Hey guys!
I've seen people complain about broken Wizard LCD/touchscreen around here but none of them said anything about partially functioning touchscreen. So here it goes:
A few days ago my phone stopped responding to taps. Just like that! I updated the phone with the latest ROM from HTC (official) and no change. Since then I've been lurking this forum trying to find something similar ...
I've flashed it with custom roms, now I'm trying the WM6 with the hope that maybe the touchscreen will respond to taps by itself, without me having to keep the left softkey pressed while tapping. I can't decide if this is a hardware or a software issue.
If anyone should have any idea about this, please advise. I'm not afraid to open it up or anything like that...
ps: waiting on a replacement touchscreen I ordered off of eBay. ($12)
Thanks a bunch,
kevin
Same Problem
My touchscreen has been acting up lately and today it just stopped working. Tried many things like you with no luck. However I followed your advice on pressing the left soft key and the touch screen started working.
Does anyone have any clues?
touch screen prob.
if your touch screen is not responding then you have to chang the touch screen if it responce some where in time then you open you device and just resolder the touch screen film connector (back side of screen)its just get drysoldered thats why these things happen like you press rite side of screen and it geting work again if relese its stop working................
you have to do only re sloder the connector of touchscreen
Different Problem
Like the post originator said, the screen does work, you just have to hold the left soft key down while tapping. Also did take it apart and didn't see any problems.
Mine just developed this issue, anyone have a fix? I've got a digitizer (Touch panel) on order from ebay as a 1st step. Anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks!
Ok this is odd, but I'm suddenly having the same issue. Touchscreen doesn't work unless I'm holding the left soft key as well... This has to be software right? Anyone have any ideas yet?
I dont have this problem.. but this is 'interesting' I'm wondering, if it is hardware or software problem. For hardware problem, you can try pressing on the area around the left softkey rather than the left softkey. For hardware, you can check to see if it is working after a hardreset?

This issue has to be related to corrupted software that was installed, I mean how can this many people have the same exact problem around the same time if it's hardware related. Compare notes: All those having this issue, submit the most recent software that was installed, and if everyone installed the same thing, then that's the culprit!

So i've been using my hermes since december i think but my scroll wheel has been acting wierd since day 1 and was wondering if anyone else experiences the same thing.
Basicly as i scroll down the page (or whatever i'm scrolling) jumps up.
It looks like for every 2 clicks down i get one click up... anyone else having this issue? should i send it in for warranty repair?
I get that randomly and I have seen it reported before. Not aware of anything possible to fix it though.
Mike
my scroll wheel has been playing up a month after i got it and now i don't even bother to use it since its useless and irritatingly so ie. you scroll down and the cursor goes up!
oh well, just ignore it till i upgrade to the next phone

yah i was thinking along the same lines... posted this cuz i was curious to how many are seeing this and if i should send it in for warranty repair...
mine works, but i feel the quality is poor.
I have to be EXTREAMLY carfull when i press the scrol wheel in that it doesn't scroll up or down as its being pressed in!
the quality when compared to a blackberry scroll is IMHO very very poor.
I have similar problem. I can scroll down without problems (and very exactyl), but scrolling upward need 2-3 times more finger action (and is not ecact too, sometimes jumps 1 line up or down).
First I thougt its hardw
re related (maybe dirt in the wheel) but after a hardreset its gone. But comes back after some software is installed.
Thats really bad, because the scroll wheel is the key for 1 hand usage!
Why HTC can not use Sonyericson (P900) type of wheel?
I have the same problem but it started after 5 months of my i-mate JasJam usage. I went to warranty claim center and they boot it up with clean installation. It seems work for some hours fine then again started to skip the lines of selection. Till now I am also searching for solution coz I can't go again and again to that place its far away man. I think it is neither hardware problem nor software problem. The thing is its flop and HTC has removed it from their new device HTC Touch.
This jog system came in Sony (not Sony Ericcson) mobile and it failed to take share in market even .000001 %. Now you will not find any device with this thing coz dust make it weak to sense and if I am not wrong just recall the 70's and 80's radio transisters
Decrease sensitivity?
Scroll wheel is perfect thing, but I experience same issues as mentioned above. I think that if possible to decrease it's sensitivity (maybe registry value or some more dirty software hack) will make it more precise and without counter movements (up instead of down or moving during push).
My opinion is that scroll wheel is order of magnitude better way of control than sliding with fingers over screen (iPhone is spreading this stupidity all over and designers are blindly copying that).
So, anyone that is capable of decreasing Hermes scroll wheel sensitivity?
My problem with the scroll wheel is that in a program or settings list, it scrolls up and down but jumps and doesn't go across first, then down.
First of all, sorry if this or a fix to this has already been posted.
The keys on of my hermes are dead-just the 6 and top 2 (msg & ie), the centre scrolling thing works. the outer keys;comm mgr, camera, jog dial etc. work.
i had this problem a few months ago and it worked itself out after a month or so i think. i've opened it up to but it looked fine.
it's a little annoying, especially the lack of the endcall button.
Anyone else have/had this problem?
thanks
merry christmas everyone
strange, its fixed itself
sorry i wasted this thread.
my advice to anyone to whom this happens: leave it be.!
ooh..dead again
It could be related to the white-screen issue. This issue is apparently caused by a weird connection to the d-pad itself (which also controls the mail/internet buttons at the top of the phone, as well as the send/end call keys). I'm currently in the process of trying to fix my phone. Anyway, for some more info, check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=321163&highlight=white+screen
If you start seeing a white screen soon, then you definitely know that this is it.
Ok, so I just bought a Hermes that was listed with "software problems". It seems to have a mind of its own. It scrolls on its own or clicks in and out of options when I try to run programs or settings. Anyways, I've downgraded and upgraded with no luck.
Then, I notice that some of the soft keys are stuck. For example, I can't press "down", "endcall" and the "left selection key". Is that whats causing the phone to act weird or is it a software problem? If it's hardware, I would I go about fixing it?
sounds like a damaged digitiser i would look for spare parts as it can be exchanged without changing the whole lcd
not sure who sell it and if they ship it to where you live
i would look at expansys or google
maybe here
http://www.pdasmart.com/8925phone.htm
I'm curious, if its not a hardware problem, what could the problem be?
i say i suspect hardware as many people in the trinity forum had issues just like it
parts of the screen being "pressured" at all times and that was hardware issues
Ok, so I made a video of the problems I was having. So maybe this can confirm or not that this is a hardware problem. I'm second guessing the hardware problem because the touch screen *seems* to be working fine. And the soft keys are not actually stuck, they just don't press as well as the others. I won't even touch the screen and just scroll with the dpad and I get the same problems. Anyways, I'm a noob to the Hermes so I may not know what I'm talking about . Here is the video clip:

Can somebody, anybody please take a look at my video and see if the problems are indeed hardware or something else?
I have read a lot about the capacitive buttons on N1 being a little faulty.... it responds only when clicked on the upper half of the button... Just wondering if some developer here already found a fix for that...
If not, then is this a hardware limitation or some software glitch?
I think it's a hardware limitation. Once you get used to it it's just fine, but I agree it bothers me sometimes to have to touch it twice.
Some ROMs keep adding and removing the capacitive fix.
I dont see a problem.
You have to accept that they are different buttons.
-> On the screen I tab softly..
-> The cap.buttons, I hold my finger... (never tab it)
When you forget this, you tab on them like on your screen icons and you got to tab more times and start worrying about them...
I believe the capacitive button bug was fixed with google official OTA update.
I clearly had it before (had to hit on the upper part of the buttons) and now it's gone since the update
You can fix it? Mine is still like before.

They work fine if you just aim a tad high on the button. You adjust quickly.
What about the "area expansion fix"??
I have just upgraded to 2.2.. It still has problems with only the top half of the soft buttons being sensitive. I have also noticed that unless I'm holding the phone or touching the metal casing the buttons don't really work at all. It seems like a hardware issue. Although I do have thick skin from playing the guitar and rockclimbing. So I'm probably not as capacitive as the avarage user. Just wondering if anyone else has the same problems or even a fix?
Yeah I have to hit the upper part of the button as well. I would be interested in finding a fix for this too....
I'm running the stock OTA 2.2.1 rom right now if that helps any.
There is no fix, and the problem exists for all N1s ever produced. Hit the buttons on their top side.
I disagree, I hit mine bang on the graphic. Originally I did have to use the top but an update did fix it.
yeah there is no software fix for this its a hardware issue, i have to press mine on the top half, its never really bothered me though because most of the time i use my thumb and its so large it never misses the buttons hehe
i'd be curious to know though if the ones claiming that its fixed on their N1's how old their N1's are the newer ones may have a different touchscreen that had this issue fixed if its even possible to fix, if you look at the width of the screen border at the sides that is about equal to distance of the dead zone at the bottom of the glass so my guess is its by design and they may not have even been able to make that area of the glass touch sensitive due to how close to the edge of the glass it is

try to press them at the lower half only pressing on the graphic works fine on my N1 most of the time, pressing right above the graphic always works. if i try with my index finger to press the lower part of any of the graphics it never works.
Anyone on cyanogen vouch for it being a software issue.
It's not software. I've had 2 N1's, and both do this.
I've disassembled one of the N1's about 10 times, and I've seen the under-side of those capacitive buttons. The part that detects the finger is really small. Probably 1cmx1cm box. And it's naturally placed a tad bit above the actual icon on the capacitive button. Just hit the button with your entire finger, not just the tip, and it will be fine.
Or keep crying about it. It's not ever going to be fixed. It's the way the phone was manufactured.

Yeah lower portion is no-go, but dead center is bang on each time.
