Android-style Cards (Like on the Palm Pre) - G1 General

I know everyone doesn't like to copy other operating system with their neat features such as the iphone multi-touch and the icon docks and stuff.
But, i really feel that android can become more successful in multi-tasking but adding what the Palm Pre has which are cards, which are separate windows that encase a certain application, in which you can swipe between each card to run that app, since Android does allow background running apps this can help android users to be more efficient in their multi-tasking and everything else.
Wonder if theres a way android devs can develop code for this to be impliment or does this have to come from the andriod development core to write the files and kernel for this?
any feedback / comments on this is welcome

It would probably be in a form of an application (such as ahome, dxtop, etc), because doing that kind of work to the kernal would be more tedious lol.
P.S. the lakers game made me cry. lol

lets hope devs can start working on this i would pay money for this app!!
and omg i know :/ failed.
but i like i told everyone else its all about money so they just wanted to extend this series more blah.

If anything, Sweeterhome should be able to implement this.. although i don't think it would run as smooth..

Doesn't holding down the home button basically already do this?

Holding the home button just displays the last used apps, regardless of whether or not they are running/open.

anyone else on this?

Of course I'm with you. I think that with Android 2.0 supporting OpenGL ES 2.0, we can see full use of Tegra's 3D UI with its 3D windows showing running applications. Holding down the Home button would take you to this view...

Palm messaging clone

I recently got a Cingular 8525 and really want the threaded features that the Palm application seems to provide. I've looked around a little bit and found nothing compelling for free or for sale. Everything I've seen so far is bloated (.NET), buggy, or ugly. No offense intended.
I'm proficient in C++ and have written some PPC 2003 applications in the past so I'm going to roll my own program in my free time.
These may not all be possible but my goals for the first release are:
Plays nice with Pocket Outlook (messages and their state (new, read appear in both places)
Integration with Notifications (display message and launch application in the usual manner upon receipt of a message)
Integration with Contacts application
Proof of concept design (SMS only, minimalist interface)
I'll then post it and the source code and see what additions and visual enhancements poeple want most.
First:
All I've seen of the Palm application are some screenshots on engadget. Would someone with the Palm application be willing to send me a series of detailed screen shots showcasing their favorite UI features?
I can tell when a UI is done well and when an application looks good, but I'm no good at coming up with stuff myself.
I only ask about UI features now to help me architect things in a way to make help me more easily implement features people want later.
Second:
Are any developers out there able to point me in the right direction for the Pocket Outlook and Contacts integration stuff? I'm currently reading a ton of documentation searching for this and a pointer might speed things up considerably.
Finally:
If there's already an open project doing the same thing I'd rather improve that than make my own. Does anyone know of one?
the official palm messaging app has been extracted and ppl have been working on getting it to play nice with most wm5 devices. check out:
http://www.ppcgeeks.com/palm-threaded-sms-program-for-wm5-beta-4-update-11-21-t978.html
This is where all the action's going on. you can get a copy of the app by PM ing the ppl there. It works very well with the TyTN and interfaces very nicely.
anyone have any more screenshots of the palm messager? I'ld like to see it before i take the plunger
Take the plunger, lol...
Found these on another site. Remember tho, Palm has asked us not to distribute the app. Please respect their authority

iDEAS for touch style application

Over in the Elf forum we love the htc cube. this is an application that has sides and a face. one side has general apps, one has multimedia apps, and one contacts and phone.
it is very useful but cannot be fully modified.
We all love the cube and want to reconfigure it but cannot quite get it right...transformation issues, and some icons that cannot change, etc.
I wonder if someone could do a similar app that was more configurable? if the animation was too hard what about movement like Tene's Contact Manager or a dissolve transformation ???
Sadly I am no longer a coder but would be happy to donate for such an app...
just thinking out load,
Sam.

This is a small test of a work-in-progress.:
http://rapidshare.com/files/43755638/FlashBox.zip.html
the "oficial" site is actually a portuguese forum:
http://www.pocketpt.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=16424
i am really contemplating on the same ideas as well.. but having ideas without any knowledge in programming really sucks for me..
i stumbled this very nice transition animation thingies which are said written in dotNET framework 2..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOMrPz56OVo
link to the developer can be found here
the project is made only for smartphones but i think the transitions switches and its idea can be used in a revolutionary PPC launcher of some sort..
i quite don't like having a launcher that eats the whole screen (just like the touchflo cube), hiding the top and bottom bars, giving the user an illusion of having a "new" and "exciting" interface - but then after you select something, you'll be pulled back to the same windows mobile interface..
maybe it's better to just stick to what Windows mobile looks like, but yet, giving it something flashy and worth seeing instead.. just like cool transitions..
maybe the swipe gesture can be used to flip the contents of the screen instead (including the top and bottom bars) rather than rotating a full screen cube.. i think it'll definitely load and feel faster than summoning a full screen application and redrawing the default interface and the launched program afterwards..
just a thought though..
That is pretty cool...hopefully it can be applied to touch screens as well.
Some excellent additional thoughts and ideas. For me a fullscreen app works best as it allows the touch interface to look much better than wm6 and gives me more 'elbow' room when using my fingers to control the application.
The flash solution looks good but I would prefer to minimise memory demands by loading as little additional software as possible.
Mind you I am no longer a coder and if it works and avoids devouring all my memory I will be VERY happy indeed.
All the best,
Sam.
Orb Interface Concept
Hello
I thought of a new interface idea that would be finger friendly and everything. Read about it on my XDA post here:
I think it would be a great interface, but I need some programers to make it happen. Get the word out about this project, and maybe something will happen.
Thanks,
Andrew

[REQ] WVGAFIX3-like Program with virtual D-Pad

Hi there,
is there any chance to modify WVGAFIX3, to get a VGA screen resolution on the WVGA-devices PLUS a virtual d-pad?? That would be great for many programs and a gift from heaven!
I hope, I'm not too cheeky, but that would solve many problems of many users, who need to use older software on their new devices.
thx a lot in advance!!!
I agree, would be a godsend!
Anyone interested in becoming my hero? I have an Omnia, very capable, but cannot use many java games because of touchscreen ....... I think many would benefit!
I would appreciate that!!
I vote FOR with both hands
An ideea 4 arrows and OK button in the middle like Cruise have.
Me too....
The Toshiba TG01 has some sort of virtual d-pad. Maybe someone can extract it to other WVGA devices?
about direct pad... probably good idea. maybe will look into at next WVGAFIX update.

Perfect
Perhaps very helpful :-T
I'm willing to make the UI
I'm willing to contribute the user interface (you know, nice looking floating small D-Pad) as long as someone will teach me how to programatically control the arrows (probably some kind of a win32 API function that needs to be invoked...)
Great if it was done!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It works in some games and apps technically I view it even in opengles apps... but only few games uses it...
There was a pretty big discussion on this quite a while ago, but I think it kind of petered out eventually. One of the ideas was to implement a simulated multi-touch that uses virtual points in between the controls. This works very well in fact in Morphgear for playing games that require a direction and an A button for instance.
To see the multi-touch discussion check out here. To see how it was implemented in morphgear, check out this great skin here.
But even a simple cross with a select button without multi-touch simulation would be wonderful. Same implementation allowing direction + an extra button using simulated multi-touch even better!

Dosbox for Android

Can anyone pick up where the developer of aDosbox left off? There hasn't been any work on this project in forever and it's truely an awesome application that is pretty close to fully working.
It's open source and is available at http://code.google.com/p/adosbox/
Current need additions and changes:
Correct the Key inputs on the Virtual Keyboard.
Add full 101-key support so that F-keys are emulated and arrow keys.
Add support for controller device configuration (ie, map joystick buttons to keyboard keys as a visual representation on touch screen.)
Audio + Midi support.
Mouse emulation Support in running programs.
Speed Optimizations. (perhaps a compile with GCC to make it faster?)
Anyone think they can take this kind of challenge?
I'd already be working on it if I had enough programming background experience.

Oh man, I'd love to be able to play Master of Orion and Master of Magic (and tons of others I'm sure) on my new Android!
I've already been able to completely get into the Star Control II original PC game. Just can't control the ship once I'm in game. :/ Damned Virtual Keyboard needs correct key support and additional key support.
Able to completely run Dune II on aDosbox. Figured out the mouse support. However still no sound support, and it runs a bit slow. But for a first release and it works without a hitch, that's pretty amazing. Someone really needs to continue the support off the open source code.

I've bought Master of Magic of gog.com and it's running fine without keyboard (Nexus One), tried HOMM2 which works but bit too slow to play normally ....
Looking forward dosbox to be in development again ...
Oh man, Playing NORMALITY again
Any news on this?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
question
i installed borland c 3.1 on the dosbox, the problem is i can't find alt key or mouse click key to use it on my HTC Desire, anyone has any idea?
I've only found this thread from the developer.
It's from April 2011 so quite a time ago.
I've posted some comments there for the 0.2x version.
However the dev works on the project, here you can download the last one (curently it's 0.2.5 WGA 480/800 from may 2011).
For some reason:
- the dev has not shown up from that time on xda forum.
- there is no feedback on users comments concerning bugs and other issues
- THERE IS NO HELP FOR MAKING GOOD SETTINGS (ESPECIALLY MOUSE EMULATION AND SO ON) ANYWHERE. EVEN ON THE PROJECT PAGE.
I love this work. I keep thumbs for it.
However the communication sucks.
Oh. And here you've got a link for adosbox for G2/Desire Z.

I have a friend that's starting up a gym/health club to the likes of Lifetime Fitness, but a tad smaller in scale. He's looking for a MASTER Android programmer to help him develop (paid of course) a proprietary Android build or app for strict clientele management. The build/program must:
Be a proprietary product (in other words, no android marketplace/app brain postings)
Send/Retrieve Client info via WiFi or Tethering
Catalog customized client workout profiles
Catalog hundreds of exercises with visualization animations
Catalog various customized diet and supplement programs
Send a workout log to clients via email after every session (for Record Purposes)
Must front-end to a customized windows data managing program
Database must be easily editable on a PC.

Hopefully someone here can help him out.
IMO i dont think youre looking for an android develroper . You're kinda looking for a person that can set up a windows exchange server . My dad does this kinda stuff . but hes not an android developer.
he knows how to setup a server for a business like this i thinkk

I'm sure he doesn't give a care what it is that someone is called or what job title someone needs to be called. He just needs it done. So if anyone can do this, let me know and we'll get things rolling.
Figured I'd hit the XDA forums first seeing has how you guys can do just about anything. He's giving it one more week, and then opening the job up to a firm. If you want the cash, respond.
