Hi guys,
though someone here on XDA could help me out with a WM6.5 issue i'm having.
At my work we are using some Motorola MC65 rugged handhelds for our couriers. We are currently using WM6 devices fine. I can't get them to connect to the private APN our company uses. The error I get is "Cannot connect for unknown reason"
I had this error once before with WM6 but i fixed that by turning off CHAP authentication and setting up our Radius accounts to use PAP instead. However I can't find anyway to change the authentication settings for the APN.
I have googled it extensively and some people say to do the following:
Windows Mobile 6.5 Start > Settings> Connections> GPRS > New.
Description *Company*
Connect To: The Internet
Access Point: *APN name*
Username: *username*
Password: *password*
Authentication: CHAP
Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0
Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0
IP Address 0.0.0.0
I dont have a CHAP option on mine :S
The version of WM6.5 is 6.5 Professional CE OS 5.2.23121 (Build 23121.5.3.6)
Are there differences in WM6.5 versions?
I'm fairly confident I can get this APN working if I can turn off CHAP, so any help on doing that would be appriciated.
Regards, Daniel
After reading the sticky again, I think this is in the wrong area.
I can't figure out how to move it, so can if one of the Mods can it would be much appreciated

Hi Daniel
i had to do the same the same, what i did is:
Go to: Settings/Conections/Conections
1. My ISP / Add a new modem connection
2. Enter the name for the conection
3. Select Celulat Line (GPRS) be aware that there is other option "Leular line" but you need the option (GPRS) if this not appears is becasuse you have to put the SIM Card and restart the device
4. Next
5. put the APN Name
6.Next
7. i didn´t put any data in the user name or passwors or domain just clic finish
8.clic the new conection created and selec conect and thats it
Ans for your other question the answer is YES depending the Build of you WM6.5 there are differences and some time is complicated get stable applications for that reasson.

Just installed the xda-developrs SE ROM
Seems to make the XDA run like a deamon, well impressed so far.
Just as everybody else though. The autoconfiguration doesn't work. So can't get the o2 wap settings up.

but something seems to be missing. Could somebody please supply the complete settings.
WAP...
Ehm, as far as WAP goes...
We did not include the EZWAP program in our install. So WAP is unlikely to work. WAP wasn't in Othman's Qtek ROM (it has no autoconfig settings and no WAP), and we didn't create mkrom to take input from multiple ROMs. We figured serious users would want to the new EZWAP which also does MMS (which isn't included by O2), and we never really used WAP or MMS ourselves. So I guess we never tested any WAP settings...
If you want you can have a look at the registry settings we insert for each provider in the 'provider' directory of the mkrom kit. If you think some settings are missing, you could do a registry dump (using the 'System Snapshot' we put in the ROM) before and after fixing the problem, and send us the differences. We can them insert them in next versions of the Special Edition ROM.

Hi,
Thanks for the above info. It worked a treat. However I was asked for a Username, Password and Domain login when I connected to GPRS. So for those of you who do know it, here we go:

Password: password
Domain: leave this blank.
Check the box to save the password.

I am on O2 payg, using the xda, I have tried the gprs settings and it says the number isnt responding, when I use the gsm settings that are preset when doing auto config, I get charged even though I am on 300 free wap minutes, I dont think I am a stupid person but I have a feeling of having been here before when I previously had an O2 payg, any help would be appreciated. I am getting the free sms messages so I know the account is activated for the freebies. The "G" sysmbol comes on when i switch on the xda and stays there for about 10 seconds.
Hi. I'm new here so excuse me if I seem simple! I have unlocked my XDA using xdaunlock and now have same problem with GPRS dropping out after approx 10 seconds. It worked before, so has unlocking changed any settings? or has something else happened. The xda has the latest uk rom upgrade with 4.21 radio. Any help please as I dont know what to do! Thanks.
Please has anybody actually got a working setup for GPRS on O2 PAYG on the XDA, I have spent weeks on this and got nowhere. I have followed instructions to the letter from different websites and still no joy, I can connect to wap over gsm but gprs settings still elude me, anybody got a full description of settings please, and how to enter them. Thanks in advance.
Is there nobody on this forum using O2 PAYG sim and using wap over gprs? I cannot seem to find anybody with the settings, I wonder why, it seems like the holy grail just to get on line using the system that is available to me in theory? Help would be greatly appreciated.
Nobody in UK on O2 pay as you go :?: :?: :?:
Update on my problems with GPRS on O2 payg. I have tried every setting on this forum plus others, I always get error, not answering or some such, I have decided to stick to gsm connection using shortcode 951000 and exwap 2.5. if anybody can give me step by step, confirmed working settings, I would apprectiate it. This will be my last post on the subject, I am beginning to take up too much storage on the forum server with this. A resolution to the problem would be great as I can then save my connection settings to flash ram and not worry about it again.
cruisin-thru I am not on O2 so can offer limited help.
EzWAP2.5 could be yr problem.
I sometime find difficulty using WAP after a session mms'ing with EzWAP2.5 . A solf reset is then required before I can connect to WAP via gprs.
Here is my sugestion:
1.uninstall EzWAP2.5 completely
2.try to get connected to gprs or gsm WAP
3.try PIE, it works for WAP , but depending on yr
telco whether on gprs or gsm
4.if all the above is working then install EzWAP2.1
and see if it works
5.then EzWAP2.5 and see if it screw up everthing,
if not try mms.
Hope this helps, i am working blind here
OK, searched high and low and think this is the best thread to post this in.
Have just upgraded my XDA with the developers rom v1.2. Everything great for a while (3 days) Now it can not connect to gprs or gsm. I get the "There is no answer at the number dialed.
I am with O2 UK and have treble checked the settings and tried various alternatives however nothing works.
One thing I have noticed is that the autoconfig dropdown box says Austria One.....when I change that to O2 - UK and click OK to autoconfigure, it doesn't, it just comes back to Austria - One.
Phone works and SMS is fine, just GPRS/GSM
Do I need to re-flash or contact my provider....or please tell me there's a simple "fix"
Thanks
Ive got this reply through email from o2 im waiting now for password and username I will post soon as I get it
Go to Start > Settings > Connections > Connections, and then select the top modify option. Within this, there should be four connection types.... Select the GPRS WAP connection and modify the settings. You need to change anything that says o2wap to payandgo, and change the APN from WAP.o2.CO.UK to PAYANDGO.O2.CO.UK. Once you have amended these settings, tap and hold on this connection type and make it your default. You might want to rename this
Then, go into the EZwap application, and select tools and then options, and there should be a series of tabs. Select the general tab and make sure the connection in the drop down list, is the one you have just amended.

although this number may not be free when used with O2 online
Hi, make sure first that it's your GPRS WAP connection that Ezwap is using, and set it to 'auto connect' in 'Options'
under the 'connection' tab set connection type to 'gateway' and put in your networks WAP IP address (o2 IRL's is 192.168.090.074). Click on 'connectionless gateway'
Untick 'wtls' secured connection.
Click on the 'MMS' settings tab next.
Put in your networks MMS 'Message Server' or MMS homepage. (O2 IRL's is http://mmsc.mms.o2.ie:8002)
All the other settings can be setup as you like.
1) Enable MMS on my account. Had to get 'pally' with a tech guy to do this as XDA is not supported; I suppose pretending I had a 7650 would have worked too.
2) Install EZWAP2.5
3) EZWAP Settings for O2UK:
General
"Connection"
- O2 WAP GPRS
- Connect automatically Y
- Rest on this tab default
Connection
"Connection Type"
- Gateway
- Address 193.113.200.195
- Port 9201
- Connectionless Gateway N
- WTLS secured connection N
- Rest on this tab default
Push
"Push"
- Enable push Y
- Connection type Address: blank
- Port 2901
- Connectionless Push gateway Y
- WTLS secured N
History/Cache & Identification - default
MMS
"MMS Settings"
-Message Server: http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
-Sender Address Type: Phone Number
-Sender Address: My phone number
MMS Options - delivery recepit and read receipt Y
It's not 100% reliable, which I knew would be the case, but it's not too bad. Get now when the message arrives doesn't work, but I just open the MMS inbox and click the message to get it.

I have been trying , unsucessfully, to configure my Siemens SX56 to connect to the internet and send e-mail after I upgraded to the Special Rom. It connects but doesn't load the pages and it tells me it cannot connect with current settings. I do not want to wipe clean my device and start over w/o the Special Rom because it has so many cool apps and after my contract expires I am on my way to T-Mobile, so unlocking is key! I have looked at this forum and there is no settings for ATTWS in US. Only Rogers (Canada) Can someone please help this newbie!
Thanks in advance for answering
AT&T WAP Settings
I figured it out since no one seemed to know. If anyone needs any settings for AT&T (US) here they are:
HTTP: localhost Port: 9090
WAP: 10.250.250.250 Port: 9201
Socks: 127.0.0.1 Port: 1080
Type is Socks 4
I created a new connnection called "MY connection Two" since the regular "GPRS connection" tab did not have a tab for proxy settings.

Sorry, I was away for a bit and would have answered if I had seen your request. The other parts I would add to your listed config are that the Access Point Name (APN) is:
Proxy
If you select Cellular Line (GPRS) as the transport, the dialing info will be filled in correctly by itself, resulting in something like "~0GPRS!Proxy" (not sure if that's exact, my XDA isn't right here. If for some reason you need to manually set a GPRS dial sting for ATTWS I believe it is:
*99*#
As opposed to to T-Mobile which is *99***2#
Thanks for answering Mad Max!!
Now if I can only get my Internet Explorer to work I would be all set!!!
Hi,
I'm an att sx56 user, flashed to t-mobile's 40016 for 2003. Everything works real nice but I can't seem to get the att gprs settings correct. Here's what I have,
For Modem Settings:
----------------------
Name: Myatt
Cellular Line(GPRS)
APN: *99*# ( i've also tried +0 ~GPRS!proxy)
username/password/domain all blank
TCP/IP: Use server specified IP address
Server: Use server assigned address
VPN Empty:
Proxy Settings:
-----------------
Localhost 9090
10.250.250.250 9201
127.0.0.1 1080
Socks4
Do you know if I'm missing anything or what I've got set wrong here?
Thanks!

The APN should just be "proxy" alone. All the other junk (+0~GPRS!) is stuff the system fills in when it displays the dialing status, but shouldn't be included in your entry in the APN field. You shouldn't need to enter the *99*# string anywhere either unless you need to establish your own dialing config for some reason.
Also, the fact that you're entering proxy configs in WM2003 implies that you're setting up you connection under the "work settings" section as opposed to the "internet settings", which is fine, just wanted to make sure that's what you intended. Under 2003, unless you need to set proxy settings for your specific needs, then setting the APN name to "proxy" and selecting "Cellular Line (GPRS)" as the modem is pretty much all you need to do.
I have done what you both have said and still NO LUCK! AHH ok here is all of my specs:
Siemens SX56:
Windows Pocket PC Version 3.0.12039
ROM Version 3.17.03 ENG
ROM DATE 5/15/03
Radio Version A.20.10
Protocol Version 324e4
Confirming you're using the XDA-Dev SP ROM 1.2 if so leave try leaving your "proxy" settings blank and see if that helps.
HTH
no tilde stuff
I have been trying to do this stuff for a while now....
I am having the "page cannot be found" problem.
ppcpe 2003
ROM version : 4.00.05 ENG
Radio version: A.20.10
protocol version: 324e4
I set up a new connection called My GPRS.
I have all the right proxy settings (I've been reading forums on this for weeks now) I put "proxy" in as my APN name. On the modem tab, i have
Name: My Connection 1
Number: proxy
I don't see the ~GPRSyadayada....just proxy.
I have the Network Settings using My GPRS connection.
Here's the cooky part...I have a Yahoo chat software package that works great! I can send and receive like it's going out of style. But I cannot get Either internet explorer OR ftxPBrowser to connect to any pages.
What's up here?
Hey all,
I'm trying to get GPRS working on my XDA II (Qtek rom).
I made a new (modem) connection.
name: Orange world
modem: Cellular Line (GPRS)
Access point name: internet (as provided by Orange NL)
No username, password or domain
No ip
Pri Dns: 10.250.255.188
Sec Dns: 10.250.255.188 (as provided by Orange NL)
Finish
Press the antenna and tap on : connect to GPRS.
It connects and I get the same arrows when active syncing.
But when I open an Internet page or try to logon MSN it wont work...
Anyone an idea?
cheers
Are you sure you spelled 'internet' no capitals at the acces point name?
You could try to choose server assigned Ip address.
Another thing you could check is: settings> connections > Gprs setting> PAP authentication and class 10.
Yes I spelled internet, lowercase
Rudegar told me to only use the access point and not the DNS servers.
And it works!
Thanks
The GPRS Settings:
do they need to be: PAP or CHAP authentication?
do they need to be: Class 8 or Class 10
and whats the difference between them?
i've read class 8 everywhere
Those of you who are using 3G on your Uni, can you please check your settings and let me know what do I need to do in order to set up my 3G connectivity please!
I already have the following:
APN
IP Address
2 DSNs
however when I enter this information it doesn't seem to connect perhaps I'm doing something wrong.
I do have a data plan (3G) so that is not an issue which I am currently using with my iphone without any problems.
Thank you very much for your help!
Over 30 ppl read this post and none of you on 3G?
Please your help is greatly appreciated
Re 3G setting for a Uni,
Hi serjay,
Sorry for the wait I have only just come across your message. Here are the setting you need. I hope they work for you?
You can input all the settings, but I can't seem to be able to access the 3 portal.
In settings, connections tab, connections
advanced tab, select networks
new, and input the relevant info from here:
Data accounts: Create one called 3 GPRS.
APN: three.co.uk
Username:
Password:
Login request: Off
Allow calls: Automatic
IP address:
DNS address:
Authentication: Normal
Data compression: Off
Header compression: Off
MMS settings can be entered via outlook menu
gateway: http://mms.um.three.co.uk:10021/mmsc
proxy: 217.171.192.2
port: 8799
(account is the 3UK avvount above)
Not sure if u need to input the Video gateway.
If anyone know how to actually open the portal, plz help,
I think the problem is that the page detects what device you are using, and an exec is not on their list
secondly - use the http://mobile.three.co.uk/hb/7600/HutchKey as access to the portal - just make it your homepage. this one is for nokia, it works with me.
For those who won´t get the 3Zone to work, try the following:
Using a registry editor, find the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent
then edit the default value to "Nokia6680"
reset
and then surf to the 3Zone Homepage for a nokia 6680 (ask someone who has one to find the url out)
3 Reads the "User Agent" String of the browser yourphone uses to find out which phone you have.
With the trick above you configure the Pocket Internet Explorer of your universal to convince three it is indeed a nokia6680.
So normally you only get phones to work which three has in it´s program.
Regards
Michael.

Please if you can provide further direction; hopefully I’ve done something wrong…
Hi serjay,
Sorry for the wait I have been on short break to Kent so I have not managed to come back to you.
All I can think of when I did it on mine was I left Username and Password blank and the IP adress as well.
I am sorry I can not help you any further because I use a Nokia N95 as my mane phone now and not the PDA.
thank you Michael for your help thus far, I guess I'll keep on trying.
Thank you..

Well, you have to notice the Uni is 4 years older than Iphone, so.... it´s no too bad. Remember when Uni came out no other device can do all that Uni!!
Uni it´s like the grandpa of all the new devices, so we have it some respect as even some of the today devices are not as good as UNI
hi all i have a orange SPV200 with the following
ROM version: 5.60.00 WWE
ROM date: 03/02/05
Radio version: 1.06.02

what im trying to find out is how do i set it up to surf the net. it links fine when its connected to the pc and all other functions seem to work fine and as they should but just can not get it to work.
p.s
this phone is now unlocked and has a vodafone sim in it
any advice would be great (have spent 2 days on here trying to find the answer)
thanks in advance
what are you trying to use for going online, wlan, bluetooth shared connections, activesync shared, or gprs, and what country are you from?
right im from the uk
and im not entirely sure which way to use it, i want to be able to access the net whilst on the move, so i think i need to use the gprs but im not sure on this, i know i can access the net on my standard nokia N95 and would like to use the blue angel in the same way.
thanks
to use it on the move, the only possible option is gprs, which is unfortunately not free in contrast to all the other attrative options i gave you, but maybe your plan covers it, in germany it is rather expensive, so i wouldn't use it, and so i can only offer limited help there, but i give it a try:
1. go to Start -> Settings -> Connections -> GPRS Settings and make sure the right protocol is set. on the first page, mine says CHAP on the second one Class 10.
2. leave the GPRS Settings and enter the Connections app, so Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Connections as stupid as it sounds, in there, go to My ISP and make a new GPRS connection.
unfortunately, in my experience, if i enter anything there, my phone constantly trys to connect to gprs, even if i set nothing at all, but i looked up the uk vodafone gprs settings for you:

That's what it said on: http://www.filesaveas.com/gprs.html
I hope you find a way to enter this information there somehow, and then you should be ready to go.
i don't know how long your battery lasts, and how common free public hotspots are in your area, but as gprs is pretty slow, i would also give wlan a try and leave it activated with the option to connect to any unencrypted network, 1. it's free, 2. it's faster
I found this NetWorkWizard in Swampy's ext rom (if i'm not wrong ). I hope it helps you. Just check if it's contains your operators setting
yess usinf networkwizard.cab select your provider and wait a minute it configure you GPRS setting automatic. than soft reset
thnx
