that program.
If you haven't tried it yet you may do so and I am not the promoter of sprite backup as some ppl. may take me wrong. It was just my 2 cent advice.
Thanks again.

[Q] Cannot run any .exe file

i tried installing android but it didnt work the haret file wouldnt open and kept getting error message (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11352461#post11352461)
So i tried to flash my rom following this tut
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505377
but i was unable to run SPL v 1.56.OliNex, it kept saying error 240 device not responding
so i put the manual touch hd .exe onto my phone
but i get the same error message as when i run haret
the file 'name of .exe program' cannot be opened. either it is not trusted..if the problem persists try reinstalling or restoring the file..
what do i do?
......... any 1?
excatly like the error message says, there can be 2 possible reasons, why it wouldn't open:
1. it is not trusted
2. a component is missing
1. if it is not trusted, try hd tweak and set it to ignore certifications warnings
2. the "component" that is usually missing is .net framework 3.5. many apps come not fully loaded with their own code but are based on certain runtimes, which makes them compatible with more windows mobile versions and keep them clean, but to have those shared libraries and make the phone "understand" this program, you need to install the .net framework.

edit
i tried to install hd tweak but when i opened the .cab file on phone i got past 'the program is from an unknown publisher..do you want to continue' i pressed yes but then i get the message 'installation of HD Tweak was unsuccessful'
too bad, i already suspected something like this to happen. to disable certification you'd have to install an uncertified program, vicious circle. what rom are you running? many roms don't have the certificate issue, because by default this is disabled by the rom chefs. another thing that you could try might be the autoinstall feature:
in my rom (cloudy 0.7) there is an autoinstall feature. it consists of a startmenu link AutoInstall, which then disables certain policies (including certification) to install all cabs in the AutoInstall folder on the sd card, kinda like an EXTROM known from older devices. most roms have a user customization (UC) feature built in, please post your rom chef and version or refer to the thread you got the rom from to check for this feature. i hope you already have ms myphone installed or you are able to run pimbackup on your device, because you might have a hardreset coming in your near future, and you should make sure to have backups of all your personal data and only that. using sprite backup, spb backup or resco backup is not recommended, that will not only restore your data, but also the problem, you are having right now.
in case you are running a shipped rom, which would explain, why that annoying certification is there in the first place, chances are slim, that UC will work for you, and if you also don't have ms myphone or are unable to run pimbackup, you should at least try and sync your data with exchange or outlook (however, this will not backup your call logs or sms)
i am still wondering what might have caused your troubles in the first place. did you install android as a cab? if it was the new froyo x build, which comes as portable os, it should be completely wiped, when you delete the folders from the sd card, in case of the earlier cab version, you might want to try uninstalling it. in case you made the error to install it to the internal storage, the hard reset is inevitable.

i think this is what caused the problem, any idea how to solve?
as mentioned before, your device is pretty screwed up and you best option is to try and backup your personal information and then perform a hard reset and format your sd card (which might have troubles due to the android incident)

Ive reformated mem card, ive backed up my documents with activesync. Yes im a noob how do u hard reset ?
switch off the device completely (not just sleep). then while pressing both the volume keys, switch it back on. you should see a white screen with blue font giving you instructions on how to reset the device to factory defaults.
