Hi all,
I had a fault where if my battery went dead, it would not charge again, when I tried to power it up, it flashed red under the power button. After googling it, turns out the battery on board was the issue and there are various fixes. When i got it working, i reloaded firmware from SE official route. It did it again a week later. Sent it off to CPW, when it came back, they had reloaded the firmware, but this time it works.
The best bit is the fault ticket which stated "handset sold with faulty software" Sounds like a few of these have passed through their dept. Anyone else had this?
I have had this experience with both a Touch Pro and an Xperia X1. On both occasions it was simply a case of using a wall charger with enough grunt to kick start the battery again, rather than a USB port which didn't have enough power to start the charging process properly.
I haven't thought about it as a software problem, just a 'feature' of HTC phones. It isn't unique to the Xperia, though.

Ok so I was so happy that I finally got XDA live .2 running on my 1.5 month old Hermes. This site has helped me to no end. Being completely new to the Windows mobile platform, I've made it a point to check the forums here every day and read up on issues/tricks & tips. My utmost respect to the folks here at XDA-Developers. In fact I just contributed some money I was so thrilled. I never had to post a question before.
Short lived :-(
Due to my own stupidity. I dropped my Hermes on the carpeted floor in my office. Now it wasn't a huge hit to the unit. It fell 2.5 feet and it was carpet.
I picked it up and hit the power key (It was sleeping before I dropped it) but no joy. I yanked the battery, waited a minute, replaced it. No Joy.. I've tried lots of stuff
1) With battery in place, soft reset
2) Without battery in place and attached to power.
3) removed battery, waited an hour, replaced battery. No power on. Re-attached power.. No power on.
So long story short, I can't power it up. I get a red light when attached to power with or without battery in place.
I am screwed? I'll cry! I have removed the sim-lock and I am Super CID on the phone. It's over a month old from Cingluar. Do I have any hope of getting it fixed/replaced/someone here suggesting a fix?
Any help appreciated. I saw a post on the red light when charging but nothing so far has helped.
I know they are many genius' here. I'll donate more to this awesome site regardless of getting this fixed. I just hope I don't have to fork out another $500 for a new unit.
What we don't know in your case is whether dropping the device has just triggered the infuriating Red LED issue that will come good or whether more serious damage has occurred.
You say you read a post re this and I assume it was this one?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1077622&postcount=6
The one thing I did not see that you tried is having charger plugged in with battery out and whilst remaining connected inserting the battery. Wait several seconds, hopefully LED changes to amber. However, though frustrating it may be worth repeating this kind of thing repeatedly until you are bored to tears! I say this because some folks find that it just seems to start eventually but they've tried so many things they cannot pin down what exactly the solution was.
If it's more serious - which I rather doubt (only 2.5ft to a carpeted floor) then you could try a disassembly and reconstruction. (I'm assuming you do not have warranty) I suggest this as the first time I got this, this is what I did and on re-assembly - hey presto it worked. Did not actually do anything but perhaps it helped with a loose connection or helped discharge the circuits and reset charging function??

Hi,
had the same issue! No function, only red light - with/without/new power plug, accu - only red light.
My device only layed on my table at home - overnight crash effect...
I had to bring in the device to service...
Now i have a new one with higher s/n and all is good again...
best

Would having a second, fully charged battery help?
Sincerely,
Steve
It's going back to cingular.
Thanks for all the advice/help. Nothing seemed to work at all. Different battery, attching to power and inserting the abttery afterwards. However, I now can boot trhe unit, but I have to squeeze the sides of the unit (Or jam a piece os plastice bettwen the slide out keyboard) and the unit boots. Not very practical.
I contacted Cingular and a replacement is on the way. I put back on the original ROM that it shipped with and wiped everything else. I am Super CID, does this void my warranty? Will they even care? The issues is definietly HW so I hope they just can't power it up when they recieve it back. I'll play dumb anyway if they ask!
Now it's just trying to survive the next few days with either my SE P900 or My S710 (Sniff... sniff.. I want my Hermes back already)
Thanks again to all who posted advice.
MY phone died the other night and wouldn't charge. It blinks red when plugged in and will blink numerous times when you press power. Sometime when its plugged in and i press power it will only blink red once.
Its rooted with 024. Im screwed eh?
Also im with Rogers in Canada
I vaguely remember having this sort of problem before.
What was happening was the cable wasn't working properly for some reason, and my phone wasn't drawing enough power to charge. Therefore it not working, and the red flashing light. It wasn't actually charging.
Is it plugged in to charge via AC or USB? It might not be drawing enough power if it is charging through USB.
If it is charging though AC, have you left it to charge overnight? If a Li-ion battery enters a state of deep discharge, it may take a while for it to charge enough for the phone to be able to power on. This shouldn't be the case though, the battery should have failsafes to prevent this from happening.
If neither of these things do anything, I'd try either swapping the wall adaptor and/or the usb cable or the phone battery itself, and if those things work, you're out of luck.
Hope that helps.
Have tried two wall chargers different outlet and my two pcs. left it overnight twice. Im screwed lol

Tell Rogers that one of their Sales Reps burnt the phone while trying to show you how to charge it
Im going to take it back to walmart it is only 3 week old
I had the same issue with mine... it completely died out and would not start charging. Found it weird the phone couldn't be charged while being powered off (my old KRZR could do it)....
Anyway, I called up Rogers and told them the situation and they exchanged it with a new one. I don't let the phone go below 5% now in fear of it not being able to charge if it the battery is completely drained XD
was your phone rooted?
No... it was on the original firmware and all...
For some reason I forgot you rooted it when you replied. Rogers might not want to exchange it... Wal-Mart on the other hand will probably not even look at it and just exchange it.
Other option could be to buy a new battery?
it actually looks as if the usb port itself is chipped.
ok, i had the same problem with my old SE phones.
everytime i tried to charge it, it did not charge. other phones were charging thru same cable.
the problem in the OS.
what i did is upgraded thru SEUS.
try to plug it to PC thru USB cable without battery. then go thru procedure as u would go for upgrade and then put the battery back.
it might not work if your battery complitely dead, thought worth a try
Yea, cant connect to seus
your batter yshould be fine. it's just dead.
dont buy any battery just yet. i would replace the phone if i were u. without spending extra bucks.
this is the quickets solution i can think of.
however, for the future reference i will buy me extra battery just in case
good luck
Just had it turn on and it said less than 2% remaining connect to charger. It was connected. This happened before and it just shuts off.
yeah mine would open from time to time but instantly shut down also. Seems like it didn't have enough time to detect it was plugged in...
try returning it
This may sound weird but it worked for me. Try taking out the memory card and leave it out and plugging it in.
Yea. I tried every combination. Brought it to walmart qndvthey gave me a new one. 30 day replacment woo. Im nervous to root now

same problem... no solution ?
Hi, I'm new to the forum and I found this topic is describing the same problem I have. I bought an x10 mini pro (U20a) unlocked and it doesnt turn on with my service provider SIM, but if I try another service provider SIM card or without SIM card, it turns on normally. It's the same behavior, cause it wont charge either. Other users are reporting the same problem in SE support forums and it is related to X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro. It seems to be related to software since a factory reset or a repair using PC Companion solves the problem partially, but for some users the problem starts again when their batteries dries out and want to charge their phones. In case anyone find a solution that really works, please post it here.

I'm disappointed because I have the exact same problem, but I'm outside of AT&T's 30-day return period (and they're being typical idiots about the issue). They have no replacement batteries (of course) so I've had to request one directly from SonyEricsson, which will take 5 business days to deliver. (!) Hopefully, this will resolve the issue; however, before you returned your phone to Walmart, I noticed that you thought you had a problem with a chipped mini-USB port. Do you know if that was part of the problem?
I bought a second hand HD2, however it arrived with a third-party chinese battery. I contacted the seller who apologised and said that battery was a replacement because the original didn't hold a good charge, and he would send the original through the post. The battery however was fully charged so I flashed all the neccessary files and installed NAND Android (my reason for buying it in the first place), however today - the same day it arrived - I noticed that the orange charge light was going off, usually when the phone screen went off. This necessitated plugging the USB lead back in again, and within sometimes less than a minute the same problem would occur. I have checked the battery prongs, reset the the phone, changed USB settings etc and the problem persists.
Just wondered of I should be worried...I am unable to find an identical problem to this on the forums so I'm assuming it's not a ROM issue. I am currently using the Desire port from DFT.
Would a cheap Chinese battery demonstrate this sort of problem?
The seller says he never had an issue of charging the phone.
My next resort is to flash Windows Mobile back on, but I'm at work and a bit anxious so was hoping for someone with some experience to reassure me!
All USB syncing etc works fine...it is literally just charging that's the issue.
Maybe it's your USB that's faulty. I had a faulty usb that would go on and off sometimes too. However I don't see why the battery would affect the LED light, as the battery has to be connected to the phone for it to stay on, and so the battery can't be losing it's connection with the phone randomly, so it's either your usb cord, or the port.
Word of advice, don't let your phone lose power cuz of the faulty charging. I assume you know that MAGLDR doesn't let you charge the phone while off, so a dead battery in our case, is a dead phone. Happened to me once cuz of my usb, luckily there was still a small amount of charge left after i took the battery out and placed it back in.
It's definitely not the cable as I've used an official HTC charger with it which does exactly the same thing. I've also tried with a Samsung MicroUSB charger from my Galaxy S
Maybe it's the usb port then... That's the worst case scenario because you'd have to get the whole motherboard replaced...
However if in winmo you don't experience the problems, then it was just some software problems, so try a different radio and build, and see if they work.
Edit:
Or maybe it's the LED that's faulty. (never heard of such a situation but anything is possible) >.>
Does it still charge even if the LED is not orange/on?
Thing is though I can pretty much get it to stay charging if I don't let it lock and the screen go off? Could this still be a problem with the USB port? I'm getting worried now as I don't like the hassle of sending things back through eBay. I'm wondering if the seller bought a spare battery thinking it was just a battery problem and isn't telling the whole story. Foolishly I didn't test the device with Windows Mobile, I just went straight into flashing as I had put Android on my friend's HD2 the other day in exactly the same way...his is even an ex Virgin Mobile phone like this one. Needless to say, he is having no charging issues.
Dude dont worry , the problem is the battery ! i got two chinese battery ones and both cant charge with the phone, i have to use eksternal charger Dont worry the red and orange led flashes constantly when i try to charge it
Just buy a cheap charger from ebay , and buy a oem htc hd2 battery
Hi thanks for your reply. Mine doesn't flash red and orange though: the orange light comes on as normal and the phone reports it as charging, but after a while (seems to be when the phone goes to standby most of the time) the orange light turns off and the charging symbol disappears. If I unplug and replug again the light comes back on for a period. I've not tested thoroughly but I THINK it will stay charging when I leave the phone out of standby with the screen set to stay on for 30 minutes. I really HOPE it's a battery issue but it sounds slightly different to yours as mine does at least charge to a degree. I'm worried there's a blown capacitor somewhere on the logic board that's making the phone charge malfunction but obviously there's no way of testing until I get a new battery.
It concerns me that the seller said he had no charging problems...he must have been able to charge it somehow as the battery was full when it arrived...could I have burnt something out when flashing?!
Mine do charge to about 50 % and then it stops
Im 100 % sure its the battery becouse the battery has a circuitboard inside of it, and thats often messed up considering its made cheap in china . But test it with your friends hd2 original battery You can 2 see if the wet indicatior has been activated
the " white " paper next to the battery poles should be white and not pink, alltso where the skrewholes of the phone that should allso be white just to make sure your phone is not waterdamaget
I don't think flashing could have burnt something out. Overclocking and generating a lot of heat can burn something out though.
Didn't you receive the stock battery? Why not try it with that, and if the problem stilll persists then it might not be the battery. Either way, it will help you to test out the phone with a stock battery.
I tried it again after a few hours and it charged for a fair while before the light went off again.
I don't have the original battery as the seller has yet to mail it to me.
Does anyone else think it's worth me trying out a stock Windows Mobile ROM to see if it works? Might be that Android ROMs are less forgiving of cheap batteries with dodgy circuitry..
UPDATE
Ok so I've flashed Windows Mobile onto the device and wiped Magldr. The phone now alternates between a green and an amber light on the charging indicator. Looks like Windows Mobile won't charge it at all!
Does anyone know what this means?
I've checked for water damage in the areas mentioned and there is no sign.
Well your best bet is to send it in for repairs. But I'd suggest you test the phone out first with a stock battery.
Well I Only bought the phone yesterday so I certainly won't be paying for any repairs.
Got a replacement battery today - a genuine HTC one.
Plugged in, switched on....flashing between amber and green
I have a nagging suspicion this is going to be an eBay refund nightmare.
have you checked that the pins on the phone is not bendt? pins where battery poles connect to phone
problem solved? fingers crossed
OK so as a last resort I flashed radio 2.15 to the device. Seems that this has completely fixed the problem as without even restoring the phone is now charging properly. It seems that a corrupted radio flash had affected the charge somehow....at least I hope so.
The same problem has not come back again today at all.
Might be worth throwing this solution in a problems and solutions section as I haven't found any reference to it on the net and it might fix things for others panicking over their handsets.
That's nice.
Good for you, since it's a hassle to deal with sending back the device and shizz like that.
was just searching is anyone had a similar problem like me. to the OP yours sounds like my problem.
Had these fake OEM batteries for a while now. Until recently they have been charging ang turning off in 1 1/2 minutes. put a genuine OEM battery in and the problem is gone.
My solution was OEM can charge thru phone but fakes cant, use fakes as backup and charge it thru a desktop charger. goodluck
I have searched everywhere on xda and all over the web but I just can't find a solution. This is my brothers tablet and he just can't fix it. He bought it new from Comet and used it for a few months and then rooted it. Then a few months later it wouldn't upgrade the android version. It downloaded it OTA and when it tried to install it said error. I ended up flashing the latest version which ended up unlocking the bootloader. All was fine for a while until the stock usb cable had broken, charging worked very slowly when it was in a certain position. So I tried using some other usb cables and it said it was charging but it was ridiculously slow. After several hours it only went up a few %. Then the problem got worse, the tablet said it was charging but it never seemed to go up in battery. I bought a new usb hoping it would work and nothing seemed to have changed. He kept playing on it untill the battery was so low it powered off. Then we tried charging it without powering on and it looked like it was working (black screen with a charging icon). When we tried powering on the battery icon was empty and it went back to square one in a sort of loop. I had looked everywhere and some said we had to hold power down for 30 seconds but it just did this loop over again. Holding power and volume down did nothing, so we were at this one point and it was charging for ages and I gave it another go. Still nothing and after a few attempts it just went completely black and nothing appears on the screen at all. I opened the back without tampering anything at all to see if the battery had come loose and evrything looks ok. I know the warranty has been voided by rooting, unlocking bootloader and opening the back so returning it wont help, and comet shut down a while ago so they cant help. It was quite expensive for us so I don't want to give up just yet. I hope the xda community can help
Sounds like a bad USB port.

So you don't think the battery has any problems? If not how can I solve this problem? Can i replace the USB port or can i buy any docks?
Let me start from the begining.
So the other day I plugged my phone into USB in order to charge it (I had to keep it close to me hence why I didn't plug it into the wall charger). The phone was charging, showing up as a media device on the lappy, etc. I was doing stuff on the computer then I heard it vibrate so I went to see what it was. The blue notification light was on (facebook notification most likely) and when I pressed the Menu button the screen didn't come on. I also tried the Power button but same thing. So I decided to restart the phone. Since then, it hasn't turned back on.
I tested the battery in another device and it's working perfectly fine. Neither recovery nor download mode work. I tried to do some of the tests people recommended for sudden death, like plugging it into usb and leaving it for a while, trying to kick start it (putting battery in while holding the recovery buttons) - you name it, i've done it. I even went to the lengths of taking off the back cover to see if theres any crap that got in there, maybe a loose connector, anything burnt - nothing. Unfortunately, I don't have a multimeter to see if there is a charge running through the board. Looks like sudden death to me, the only thing is - I rooted the phone on the 1st day I got it and I don't live in the country where I bought the phone so sending it over for warranty repairs would be a pain in the ass. What can I do? I would greatly appreciate your help, if you manage to help me fix my baby, I will ENSURE to send you a donation for a nice, big, cold beer (or maybe a few).
Looking forward to any answers! I really need my phone, I use it for work.
It seems like a hardware issue... you need to take it to a local store to scan it's hardware.... maybe something gone wrong while charging which made something be destroyed inside it..... hope its not the motherboard.....
it happens sometimes, when charging current fluctuate, it destroys the charging circuit and in result it damage the whole current circuit, local repair shop can solve the issue.
