Hello,
I´m featuring a problem with the backlight on external powersupply. It quickly (2-4 seconds) dimms down to lowest step, regardless the setting in "settings - power - backlight".
I would like to have it on normal level as long as I´m working with the deviece. Than after specified time (according to the settings) it may dimm down or turn off the light.
This is quite annoying as working on the device while constantly dimming up and down is not much fun.
Can anybody help please?
(Search button didn´t, also this may be no new bug
Thank you,
Bluecharge
Do you have AEBPlus installed?
No I haven´t.
Can it help?
No it usually makes it worst.

Did you check the keyboard settings ?
(in Settings/Personal/Buttons see the last tab called Backlight)
Is it dark when you try and use it? the light won't come on unless the ambient light level is low!
Thanks Tekflow,
Yes I did in both positions, auto and disable auto.
It pisses me off.... the JJ is brand new out of the box, I kindda hoped I'm stupid and I just don't know how to handle it...:-(
Best,

KB Backlight
Hi Tintoy,
Yes tried it even in complete darknes, but if you disable the Auto KB backlight sensor, there is suppossed to be a KB BL manual button (user manual pg 10, button # 5). Tried both sits. Nada.
Thank you,
Saar
Is it a hardware defect? On my MDP Pro it works very well.
Sounds like a hardware problem, doesn't it? Off to the service centre...

Hi guys, faulse alarm, I'm standing in the corner.... It does work but in its own logic, ...only when you actually press a key. I've expected that it should be on/off once the sensor dictates it's dark. Probably my own logic is faulty as I guess it could suck up the battery juice.. anyway, all's OK, thx .
Best,
Saar
that's good news ....
What I did is the following: I unchecked the "Enable Keyboard ..." and put the time to 10 sec for "Turn off if not used...".
So each time I press a key on the keyboard, it illuminates: I found this useful even in full day time in order to see clearly the signs in red. On another hand I did not notice really a significant difference in battery life.

What would be preferable to losing the cool auto-sensor altogether is a reg hack to adjust the amount of darkness that triggers the sensor. It's set waaaaay too dark at the moment, and needs to come on in less dark surroundings. Any ideas?
I to have a exec, and have the keyboard back light set to come on when i push a key, but what is the button next to the voluse slider for as it dose nothing
Thanks
John
If the screen backlight times out, pressing that button turns the backlight back on again. This avoids you having to tap the screen or press a key thus accidentally selecting something you didn't wanna do!
OH! thanks for the info on the button, But i have my screen and backligh both set for 5 mins so asume this buton would be needed if you set the screen to turn off after say 5 mins but the backlight to go off after 30 seconds?
Thanks
John
Perhaps someone has an explanation why my backlight doesnt light up again when a button is pressed?
From time to time, the backlight goes dark and even though I am pressing buttons, screen, power button, etc, the backlight doesnt come back on. I have to search for the backlight adjuster (in the dark) in order to switch the light back on.
I have wisbar advanced and SpbPocketPlus installed - might that effect this somehow??
Thanks for any advice!
i have exactly the same problem and don´t know a solution. ;-(
Wisbar Advance 2.6.0.1 is installed, SpbPocketPlus not.
I think it comes more often if i use the camera, but it is not reproduceable...
I've never had this problem before, I dont have wisbar installed.
You may be doing a press and hold function on your device. Quick press of the power turns it off, a long press turns off the backlight. the only way to turn it back on is to long press the power button.
also you have settings that turns the back light screen off, which may be affecting this.
This problem used to occur on the O2 XDA2i ALL THE TIME!
Just my 2 cents. Sorry, not very helpful, but defo a problem we've seen before. You hvae to go into settings to start the backlight back up.

It hasnt happened lately (actually ever I posted this thread strangely enough) but its quite embarrassing when you have to find your way through a dark screen.
I put a large symbol of the brightness adjuster in one corner (using SpbPocketPlus), so I only have to find that symbol rather then start --> settings --> etc..... its not a cure but it makes it easier switching it back on.
If anyone has a remedy for this problem, please share...
Not sure why this happens, but I fixed it using...

didn't help
I tried and still use the neo backlight fix. But this fix is only for forcing via startup a longer measured time for the light to stay on.
I too have suffered with the problem of the backlight not coming on every now and again after starting up the prophet. I've had this problem on numerous roms too which is interesting. What more interesting is that even in the days of my owning a Blue Angel (Orange M2000, MDA) I STILL remember having this intermittent problem with the light not always coming on. Only way I fixed it was to simply soft reset the device. Whenever I did that and when I do it now, it stops it happening for week or so at least.
I still use the neo back light fix too as my phone has the quick light turn off problem without it. Neo certainly created a good fix no mistaking.
All the best
Nicholas
i had the same problem...just put the same value to the standby and backlight ...( both 3 mins on mine)...and never happened again....i think it helps...
I have a strange backlight & power-off problem on my Qtek S200:
When the backlight is switched on and I press the Power button shortly to switch it to sleep mode, the screen gets blank but the backlight does not go off.
So now I wait first when the backlight timer goes off before switching the device to sleep mode manually.
Another problem:
When the power settings is set to switch the device off automatically, it reboots when the timer goes off. So my solution is to disable the auto power-off feature.
How to fix this to the original behaviour ?
I tried the neo_backlight_fix and set the backlight timeout to the same value as the standby timeout, but with no avail.
My Qtek S200 has still the original old ROM (G4 model) and Windows Mobile 5.0:
ROM version info:
IPL: 2.10.001
SPL: 2.10.001
GSM: 02.07.20
OS: 2.10.7.25
Please help me to solve the problem.
Maybe I messed up a lot and the only solution is to install a newer ROM which is available since some time at qtek.nl.
Thanks in advance.
When backlight goes OFF (after certain perion of inactivity) it is still little bit ON. It is not visible during daylight (because backlight is very low), but visible in dark room. Why? How to fix?

I do not want to use PowerOFF option for some resons (for example some alarms are not able to work after long period of powerOff state. With my old Imate jam backlight turned comletely OFF, but with Atom - no.
Sorry answering in English, because many readers are not Russians
No problem! So, all alarms and notifications must working from the power off mode.
But still I wonder:
1. Is it normal, that backlight is always little bit ON (visible only in dark room)? Or I need to go to the service?
2. If it is normal - is there any posibility to turn backlight off (via registry etc)?
Does anyone know of a utility to directly switch on and off the white LED used as camera flash on the TyTn? It strikes me that this would make a great flashlight (torch) if it could be easily switched on and off from a today screen launcher icon or from a hard key assignment.
I know you can switch it on by starting the camera utility and switching to movie mode (it comes on immediately, you do not actually have to start recording a movie), but that takes too long when you are fumbling in the dark!
VJCandela.

Thanks!
Many thanks. Small donation on the way - do not spend it all at once!
Why do you say prolonged use will cause damage? It looks like an LED to me, which should have long service life. Admittedly for the still camera, electronics could be rated for flash use only due to thermal reasons, but it comes on for longer times when recording video. If rated for more than a minute or so continuous use, I'd expect it to last for the lifetime of the LED.
Yeah, we've had discussions about this, and although I've never had problems with it, others have burnt out their leds after prolonged periods (> 1 min I guess).
I use an automatic timeout after 30 seconds.
We're not sure why the LEDs can burn out, possibly they're being driven to an extra bright setting, or only rated for flash use on a pulse basis.
The led can actually go even brighter, but it's not worth it for the risk.

Small problem....
Sorry Vijay, I ran into a small problem.
I was hoping to assign this to a hardware button (long press of the camera button using Vito ButtonMapper), with a toggle action. However, except for -on and -off, all the command modes seem to require the button to be held down for the light to stay on. Even with the no-parameter version, the screen window dissapears again when I release the button.
Is this behaviour intentional? If so, would it be possible to have a -tog switch such that if the LED is off, it switches it on, if on off?
I think this was intentional, so that you couldn't accidentally leave it on.
However, which version are you using, the full version or VJCandelaLite?
I think the lite version offers specific command line options, but even then, I think the auto off was intentional.

I tried all the installed shortcuts, including VJCandelaLite. With the exception of VJCandela On and Off, they all switch the LED off as soon as the button is released. Interestingly this behaviour is different if you just tap the shortcut in Programs. In this case, generally the LED stays on for a 30 second timeout. There must be some fancy programming here to detect it's started from a button?
VJCandella On does not seem to have a timeout (or it's too long for my patience!), but problem with this is you'd need to assign another button to the Off function, hence my suggestion of a toggle. I'd be happy with a timeout on it though, but not with having to hold the button pressed all the time.
I did a quick test using the camera app supplied with the TyTn - you can switch the LED on in video mode and it times out after 2 minutes, so HTC clearly regard it as safe to run it this long.
First of all, I was using PM Recorder and now I use Audio Notes Touch from VITO, to record all my phone calls. It is very useful to have the phone call recorded when somebody gives you an address, a phone number, or a name of a person, you don’t need a pen to write it down.
Now the problem: After the other person answers or you answer and the application starts recording, the backlight of the screen turns on to maximum level of intensity and it stays like this until you finish your phone call. It does not reduce the light level of intensity after a minute or so. When not using the application to record, the light is reduced to minimum level and it stays like this until I hang up. I have found a workaround to press the power button to turn off the whole screen and the light when I am in a call, but sometimes I forget and a lot of battery power is consumed during the call. I have also tried to set the backlight level both on battery and on power to minimum level, but still the recorder application is able to turn the light at maximum level, I don’t know how.
If you want to do a test, set the backlight level on battery and on power to the lowest level, and then start the Voice Commander. You will be surprised, because you will see the backlight to maximum level.
Now the question is: How can we turn the backlight off completely and automatically when in a call? I think the battery consumption is double or maybe triple when in a call and with the backlight turned on to maximum level.
Maybe using S2U2 will help you. Also look at this thread.
I have installed the application.
With the black screen option the screen is black, indeed, but the backlight is still on at maximum power.
How is it possible to put the device into standby when talking instead of black screen? Something similar when I press the power button one.
Thank you.
there is a design flaw that prevent the backlight from turning off when blanking screen..the only solution is to use the backlight controller to turn off the screen.
I am not aware of any ways to put the phone in standby when talking.
If you are using custom rom you can use built-in in-call recording if it is good enough for you
Hello keyx. I tried all the custom roms including yours, I really appreciate your work, but for me the original rom fits the best.
Audio Notes Touch and even S2U2 somehow have a method or triggers a function to detect when a conversation is started.
Is there a possibility to add a script via Mort Script, maybe, to launch the backlight controller when I am on the phone?
I have no idea you would have to try to code that yourself..
Does anybody have an idea how can I trigger a started conversation?
What function or procedure can I call to find this?
Thanks.
Finally I succeded. If anyone interested I will post my solution. Thanks for your answers.

post ahead!
I have created a script with MortScript.
While(1)
If(ProcExists("Audio Notes Touch.exe")=1)
Run("\iPAQ File Store\Program Files\Backlight Controller\WM6_612C_Backlight.lnk")
EndIf
Sleep(10000)
EndWhile

WM6_612C_Backlight.lnk it is a shortcut with the /togglescreen parameter.
I have made a copy for Audio Notes Touch.exe and renamed it to Audio.exe and modified the Start Menu shortcut to point to the Audio.exe. This way I can listen to my recorded phonecalls afterwards.
