Bye - G1 General

It was a nice run, but the community has drastically changed over time.
The soul reason i was tricked so easily, is because i was blind in my ignorant beliefs that XDA was a community of developers. Instead, it resulted in a split. The intelligent people, who understand hard work and help development, and the asinine, those who complain and whine and will kill to have a new release.
This is my brief resignation. I will most likely be stopping by to provide my 2 cents now and then, but no more releases from me.
A special thanks to the intelligent individuals who can understand where i'm coming from with this decision.
Good bye everyone.
also if you'd like to help my cause still (father is still unemployed, and i'm losing hours at my job now on top of it all) please feel free to donate.

I completely understand haykuro. That's exactly what happened over at insanelymac and out osx86 developers. I was a long time member at one time moderator and irc admin then all the young dumb don't want to read search or learn teeny boppers who want us to do the hardwork and id they mess up they're parents computer its our faults. That's all these ppl do is complain complain. They don't relize the hard work we do.

Oh and G1 era is over time to move on to better things
Its at its max already the SPL is pushing it to its bare limits.Devs are moving on up!
Max will do acer, eugene droid,cyan has a nexus i think.Not sure what other devs will do though..

No offence but people like you are nasty. Its like robbing a homless guy. Cyanogen takes time out of his day to bring you the latest and greatest ROMs and trys his best everytime, and the work shows off! This is the 2nd time I've seen a member trash a Dev, and not just any Dev, but Cyanogen! Cyanogen's ROMs are top notch work. Barley any FC's and all of those are from the 3rd Part Applications. I don't know what's gotten into you people, but you should learn to respect others, and yourselves. You need to learn some manners. I'll write you a book, "Respecting Others for Dumbies"... I can already see the cover. I know that the time will come when Cyanogen releases a ROM that makes a drought in the Android world, AND GOOGLE cry! And I believe that then and there you should apologize and mail Cyanogen a letter on how bad you feel about trashing him. THIS IS WHAT MAKES ME WANT TO SELL MY G1, AND BUY A HTC TOUCH HD2... I dont see why people are obsessed with having the latest version/firmware...For example..Some were mad about not having 2.0 or 1.6 hero which is dumb...Or they want MT on dialer and MT chargers and MT screens and MT people and MT MT..MT this MT that MT'd you in the eye
Gotta remember its just a phone...Another piece of hardware...The G1 is 1yr couple months ol and thats pretty new still considering what its capable of.

at least someone's got his priorities straight.
i lurked here for at least 5 months before putting my say in anything.

The following is crossposted from the midNIGHT ROM threads.
I'm not sure if Rob posted anywhere here yet, but as per his Twitter feed, he's having to make some sacrifices as a parent and is selling his Epic and extras on eBay. Unfortunately, this also means that he will no longer be developing for right now.
On behalf of myself, all of ACS, and the userbase at large, I'd like to thank Rob (ptfdmedic) for everything he's contributed to the Epic community, and all of the time and effort he's put in, in his already busy schedule and hectic life. Our very best wishes are with he and his family.
I and ACS fully support Rob's mission to spread autism awareness. I would like to encourage everyone who has not yet added an awareness banner to your signature to do so now, whether Rob's version, or the version in my signature, by ZHkilla.
But don't just toss up a banner and call it a day - if Rob has taught us anything, it's that autism is a disease that we the public really must understand better. Read the Wikipedia article, read Rob's blog, and keep in mind the challenges that parents of autistic children, and autistic individuals themselves face. Understand that those on the spectrum are people first and foremost, and that while they may be a little different, they deserve all the respect that any decent human beings deserve.
Once again, thank you Rob, for your generous donation of time and effort to making our phones run better, making this community more harmonious, and raising autism awareness. I read your blog a while back on The Man with Bare Hands and it really touched me. I never got around to posting a banner but will do so when I get home tonight. Best wishes.

Man that really sucks. I don't post here often but I check in on xda every time I have a free minute. You guys are all great at developing but ptfmedic has always stood out to me not just because of his roms but because he always seems to be very helpful and very patient with the questions around here. Genuinely seems like a great guy. I have also followed his blog on many occasions and yes a lot of it is vey touching. If he has to go I'm sure he will be missed by many.
My question is (without knowing any details about his situation) Is there enough members in the Epic forums to make a one time say $5 or $10 donation to a save ptfmedics Epic fund. Seems like he goes through a lot on a daily basis and that phone could be his only outlet. I hope I am not out of line even suggesting this but I hate to see such a valued member of this community have to leave.

I've been going through the roundabout process of getting a new one for quite some time now. I should have one within the next week. Up until about 4/5 I'd had one since launch.

Read his blog. It will give you a huge insight into his life and the daily battles he goes through. I've been lucky enough to be on his beta test team since version 2.6. In that time I got to know him as a person and not just as a member of the forums and rom chef, and for that I feel like I've been very lucky.

Please stop with the dumb comments against the devs. This is totally uncalled for and should stop now. I am someone who really enjoy's coming to this site. I come here to read, learn and always am looking for new fun things to flash.
IMO all the devs here are amazing and remember they do this all for free, They dont have to give us nothing but they give us amazing Roms, Kernels and Themes to make our phones better and allows us to customize it how we like. You are all entitled to an opinion but if you have nothing nice to say then you should'nt say it. Dont start crap because your Rom hasnt been updated in a few days, you know the devs are working on it and will release it after its been tested. I know i want something tested before i flash it and i would think you would also. So lets remember we all are here for the same reasons and i would like to make sure the devs know we appreciate them and all they do for us. I dont want devs to start getting pissed and say forget you all so lets try being nicer to them.
Sorry for this but this is just my opinion and i hope you all would agree with me.

Why, Why would anyone who is a member or user of XDA, bash on the Developers?? This is ASININE!! The developers here have made your devices so much better than they are stock. they spend countless hours fixing what the carrier and manufacturer screwed up in the first place and pawned off on us as GOOD STUFF Every time I have Questions or Issues with something it has been a developer who helped me, so in return they get all my support. Then I take what I already knew and what I learn here and apply it to helping other who are not at the level i am yet. So if this forum is dedicated to making things better for your devices and your understanding of those devices and its OS, which they MOST definitely ARE, why not show support and ask for help if something is going wrong or you don't understand, most of us are truly here to help. Instead of complaining and bashing do some research and find out how to help yourself, who knows, you might get so addicted to it you become a developer yourself.

Thank you... It's nice to see people are agreeing with me on this.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you. Also, remember to not be frustrated when they can't instantly solve a problem. There is a reason that they make the roms, and you don't. Most people are busy.. maybe they have a job, family, and/or school. The fascinate really has talented people working on it. We are some of the lucky people that flash new toms and kernels without a locked bootloader.

Wait, so I can't demand faster updates and better support for all the money that I'm NOT paying? You mean to tell me that I can't catch attitude with the devs who are doing all of this for free? Are you trying to suggest that I can't complain about the bleeding edge software/firmware and a**kicking mods that we get from them when Samsung and Verizon wouldn't walk across the street to piss on our heads if we were on fire? Are you implicating that I don't have the right to leave criticizing posts and berate the devs when this awesome stuff isn't exactly to my liking? Especially when it's user error and all my fault? Just curious, but where did you see anyone bashing a developer? The only bashing i have ever seen in the fascinate forum was of people who post things that are obviously not their own work. A lot of comm rom supporters used to have bad attitudes towards nitro for including tsm parts in his rom, but he has gotten rid of those now so there is no reason to be mad at him.

I think this thread was started in response to chronster's comments in your Crysis Revolution thread about Community ROM being broken and your theme not being made for other ROMs.

Well there has been people coming into the posts and complaining that this Rom or theme hasnt been updated. i mean i am all for the newest updates to any of the Roms, themes, launchers and anything you all do for us. So basically i was just trying to put it out there that anyone who is not contributing to any dev or mods should just be patient and in time all their ROMS, Themes, CWM and everything that you all do will get done. I was just getting tired of people demanding stuff, i mean come on if you want something bad enough and you can't wait then oh well learn to do it yourself. There are plenty of people waiting for Comrom v 2.0 and they will have to wait until it has been tested and released, when it is it will be awesome b/c these good people who have jobs and lives outside of this posts are willing to do amazing stuff in their free time. I know your Tw4 is going to be awesome and you do amazing work.
I just want everyone to be nice to you all as they should be showing their appreciation instead of sometimes being asses to some of the devs. I didnt enjoy my phone when i first got it and now i love it because of all that you all do... I just wanted you all to know it and i hoped everyone else agrees with me.

He has also tweeted he is working on other phones still naming the project eternity. I really never seen anything from him but words, no results. Im not sad.

Great! Now we have lost a great dev because of a few assholes! Yes, we do still have great devs and with those devs, we will be ok. However, kholk has put a lot of work into the atrix and this is how we thank him? By running him away. He would have been a great contributor to the atrix! Just look at some other phones he has made ROMs and kernels for! He truly is a great dev and now he won't even be helping us! And I hope kholk sees this and comes back. These devs need to know that we appreciate then or they leave, like this! Everyone who appreciates the things he has done so far, comment here, show him we appreciate it and maybe, just maybe hell come back.

Yes I have seen his other ROMS, but that does not help us here. I guess that tenfar, Sograth, eval_, unknown_, Edgan, The2dCour and many others have not done anything as amazing as kholk's work for the Atrix. O PLEASE COME BACK.

Stated like a pro! Your exactly correct! Kholk is only going to be the first to go if people don't straighten up! The atrix has taken a long time to be unlocked. A lot of devs are already working on phones that came unlocked that are already out! Don't push the great devs that we have now away! Also, I do believe this belongs in the dev section, the general section and every other atrix section! People need to express their gratitude and the devs need to see that they are greatly appreciated!

It's a shame a dev can be attacked like that by so many...its even more of a shame that a dev ( as hard as it can be ) can take all of those attacks to heart so much that they actually abandon their projects.
Sometimes dev forums can be like high school yes, however we are (mostly) adults here and insults and attacks should only be taken with a grain of salt... although some members can be huge troll's there does need to be some level of thick skinned'ness as an adult and some of us DO need to learn to let the majority of insults and attacks roll off of your back.
This is the real world folks and there are thousands of members in the Atrix community alone that don't understand how to code and program. As a result there will be harsh words spoken and as immature as they are you need to learn to let go.
There truly are more members here that aren't trolling and are extremely great-full for the work that devs put in since us (real) adults know that we would never be able to understand what and how you do things.
It's disappointing that he is no longer involved because of being perhaps a little sensitive to criticism and i hope kholk reads this so that he may come back with the understanding that there are just deuchbags in this world and there is nothing we can do about it and i think this goes for all dev's on any phone in any forum.
Kholk thank you for very much for your hard work that you put in. Know that it has not gone un-appreciated. There are just more people that appreciate it than don't.
On that note i end this rant in the hopes that more dev's don't jump ship due simply to the fact that there are people in this world that either simply don't have nice things to say, don't understand how difficult coding is and don't appreciate the hard work...
If you aren't good with criticism then perhaps you don't belong in a community where sharing your work is expected.

Well, as far as I can tell, kholk talked a lot about what he was working on but I don't know what he has accomplished. I'm not saying he accomplished nothing, I just have no idea what he actually did. From the results produced by the other devs for this phone, I am happy with the results and can suffer a tantrum.

I never said that! I have told every one of them that I appreciate what they have done! Everything each of them has done is great! I am saying that we need every dev we can get! I am not saying that kholk is any better than any of those guys. I am saying that we could have benefited from his developments. I, for one, don't want to see any of our devs go. EVERY ONE of then are great to have and do amazing things with such a complex device!

My point being is this. Alot of our community has put Kholk on this high pedestal. He gave us tidbits of information on things he was working on, but no results. I know its free (blah blah blah), but when you offer anything up, you should except criticism.

Everyone please take note. The majority of the criticism directed towards kholk was not from the screaming masses and idiots on xda, but from very well respected people in this community. If you have been on IRC, you know who I am talking about. I don't know if that changes anything in your eyes, but this is not an example of trolls driving a dev out.
Kholks problem was that he simply promised too much and didn't deliver. He asked for money as though his projects were mostly or partially complete, but never actually published them. I don't doubt that he is intelligent, he simply overreached himself on the ATRIX, and the community after a very long time, did backlash against him.

I want to just take a second and say thanks for ALL the support I have received from most of you since I started out here. I realize that Autism and Android were an unlikely pair but I thought it worked well.
Lately there has been an increasing level intolerance for what I was trying to do here. I know it's a vocal minority but they have become louder and louder. I have become quite disheartened as of late with the direction this forum has taken and I'm going to step back for a while. My ultimate goal is to further the spread of Autism Awareness and hopefully get Android4Autism launched by the end of the summer or early fall and so I'm going to redirect my efforts there.
I honestly had the best of intentions with everything I was doing here but it has apparently run it's course. Aside from asking you to "think about donating your old devices for the Android4Autism project (and I specifically said not until after everything was set up and legit so that everyone was protected) and votes, I never asked for anything. Despite the claims that have been made to the contrary about my intentions.
I want to thank everyone for voting for my blog but as you may notice the thread has been moved after being here for over 2 1/2 months. I realize that it was not "on topic" but it was a positive thread. I thought it was amazing how everyone unified and worked together for a common goal. I suspect that the vocal minority contributed to this and that saddens me. I'm not angry this happened, it's just that fact that some people would take it upon themselves to get this removed from our forums after all this time, instead of just not reading it.
I'm not looking for anything out of this. After all you have given to me, I felt I owed you an explanation for my decision. That's the very least I can do. I'll never be able to repay all the kindness and support you have shone to both me and my family. You have all made a difference in our lives. You have helped to spread awareness and for that I will forever be grateful.
Please don't turn this into a flame war either. I'll close the thread myself. I just want everyone to understand how grateful I am for everything and that my stepping back is my choice. My methods are becoming the target for some people and I won't change the way I'm doing things because I believe in what I'm doing. So the best thing is to just walk away. At least for now.

im not a homer by any means but when my Epic took a swim i was forced to boot my moment up and went back to SDX developers for roms..i REALLY wished the Epic would have caught on over there..just seems like a much better environment....this site has driven away quite a few developers..its a shame..thanks for everything you do rob.not just over here but with your Windows Mobile stuff over at PPCGeeks.if people cant tolerate your Autism Awareness, with all the good stuff you put out for the Epic, then this isnt the place for them..it shouldnt be the other way around...

Just as hard as it is to follow the forum rules. Say for instance that I considered the elimination of homosexualaity a "positive cause". Should I be allowed to push that agenda here at the cost of the owners of the site simply because I think this is a positive agenda? (According to some users, yes...)

Regardless of what Rob has given to us (the community) why does he not have to follow the rules of the forum? Why is it appropriate for him to come and complain that his thread was moved to the correct forum and he is quitting because he disagrees with the opinion of those that pay for and/or manager this resource to be available to us?

Keep that head up Rob we are all still behind you. You showed us a piece of yourself and your family here and became a friend to most of us. Keep in mind one thing, you are dealing with a lot of minors on heee and they cant grasp the idea they are ****ting on you with some of the comments about your intentions. They arent mature enough to see how it comes out. The mature adults will remain on your side.
Never feel you asked for anything or too much. Your community came together to give you what you deserved without you asking for it.
Take a rest man play with those kids, your headed in the right direction with the autism awareness, families will benefit from your sweat!
