the diamond,as we all know has a very weak screen..anything will make a permanent scratch, even your fingernail !....the point is once scratched it looks terrible...the only soultion (so far) is to install the white mannila theme http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433050
as this completely hides all the scratches...more white/grey /light coloured themes would really help all thoses scratched diamonds out there..so theme makers please do some variations on light/white coloured themes as the scratch problem will only get worse !
That's why there are Screen Protectors.
The screen protector is rubbish too though, i have scratches on mine that have gone through that to the screen.
We all know that accidents can happen to scratch the touch screens but if people just use the inside of their fingers or use the Stylus you shouldn't have a problem. I never have even after 5 touch screen PDA/Phones.
This might be worth a shot:

What the hell are you doing to your screen to get deep scratches like that?

Those things actually work by grinding down the surface layer so that the scratch is less diffractive. I seriously wouldn't use that on your phone, unless you want to destroy it completely.
I was under the impression you can send it off to have the sreen repaired.
Surely you can polish scratches out?

thats how most polishes work... they either fill it in or take a little bit off the surface.
the best i have found with previous devices is Acrylic Polish (like very fine T-Cut)
you wont break the device using it!
I used toothpaste and a soft cloth, to buff out light scratches from my diamond, it wont completely erase them, but it helps
My mates Dad just jabs at his screen with his car keys, it makes me cringe to think about it.
Surprisingly I took a dremel tool and put a cotton bit on the end, cranked the bugger to full speed and melted the scratch away. Need to be careful with how you do it but it does work. I suppose if you just go right at it and not pay close enough attention you'd warp the screen though...
Yes it is..
It simply doesnt work.
Its too thick. Because the screen is so large/flush, the sides dont stick down properly, further more it took me 15 mins to figure out that the top of the protector doesnt have a protective layer of plastic that peels off.. only the bottom.
Basicly I have made a dogs dinner of it and I only recieved my HD today! Tomorrow afternoon I have to go to tottenham court road, pay £10 to have a Brando one applied properly...
I had no issues putting mine on..... and it doesn't seem to effect the use of the screen.
Granted, it's not as good as the Brando's you mention but I'll stay with it for the time being.

dont you find that odd? all the other HTC supplied protectors, eg with the original Touch and the Touch Diamond had a peelable bit of plastic on the front. This one seems really low quality and it pisses me off that I have to enjoy my first day with the HD with dust and air bubbles/blotches under the protector... and shell out £10 to have a proper one put on

yes, Inkino will supply and apply a Brando ultraclear for me for £10. At least I know someone will put it on properly, air bubble and dust free.
The one supplied with the HD is simply terrible. Its too thick, so the sides easily lift up. there is no protective plastic layer on the top of the protector, so be VERY CAREFUL when flattening it with a credit card.
It's a bit of a pain to apply...
The cut out is actually the perfect size to fit, maybe a little to perfect. Many screen protector I've used in the past are about a mm smaller so it's easy to remove and apply. Let me explain... The HD has tiny ridges which is ever so slightly raised on the whole perimeter. So unless you fit it perfectly you'll find nice elongated air bubble on the edge. After a few attempts it's good now but managed to catch a tiny dust particle underneath which again causes air bubbles. lol
In the past I have found Expert Shield to be extremely good. Even tiny dust particles or air bubbles just disappear... Uses some suction technology. lol
Hey, can you please tell me which Tottenham Ct Rd shop I should go to buy and let them apply for a tenner?

LOL, and I thought that I was a mess putting screen protectors...
I must say that I have a little, but not enough, experience putting screen protectors. I normally miss the first attempt and that is what happened. This time I missed a little bit to one of the sides. I kept cool, lift a bit the protector and tried one more time.
99% perfect the 2nd time!! It fitted 100% across the screen, inside the whole edge, and I only have two little air spots, none inside the 3.8" screen area.
I wonder how some people say that this protector is very bad or it doesn't fit the screen correctly. This is not a brando one, but sure it's a good one. I can compare to the one from brando that I got to my S200
i also attest that the protector is PERFECT Fit. i have not problems with it so far. it took me 3 times to get it right. i would suggest the following in general:
instead of using fingers to hold the screen protector, use the peeled off portion to "hold" one of the corners -> ie. stick a TINY corner of the protector onto the peeled off plastic, this way you have a "handle" to lift the protector off should you mis-align it. also it doesn't get finger prints onto the stickie side, and it also keep the stickiness after a few tries.

I agree with you. I'm pretty good at putting protectors on, but this was a real pain. I think I refitted it 6 times and even then had to use tape to remove lint and such 3 or 4 times. It does fit too well. Ended up buying a Brando, but didn't get the Ultra-clear Picked the anti-glare one and fitted it in one go. But am not happy with the dull screen, so have ordered an ultra-clear.
Whats the best way to clean the hd2 screen? Is spraying a bit of window cleaner safe?
I use my forearm, it's nice and hairy and makes it look brand new
A clean dry cloth does the job, no need to use product and I would avoid water anyways... Just rub it with a clean dry cloth and watch the screen shine like the day you unboxed it
I wouldn't spray anything on the screen; I use a "Spontex" microfibre glass cleaning cloth. It's very soft and buffs up the screen in seconds leaving no fibres behind. They cost about three quid in tescos and also do my specs!
I use the inside of my t-shirt lol... or if its a bit greasy from the side of my face I'll breathe on the screen first to give it a tiny bit of moisture and then use the inside of my t-shirt... works very well
I rub it on my trousers, shirt, jumper, t-shirt, boxers... whatever's easiest at the time. I do have a glasses cleaner at my computer desk and tend to use that when I'm sat there. That gets great results.
Plus 1 for the micro fibre cloths. Absolutely amazing results, albeit they feel a bit strange in your hands (the micro fibre cloths, that is).
WB
Never use liquids to clean the screen as it may intrude around the edge (a strong breath is best)
The screen on the HD2 is very duarble so the inside of a Tshirt is excellent and very handy if you are dressed (always make sure there is no grit/sand)
and never to be using scrotum, because to catch hair can be very painfull and maybe also hygene problems

Lol @ laserviking
I dont own a hd2 but i carry a micro fibre cloth that came with my plasma tv i hace the nexus one
Another vote for micro-fibre cloths. I usually use the one I got from Specsavers to clean my glasses with. The advantage of this over clothing is not just that it's softer (and thus guaranteed not to scratch) but that it is far better at absorbing grease, which means the screen ends up completely free from finger-prints. Using your shirt tends to spread the grease around rather than removing it.
I use the screen cleaning cloth that came with my laptop (Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Xi 3650).
It is amazing and fast, I clean the screen in 4-5 seconds and it looks new and shiny
P.S. Do not use any cleaning products or water, just a dry cloth.
hey guys after cleaning my screen with a watery sheet for glasses and not the for the first time - I got a strange problem:
my fingers don´t slide smooth anymore on the screen, it feels like they are braking and slowed down because of this dry screen.also doing multitouch zooming one handed is a problem now!

The effect will wear off after you use the phone for a little while, it's probably the substance is creating a dry effect lool. And I recommend micro-fibre cleaning cloths, your shiny HD2 will catch everyone's eye in the market!
Oh wait, don't get mugged though Spraying some window cleaning liquid might go into the device through the gaps at the side or through the hardware buttons, causing unwanted problems. Good luck cleaning xD
1. get a shirt
2. rub your HD2 on it
3. ????
4. profit!
after i got my hd2 i used a screen protector to avoid scratches and i clean it so easy just rubbing it in my shirt and thats it, but guys how to clean the edges and the speaker and buttons parts ?
all this method of cleaning the screen is with consideration that u guys have a screen protector on right?
other then the microfiber method, all other method is scratch inducing and sooner or later a scratch will appear on the screen..

So I'm trying hard to keep my phone from getting even one scratch until my cases come in, which should be any day now.....
....then today I freakin' drop it on the concrete by accident.
I feel like $#!t ...my heart sank.... damn it!!!
BUT, on the bright side I am very surprised on how well it took the hit. The phone dropped and actually rolled a couple of times, yet it only marked up the plastic/metal looking trim that goes around the phone.
By any chance do you think the rim piece would be available later for a replacement part? Gosh I sure hope so. I'm desperate to go rip off the trim at the T-Mobile store
...I keep telling myself....it could have been worse right?
Bottom line: For how hard it hit the concrete, I'm impressed...since it was dark I was thinking it was going to be way worse, until I held it to the light to see the damage. Thank goodness for not a cracked screen....
BTW: I have the 3M screen protector. If it wasn't for that it would have for sure had some mean scratches on the screen....sigh..
Ouch.. I did the same with my new Touch Pro (current phone) and it also ended up with some dings on the sides, but that phone's partially metal with a plastic screen.
Since one of the frequent criticisms of this series of phones is the build quality, glad it looks like the Vibrant's made pretty well after all if it can survive that with only cosmetic damage.
you should put a warning in the title, those pics are way to graphic.

Yea I agree that the Vibrant is well made. I've read a lot of some people commenting on the material and all, but obviously they have no idea how well the made it is. Heck, I'm kind of glad it wasn't heavy and bulky.....

A gel skin would cover those up nicely. I decided to get one in the first place because even though I love the feeling of this phone without the skin on, I hate scratches/dents a lot more.
I had a bad track record with my G1 too... dropped it like 4 times
You should link me to where you bought your screen protector. I got Tmobile generic ones, but they suck, so I bought one from eBay. What I've got was this super thick, weird feeling protector, leaves too many bubbles, sucked. Bought another one, which is identical to ones you buy at the store, works good, but doesn't cover the bottom part of the phone.

The best one IMO is the one from clearfreak, which is the one I have. Just make sure when applying it, to follow their directions. You have to spray it with water, wet your fingers and squeegee the water out with the little tool it comes with.
It's made out of 3M and you can't even tell it's on. All the other screen protectors like the generic ones really mess up the touch response. It's not as responsive from what I've noticed. Stay away from chEapBAY if you know what I mean...those are all pieces of junk from china, hence 5x protectors for $0.99US

Very interesting you asked that because I was curious at first as well. However, I must say that once I did put it on, it didn't alter the quality at all.
As for it being sticky, I assume you mean on the surface when you glide your fingers across it right? Well...it depends if your hands are dry or not....it really doesn't bother me and I think it works fine...the only time it may be a little resistant is when your hands are sweaty. I think that would go for most all screen protectors though...
G'day all,
I just recently received my G2 and noticed that it gets very finger printy. I have the iloome screen protector and diztronic case but I want to be able to wipe the screen down every day or so just to keep it clean. What cleaning solutions or products do you guys use that won't take off the oleophobic coating on the screen protector or anything that is gentle but will degrease the phone? Mods please move if in the wrong section.
TIA!
I use the
Eyeglasses cleaner I got from my eye doctor and the soft cloth that came with it.
I used all that up lol. What about stuff that can be used to clean laptop monitors and other tablets/phone? The eye glass cleaner that we get only comes in tiny bottles and don't last long.

If you have a screen protector, then monitor cleaner will mess it up over time. You can get the glasses cleaner at a drug store. It's pretty cheap and you can buy it in bigger bottles then the sample you get from the eye doctor.

Cleaning minimal as possible. Too much cleaning on screen without screen protector just causes the screen to worn faster.

Just use a microfiber cloth...
If there is anything sticky that doesn't come off with the cloth, I just rub it with my finger until it comes off and then use the cloth to clean the fingerprints off. Oil from your skin does wonders.
