Rogers Dream Time Stamp Issue - G1 General

I just got a Rogers branded Dream straight from the shop yesterday. I noticed that the time stamps for the SMS are off by 2 hours (I'm in Edmonton, Alberta). Wouldn't be a huge deal except that it messes up the thread order so all the received texts are going to be at the bottom instead of the way it should be.
I had a Diamond before and had the same problem, so I know that it's a network issue. I've heard before that the reason for the problem is that Rogers does a time correction at the tower and then the phone does another correction which makes it off.
From what I've read, people on the Rogers network who had T-Mobile branded phones were having this same time stamp issue but it was fixed with Cupcake. Being as this is the latest official HTC ROM, I don't want to mess with it too much.
Any one else who got a Rogers branded phone on the Rogers network have this issue? Any suggestions for how to fix it?

What happens if you disable the "Automatic" option in Settings, "Date & time settings" and configure it manually? is the time stamp in SMS still off?

The time stamp is still off regardless of if it's automatically or manually set.
Does anyone else with a Rogers branded phone on the Rogers network having this problem too? I'd like to see if I'm alone in this or not...

SMS Timestamping Problem

Hey all,
I'm using the G1 with Rogers in Canada. I've been having a problem with the timestamping of incoming text messages.
They appear to be time stamped 4.5 hours behind. ex. if i were to get a text message at 8:30 PM, it'll tell me that it was recieved at 4:00 PM which throws off the SMS threading.
Is there any way to fix this? I spoke to TMobile and they told me the problem is carrier related and not in the actual phone. Is this true?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thx

I have this issue when I travel to the Dominican Republic... It is the carrier, for some reason Orange dominicana give me london time on my phone and everythin is screwed up...
I spoke to Rogers multiple times today and got them to do as much as cancel my service and reinstate it. That didn't seem to fix it. They said it might have been a problem with my SIM card so I tried a friends' SIM in my phone and same issue
Is anyone else on the Rogers/Fido network having this problem??
I have been having this problem since I last upgraded my tytnII. I was also told it was Rogers but they have not been able to fix it. If anyone knows anything I would love some info on this issue as well.
Thanks

If it is your carrier most likely the solution will not be from them. For them to solve it would mean they have to update the way their server processes SMS messages.

Those time settings should be coming from the tower you connect to so I'd agree.
try adjusting Settings / Date & Time settings / and manually change the time zone and see if there is any difference.
If not, goto Settings / Date & Time settings / and uncheck Automatic network-provided values and see if there is a difference.
solution
so i found a solution to the problem because rogers tech support are pretty useless lol
i turned off the automatic time updates from the network, set my time to GMT London and then adjusted my time to the current time
then i cleared my call log and all my sms messages (the only 2 things that are time stamped)
and now it all works no thx to rogers

Cannot receive calls

I have had my Rogers HTC dream for a while and it works great, I am unlocked using it on ATT network here in the US. I have no problems except recently I have noticed because some of my friends tell me that they cannot reach me.
My phone is on all the time and I can get calls most of the time however sometimes I do not receive the call, and the thing about this is that the phone doesnt tell me I even missed it.
Basically I have no idea anyone has called me except when my friend would let me know that they called me and I did not answer. they say that the phone rings for a long time and it does not go to voicemail, but I think that is a different issue as I have not set up my voicemail yet...
but the main problem is that I would get a call and I have no idea I even got that call. As the phone doesn't even notify me that I had someone calling me in the first place.
I have tried a few custom roms and changed to different ones in hopes that might resolve the problem. but it has not.
help thanks
AT&T 3G ?
I noticed your thread, and wondered if there were any other issues with using a EU version phone on US carriers ? I'm thinking of buying a EU phone (rogers, i believe) off ebay so I can enjoy the speedierness of 3g.
Is dropped incoming calls the only problem you've expereienced ?
How/where did you buy yours, and have you had any trouble with buying from overseas if you did ?
Thanks !
(sorry, i didn't really help at all)
only problem i experience is the missing calls... I got mine from someone on ebay who was in canada, I believe it is a rogers canada phone... could it be the rom??, I am currently running the HTC ADP 1.6 DRC83 ROM.

About using the 3G in Canada for Fido

Hi guys i have looked through alot of threads and i couldn't find the info. Basically i bought a HTC HD2 from Hong Kong back into Jan. Recently i have apply a data plan which i really want to use but i've tried every setting from either my service provider(fido) or from the people online but i still can't get it to work. I called HTC a couple times and i've told taht there's no way around since they said the GPRS bandwidth doesnt match the on in North america. Does anyone knows if it's true? And is there another way to take around? my 1 last question would be does changing the ROM, firmware, radio would help? Thank you so much for every input from you guys!

From what I understand, it is true. The Touch HD2 you bought physically cannot use the 3g band in any network in Canada. I dont' think this is a software limitation, but a hardware limitation so there is nothing a ROM upgrade can do.

Unable to recieve sms picture

I am just wondering on your opinion of what could be the cause of not getting an SMS picture someone sent me. In my last phones I would get a bunch of garbled text so at least I know it attempted to receive it.
I am able to send out SMS pictures and the same person is able to receive them.
suggestions?
Is your friend with a different network provider?
I have a similar issue, that a friend of mine with a different provider cant send me pic messages. They send, but i never get them.
I am with bell and they are with telus
hah, what a coincidence. exactly the same situation here.
i was able to receive pic messages from this same person with my 2 previous bell phones, but the sgs is the first one on the 'new' network, with the sim card and all.
tried it with 2 other people, one (on rogers, with an iphone 3g) couldn't send me a pic, another (also on rogers, but with a blackberry) was able to send me a pic.
telus = rogers
thats gotta be the difference. still unsure as to how to fix the situation though.....its extremely frustrating.
same situation... called tech support, they arent any help. I can send pics to my friend on Tmobile USA from Bell, but I dont get their pics on my vibrant . They have a vibrant as well so it should be working. Gotta be the networks fault.
yeah, i can get pics from a friend on koodo. that person is acting like a pic forwarder now hahaha....and i can send pics to the telus friend too.
anyone found any other info on the web about this? it cant be all that uncommon....?
I can't help, but I can add that I too have had problems receiving SMS messages from someone on a different network. In my case it's from a Fido iPhone user, while I too am with Bell Canada. The Bell rep I spoke to was able to send me a lovely picture of his keyboard without any problems.
Isn't fido part of rogers too? Maybe its a general rogers >> bell thing....
Is this just with the galaxy? Or have you had it work (gotten pictures from that particular contact) with previous phones?
What i cant figure out is that if the problem is with the network itself, shouldn't there be relatively easily-found reports of it elsewhere? I can find no such reports.....
Surfed the internet, and tried a whole bunch of different settings again, and still no dice. Still works from Koodo, but nothing from any rogers variant.
Highly ticked. Probably give bell a call monday, see what they say.
I was able to receive pictures on my old phone (Moto Razr2) although the last time was quite a while back (over a year). Perhaps Rogers changed something in the interim that broke it. Unfortunately I haven't anyone to further test this with.

[Q] Truncated SMS. Bell Mobility or Atrix?

I was hoping someone can help me here. I have a problem with my received sms messages being truncated. I phoned Bell and asked them, and they said its the Atrix. However I sent myself a sms, and it was not truncated. I just wanted to know if its Bell or the Atrix; and how I fix it.
Thanks!

Truncated?
I thought that was a mathematical term not...
What exactly happens again?
It's a Bell issue. I used to be with Bell on a Samsung Galaxy S and experienced the same thing. Same issue on Telus too

The messages are coming in broken up. If its over 160 characters it comes in 1/2 and 2/2 and so on. Now today, they are not even coming in order. I just got some in this order, part 4,3,2,1 and then 5.
I spent 10 minutes on the phone with Motorola Canada, and they confirmed that the phone should not be doing this at all, and its carrier related.
I also spent 30 minutes on the phone with Bell for the second time today, and they tried to blame all the other carriers, saying its the way they break up the messages to send. I had 2 "work" phones that were both with bell, and neither one did this, so I really don't know what its related to. They told me to call back in a week if it does not fix itself.
Plh36 - Did you ever phone for support? Did they ever give you a reason why it does this? I would have stuck with Rogers and just bought the phone from Bell had I known that they can't handle their sms messages properly

I'm on Bell (with an HTC Desire Z, not sure why I'm on this forum) and I get this problem sometimes. I figured it was due to the sending party. Dumbphones and CDMA phones tend to split up messages. Try getting someone also on a GSM network and a smartphone to try and send you a message. I tested it right now with a friend who has an iPhone 3GS on Fido, and I received a non-split message.
This message splitting is normal for Bell - I had this happening with my HTC Touch and Samsung Galaxy S.
Some SMS programs allow you to change how the message is or isn't broken up. Use GO SMS. I'm on Rogers but my friends use GO SMS or other messaging apps and we never have this problem. But I know what you're talking about. It's very annoying.

This. Its because CDMA limit sms to 160 characters so the companies that still employ CDMA as part of their network will limit them. There is nothing you can do, its the network, not the phone.

Hi, this is a problem with your atrix, very many people in Brazil have the same problem, see:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068693&highlight=Brazilian
I recommend you using GO SMS Pro as a replacement of your stock sms, and this would solve ur problem.
P.S. i'm using atrix on koodo
Fuaaaarkkkkk I'm on Bell and this happens to me now too. It's a nuisance!! Happens when people from Rogers send long text messages.
Maybe I'll phone and complain, score something good like a discount or retention rate plan lol
