Im thinking of getting the My touch from Tmobile. I have the TP2 but dont care much for it. I have done some reading here, but would like to get some advice from My Touch owners. Last question, is the Hero Roms working good?

as far as using it on the mt? honestly im disappointed with it i never use the touchflo (which is the sense ui look) but i like the htc features so i just use those... sprint will have the real hero coming out this month if you want it that bad but if you dont care about speed and dont mind waiting at least a minute every time you hit the home key for it to load then go for it but its just too slow for me
**i must say i love the size of the mt3g its way slimmer than the tp2 and g1 which was a hugh plus for me and reason i still use it
Samsung Galaxy Lite.
There are 4-5 registered Android devices said to be dropping Q4 of this year for T-Mobile USA.
The MyTouch is fantastic. I have a G1 as a spare for development and testing. However, there will always be a growing trend with "the next best thing."
Keep in mind, there's a lot of this year LEFT to go. Keep your options open...open-source that is! HA!

He makes a valid point as well.
It just depends on what you can afford for the various data packages offered by the carriers.
My preference being: T-Mobile USA!
Fantastic service, loyal to them for almost 8 years now. Nothing but positive experiences with them.
Like I said though...the MyTouch is nice, but hold off...it could be worth it.

I am using a mytouch and love it. This is my first android phone and I don't think I will ever go back to windows mobile. These phones are more versatile and the interface is whatever you want it to be.
I don't use a hero ROM on it because I have heard too much about it being slow. I will wait for the optimized version to show up before trying that.
I was going to get the TP2 but the cost put me off. I am glad it was too expensive now. Showing off this phone to people at work has made 3 other people get an android phone.
I Dont know that holding off will do you any good.. I have seen the specs for the other droid phone that tmo us is supposed to get this year (well all of whats available) and honestly the mt3g is I think still the best one (assumeing you want a non keyboard slim phone)..
I know there is supposed to be some lower end ones coming out, but if you have the TP2 now I am guessing that doesn't really interest you..
Ok guys, I'm having a bit of trouble here.
Here's my situation. I'm currently on an orange 18 month contract, with 3 months left on my contract, so I can upgrade to something else in April, I've been told.
I rang Orange regarding the broken contacts on the volume rocker switch, which I think quite a few people have had problems with. They offered to send me a replacement phone which I agreed to. They then rang me back saying they were out of stock at the moment and I could wait 3 days or so for new stock for my replacement or they could send me a HTC Hero right away. I'd still have the option to upgrade my phone in April when my contract expires, allowing me to keep the Hero and choose a new phone, but I'd never be able to get the Touch HD again if the Hero ever had any problems.
So should I go for the HTC Hero or wait a couple of days for the Touch HD?
I really don't know what to do..opinions please!
Come on, guys, nobody's willing to give me their opinion on this?
I'm really surprised they'll send you a replacement so soon before the end of your contract!
Personally I'd either:
a) Accept a new phone (either one) and sell it on eBay for ~£200, then upgrade in April
or
b) Take the HTC Hero, to try out Android. If you don't like it, you can sell it in three months and upgrade to a HD2
Or if the HD2 (or another phone) is not to your liking, try out a new phone, get a new upgrade, sell them both, buy a HD, and still make a few hundred £££s in the meantime!
Thanks for the reply Smeddy, I see where you're coming from but that's quite a detached view. I'm looking for an opinion in terms of what a fellow HD Rom-flashing addict would do lol, as I'm sure I'm not the only one who's quite attached to this phone.
No more responses, guys?

Well its totally up to whether or not you want android or wm. If they are willing to still give you a free update in April and you want android, then it sounds like a good deal. But I'd get it in writing or at least take person on phones details and a reference number. If you want wm, then I'd wait a few days until a replacement HD is available
JM2C
I would wait for the HD.
At the moment Orange do not have any phones that I would "upgrade" to.
Come April that might change !

Andrew
Umm I had heard that the Touch HD had been discontinued with Orange. The fact that they have said they will replace with a hero, does that mean you have Orange insurance?
I have to agree with Fallen Spartan.
Without written confirmation I'd wait for HD, with it I'd try Android...
I do have insurance, yup. I'll give them a call back in about 2 hrs to see if the offer's on the table and get it all written down and sent to me. I'm leaning towards the Hero for 3 months and then see what Orange has to offer then as an upgrade..I still think I'd probably be quite gutted about giving up my HD though, that's the only thing stopping me..
I think I've decided. Considering on the HD I can run both WM and Android (not fully stable yet, I know but it's still there), I think I'll stick with the HD for another three months and then look to see what I can get then. If I don't see anything on Orange by then that I want to upgrade to, I'll look elsewhere.
I hope I don't change my mind again lol
Thanks to everyone for their input, much appreciated

Not at all, I didn't call them up until about 5 minutes ago. I think I'm most probably going to go with an Android HTC in 3-6 months time anyway so I'd like to keep hold of the HD as I've spent a lot of time tinkering and playing with regarding ROMs etc and would like to see how the windows scene progresses, even when I'll have my future Android phone.
Just flashed back to standard Orange ROM and SPL, ready for pick-up after work tomorrow..wow, it looks strange!
I believe that owners of the HD2 might have all seen the USA version spec of the HD2, obably air their feelings about the hardware upgrade, I just got mine less than a week ago, and then to read on the web about bugs and updates for the HD2 from HTC, but to read that the US t-mobile customer will have a higher spec is frustrating to every HD2 owners.
So I suggest we all write in to HTC direct, even if their excuse is it's exclusive to the "t-mobile USA" only as they requested for it. I have written in already, but am just one among thousands of htc HD2 owners out there, so the more customer request or support on this topic, they are likely to respond into doing something.
Higher Ram, Rom and a 16Gb of storage card, compare to what we received and most of us saved up, got ourselves tied in to an contract with an air time provider and also had to pay for the device.
Simply stating that let us all write in or email in requesting for either an exchange when the USA launch their model, or they provider us with a suitable alternative.
So join me HD2 OWNERS in making a petition to HTC about our concerns, that we all had to make some sort of sacrifice in getting the HD2, rather than any other competitive handset or device that is currently in the market.
Sorry For Going on so long and any bad grammar or repetition.
Sorry mate, but you've not got my personal backing on this. It's a different device - end of. It's not even on the market yet, and probably won't be for quite some time.
And also, I really have to question this statement...

It was in no way, shape, or form a sacrifice for me to get the HD2 over a competitor's handset. It was an easy choice, and the correct one for me. There is no handset in the world right now that suits me better than the one I've got.
I pretty much guarantee this thread turning into a flame war. I hope for your sake, and the sake of all those who do feel hard done by, that it doesn't.
Good luck
ok . sounds good .
BUT i dont think anything will happen , as far as receiving a new handset .
but i guess its worth a try .
Lol no wai, Im very happy with my hd2.
The usa hd2 will be beaten by another one in no time also.

Thanks for your reply, but to correct you, its not a different device, had got a responce from HTC uk branch that, it a demand put in by t-mobile Us network, not the Usa market, but the air provider.
All am stating that for the same device but higher spec's we deserve more than what we paid for, in the space of how many months of launching the HD2 device.
Whilst HTC have stated to a number of that T-Mobile requested higher specification, it seems that all HD2's have 576Mb of RAM, its just not being shown and that theres a chance that we've also got the 1Gb flash, but time will tell on that... so no I wont be doing it either...

I obviously disagree on what makes something a different device. Besides, even if they did offer me one of these as a replacement for my "old" HD2, it wouldn't work properly in my country, so it would actually be a worse handset for me to have.
Anyway, like I said, good luck.
I do not want to comment on the merits, or lack of, in mounting such an action (although I do feel strongly the futility of it), I do wish to point to the OP that his cross posting of the same message in other threads makes it look more like he is a troll or spammer. I suggest that he not do any more cross posting. Here is one example of cross posting in an unrelated thread, I am sure there are others.
Poor HTC
My company wanted to buy 60 htc hd2, on my suggestion.
After the news of the new model with 1GB of ROM and the unknown upgrade to the OS WM7, there was a stop to purchase.
At this point waiting a few days for the evolution of the market (tonight Apple's presentation).
I think that the mail of HTC is not necessary, the market is merciless.
Poor HTC, today again of -0.41% (international market).
I think it should nevertheless provide a review of business manager.

No its not a spam just an error on my part, and to be clear there is no malice intent with what am suggesting apart from hopefully informing HTC that if the Uk market should be offered either a higher spec for the uk market or an alternative good will gesture e.g 16Gb memory card, an extended battery e.t.c.
On the positive side HTc did get back to me stating the obvious of difference in spec of the same handset, but will be happy to forward my concerns to thee right department, now that doesn't mean my request has been granted but rather notice and something be DONE OR NOT but at least HEARD.
Thanks to everyone who responded, accepting both the ve+ and ne- feedback
I am happy with my HD2. More than happy infact.
It is blistering fast and I have modded, prodded and firmware changed it to death. loving the customization.
Mind you the 16GB card would be nice!
other than that I am perfectly happy

Okay, sorry for thinking you were spamming...........
As for 16GB memory card, how can you blame HTC for that? I can go around Taipei and see the HD2 sold with differing sizes of memory cards in different places. Or maybe you would like to pick a bone with Taiwan Mobile, who carries the phone with 16 GB of flash memory. It is the dealer or carrier who decides the size of the memory card, not HTC.
And, there is nothing new in HTC offering different variations on one phone. They started out as an OEM manufacturer. Check the XDA Developers Wiki on HTC's history that can be seen through the products they manufactured through the years. I do not remember in the past when a phone had an upgrade with another carrier that it created such irrational rage in some.
i can not say that i'm unhappy with my hd2, i got mine in october from the uk and it would indeed be nice if htc would give free upgrades but wait and see what newer roms will bring!
and as long as every hd2 will get the wm7 upgrade (if it comes) i'm not that much concerned
maybe if got an other device by then anyways *g*
nevertheless i will write htc about the issue cause i want to know what their response is!
Can we PLEASE close this thread?
There is no point to it. The US HD2 is different hardware and will never come to Europe, so there's absolutely no point in complaining that the European HD2 is different.
Those that complain here don't even understand that the US HD2 wouldn't work for them, anyway. Nobody has been "shafted", because everyone who bought the "old" HD2 would still have to buy the "old" HD2, because the "new" one just doesn't work here in Europe.
HTC had to make a different HD2 because of the TMO US 3G-Bands and maybe memory chips got cheaper, smaller or TMO wanted to have more, so they put more memory in it, beause they had to produce a different HD2 anyway. It's only natural that after half a year, better technology comes out. You can't buy any piece of tech and then complain that half a year later, something better is available.
The US HD2 is different hardware and there's absolutely no reason to complain. It will not work in Europe and HTC won't change the European version. Moreover, you can't expect anything you buy to still be the best after half a year. End of story.
It's true
It's true, but but at least call HD3 !!!!!!!!!!!! ( this is marketing )

I took my 386 into PC world the other day and they did a straight swap for a quad core 4.8GHz machine. They also apoligised for the fact that my PC only had 256MB RAM and gave me 8GB.
there's already a huge thread. so why don't go there and cry? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=622734
so htc used us for beta testers and some of you are defending them?
no wonder they get away with it..
iphone sold 8.7 million devices in the christmas period..why did htc not try and get some of that market in the usa?
simple, they know the device was not working properly..
No, because it is no HD3.
And besides, we will probably get the HD3 half a year before the people in the US. That's only half a year later than their HD2. Does this give them the right to whine like little babies?

No, you whining little baby!
Our HD2 was produced half a year earlier. At that time, those chips probably simply weren't available or they were too expensive. The people in the US had to wait half a year longer than we did, now just let them enjoy their HD2. It's only natural that technology evolves with time.

I know that this phone is really outdated but I have a chance to purchase a brand new one. I currently have a T-Mobile Shadow 1st generation because I have broken a iphone and g1. I'm really not sure if this phone is really out dated. I'm going to stay on T-Mobile for one more year so I need a decent phone to get me through that time without getting a contract. If you guys think its a good choice, I would be buying it for around 65-75$. or would it be a better investment to purchase a phone off of ebay or another website?
Thanks!
For that money go for it!
maple is one of the best non-touch screen smart phones
outdated?
Everything is outdated after 4 months...that´s consumerism now...
Personally I am quite happy with Maple
Hey, thanks for the quick response. A few more questions but it seems like the maple forums and development for roms have seemed to end...? Is that true?
Would it be smarter to invest into another phone? I'm open to anything, I'm just kinda looking? Is that price good for the phone? Thanks!
Depends what you want from a phone, if you want a phone focused on communication then this is definitely one of the best and most beautiful. Is a very good price, i bought a second hand Snap to 150 EUR. I am extremely happy with the phone, i did upgrade from HTC Diamond. Autonomy is superior to a touch screen phone, four days in my case in conditions which are frequently used messaging and e-mail and browsing.
Well, Looks like I'm a new owner of a T-Mobile 3g. Now that things are slow here, I will help you guys out develop and make this phone even better.
BTW: If you don't know me, I'm a mod at allshadow.com and I was really big within the shadow. Let the hacking begin!
Great to know you made your choice!
And willing to read you in Maple section where your help will be more than welcome!
The vibration in the phone is very weak, is there a reg edit to make it more powerful?
My friend just got out of a sales meeting where they got to play with it.
it is coming July 15th behind a large marketing campaign. No pre-orders, at least not in store.
They will be offering early upgrades like ATT did for the iPhone to get more people to get it.
They're screwing current Droid owners, though. Check out the live blog from engadget... I can't link it because of some silly restriction so you'll have to google it.
You can only upgrade if your upgrade eligibility is up sometime in 2010, which means anybody that bought a Motorola Droid is screwed. I got mine on launch day and I gotta admit I'm pretty PO'ed I can't upgrade.
it will have 2.2 and cost $199

Screwed? Of course you got screwed. That's how technology works. It screws you over the month after you buy it. Btw, you screwed yourself over for signing a two year contract. By next year, they will have a Droid 3 and the year after that and etc.

Really? Did Verizon suddenly change the upgrade language of the contract you signed? If you can't think ahead before you sign a long term contract, you have no one to be upset with except yourself. Verizon didn't screw you, your short term "gotta have the best right now" attitude is what screwed you.
No one cares that you have buyers remorse. You ultimately have two choices - wait until you can upgrade at the reduced prices, or go ahead and buy a new phone at full price. You could always sell your existing phone if you choose option #2 to help take the edge off the full retail price.
You can complain about it all you want, but you won't gain any sympathy, and it won't change the choices available to you.
You can upgrade...ETF + sell phone + buy the new one. Yeah, it costs money...so do phones. In 3 months when new snap dragon processors hit the streets people with a droid-x will be complaining. Buy the phone for what it is, and don't get pissed that there is better things out there. Or, if it is a big deal, pay up. Verizon doesn't get these things for free you know.
