Palm messaging clone - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I recently got a Cingular 8525 and really want the threaded features that the Palm application seems to provide. I've looked around a little bit and found nothing compelling for free or for sale. Everything I've seen so far is bloated (.NET), buggy, or ugly. No offense intended.
I'm proficient in C++ and have written some PPC 2003 applications in the past so I'm going to roll my own program in my free time.
These may not all be possible but my goals for the first release are:
Plays nice with Pocket Outlook (messages and their state (new, read appear in both places)
Integration with Notifications (display message and launch application in the usual manner upon receipt of a message)
Integration with Contacts application
Proof of concept design (SMS only, minimalist interface)
I'll then post it and the source code and see what additions and visual enhancements poeple want most.
First:
All I've seen of the Palm application are some screenshots on engadget. Would someone with the Palm application be willing to send me a series of detailed screen shots showcasing their favorite UI features?
I can tell when a UI is done well and when an application looks good, but I'm no good at coming up with stuff myself.
I only ask about UI features now to help me architect things in a way to make help me more easily implement features people want later.
Second:
Are any developers out there able to point me in the right direction for the Pocket Outlook and Contacts integration stuff? I'm currently reading a ton of documentation searching for this and a pointer might speed things up considerably.
Finally:
If there's already an open project doing the same thing I'd rather improve that than make my own. Does anyone know of one?

the official palm messaging app has been extracted and ppl have been working on getting it to play nice with most wm5 devices. check out:
http://www.ppcgeeks.com/palm-threaded-sms-program-for-wm5-beta-4-update-11-21-t978.html
This is where all the action's going on. you can get a copy of the app by PM ing the ppl there. It works very well with the TyTN and interfaces very nicely.

anyone have any more screenshots of the palm messager? I'ld like to see it before i take the plunger

Take the plunger, lol...
Found these on another site. Remember tho, Palm has asked us not to distribute the app. Please respect their authority

Universal: Security & Screensaver

I find the current security on the device as being quite limited, and boring.
I was looking for:
1. A screensaver while docked that displays critical information such as a clock, appointments, date, appointments etc, and perhaps a user definable background, slideshow or similar. This is particularly handy while plugged in and sitting on the desktop.
2. Security module for while out and about, and maybe while on the desk, that will require password entry, but will display date, time, appointments, missed calls, unread messages etc on the screen until entered.
3. I was also reading about the remote kill on the pda, for wiping memory and sd card data when receiving an SMS and similar.
So, before I committed to some dodgy pathetic software that says a lot, delivers bugger all, and chews memory and resources, and becomes more fiddly than it is worth, I thought I would ask the gurus opinons on what they use and potentially what they dont use from experience.
A couple I was looking at installing are pocket secure v3, Dockware, and PDAKill.
Comments, feedback, suggestions?
I used to use 1-pass. It's quite nice.

this looks like a good little program haven't tried it yet but did you get it to work on your uni as it sayson the site its not WM5 compatible.
By the way congrats on the little one
scott
Cheers Scott. Like I said, I used to use it, but stopped because it would screw with AE Button Plus, and I'd rather use that then a fancy smancy screensaver
I've never tried it on WM5, so can't comment, although from memory I don't see why it wouldn't work, almost nothing was WM2003 specific. But, they should know.
I found that it was quite hackable as well, to force it to match my colour schemes, but in the end, as I said, it was no great loss, although pretty.

I contacted them and they indicated it wasnt MW5 compatible.
The other one I was waiting for SPB Time, but this also is not WM5 compatible.
Any other suggestions or comments from anybody?
bump....
any more comments, surely others are using screensavers, and or security settings?
or ... are you all just leaving your phones and all confidential information available to theft?
Anybody else using these apps or other alternatives: pocket secure v3, Dockware, and PDAKill

OneHand Applauncher

Hey guys,
over the last few days I've gotten so annoyed that I can't use my phone (Vario II) with only one hand so I decided to do something about it. Therefore I started to go nuts in Photoshop and Visual Studio and have so far managed to get this far:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
The buttons work and the time is correct but I haven't done the appointments bit yet (any hints on how to do this in VB.net?). If anyone is interested I might release this when I get everything to work, for example the paths to the apps are currently hardcoded, I want OneHand to load them from a xml-file so they can easily be changed later on.
The icons are Crystal Clear btw, included in most Linux distros and released under the LGPL license so they are free to distribute.
Any ideas/suggestions?
EDIT: Oh, and the idea is to add submenus with large icons etc to some buttons such as messaging, settings, web, games, music. Eg so you tap Messaging, then you can chose to write a new text/mms/email and check the inbox of each. Sort of like Spb Mobile Shell but hopefully a bit more configurable..
It is very nice. Something to different to look at that is not aye-Fone-ish.
Although I like the appointment part very much, probably you might not want to go on the appointment section first, as it seems for most people it is not a priority (for me, I use Pocket Breeze, for Task+App up to 7 days ahead). From what it seems, others are looking for things like .. battery, signal strength, number of missed call/sms/voice-mail. You may want to check the ayeFone launcher for users comments as well as methods they used to get into some of the inforamtion.
For other ideas, try looking at the 'Prada' phone interface. Do a search at YouTube to see how the Prada phone interface behave.
For much interesting interface, try YouTubing for 'Neonode' as well.
The Prada phone interface looks very inteesting. Might try to emulate some of those functions. Currently I find the Windows Mobile interface to be pretty much unusable for a phone. Everything is way too small and cluttered. Ill fire up Photoshop and see what I can come up with
BTW, almost forgot about this. Take a look at this program "rlToday". Go to its official website, look at all the possible 'skin' people are using. From what it seems, it can produce the interface you've shown above (big buttons to launch apps) and clock (without the appointment part) BUT, it also ables to show how many missed call, SMS, etc.
Thought you might want to know this to avoid making duplicated efforts. Happy coding.

Has anyone else seen this UI?

The enabling UI technology was Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF). With WPF we could rapidly build something that looks a lot like iPhone in a very short time. I was playing the dual role of a Designer + Developer and tools like Blend and Design greatly helped in skinning the app. Below you can see a bunch of screenshots and a short video of accepting a call.

How was it built?
* Blend and Design were used for creating the skin of the app. The XAML UI was created in Blend and the graphics were developed in Design. I had made a post earlier about how the icons for the app were created in Design.
* The GlassWindow control was used for creating the window chrome.
* Although you cannot see in the screenshots above, the Drag 'n' Drop library was also used
* I missed out using the ElementFlow, but that can be easily added. I only need to find a business case for that
This example only goes to show how powerful WPF can be. With greater tool support from Blend + Design, lot can be achieved in a far lesser time. Now until I get my own iPhone, I will continue to use the WPF version
Didnt know you could get WPF on win mobile, would be nice to see it used to do something other than clone the iPhone though
iPhone is overrated. It was a fad, we dressed our pdas up for a while, but its tiring. I feel for iPhone owners who actually have to deal with it everyday.
If you look on the link you provided in your first post, you'll see a video that shows this is not running on a mobile but on a desktop. WPF is a component of Vista, and the app probably runs in an emulator of some kind (you can see a mouse cursor in the vid).

Testers needed for WMOptimizer v0.0.0.1

Hi all, this is my first time to write a post here, I need some testers for the application I am developing - WMOptimizer, it's basically a tweaking application for Windows Mobile. I know there's already some tweaking applications like XperiaTweak, Tweak2k2, and DiamondTweak for WinMo tweaking purposes, but I intended to make WMOptimizer finger friendly and visually appealing. Maybe this two enhancements are optional to most users out there, as functionalities are most important of all, but I want to test my ability of using .NET Compact Framework to make an application that is generally acceptable by the public.
I'm a international student studying in Australia Queensland University of Technology, the reason why I'm developing this application is because I want to try and sharpen my own programming skill and if possible add this into my port folio/resume, as an international student from Malaysia, a strong resume is very important, I hope to use this opportunity to strengthen my resume.
I've opened a wordpress blog for this application, http://wmoptimizer.wordpress.com/, I will post the most recent updates of this application there.
WMOptimizer v0.0.0.1 can be downloaded at my Skydrive here, please leave a comment here about the application.
It's developed in WVGA resolution, because I only have one WinMo device, Xperia X1, so it's my only option, please try the application using other WinMo devices and let me know the results and what you think about this application, thank you so so so much!
You can contact me via leaving a comment on wmoptimizer.wordpress.com or email me [email protected]

i tried it seems to be very promising however in present state not very useful .
When more features are added, I'm willing to try it out. I don't think it will be ground-breaking, as for instance Schap's Advanced Config can do this already, and so much more..
Keep going on your good work mate! Seems very promising !
promising but not that useful considering the lack of features. your next version should have the majaority of whats in advanced config 3.3

A Call to Action !! Windows Phone fans...Smart Watch and/or open Smart Watch support!

Many of you will not know me, or remember me from the HTC HD2 area, or HTC Typhoon days ( by the way Thanks for all the great roms guys !!!!), however I never left Windows Phone, just moved up to a Nokia Lumia 1020.
Any way I have wanted a Smart Watch more then likely longer then most, not important, but being I have always been a Windows Phone user I have been on the outside looking in, like most of you. The Brave Pebble users aside, as they only have 3rd party Support, with 3rd Party coders not given access to allow sms/email/notifications. Microsoft only grants access to OEM, and Pebble is not interested in building for Windows Phone.
Any way things need to change and they need to move forward, but Microsoft for some reason does not see the need to expand beyond The Band. A good bit of kit, but designed for the fitness fans, not for the Smart Watch crowd, as The Band can not do the most basic of Smart Watch........a Watch Face.
Now news has leaked out that during the change of ownership of Nokia's Mobile division, a Smart Watch was to release with the Nokia Lumia 930, Moonraker was it's code name, but Microsoft stopped it's release. I see this is a slap in the face to Windows Phone users/Supporters/Fans, and Should not Stand !!!!
I give you Moonraker.....

Any way I am looking to drum up support, votes, tweets and retweets, hash taggers...and any other way you think you can push a message across to get Microsoft in Gear !!!! To either reverse the nix on the Moonraker or take the wraps off of what ever project they may have in the works for Smart Watch/Windows Phone users.
Links to add support ( but feel free to post your own ideas as well !!!!!!) :

Microsoft User Voice to vote on:
A Call to release anything Smart Watch like, not just The Band
Open Support for 3rd Party, mainly Pebble
Also if you can think of any other ways to draw attention to this, Please post it up and add support. If we don't force the issue Microsoft will not see any need.
Ok thanks for reading!!! Hope you all join in and help raise a fuss
