GPRS settings: APN authentication type - G1 General

Hi all,
I have an HTC Dream branded TIM, which I can use for internet access with the APN settings provided by my operator.
I could also use a different APN which requires username/password authentication but up to know I was not able to use it with my phone.
(Yes, I am already aware of the usage of the "APN type" field in order to instruct the phone which APN profile to use )
I suspect it is an authentication-related issue because in the APN configuration of the DREAM I cannot define any configuration related to the authentication method (PAP, CHAP, etc.).
My phone is rooted (JF1.5): can you hint me to understand:
1) which log I can read in order to check why I cannot get the connection with the APN
2) which shell command I can use to try to verify the networking configuration binded with the APN: IP address, DHCP, DNS, ...
3) how I can set the authentication used when connecting to the APN
Thanks for your help, experts!

Cingular 8125 on AT&T

Can someone point me in the right direction I've doen numerous searchs and talked to tech support (useless) . I have a 8125 that I picked up, although I am a AT&T sim card user (our company hasn't upgraded yet) so I unlocked the phone and it works great. although I can not access mmode or anything email or Internet related unless using wifi.
Can someone point me in the right direction for some instructions on how to get this thing set up to work with the legacy AT&T wireless system?
You need to manually enter the AT&T GPRS and MMS settings.
Call up AT&T and ask for the necessary information. They'll give it to you.
PM me you're email address I have the cab file that I can send to you.

Well they don't exist anymore and the guys at Cingular could only get me so far. that's why I'm looking around for it.
Mark, you have a PM, thanks in advance
Cab file didnt work Mark. Only change it made was resetting my today backround to the default. all the settings are still the same.
is there a list of settings or a walk through for setting it up manually somewhere?
It should have worked.
Here is what I have:
MMS Configuration
Retrieve Messages Immediately
Save Sent Messages
Servers
AT-T MMSC
10.250.250.100
9201
http://mymsc.mymmode.com
My Work Network
100k
Wap 1.2
My ISP
AT-T Internet
Cellular Line (GPRS)
Proxy - Proxy Name
Work Network
AT-T WAP
Proxy - Proxy Name
Proxy
This network connects to the internet
This network uses a proxy server
WAP 10.250.250.250 9201
Secure WAP 10.250.250.250 9203
Hope this makes sense.
Another option is to go to the Cingular web page and choose Support, Phone/Device Support.
Select the following:
Network: former AT&T Wireless"
Manufacturer: Siemens
Model: SX66
Use the information in Device Setup to configure the browser/internet and MMS settings. It won't match exactly because the SX66 is a 2003 device, but you should be able to figure it out.

Give this a try. It doesn't have the 8525 listed (of course). But I'm sure you can choose one of the other devices and the info should be somewhat standard.
gprs settings for suncom
I am using an HTC TyTn, it is very similar.
the settings that i haqve gotten to work after much trial and error are as follows.
make a new connection called "internet"
Cellular line GPRS
access point name: mobileinternet
user name, password, and domain are blank
and thats it.
MMS settings are:
create a server i called it suncom mms
gateway: 66.150.33.115
port:9201
server address: http://mms.suncom.net:8088/mms
connect via: i set to my isp (im not sure if this matters but it is working)
wap version: WAP 1.2
The wap version and port number are fixed on my phone. I have found that the port number is more inportant than the wap version.
I hope this helps.
thanks for the settings but I am still unable to send MMS --I set the WAP as the gateway #is that the correct place to enter it

[q] WP7 How to set your APN? And how to fix wifi

Hey,
I just installed WP7, it's all running very smooth but my Wifi doesn't find any networks and I don't know how to set my APN settings.
I read other posts saying go to settins->mobile network and then edit apn. But I only see Add apn which asks for a username and a password?
Help would be appreciated.

Are you T mobile? All I did was put the carriers name. I have T mobile so i put "T-Mobile US" and left the rest blank. Worked for me.
apn
apn: epc.tmobile.com
user name: blank
password: blank
works for me (tmous) been using it for a couple hours. had one random reboot, but all good after that
I had the same problem, I use HI although he suggest i'm on KPN but you have insert in the APN section: portalmmm.nl
Wifi doesn't see any networks at all? Odd.
Wifi's working well enough for me. I did notice some pretty weird stuff, though:
It seems to be impossible to find out your wifi MAC address from within WP7 - I had to browse through my router's logs for it.
Once I found it, though, I soon realized that it was actually useless to know in the first place, since the MAC address seems to change every boot with this ROM (forget about restricting access to your network based on MAC).
While modifying router settings to get the phone to connect, WP7 also froze on me a few times.
WP7 will not connect at all with networks with a hidden SSID.
It would seem there's still some room for improvement on the wifi front.
I've the same problem with Wifi since i flash the OS with a SD cards !If i remove this one, all works fine!
wifi workig great here with conectify as AP. mac is changed on every restart also.
My wifi works and the phone shows a 3g, H etc signal, but I cant sent mms
Prepaid T-Mobile service
I believe the problem with the settings are not for the regular T-Mobile service, but for the Prepaid T-Mobile service (SimpleMobile), there is no place configure the APN with all the necessary settings like: Proxy, Port, MMSC, MMS proxy, MCC, MNC, etc.
If anyone finds a way to setup this values on HD2WP7 please post here.
Thank you in advance
Load the attached connection setup xap and run it, it will automatically apply your carrier settings for 3G and mms. Worked perfect for me (TMoUSA)
How do I load this file? I already tried it from the phone, but it doesn't work.
Does anyone know how I could sync to outlook with my hd2 wp7
When go to settings > celuar, click on automatic, then press manual. When you have done that you see a button sais APN. Click on it and put this in (Vodafone)
APN: live.vodafone.com
user: vodafone
pass: vodafone
All done, now It works (for me anyway). Wifi sucks on some SD cards, don't know wich ones.
Also there is somwhere here a APN list for alot of country's and providers. Search google XDA APN settings or so.
Thing this would work for getting ATT 3G and MMS working?
Yes, as long you as you put youre own providers APN settings It should.
I can't configure the apn settings, and the HTC Connection Setup show me this message: "the carrier doesn't exist in database. Please contact your carrier for connection setting and go to Setting>Cellular>edit APN for further configuration"...
Is there a way add my carrier the the database of the connection setup?
Any luck with the WIFI issue?
I've tried the above mentioned solution by removing the SD C & reboot again but i didn't work for me.

Motorola MC65 APN issue

Hi guys,
though someone here on XDA could help me out with a WM6.5 issue i'm having.
At my work we are using some Motorola MC65 rugged handhelds for our couriers. We are currently using WM6 devices fine. I can't get them to connect to the private APN our company uses. The error I get is "Cannot connect for unknown reason"
I had this error once before with WM6 but i fixed that by turning off CHAP authentication and setting up our Radius accounts to use PAP instead. However I can't find anyway to change the authentication settings for the APN.
I have googled it extensively and some people say to do the following:
Windows Mobile 6.5 Start > Settings> Connections> GPRS > New.
Description *Company*
Connect To: The Internet
Access Point: *APN name*
Username: *username*
Password: *password*
Authentication: CHAP
Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0
Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0
IP Address 0.0.0.0
I dont have a CHAP option on mine :S
The version of WM6.5 is 6.5 Professional CE OS 5.2.23121 (Build 23121.5.3.6)
Are there differences in WM6.5 versions?
I'm fairly confident I can get this APN working if I can turn off CHAP, so any help on doing that would be appriciated.
Regards, Daniel
After reading the sticky again, I think this is in the wrong area.
I can't figure out how to move it, so can if one of the Mods can it would be much appreciated

Hi Daniel
i had to do the same the same, what i did is:
Go to: Settings/Conections/Conections
1. My ISP / Add a new modem connection
2. Enter the name for the conection
3. Select Celulat Line (GPRS) be aware that there is other option "Leular line" but you need the option (GPRS) if this not appears is becasuse you have to put the SIM Card and restart the device
4. Next
5. put the APN Name
6.Next
7. i didnĀ“t put any data in the user name or passwors or domain just clic finish
8.clic the new conection created and selec conect and thats it
Ans for your other question the answer is YES depending the Build of you WM6.5 there are differences and some time is complicated get stable applications for that reasson.

[Q] Help with APN profile - need to uncover hidden password & proxy info

Hi Folks,
I need to somehow uncover the details of the APN settings on my USB internet dongle and recreate them on my phone. If anyone could help me with this I would really, really appreciate it.
Some background:
I am currently working in Mali, West Africa and I have been having problems getting skype, google talk and tethering to work on my stock android nexus 4. After searching around on the forums I discovered that the problem relates to my APN profile on my phone, which is currently set to a WAP connection. These settings were dected automatically when I first connected to the network.
I know that my carrier (Orange Mali) supports the more advanced internet protocols (called HTTP, Web 2.0?) because I also have a USB internet dongle with the SAME internet service. Skype and google talk work great and I'm assuming if I could replicate these settings I could tether as well. I've confirmed that the dongle does indeed have a different APN profile from my phone.
Here is what I've tried so far:
Called the carrier - they don't even know what an APN profile is
Opened up the software for the USB dongle, searched endlessly for details of the APN profile. I can only see the username (iew) and the password, which is **** out. There are no other details (I believe I need the numbers for the proxy, port, MCC & MNC)
I've also searched various APN databases to see if they have the right settings for Orange Mali. No luck.
I've gone into the windows internet options - connections - and looked at the settings of the DUN profile for the USB dongle. Again the password is *** out and I can't see the other details.
Can I uncover these settings in terminal or my registry? Any help at all would be appreciated.

No need to check on laptop.
Orange WAP only for phone browsing. Orange internet is for hotspot, tethering:
Then input this information for the APN settings of Orange:
Name = Orange Internet
APN = orangeinternet (case sensitive)
Proxy = Ignore,
Port = Ignore,
Username = Ignore,
Password = Ignore,
Server = Ignore,
MMSC = Ignore,
MMS proxy = Ignore,
MMS port = Ignore,
MCC = 234
MNC = 33
APN type = default
Maybe program named "Asterix password viewer could help you?!
I am also in Bamako. Figured out what you are looking for.
The APN = internet
if you got an iphone and would also edit the apn let me know.
