Does anyone know of any emulators or ports that are compatible with WVGA resolutions AND the QWERTY keyboard (since there is no d-pad on the TP2).
I have so far tried:
Heretic
Sort of runs, but does not support landscape and does not support the QWERTY keys.
PocketSNES
I tried the VGA compatible recompiled version here http://n0p.tonych.info/?PocketSNES.
It 'runs' and I could load a ROM but it does not support running the game in landscape mode, it also does not support mapping the 'qwerty' keys, it would however map the volume and front buttons, which is not very useful. It did work using the on-screen controls, but this is obviously not practical or preferred when we have a full QWERTY keyboard available.
Given the QWERTY keyboard and nice high-res screen, it would be great to get some of these running (even though they most probably wont support VGA resolutions). The games I've tried so far are 'so close' to working, looks like they just need a few tweaks to get it running.
the best results i get with "PocketSNES 1.53 (build 25-10-2007)" + "WVGAfix3" u can play in landscape mode but the problem is the qwerty/z keyboard it would be great if we could get it with full qwerty/z...

hie guys what is the best keyboard based on your experience between resco keyboard and spb keyboard on the touch HD thanks
I tried the resco - it's got issues [as mentioned on the thread/wiki regarding what does and doesn't work on the HD]
Resco - the carriage return triggers annoyingly often unless you're absolutely 100% accurate....which really defeats the philosophy of much of the program IMO
Not tried the SPB on the HD - but seem to recall that the wiki states that doesn't work as well - dont quote me on that though - check it out
spb keyboard
I recommend you guys give a try to the new spb keyboard version 4.0..It is brilliant!

its good but then the other features like auto correct, word suggestion and auto correct only work in landscape mode and i use opera mini more than opera mobile and because opera mini will not rotate to landscape mode i therefore cannot use auto correct which i very much like as i chat and type a lot using opera mini.
Iv tried all those keyboards and now im using the latest version of touchpal and in my opinion that is the best iv used. check this video out from youtube to see how it works
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=xfMrJ7Cci_A
I found Resco to be buggy. For no reason, the key preview popup stops whe you press a key. Also I hate not having a Control key. (Some of the downloaded skins look awful on the HD, fonts bunch up in one corner etc)
Spb is ok but I wish to god they would give us auto correct and word suggestion in portrait mode. Also I simply cannot get skins to work. If I download and install any skin, it does not become available in the options. Has anyone else had this trouble? any fix ???
TouchPal is buggy on my HD, some times it stops responding. I found that going into Remote Desktop to configure a client triggers this (but it happens elsewhere also)
So, they all have issues, they all have bloddy annoying issues. Is it to do with HD compabability or are they all badly coded and thought out ?
Please someone write a decent keyboard......

why is it that most of these demo videos on youtube are without sound ???
I'll add my recomendation for touchpal. I've tried all of them but touchpal is better than spb, resco and pocketcm.
The only thing that i find negative about touchpal is that it doesn't spread out in landscape, stays in the center. Looks a bit odd.
Here is a comparison between the different virtual keyboards.
http://www.trustedreviews.com/mobile-devices/review/2008/08/31/Touch-keyboards-for-Windows-Mobile/p1
I've just installed TouchPal but how do you activate the keyboard?
It's still stuck on the default HTC KB. I can't find no app icon for TouchPal or any sign of it in input setting etc.
Many thanks
I suggest you guys try this keyboard
Well to start with you are presented with graphics options, and I have to say the default skin is very pleasing to the eye.
This keyboard offers 5 (five) !!! different keyboard layouts, all in one single, very little memory consuming application.
Having 5 layouts it's very easy to find your perfect choice.
But there's more, you actually have tons of powerful options like T9 (with language customized dictionaries, including the ability to add your new words), or the drag-and-drop over the keys to move them as you like (yes, you can actually move the keys arround with a simple drag).
Another powerful thing I like is that you can change the keyboard's height, you can make it full screen, or to any size you like, the keyboard will just get to the size you indicate.
Honestly, there are so many features, that you can't miss this! It's much much better then resco or spb's keyboard, it simply surpasses them with strong features.
There is a trial version (the pro version) here , and a freeware version too. There are several videos there too that are very helpful for discovering the features.
non-htc keyboard issue
One thing I have noticed is that non-htc keyboards (including transcriber) do not generate address lists when writing in the email or sms address bar. I have not tried Tesco but spb and resco have this limitation. Has anyone found a way to overcome this problem?

Does TouchPal bring up phone numbers when typing in sms addressee?
I truly admire people who are able to use TouchPal efficiently, but I'm not one of them. I tried it as my only input method for about a month, making an effort to investigate all the tips and tricks and shortcuts. In the end I found it to be clumsy and over-engineered. I downloaded a trial of SPB 4 and within 2 hours had paid the $15 for the full version. It is easy to use in portrait or landscape and has a CTRL key on the default keyboard. It just behaves the way I expect a keyboard to work and doesn't expect me to learn anything about it in order to get the most out of it.
Danish layout
If I purchase a keyboard for my future HD, will it then automatically have a danish layout with the danish letters such as "å,æ, and ø"?
Hope someone knows the answer
Thanks in advance
EDIT:
Btw, sorry for off-topic..
True about Resco keyboard buggyness.
Spb keyboard 4.0 runs much smoother.
Very nice feature by switching full screen to mid screen.
Ned to try it in Opera Mobile.
Do you rely need all those layouts?
What about auto correct and stuff in other languages?
PS.: If you come across spb keyboard 4.0 k e y msg me!
I'd be happy with my Spb full-screen keyboard if the damn thing would just stay as the default after a soft reset! If anyone knows this, please feel free to chime in.
EDIT: Yes, I already tried SIPchange, and having a prog crash after every soft reset is not cool either.

I searched for this as well; SKTools does the trick. It can't trick the system to use SPB Keyboard as default, but it changes the SIP to whatever you like, in background, after every reset (you need to specify a long enough delay so that the TF3D can load before that - I set mine to 40 seconds and it works as it should). Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Rok
in my opinion, Touchpal is the best among all the keyboards I have tried. For those trying to set default keyboard and fail, try using SIPChange and set the time to 30 seconds. Mine works without problem with Touchpal. Hope it helps.
Anyone had any luck with emulation for the TP2? I knew this thing didn't have a D-Pad so... portrait mode is out of question. Now landscape should work but doesn't... at least in full screen(1/6 of the screen to be exact!). The only ones that worked somewhat were Morph Gear (shows 1/6 of the full screen in landscape mode) and Pocket Nester (only portrait works but doesn't rotate when opening keyboard (YES, I tried pocket nester plus also and checked landscape with no avail). I have to admit something... I've been away from WM for a year now and have grow fond of Android. The app store is nice and everything is compatible. WM MAIN PROBLEM is most dev. have left for Apple/Android/Palm...(jk! about Palm, lol) and/or haven't updated their programs in 2 years. Plus, having 8 different common screen size resolutions doesn't help much either. Emulation (albeit, sounds silly) is (or should be) big part of my pda's functionality. The screen isn't as responsive as I had hoped for a smartphone without a d-pad/trackball either. Android/iphone's touch screen is super responsive and I figured WM would be better is they had added the newer capacitive type of touchscreen. I'm really thinking of returning this phone. For $300, it should have been a lot better. I bet developers will come back when WM6.5 comes around with the marketplace and all. But who knows... Before you all start flaming, please remember I've been here for several years and am just a little frustrated after hours of trying to figure out what works and what doesn't with my old programs. Also, if anyone finds a solution for better emulators, PLEASE feel free to post something. I will do the same as soon as I regain my composer and get some sleep. I really hate to completely abandon WM and would like to find a solution. The TP2 really has a lot of good points but I'm sure most know what they are and what are some of it's shortcoming (which are aggravating me right now). It is pretty new and will sure to have a lot more folks working behind this sub-forum section soon enough. It is a pretty damn cool phone... just pissing me off right now. Please make a comment or suggestion below.
Good night!
I believe Morph Gear WILL work out as a good all-around emulator. As resting my mind somewhat, I realized there is an option to stretch rom image to full screen in the individual emulator console settings (example: SNES console). Combined with the k for Raphael app., landscape mode WILL work. And about the touch screen and D-pad, more force on the touch screen DOES help for better responsiveness for use without the stylus. The D-pad is somewhat made up for with the zoom bar (which sometimes zooms or scrolls (depends on what app you're using). Since I have answered my own questions (without any help from you all! ), let this be a lesson to all newbies... even old folks (members, I should say) make mistakes. I think I'll keep the TP2 (major dilemma avoided) but WM should take a lesson from apple/android and get capacitive screens!
I guess we'll have to wait on WM7 for that though
I had the same problem with Pocket Nester. I actually had to revise my comment. This is basically a bump.
I have the (telus) TP2 and have got morph gear working if you have a ctrl key there is and easier way but to get it working on my phone i downloaded KforTouchPro and morphgear start KforTP and hit switch to M$ IME then minimize then slide out my keyboard and open morphgear (i have found sliding after causes plroblems) and then im free to play (however another issue if i touch the landscape Right side of the screen if gets all screwed up but if i touch the landscape Left side of the screen it goes full screen.
If you really wanna go portrait this MIGHT work http://www.slipperybrick.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/bt_gamepad.jpg

I got pocket nester plus to work along with k for raphael. The up down left right arrows are backwards so it'll take a second to figure it out.
On my Wing, Pocket nester would work in landscape mode when I turned GAPI off in the graphics settings. haven't tried on the TP2 yet. The lack of a dpad is a game killer.

yeah, it takes some getting used to, for sure... I had PLENTY of practice with my good old HTC Dream (which has a trackball) but actually once you get used to the arrows and keys on the landscape physical keyboard, your gameplay improves. Mainly, becasue there is more room for your fingers. I used to use my HTC Wizard with the D-pad and it was great but some games were hard to play with the dpad and two hardware softkeys. BOY, that was a great phone! It had so many keys to map for portrait mode (5 plus the dpad! Another small flaw with the TP2. only volume keys and a back button are mappable. I'm sure we'll get the speaker/mute button working on the back soon enough. well, a bad strom is here and I am afraid for my pc's life... so I must go! lol... I hope my surge protector works well. **** it, I'm pulling the plug...
I use Morph Gear for my emulation. Although it slower then other programs it's still playable. I can use the keyboard for playing and can stretch the screen so It looks pretty good especially with the image smoothing on.
One thing I do recommend is FPSeCE this is a playstation emulator. You can search around google for version 9.6 it works great in landscape. The framerate is a bit slow on some games but most are playable. FFVII puts out around 30-40 frames for me with sound off and keyboard works great. Just make sure you have the GFX set to GAPI, Landscape right, and that you start the program with the keyboard open. If you do that you won't need the WVGA fix to use it.
I'm really curious if it might be possible to use a bluetooth controller... I would totally rock a BT modded SNES with my TP2... ::dreams::

The days of the dpad are over unfortunately. Android ( G1-Magic) devs are now making touchscreen virtual dpads that work great for their emulators.
Hopefully we will see those soon here. They have some really nice emulators already.

Maybe for you, but not for me. I play games where pressing diagonal directions is important. That doesn't work out so well when using a keyboard. Smartgear doesn't emulate the sound correctly on my favorite game, Bases Loaded. It's still a pretty good emulator though.

Without a multi-touch screen, I think screen controls are a non-starter. Lack of tactile feedback is also a bummer.

If I can get this to work, I'll be in business!
After the Dream
After seeing the amazing emulators for the G1/Dream (especially the gba emu) I am somewhat disappointed that the winmo emulators that are out are really no where near as good as whats running on android. My theory is that android has proper support for the graphics chip on board and this is just one more reason I think android running on a TP2 would open up so much potential for the TP2's hardware. But hey if someone could get an emulator running at full speed at the 800x480 resolution that would rock. I would even take 640x480 with black borders if it had good frame rates. Imagine running the tv-out and having your own console emulator. I really hope that the marketplace will open up doors for more support for these kinds of things like it did for android. My G1 has been out for a year next month and boy has it come a long way. Winmo has had a huge headstart which I think will help jumpstart the market.
Does anyone have a good working GBA emulator that has on screen buttons, d-pad and A,B? I had a really nice one that worked well with my Raphael but I can't seem to find it anywere.
Thanks,
Gotwake424
why on screen if you have a slide out keyboard
Ok, well id rather play it in portrait then in landscape, but at this point im just trying to get a working one, that would be nice
Morphgear works fine for some roms (it's not free though).
From a certain size of the rom it runs out of memory on my tp2. It seems to be a bug with the program, not you tp2 actually running out of memory.
Alternatively, there are several freeware emulators, not hard to find at all. But I haven't tried any of those.
Hi, i have a HTC Shift x9500 with a liberated snapvue (original danish ROM)
I was wondering if there is a way to install and run a single game in full-screen? (like Palm-heroes or Age of Empires)
I know they need to start in portrait mode, and i have tried to set the display in portrait mode with "kaisoft screen rotator", but when i start a game, its just white screen..
Is there any way, to make it work - the best would be if i DONT need to flash a new ROM (because some bad experiences)

No one, have a solution?
Video drivers are not complet. They lack a lot of routines to make games work. Even when they work, they are slow and input doesn't work properly.
Game that work: resco defender
Thats not good news
Well.. Snapvue is smart - but could be better
Hello,
I'd like to use software virtual keyboard in portrait mode, maybe pressing a combination or whatever... Any ideas?
I read http://www.droidforums.net/forum/mo...-way-force-screen-keyboard-portrait-mode.html

In my case pocketcloud remote desktop does not get numbers to the remote session.
Plus one hand is easier while driving
Any hints?

Smart Keyboard got me one step closer to what jojomi is trying to do, thanks Rafeee2.
Smart Keyboard is the first aftermarket keyboard that has worked for me at all on my Droid Pro.
It will display just fine in landscape mode after editing some of the advanced settings.
However, I still can't get it to come up in portrait mode which would be nice...
Yes, I know it has a portrait physical keyboard but, depending on the situation you are in, it would be nice to have the option of an on screen keyboard as well.
rdp 2x client w/ sw keyboard and Free Working Keyboard
Hello and thanks for your replies.
I tried smart keyboard but it does not work portrait mode.. how did you do the test? Enable it as default and it does not show up like the multitouch from motorola.
What are you trying to do PEZ Dispenser?
Anyway with RDP I found a midwise solution: 2x client has a great software keyboard, alas not what I wish to use on such a small screen while on rdp and others have only hw working
Cheers!
Just adding that the app from ericom and AnRdp work, both differently with rdp on droid pro. Disappointed by wyse pocketcloud pro I bought not working on this phone
Well it would be nice to type with one hand and that is a little difficult with the pro hardware keyboard.
Ultimately I would like to get swype working in protrait mode but I will settle for it just working in landscape mode.
Smart Keyboard is super useful for use in the terminal emulator and when using vnc.
Swype would be ideal for sms so it would be great to have that working as well.
I will investigate RDP and 2x Client's app.

I find the hardware keyboard to be great for one-handed typing. Swype might be a little faster for that, but I'd get frustrated with the small screen size and the increased errors it would bring about.
One would think there would be a relatively simple way to do this, but I guess Motorola figured that people who buy this phone are doing so for the hardware keyboard, so they left out any straightforward settings for it.
