Internet connection from pc to vogue - Touch CDMA General

Today I had my vogue plugged into my laptop running windows 7 to transfer some files and decided to open opera mobile and goto testmy.net to do some speed tests. I then realized that my phone was using my laptops internet connection to browse the web when testmy.net reported a different ip address and reported my internet provider as comcast. I didn't do any tweaking at all except for turning internet sharing on in Windows 7 and when I tried to do this a couple months ago on Vista when I didn't have a data plan I couldn't get it to work and gave up on it. I know some people were trying to figure out how to get it to work like I was and never really found a solution or at least I didn't so maybe this will help someone without a data plan that wants to connect to web on their vogue.

Internet Sharing problem

Here's my problem. I'm trying to run uTorrent and everything is slooooow. I've noticed my IP address on my laptop as 192.168.0.102 and my external is very different. I think that is my problem, NAT or something. Is there any way to forward ports on the 8525 or to put myself into a DMZ like my home router?
I've searched and searched and maybe I'm just retarded, I suppose that could be the whole issue at hand. I also made sure that I'm logged into isp.cingular so that shouldn't be the issue at hand.
Hopefully someone can help me, thanks for the time.
Taylor.
1) Why would you want to run a torrent program over a mobile network. It would be really slow, especially compared to cable. Plus you're going to bog down the wireless network and probably end up getting your account suspended or end up with insane data charges for using so much data. I'm pretty sure it is against which ever provider's TOS you have that you can not use their network for that type of activity.
2) You have no control over port forwarding or anything of that nature. Your phone's data connection is behind your provider's "main" access point. They control the ports and how the internal addressing works.

It is..it specifically states the use of file sharing or P2P apps is not allowed... they dont even allow you to tether without a laptop connect plan..you think theyre gonna let you get away with running a torrent app for long before your account gets flagged?

Well just for the sake of information then I'll post what I tried and found out. I downloaded the 9/21/06 rom from the wiki and reflashed it so I could try Wireless Modem again instead of Internet Sharing and guess what...
Internet Sharing gives an internal IP of 192.168.0.102
Wireless Modem gives an internal IP that matches my external IP but still does not allow incoming connections.
So Internet Sharing does give the internal IP NOT my provider.
To respond about the tethering, I'm not getting the laptop connect plan because then I wouldn't be able to browse on my phone, hence negating the whole damn reason that I bought my 8525, so I can browse the internet while sitting in parking lots waiting on calls. My home cable connection costs what I pay a month for internet access on my phone you better believe I'll use it the same way.

PS A moderator is more than welcome to close this now as my original question has been answered by me. Thanks.

I have the same issue with the 192.168.0.102 and it sets default gateway to 192.168.0.1. This never happend with the other rom and it kills my local network because it's 192.168.0.0:255.255.255.0.
Also on the tether speed being slow! I am getting about 800-900 k, I don't call that slow and my plan is unlimited and is no longer available so I can't change anything or I loose it. I have downloaded many many gig and never flagged or cut off.
I would like to find out how to stay with the newer rom and internet sharing and just change what IP's it uses rather than change my whole network config.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Torrenting on the 8525
I just got my 8525 and I just started to try and torrent on the network. Is your unlimited data plan with AT&T\Cingular? Just curious as I was also concerned about the ramifications.

internet sharing htc 8525 question

I already pay 4 an unlimited internet plan through cingular. I downloaded the wmwifirouter to my phone. I was wondering if I used this apllication to share my internet would there be additional charges.
no the operator would not even know all net activity was not don on the phone itself

I would be careful if you are thinking about using it to connect you laptop. Even though you have an unlimited download regular web pages takes up significantly more data. Depending on how much you are downloading they could eventually suspend you account and/or up your rate. Casual use shouldn't be an issue.

vogue and connecting to internet through bluetooth?

im new to any form of htc or palm(any windows based phone). my blackberry i could do a bunch of stuff without having internet through various simulators and whatnot. i was interested in getting the touch because i believed it had wifi, but know i realized that it doesnt(still havent purchased it.)
so my questions are
will the phone be able to receive a internet signal through bluetooth? as in i connect my phone to my macbook, i should receive a connection.
if i connect it to the computer via usb will i be able to download applications just like if i had the internet plan?? i really do not need the phone to be able to have internet at all times, just for downloading apps. i mainly use smartphones for there planning and scheduling abilities.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
just some side info, switching from sprint is not an option, nor is getting a information plan, as im a broke college kid.
Not sure about the bluetooth, it should be possible though.
As for the USB yes, infact if you are downloading applications do this over your regular internet if you don't have unlimited wireless internet from your provider. Applications can be quite big and you can hit your download limit very easily this way.
thanks a bunch, i went and checked the phone out today and i liked it a bunch. once again, and to not start another new thread thats probably answered somewhere, is it possible to send ringtones to the phone through usb?

HTC announced the Touch 3g and Touch HD which look very similar to the Vogue. I'm not sure when these devices will be released but they have the features you seem to be looking for (WiFi). If you wait a little bit, you may, or may not be happier with the 3g or HD.
Just some information in case you never heard of these devices yet.
http://www.htc.com/www/default.aspx
EDIT: I am not sure about connecting a vogue to a mac, as it requires activesync to connect which is a Microsoft product. Most newer macs allow you to run windows xp, so it should be no problem. Also, when the phone is connected via USB, it will not use your regular DSL/Cable connection to access the internet. You will need to download the applications on your computer first, then transfer to the phone via activesync.
There's also the Mogul which is out now that has built in wifi. Prices are low and should be dropping as newer phones come out. Good for a broke college student.

Actually the phone can connect to the Internet via desktop DSL/Cable when they are USB linked.... but you'd never do that just to get apps on you phone. It's really only useful for syncing email to your phone when you don't have a data plan for the the phone.
Sprint HTC Touch internet thru bluetooth
So has anyone been able to figure out how to connect to the internet thru bluetooth to your PC/MAC? For example: If you are in an area that doesn't have cell coverage at all (Sprint or roaming) if you have an internet connection on your PC/MAC (DSL, Cable, etc.) can you connect to the computer thru bluetooth and access the internet on the Touch? It would be great for VOIP like Skype(out).
So I am not asking how to connect your computer to the internet thru your phone. Just the opposite, actually. Specifically asking for MAC.

Yeah, I read too quickly and missed the BT requirement.
I tether using bluetooth with my mac book, you can use Internet connection sharing or pda net, and use the btpan feature.

Solution: Connect G1 to Adhoc (Laptop WiFi)

OK HERE's THE SOLUTION. Thanks to everyone who made the great tutorials available to us :
http://hydtech.wordpress.com/2009/09/14/how-to-connect-to-ad-hoc-networks-using-tmobile-g1-android/
The important part is to tweak the windows part - you need to tell the broadband/adsl internet connection to share itself to the Private wireless network (the network manging your Wireless adapter). If you are having trouble with the windows part (say you connect and have full bars on the phone but no access to web) google ICS (internet connection sharing) in windows and you should get it working.
*Important notice: AdHoc will drain your battery very fast (1hour tops)
Maybe one of the reasons they disabled it... If you cant cope with taht - get a router. I'm cheap and I'm using it like that

I've not had any issues tethering to my Laptop, you can use either aNetShare or Wireless Tether for Root users. Best to connect the G1 via miniUSB too to your laptop to save battery while in use.
I tether at hotels or on my travels to write posts etc although the main sites I visit I can just use the G1 anyway.
Ooooooooh this is for tethering, via I remember using the AdHoc method my ex-iPhone.
I thought it was a way to activate adhoc so the phone could connect to any adhoc connection. Like when I tried to connect my G1 to my friends N95 so I could use 3G connection (yeah got very bored in class one day )

[Q] No Tether for 3 UK

I have been taking advantage of the all you can eat data on the 3 network UK. They currently allow you upto 80gb data transfere in one month on your phone. Up till now it has been working great but since last night, 30th Sept it refuses to connect for wireless tether. Normal internet on the phone is fine, I am using it now to post this. Even with apps from the Market, such as Wireless Tether, Barnacle and Open Garden wifi, the same problem still persists. I have even tried to connect on a risky open network with no password but the same could not connect message is displayed. I have tried going back onto Roms where I had no problems with tether and still can't connect. I have task 29 and loaded everthing from scratch and still the same. I have also cleaned my similar, nothing seems to work.
Has 3 UK changed the apn settings for tethering as they offer this on another plan they have or perhaps the solution is more simple to fix.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Hi,
Mate I'm exactly in the same problem and I'm hating 3. I used to tether and use internet using apps yesterday and today I'm facing this DISASTER!

They probably have it User Agent filtered. So there servers see that the User Agent is of desktop origin and not mobile. You may have to google around for a way around it. Im sure there has gotta be one. Im starting to hate how all these cell phone companies wanna charge for tethering. Data is data, period. How can using my laptop to browse the web be any more costly to the cell provider? If anything it would use more data, but if there is a cap then thats my problem not anyone else's. -.- why is everything about money all the time?!
