Broken G1, looking for advice or a generous member. - G1 General

Hello everyone,
I had a G1, until an incident walking my dog ending in it being tossed into a storm drain. I fished it out, dried it in rice for 5 days, and started it up. It sort of worked at first with some key sticking. So I took the unit apart in order to try and clean it up. Now it doesn't turn on, which I believe is because I tweaked one of the wires pretty hard accidently while putting it back together.
Since then I have been using my Father-in-Law's Treo Pro. Which is killing me. The phone itself is very nice, but win-mo is killing me.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure I have a working LCD and digitizer, but not enough money to dump into another phone. Because of this, I believe I have 2 options, sell what I have on eBay, I've been watching broken G1's on eBay, and even water damaged units are going for $120, or get a hold of a phone with a broken lcd and try to swap it out.
If I go the eBay route, is there a way to remove my Google account link from my phone while the phone will not start? If someone managed to get it working, I don't want them to have access to all my stuff.
To go the other route, as I said, I don't have the money to dump $120 on another G1 to use for parts. So if any of you readers have a broken, or working G1 sitting around, and would be kind enough to want to send it to a broken-hearted G1 lover, that would be the most awesome thing ever.
Thanks for taking the time to read.

T-Mobile wing - Broken LCD screen

I some how managed to break my phone's LCD screen. Not sure how it happened... I swear. I called T-Mobile hoping for a replacement and as expected they courteously asked me go F#%K myself. It's almost a new phone so I'm not willing to give up on it.
So now, I'm looking for a way to fix it. First, I want to know where I can find a compatible LCD screen for a descent price. The once I've come across so far are more than $100. And second, instructions on how to replace the screen.
Any help with this will be truly appreciated.
Thanks!
Anyone ever figure out the replacement process? My daughter broke hers yesterday.
Thanks
when you order a screen..it should come with tools.
you use those to remove the housing..
then you basically unplug the old LCD touch display and plug in the new one..
i think.
I saw the higher priced lcd's on ebay that included tools & instructions. I basically have the tools I need. I would just like to have the instructions and an lcd. Wny are things like this so hard to find nowadays.

I have the instruction on how to do replacement for LCD (t-mobile wing) only to take out screws and if your not aware of every detailed of what your doing your probably end up killing your WING
Go on ebay and look for a ebay seller by the name of lcd4pda. I talked to him in email about the lcd screen, he has the tmobile wing lcd in stock with tools and instructions. 65.00 to 85 bux to get one and it comes with the digitaltizer on it which my wing has a hole in the digitalizer and i have to order a new lcd, hes my best bet.
New LCD, still not working
I dropped my Wing a week ago and it seemed fine. Put it in my pocket and then took it out a couple hours later and the screen had about 4 cracks in it. I assumed it was because I had dropped it earlier. The screen was white except for some blue areas where the cracking was most severe.
I ordered a brand new replacement LCD screen on ebay and just finished installing it. To my utter dismay the screen is still completely white!! It seems to respond to my touch (it goes brighter when I touch it), and it turns on and off w/ the power switch, but there is nothing but white on the screen.
Is it possible I got the connection loose when I installed it? Or is it likely there's something else wrong with my phone? Thanks in advance for any help.
It's probably a bad connection. Did you ever think you'd have to go through so much disassembly to replace the screen? Just so everyone knows, lcd4pda is legit.
Edit: Shipping was extremely high ($16.99). The location on eBay is shown as Canada but, it comes from Virginia. via First Class. I checked shipping to my location on the USPS site. It only cost $1.98. The package weight is 6oz.
Tell me about it! I had to practically start taking photographs to remember where all of the pieces and screws went. I dropped one of the screws on the ground and it took me 10 minutes to find . I'll disassemble again later tonight and refit all of the connections to see if that makes a difference. I sure hope so.
For those replacing their screens, the service manual:
http://www.modaco.com/content/Pocke...58716/HTC-Service-Manuals-Dismantling-Guides/
has a good set of instructions on how to disassemble the Wing. The hardest part is when you have to use a credit card or something similar to unseat the keyboard. You actually have to insert the card or other plastic tool between the edge of the keyboard and the edge of the phone. The pictures confused me because it seemed like I was supposed to insert the card flat into the side of the phone but really, if your phone is sitting on top of the table, you actually insert the card DOWN into this small space.
Also, for those that are new to removing the connections that are in the phone (like I was), there is usually some tape that you have to first remove before you can unhook the connection.
It worked! The connection from the screen to the phone, the one underneath the RF board, wasn't pushed in quite far enough. I reseated it and voila! I now have a working phone again that can not only receive calls but can make them now!
Now that I know it works, I can also recommend seller superpc168 on ebay. $49.75 for the screen and I spent $15 for 2-day UPS shipping.
Thanks cracula. Just ordered a screen on ebay. Hopefully I should be able to fix my phone.
still have white screen.
does anyone know what i can do to fix that. i tried reseating everything but it seems to still have the white screen. any help will be appreciated.
Replacement Wing Lcd
I got a Replacement LCD for my WING for $55 at WWW.HTCLCD.COM
..........
The weirdest thing!
I found the manual through various places including here on the site. With the manual every thing went fine. EXCEPT THAT NOW THE MAJORITY OF THE KEYBOARD BUTTONS AREN'T WORKING. It must be a faulty connection on my part of course. I'm gonna give it another shot tonight and see if it works a gain. I found the screen on the fonlogix site(blackberry8100parts.com).
Broken lcd tmobile wing
i just had my wing lcd screen fixed but by someone who doesn't work for tmobile he fixes phones and installs iphone programs on them also.. He charged me $100 to fix my lcd screen, tmobile wanted between $150 to $250 to fix it i told tmobile screw it i'll find somwhere and i did.. If you can find an outside source to fix your phone do so..
i broke my screen on my tmobile wing a while back.....was taking a 7 hour drive and the phone was sitting on the passenger seat in the sun for a few hours, later on that evening i picked it up and noticed i had a nice big crack on the screen from top to bottom somehow
called tmobile, they told me i had been paying the insurance they gave me the phone # to the insurance people, called them....paid a $100 deductible and got a brand new replacement wing
never thought i'd use the insurance, glad it came handy!
if its under warrenty dont tell them its broken say its a bloack screen theyll send you a new one and they will charge you once you send it back 100 dlrs for out of warrenty thats not bad for another phone wing

Screen Replacement Services
Another option, especially for those not comfortable with tearing apart small electronics, is to have the phone repaired by a professional. I actually own a small company called Jet City Devices that can replace the screen on your T-Mobile Wing. The cost is a lot lower than a new phone and you'll have your phone back - with all of the data in tact - in under a week.
Just an option for those that don't want to spend their time trying to figure out how to fix their Wing themselves.

Replaced housing, LCD shat itself.

I did everything so PERFECTLY to change my housing, organizing everything in each step so I can do it efficiently.
Well I put it back together, all excited to turn it back on ...it vibrates but does not display anything. FML
I disassembled the WHOLE THING AGAIN! Put it back together... still nothing.
**** it.
I guess I'll be using my Dash again for a while :/
Most common is the flex cables that run from the lcd to the keyboard area. I bet one is torn or cut. I have a cut one to prove it happens I have heard of others having the same issue. They are just very delicate
I thought that could be the case, but I have examined them multiple times, they're flawless. Maybe it's just a minuscule cut that I'm not seeing, but **** I'm gunna get so annoyed using my Dash.
Every time I went back to my old Dash I was reminded of the good old days of rebooting daily. Yet I still keep my eyes open for a Dash 3G on CL for a good deal to become my new "spare"- when I find one I can finally retire my old beat up Dash for good
I'm already dreading using Windows Mobile again hahahah
sorry to hear that, I hate when things like that happen... hopefully I will learn from this and I hope I do a better job on my own (no offense to you though, haha)
try something please as i'm curious of your problem. start the phone up and use the most powerful flashlight you have and see if the lcd is working or not. i'm curious if it is the backlight, lcd, or flexicable.

Buddy has a big flaw.

Ok so my friend has an HD2. He was at work and some prick dumped a bucket of water on him. So I got looking at his phone and it seems that the only thing wrong is that the screen will not come on.
I can get the bottom lights to come on and the volume is somewhat working. But the screen will not light up at all. My question is... is there a way to buy a replaceable screen? He bought it off eBay so I'm guessing that the insurance was unavailable for him. Or would T-Mobile US look at his phone and troubleshoot it?
Thanks in advance for any information.

best thing he could of done is to immediately remove the battery and let the phone dry out for a few days. I would do that now anyways. Then put the battery back in, let it charge, then try to turn it on. If its really just the screen, yes they are replaceable, but make sure he gets the lcd/digitizer combo, those things are almost impossible to replace separately.

how do you know the screen is the problem? could be one of the many chips on the main circuit board could be fried. In my humble opinion, take the battery out and let it sit for about a week in a nice dry area. try it after a week or so and if it still don't work, sell it for parts on ebay.
I think you'd be wasting your money, especially if you have never tried taking one apart before. I've fixed a few phones before but the thought of opening up my HD2 makes me cringe!
hey thanks for the response we will give that a go. and hopefully that works but ill start looking up prices on the combo now. thanks again
The best thing yoiu can do for a wet phone, like previously stated is take the battery out, and stick it in a tub of rice for atleast a few days. this will draw moisture out of the phone.
I must have been lucky. I dropped mine in the toilete 1 drunken night. it came out still on and working, then the volume started adjusting itself and the screen was going funny. 24 hoiurs in rice and it was fine except for a dodgy volume button which sorted itself within another day.
If its still not working correctly, you mayb have to send it into htc for repair and get the idiot who poured a bucket of water to pay for the repair.

unresponsive touch screen

So my girlfriend drooped my phone and broke it on me. Oh my beloved atrix what ever will I do without you. Everything about the phone is working just fine so I am curious if its just the touch panel that ia broken. I touch the screen and nothing happens I have fully charged it and turned it on and off several times. Do you guys think if I replace the touch panel that there is a chance it will work again. I didn't get insurance on it because I was very careful with it and took care of it like it was my child lol.
First of all I would like to point out that it is ok to admit that you dropped it, and not your gf.
Secondly I would suggest tearing it down and checking the connections. I have seen where the digitizer connector will be loose and wont be responsive on other phones. I have never taken apart the atrix, so I dont know if that is a unlikely thing for it or not.
In the unlikely event that it really was your gf who dropped it, you could always guilt her in to getting you a new phone
Lol I swear it was her we were at the bar last night and she was trying to show somone the gi Joe psa's. Ill try and tear it down have to find a walk through I guess. The real kick in the teeth is I just bought a e book and it was really starting to get good . As far as guilting her, her parent were with us and gave me a kindle fire because they felt bad but the things useless until they get android running well enough on it.
there is a teardown site, i am too lazy to look it up, I am supposed to be studying business law right now ... dont tell my wife im on xda
I tried to replace my digitizer once and I wouldn't recommend trying to fix it yourself.
There are several youtube videos of the teardown and they are elaborate enough but some parts are really tricky and it's not as easy as it might look. Took me a few hours and the result was far from perfect...
Took the mobo out and checked all plugs everything seems fine. Replaced and still no response I will give the digitizer a try hopefully it works. Ordering it tonight and post my results when it comes in and i install it. I'm supprised you had problems putting it back together only problem i had was my God damn shaky hands lol. I am assuming it fell just right and damaged the chip on the digitizer itself. If it ends up working I know for sure that I will be buying a very buff case! The internals on these things are so fragile!

MyTouch 3G slide screen not working

Hey guys, I have had this phone since August of 2010 and personally its really nostalgic, in all reality I prefer it over my Galaxy S, Especially for the Slideout keyboard and seems to have better ROM support :/ But around November 2011 the screen would spaz out not respond and just not turn on. Sometimes it would but so dark it was nearly impossible to see it. I'm not sure if the screen is dead I haven't used it since November when I got my Galaxy S. If the screen is dead, is there any type of repair service? or a way to buy a top half for the screen and replace it?
Look on Ebay, there are lots of these phones for cheap.

Sounds like a loose connection on the cable for the screen. I had the same problem with mine. I'm still using this phone now. Free fix if you can figure out how to take the phone apart & basically unplug & re-plug. Be super careful though! And of course it could be a different problem.
You can buy a new one very cheap in amazon or ebay i dont think it worth to repair
Not sure it's the right place to post this, I replaced the digitizer in my old MT3GS (cracked in my pocket), and ever since, Ive have the screen-spazzing issue as well - wasn't my first time replacing a screen, either. For me, the solution _every time_ has been hit the power button to lock the screen, hit it again to get back to what I was doing... Never had to totally power down to fix the spaz :\
If it'd interest you at all, I'd be willing to send you the phone, charger brick, (and the metal case if I can find the damn thing) for $50+ship - thats what I paid for the new digitizer... If you have better troubleshooting skills than I do, good on you, because I've torn this one down and put back together again at least 2 or 3 times since replacing the digitizer, and can't find a single loose connection - maybe you'll have better luck than me?
Thanks

I called a repair shop I found on craigslist and they mentioned it's more than likely the flex cable, not the lcd screen or glass digitizer. These phones' cables go through lots of wear due to the sliding mechanism. They gave me a 70 dollar estimate, so I just don't slide my phone out anymore to prevent the screen from spazzing out or blacking out for good (it happened to a friend of mine's MTS3g). I've also seen the cable for sale online on ebay or repairsuniverse but I'd rather wait for my full upgrade than invest in it AND risk not fixing it.
I really wanna use this phone again, the slide mechanism is so worn on it you can feel it its kinda tough to do its not springy like it was outta the box, also on ebay these phones still run close to 200 dollars, I would take it apart, as its out of warranty anyways, but I don't have the proper tools to do so, like the mini philips head and the tiny socket wrench. And I hear it is most likely the flex cable but as I said I can't access it.
