Ok call me a tool, etc if this thread already exists however I promise you I've searched high and low and cannot find any thoughts on this subject.
Im running 5.0.2h right now and find it very visually appealing, and really not that buggy. However, I was thinking of upgrading to ADP1.5 but eh I'm not too sure.
Any thoughts? I would just like to know the Pros/Cons of going up to the JF ADP build.
Thanks
EDIT: Sorry for the misleading title. Meant to put ADP1.5 vs Haykuro HTC build.

Why not get Haykuro's ADP1.5Hr3? Best of both worlds?
In my opinion the JF builds are the closest to OEM as far as quality and being as bug free as possible. With the Haykuro builds there may be more issues but 9/10 of those issues most people wouldnt notice. I say learn how to do backups and just play around, that way you can try new things and can always go back to "how it was".

VK is included, no dialer. I use StarContact for the dialer, which does the same thing for me.
Yeah I knew it had that, but I meant the Compact QWERTY one that the TouchInput apk installed on your phone.
Does that come with it?
How to recover nandroid backup
Make sure you have fastboot working.
Go into recovery console and do a backup.
Boot your phone, connect to a computer, and copy the backup folder from the nandroid folder on your SD card onto your comp.
Reboot back into recovery console.
On your computer browse to the folder containing the backup files and open a command prompt.
Code:
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash userdata data.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot
It should take a while to load for the first time but after that you should be back to where you left off. **This does not apply to AppstoSD**
Great, thanks again.

I'm not sure which one you're referring to.
Eh no worries, I upgraded to JF's 1.5.
Im happy with it, it seems to be running much faster than 5.0.2 build.
Thanks again for all the help.

Hey, Im new to moding my G1, I used the walk through found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=533731
I like the whole look and stuff of the JACHero rom but its a bit slow for my taste. So my question is how do I change my phone back to the way it was but keep the root access and stuff. I did do a search but being new I'm not entirely sure what exactly I'm looking for.
So if you have a link or somethign that would help me that would be great. Thanks.
Try running Jacxhero1.2 its a lot faster
If you have cyanogens latest recovery image (linked in my signature) you just download the zip file of the next rom you want to try and put it on your sd card.
Power off your phone, start as you hold the home key, go to "flash any zip on sd card" and select the zip you downloaded. Go through the flashing process and you will have the new rom without losing root.
If you run into problems with a new rom, wipe and reflash.
Thanks I got it now. I thought it might be that simple but I didnt wanna brick my phone so I figured Id ask.
Since Im on JF still, if I wanna switch to Cyans, I wouldnt need to wipe would I? Since the roms were based off the same if I recall? Would it be like a upgrade or would it be more a fresh start but just the apps intact?
Also for emulators.. JF vs Cyan, is there a diff in speed?

1. Do I have to wipe?
You shouldn't have to wipe if coming from a JF ADP-based ROM, otherwise, probably. If weird things are happening, try wiping. You can also try the permission fixer script linked above. If you are coming from an HTC-based ROM like Hero or Sapphire, you are going to have to wipe.

Yea I know that which is why I said if I recall. However with so many builds now, something is bound to glitch and its always safe to check what issues others may have had going from jf to cyan, but wont matter really jf is about to release a new build if I read right. =)
[EDIT]
Sorry for being rude, I did not mean I do not like cyanogen the person (he is great.) But for the ROMs in the sapphire section that say to use cyanogens recovery that is fine. But it would be REALLY nice if they included "Oh btw this recovery image has a console that is UN-USABLE for the magic because it was made for the g1 and has no soft keyboard. So if you cannot adb your phone (like a lot of people because the drivers are sketchy) you should prob keep using amon_ra's recovery image since you can partition from there.
[EDIT]
If you had actually read the information posted all over the forums and the internet you would know that the mods do not overwrite the boot partition in the phone. So if you go into the restore mode and do a "wipe" and then reboot you would get your phone working again.
Dont blame others for your stupidity...
I didn't directly blame others, I just didn't understand why someone who made a sapphire rom would reccomend using cyanogens recovery image, when it is for the g1 and you CANT access the console.
I did a wipe, the phone will NOT boot, at all. The only way to get a hero rom to boot on my phone is to format and partition the sd card after installing the update.zip. If my sd card is not formatted the ROM won't load... So I am stuck.
I don't get how people can install roms w/ out partitioning their SD again because it does not work for me.
Sorry for being blunt, and upset. But my phone does not work anymore, and it is very frustrating because windows won't detect my mytouch. I have installed all the drivers, so can you please help instead of critizing me??
I need drivers for the t-mobile mytouch that actually work on xp sp-2. Or since I cannot boot how can I flash a different recovery image to the phone? Can I do it w/ an update.zip?
Okay now here is what is happening...
I got adb finally, and it will only get to recovery it says
adb devices
blahblah recovery
I try to type
fastboot boot recovery-RAv1.2.1G.img
Then I get < waiting for device >
And it just hangs forever! Why? Please help me...
Actually cyanogens recovery does let you fromat sd without console. It works on dream and magic. I used it on my buddys mt3g yesterday.
Next option.....and here is the kicker.......use sd reader to reformat and partition the card and copy over new update.zip. BTW you must have an older recovery since all current ones have the update choose zip option. Also search for rav 1.2 recovery.
nice how people diss the devs when they dont understand what they`re doin in the first place!
Cyanogen is THE MASTER!
Mods PLease close this thread, Thank you!!!!
Put your hate on your own stupidity fool!!!
The developers does a great favor for all of us sharing there work.
WTF... I meant I hate cyanogens recovery console.. Not his forum moniker!
I appreciate all his work greatly, he is a genius.
"Actually cyanogens recovery does let you fromat sd without console"
Where??
For now I am sticking to Amon RAs recovery, and unless it is clear how to format the SD without a soft keyboard in the recovery console others should be reccomended to do the same.
So typical to think I am trolling, when I was just frustrated with the fact it is RECOMMENDED to use cyanogens recovery. There is NO soft keyboard for the console, so what is the point if you own a magic?
yakovich, how stupid are you?
You try to fastboot in recovery mode.
Idiot.
Have you ever heard the word "spl"?
Why are you flaming me?
If you even attempted to read what I said at the time -- I could not fastboot because I did not have adb or shell or anything. And I had a terminal (cyanogen recovery only) that has no SOFT keyboard (you know the magic doesn't have a keyboard right?) I had to install ubuntu on a different machine to get my phone to boot.
Yako, if you were smart you would either delete this whole thread or edit the title. you are coming across as an ass.
LOL... I know, it was REALLY my fault.
You guys all know the shear frustration I was facing at the time, and I hope you can all forgive me for coming off as crass and ignorant. It was really my mistake, and I'm glad it happened because I figured out a much better way of partitioning w/ shell.
I will make it up, in time... promise. I rly <3 this forum.

There have been many many messages like i tried to flash this 32a on my G1 please help... yes they should have read what they were about to do first but we still try and help or tell them thier phone is FUBAR.. You guys with your name on roms are getting a little swelled in the head i think thats my opinion and im entitled to it. You tweak roms whoopie.. you can't even write code to get bluetooth to work so to me that means all you do is tweak someone elses work.. thier ive vented. now you can close the thread and/or ban me for speaking out too.
I agree, Amon_Ra's is much easier to use and ment for the sapphire/MT3G that doesn't have the hard keyboard while the cyanogen is better suited for the G1 which does have the physical keyboard.

It seems to me you're trying to run the fastboot commands from the recovery image, but they're two different things. Fastboot work when you boot with POWER+BACK into fastboot, if you can't get there it seems you might have messed up flashing the SPL?
Hi again
I found these one's:
Cyogen Makin' Bacon
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php? t=613812
RA Recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php? t=611829
Can I just flash these one's on my phone now when it's unlocked? How do I do that? When I'm flashing Cyogen's Makin Bacon Addon, how do I do that? Can that only be done Bacon Addon, how do I do that? Can that only be done through ADB? Or can I use fastboot?
Br

theres a tutorial in the development section, but the breakdown is you need to boot into the bootloader by holding powerbutton+trackball then once in there by fastboot on your pc run the fastboot oem unlock command.
OK
But the problem is that I have flashed my N1 with superboot. It is working OK. But I want the new recovery as mentioned above. Then can I just flash the N1 the same way I flashed it with Superboot?

no actually you just put the cyanogens rom on your sd cards root folder, then in your recovery thing you just apply any zip if you have RA's Recovery.
OK
Will this overwrite the Superboot incl. It's apps (Superuser Permission)? Or what will happen to it?

he's cyanogen.

Hey everyone sup? I need Help Because my client has a Droid Eris phone, he has stuff that he dont want to loose, i never re-flashed or programmed a droid phone but i have experience in computer repair because i own my own computer company at home, i know C++ programming etc. but i never hacked a droid before, can one of you give me an tutorial on what i need (tools etc) andbasic instructions on hacking his phone to where he can do custom apps and use any carrier or plan on his phone like sprint, att, etc..???? thx alot if u can, plus ill help anyone with advice for computer related issues cause im the man when it comes to computer problems.
How about a sticky that says "If you can't understand the unlocking and flashing procedures listed on this site, then you had better not try to do anything with your phone as it will most likely end in tears".
Seems like that would help. If you need to ask questions, you haven't researched enough. And will most likely get stuck and come crying back here, or even end up bricking your phone and having to throw it in the garbage.

Well, as you seem like you should be smarter then this, this is the Nexus One forums. This board has forums for all sorts of HTC phones, and I'm sure you'd get a great answer, if you posted in the right section. Or, even, how about doing a Google search? You'd probably get more answers from that too, then from posting in the wrong forum. Thanks for stopping by though.
I have an unrooted hero I have had since launch day. I am now thinking about rooting my hero with use of the latest Sprint leak. my understanding is if you update to the leak of even the official builld whenever that may come out, it will close all current rooting holes available. I guess that doesn't mean in the future there won't be other possibilities. do these new build give the same sense of stability as the official roms because we can now use an official 2.1 kernal?
so from what I have been reading there appears to be only one Rom that is based on the current 2.1 leak and that is flipz Rom? I have a few questions or statements before I do anything to my phone. one, will this help get rid of the lag when typing? two, I need to make sure Bluetooth is still going to work as I have a home phone that I connect my cell to when I enter the door. if I decided to flash back to the official release, is that possible?

As of right now; many people are cautious about testing the latest 2.1 leak; because of the concerns you expressed earlier -- having your phone unrooted by the 2.1 leak when you flash the new update. So, with that said; the current 2.1 ROM's are all pretty stable. This new leak, however probably is as well, but again... I don't know whose all tested it, for fear of loosing root access.

No. Damageless ROM's are also based on the latest Sprint leaks. All ROM's you see should tell which ROM they are based off of. Almost all 2.1 ROM's are currently built from any of the Damageless ROM's -- just read the front page of the ROM you're looking into.

1. Possibly. The lag problem is relative to the person/device. Not everyone experiences this problem. However, turning off "Vibrate when typing" apparently helps with the lag issues. YMMV.
2. Please see first post I made.
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm investigating the best way of rooting my phone. I see there are a few ways listed on the wiki, but then i just ran across Fresh Kitchen (http://geekfor.me/new-release/fresh-kitchen-105)? This is suppose to root your phone for you? Is this a stable way of rooting or should i just use the command line mehods? Also, i have read that you should do a nandroid backup of your phone? Not sure if fresh is doing this for you? The other thing i should mention is that i just have a stock microSD card, so I dont plan on using app2sd, i dont think this is a problem correct?
I also see people load their roms using their microSD card and just putting some update.zip file on there. Is this the standard procedure once you root your phone and get a rom loaded?
Actually, Fresh 2.1, and 2.1.1 are the only ones as of right based off of the newest leak (signed with release keys rather then test), Damageless and Treve are currently working on improving DCUpdater, DConfig, and building a new ROM from the release-keys build.
As far as how to root, I recommend the command line method. While the auto-root methods are nice, actually doing it yourself will give you some experience with things you're gonna be using.
Yes, loading the update.zip to the root of the SDCard is the standard way to flash.
No, not using Apps2SD is not a problem, most people use it because they have a faster SDCard, which gives better performance when loading apps.
A Nandroid backup is something that you will do before you flash any update.zip (At least you're supposed to). It's basically an "Image" of your phone exactly how it was the point in time that you made it, so if you flash something and everything goes horribly wrong, you can restore said nandroid, and it will be like it never happened. (The exceptions are flashing a radio and screwing with the PRL/PRI, nandroid doesn't touch those.)

Fresh's kitchen will allow you root your phone and yes it's stable. However, it's best you try doing it via ADB commands, as there will come a time when you'll want to create things for the community and wished you had prior experience using it. I recommend you trying to root via this tutorial HERE If you follow the directions, you shouldn't have any problems whatsoever.
Stock card is perfectly fine; you're able to use Apps2sd, but don't have to.

To try out different ROM's -- the process is to download the file (which is a update.zip file in itself), but has been renamed to match the name of the ROM. All you have to do is; copy to your sd card, boot into recovery, flash ROM from the sd card, reboot.

There's your real answer. Thanks.
I'm having a hard time understanding why i would need the flash recover image in this tutorial (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583291)? I understand i would want to do a backup of the current phones state, but why would i flash anything before actually making this backup? Maybe i'm not understanding the process correctly, but i just want to get "su" ability and then do the nandroid backup? Is the nandroid backup an app i use?
Nandroid is built into the recovery image you're flashing. Before flashing the recovery image, there is no way for you to nandroid.
thanks! after watching the youtube video posting that mad more sense. So i know there is a chance of bricking your phone during all of this, where does that chance increase? Is it during the flashing of the customs roms, not so much the rooting process?
It is safe to say once the "official" 2.1 android comes out there will always be a custom rom based on it? meaning that if chosen by developers here there could be a build off the "official" 2.1 with the only difference is the rooted user is still allowed? I know that most dev are going to change the build in someway to "improve" on what the official build is done.
The only proven way to brick this phone is by flashing a GSM radio, or by having a failed RUU. I've never heard of anyone getting a "true" brick from rooting/flashing ROMs.
Yes, once the official build is released, all ROMs from then on are most likely going to be based of off it.
Ok, stupid question. I just followed the guide to rooting my phone, doing the nandroid backup and copying the backup to my pc. There are a lot of guide to root, but how to you actually flash the custom rom? I saw something about holding down the 'home' button when starting up? Does this bring you to the recovery image again? Do the roms have to be named something specifically?
Place the ROM in the root of your sdcard, and boot into recovery by holding Home+Power. From then select the "Flash update.zip" option and it will show all of the .zip files in the root of your sdcard. Just pick which one you want to flash.
great! thanks for all the help.
ok, so i decided to load damage's sprint leak that would still give me root access, well it doesnt boot. just goes to the "sprint now" screen and reboots over and over again? any ideas?
Did you wipe data and Dalvik?
Anytime you go from one ROM version to another (1.5 to 2.1, 2.1 to 1.6, 1.6 to 1.5, etc etc) you have to wipe, or if there's major changes between rom versions.
what do you wipe the data? i just picked the flash from zip file from sd card?
In recovery there's a catagory for wipe. Wipe data and Dalvik, then reflash and you'll be fine.
cool. thanks. trying that now.
so everything is working now. So i know one of the main benefits of having a rooted is phone is wifi teathering. Are apps like this in the market place or only on here?
There's Easytether and PDAnet. I haven't tried Easytether, since last I've heard it's x86 only, but PDAnet was a horrible experience. I just flashed an Eris based ROM, broke my PRI, and it enabled the built in USB tethering.

So, pulling your system image from /DEV/BLOCK/MMCBLK0P3, then modifying it, then pushing it back works?
Let me try and understand here:
I thought the whole locked bootloader thing checked signatures on the images that are about to be loaded into memory, such as the image in /system.
According to this:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/hkbf3/so_you_want_to_know_about_bootloaders_heres_the/
It says:
What does a bootloader do with digital signatures?
It uses them to check any update that passes through it.
So: dd any partition we want to modify, back it up in a safe place, mount the img we get from that, make changes within the img, and dd it back, = all good?
ie: signed bootloaders only have to do with installing update.zips on the sdcard?
Can someone clear this up for me?
Thanks!
Unfortunately, I don't know how to answer that... I have to make my changes through the tab and then pull the system.img. Everytime I make edits externally, my tablet crashes... That's why I'm in testing right now.
sorry guys, I'm not a developer so there are going to be some things I can't answer but if someone is willing to explain it, please do as it is a learning experience for us all... jejeje

If you'd read my question before making an all-caps rude response you'd see that I was asking if you've made any headway into applying the updates, not if you had already done them.

Dude, chill man... You are right, your question does ask about headway for the updates but here are the facts:
You are asking about updates on a BETA Rom that is just in testing...
I took your question to be if the ROM file had the updates (My fault for sure). I was not yelling per say nor trying to be rude but rather making sure that people are aware this is in no way an updated image and should not be treated as such... THIS IS A TEST ROM and since your question was posted within its thread, I took it as if it was directed to the image itself and not toward me and my development...
Look, as stated, im not a developer man, this stuff is a little hard for me to do. I do apologize because I did not answer your question correctly/completely but as far as the comment... Its what I meant. jejeje

Never did. Am back now on the EMEA version and going to wait until someone cracks the code. I have reflashed so much I can do it with my eyes closed.

Have restored to complete US stock. Had a lot of problems related to SD cards, had to swap them out to avoid errors on the actual update.zip file, but am back to normal. Now if I can just keep my hands off until the 3.1 update comes out, or there is custom ROM...

That's what I've doing for a while now....I guess I should have shared xD
been installing custom fonts and trying to change some of the system settings from other customized roms directly from the tablet.
Instead of reflashing wouldn't it be easier to just provide the files to push into the tablet? just my 0.02
Yeah, I can provide files for you guys to install but what I was going for was an image that contained everything already setup so you can just flash it over ur old one allowing the "customization" to appear upon install/pushin the file... jejeje
