Hey all,
I'm using the G1 with Rogers in Canada. I've been having a problem with the timestamping of incoming text messages.
They appear to be time stamped 4.5 hours behind. ex. if i were to get a text message at 8:30 PM, it'll tell me that it was recieved at 4:00 PM which throws off the SMS threading.
Is there any way to fix this? I spoke to TMobile and they told me the problem is carrier related and not in the actual phone. Is this true?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thx

I have this issue when I travel to the Dominican Republic... It is the carrier, for some reason Orange dominicana give me london time on my phone and everythin is screwed up...
I spoke to Rogers multiple times today and got them to do as much as cancel my service and reinstate it. That didn't seem to fix it. They said it might have been a problem with my SIM card so I tried a friends' SIM in my phone and same issue
Is anyone else on the Rogers/Fido network having this problem??
I have been having this problem since I last upgraded my tytnII. I was also told it was Rogers but they have not been able to fix it. If anyone knows anything I would love some info on this issue as well.
Thanks

If it is your carrier most likely the solution will not be from them. For them to solve it would mean they have to update the way their server processes SMS messages.

Those time settings should be coming from the tower you connect to so I'd agree.
try adjusting Settings / Date & Time settings / and manually change the time zone and see if there is any difference.
If not, goto Settings / Date & Time settings / and uncheck Automatic network-provided values and see if there is a difference.
solution
so i found a solution to the problem because rogers tech support are pretty useless lol
i turned off the automatic time updates from the network, set my time to GMT London and then adjusted my time to the current time
then i cleared my call log and all my sms messages (the only 2 things that are time stamped)
and now it all works no thx to rogers

Hey, Hi, I'm new here and I just bought the HTC P3600. I'm wondering what's up with it because I am receiving some SMS way after they are sent, example, I receive a sms at 4pm and the message shows time of reception is 3:30pm... things like that. It can be delayed like 30 minutes or just 2, I don't know if its the Smartphone or anything else.
Anyway, I'll upgraded to Windows Mobile 6, and sometimes it gets really slow, what could be the reason?
Thank you for your time.

It could be many things. I have a P3600 and have not met the problem you described. Are you in a well covered signal area? Because if signal is bad, service center may be trying to deliver the message to you and if it can't, tries a bit later.
As for WM6, it depends on the programs you are using and of the memory you have left (check settings, system, memory and look for running programs and free RAM).
Cheers!
Yeah, I have good reception.... Yeah I'll check that, thanks.
could that be an operator issue? did you try sims from other operators?
Yes it could be... no I haven't.. I'll give it a try...
me the same ploblem
Hi pacman 15 ,
I have exact the same problem .
there just arrived a sms from yesterday, when I open my text messages.
The sms sometimes only comes in when I open Text Messages sometimes directly .
I think the program is the problem and and not the provider.
If anyone has the same problem or solution pls .
Perhaps its the Radio version? 1.38.00.11
The ROM for me is 1.23.405.2
I didn't put wm6 on it yet , to scared to screw up.
there been issues with some operators being lazy when it comes to passing on sms's to other operators
though i only heard about it some years agoe here so i asume
somebody threw the book at them to make them get their act together
that's exactly my problem I don't know what to do to fix it... so from time to time I enter the messages to see if I receive one... :s
Same problem here. Have you found a solution?
its definitely the telephone networks and not your phone. especially during holidays when they get flooded with sms.
Same problem here but I really think it has to do with the phone/rom.
Never seen this problem when using Nokia phones for 5 years.

Think so. My phone doesn't ring when i receive an sms but it starts to when i go into sms page...
Should i try to flash a new rom and radio? have original htc rom (wm 5) and 1.38.00.11 radio
I don't think that will help since I've seen this with several different WM6-roms.
That's the problem: some sms arrive just when i go into sms page.So I receive 2 o 3 messages in one time...
But this does't happen every time, so i can't bring it back to shop.
I bought a new phone to use it with tom tom, internet explorer, etc but now i can't receive sms
I agree, this really sucks.
I'm a volunteer firefighter and recieve the alarms as sms,
not very good if I get the alarms 1 hour too late...

Not very good at all...
It seems to be a common problem... I wrote to HTC support 3 days ago, still no answer... Anyway i'll post here the answer.
Please write to htc and if anyone has the solution... post here.
Ive got the same thing, as does my gf (who hasnt got windows mobile based phone).
We are both on orange uk
If you post what network you are on, I wonder if they will all be the same...
I'm on Vodafone Italia, but i had no problem with my old phone.
I changed my sim, seems ok now...
Elisa, Finland here.
Trust me, it's not a network issue here.
No solution to this?
Vodafone Portugal, but I think it is a phone problem since I've had this problem since some years ago and only with this device. The same SIM on another phone (for example and HD2) works fine.
Heh, I'm hoping someone on here will have some idea of what has gone wrong with my XDA Exec.
Just dragged it out of storage, unlocked it, upgraded the radio to 1.15 and the phone to WM6, but for some reason, it won't make or receive phone calls.
Now the phone picks up a signal (GSM & 3G) just fine with all the card's I've tried in it, and it will send a text message as well, but whenever you try to make a phone call, it disconnects the call.
Anyone got any idea's on what might be the problem here, and how I'd go about fixing it? Your help is much appreciated.
Are you on vodafone?
Personally I'm on t-mobile, but it shows the same behaviour with o2, Orange, T-Mobile and vodafone sim cards. I've tried em all, they all send text messages, but no phone calls can be made.
As I said - bizarre

have you confirmed that the text messages are actually being sent, i have seen a case similar and it turned out the IMEI numer was blocked
You know I never thought of that, but yeah I sent my other phone a text message and it went through. Sold it now, so not my problem, but an intersting problem.

well done, mate
I just got a Rogers branded Dream straight from the shop yesterday. I noticed that the time stamps for the SMS are off by 2 hours (I'm in Edmonton, Alberta). Wouldn't be a huge deal except that it messes up the thread order so all the received texts are going to be at the bottom instead of the way it should be.
I had a Diamond before and had the same problem, so I know that it's a network issue. I've heard before that the reason for the problem is that Rogers does a time correction at the tower and then the phone does another correction which makes it off.
From what I've read, people on the Rogers network who had T-Mobile branded phones were having this same time stamp issue but it was fixed with Cupcake. Being as this is the latest official HTC ROM, I don't want to mess with it too much.
Any one else who got a Rogers branded phone on the Rogers network have this issue? Any suggestions for how to fix it?

What happens if you disable the "Automatic" option in Settings, "Date & time settings" and configure it manually? is the time stamp in SMS still off?
The time stamp is still off regardless of if it's automatically or manually set.
Does anyone else with a Rogers branded phone on the Rogers network having this problem too? I'd like to see if I'm alone in this or not...
sometimes i get my sms late, although it says the exact time the sms was sent, i still recieve it 2 hours later,
when i send an outgoing message, all my sms's come flooding in.. is there a fix for this.. is anyone else experiencing the same prob ??
i am on rom 1.66, official htc
what full rom version you using?
what network you on?
country?
has this been happening long time or recently?
it has been happening recently it was more common before the sms fix, its not all sms's just sometimes, and sometimes i dont recieve the sms at all
i am in uk, on o2 network, using the htc 1.66 rom, the one off the htc website,
i am SO close to selling this and getting an iphone
Give O2 a ring, I had this issue with my Nokia E90, and it turned out to be a corrupt message on their servers.
thanks mate,
dont think its the network mate, gave them a call.. cud it be the htc, becos the sms problems over the past are well known !

its a network problem genrally
delayed sms sound
I have similar problem on htc iolite since the new coocket roo303oom. The message sound is delayed to when i unlock my screen.
Im having exactly the same problem. Im on o2 uk and its really starting to get on my tits.
I sometimes get them an hour or 2 after they are sent, yet they are date stamped with the time they were actually sent. Did you manage to get to the root of the problem? I called o2 weeks ago about it and they just suggested i try a new sim, which they promptly sent me but it has made absolutely no difference. Is this a phone problem or a network problem?
Both of you on O2, I doubt it's got something to do with the phone.
sort of same issue with my HTC HD2 on Voda UK.
MEssages being sent or recived are not arriving on my phone!!
thinking of getting rid of phone now!!
just to annoy you mine works fine on virgin in the uk
Mine works fine on T-Mobile too
SMS delay
could somebody PLEASE find a fix for this !!!,

this is a widespread problem with htc's , if u google , late sms, you wil find, people on all networks are having this problem
i have contacted them and they say it could be the phone
Hi everybody,
I'm still experiencing this problem. That happened after the last ROM upgrade (see attached screenshot for current versions).
The message arrived a couple of hours later. Not it's about 24 hours or I don't receive the messages at all.
This might be a coincidence, but I often was browsing with Opera when the messages finally showed up.
I'm using Zenyee disable htc messaging 1.2 as I'm syncing with an Exchange 2010.
It's definitely not the provider, but the phone. I've put my simcard in a standard cell phone where the messages arrived in an instant.
Anybody got an idea?
It not the network, its a file in HTC phones. I havent been able to figure out what was causing it until now. I am 90% sure I know the culprit, but I am not 100% sure. I am on a TP2 and I just ran across this problem today after I installed a cooked rom I made, before everything was fine. I am in the process of testing this theory out. I should have a better idea by either days end, or at latest by tomorrow. I am testing 3 packages out at the moment to see if my theory is correct.
Will keep you posted.
I have the same problem too or sometimes I only get the text if I unlock the phone then I get 3 texts at once also sending text if it has more then 160 but less than 180 (i think ) then ppl don't seem to get my text weird no lol
I've had this problem in my HTC Trinity...
Fortunately I don't have it in the Leo...
I was hoping someone can help me here. I have a problem with my received sms messages being truncated. I phoned Bell and asked them, and they said its the Atrix. However I sent myself a sms, and it was not truncated. I just wanted to know if its Bell or the Atrix; and how I fix it.
Thanks!

Truncated?
I thought that was a mathematical term not...
What exactly happens again?
It's a Bell issue. I used to be with Bell on a Samsung Galaxy S and experienced the same thing. Same issue on Telus too

The messages are coming in broken up. If its over 160 characters it comes in 1/2 and 2/2 and so on. Now today, they are not even coming in order. I just got some in this order, part 4,3,2,1 and then 5.
I spent 10 minutes on the phone with Motorola Canada, and they confirmed that the phone should not be doing this at all, and its carrier related.
I also spent 30 minutes on the phone with Bell for the second time today, and they tried to blame all the other carriers, saying its the way they break up the messages to send. I had 2 "work" phones that were both with bell, and neither one did this, so I really don't know what its related to. They told me to call back in a week if it does not fix itself.
Plh36 - Did you ever phone for support? Did they ever give you a reason why it does this? I would have stuck with Rogers and just bought the phone from Bell had I known that they can't handle their sms messages properly

I'm on Bell (with an HTC Desire Z, not sure why I'm on this forum) and I get this problem sometimes. I figured it was due to the sending party. Dumbphones and CDMA phones tend to split up messages. Try getting someone also on a GSM network and a smartphone to try and send you a message. I tested it right now with a friend who has an iPhone 3GS on Fido, and I received a non-split message.
This message splitting is normal for Bell - I had this happening with my HTC Touch and Samsung Galaxy S.
Some SMS programs allow you to change how the message is or isn't broken up. Use GO SMS. I'm on Rogers but my friends use GO SMS or other messaging apps and we never have this problem. But I know what you're talking about. It's very annoying.

This. Its because CDMA limit sms to 160 characters so the companies that still employ CDMA as part of their network will limit them. There is nothing you can do, its the network, not the phone.

Hi, this is a problem with your atrix, very many people in Brazil have the same problem, see:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068693&highlight=Brazilian
I recommend you using GO SMS Pro as a replacement of your stock sms, and this would solve ur problem.
P.S. i'm using atrix on koodo
Fuaaaarkkkkk I'm on Bell and this happens to me now too. It's a nuisance!! Happens when people from Rogers send long text messages.
Maybe I'll phone and complain, score something good like a discount or retention rate plan lol
