I have had this problem for about a week now. i get no sound on the ear speaker during call but if i put the phone on speaker phone it works fine. is there anyone else out there with a problem like this? is it a hardware problem? I searched the forum but didnt find anything specific to the ear speaker.
Please Help Me.
I have had this happen before on many different devices after having the headphones plugged in. Sometimes it seems the sensor sticks.
I have always fixed thiis by plugging in and unplugging the headset a number of times, I always do this with a bit of a heavy hand and it seems to work.

Speaker not working - headphone / headset works okay - fixed
Hi Rai,
I had similar problem today, but I found that the headset was still working okay.
On further investigation, I discovered that the phone ring worked through the speaker, but I couldn't hear anyone or activate the speakerphone function.
This reminded me of a post I had read here earlier because it was as though the phone was failing to recognise that the headset was no longer plugged in; ie. if the speaker simply wasn't working, the speakerphone function should activate as normal, but I wouldn't be able to hear anything.
Some searches on this forum revealed a fix which worked for me today - I vigorously plugged, unplugged the headset a dozen or so times, and whala - speaker's back!
Apparently the headphone socket is known to do this from time to time: I suspect it's just a build-up of dust / dirt which was affecting the contacts. Whatever the case, I hope you have some success with your problem too.
Codenix.
aha ! ..thanx for the info, on mine it came on by itself. At first it it kept stuttering and then worked...but I will do what you sugested.
I have this problem too. :-(
Last thing I did was to play a very loud movie file before going to bed, now this morning I find the speaker does not seem to work at all :-(
I've tried the unplug/replug many times and no joy..
Also it does seem to detect when the headset is in place as it will not alow the 'Speaker phone ' icon to activate when it is plugged in..
Have I blown my speaker?
Hope not.
Last resort this evening is a hard reboot.
FIXED!
Thanks for the posts guys!
I just found out how to fix the problem i was having with my XDA.
Looks like the headphone jack was faulty and was convincing my system that the headset was plugged in. Result? the spaeker didn't appear to work and neither did the mic (bootloader diagnostics showed speaker and mic to be working fine.). Unlike others with a similar problem, I did not have the "speakerphone on" icon displayed when in any mode (phone or pda).
Solution: wiggled the headset around in the jack as I pulled it out and suddenly the speaker came alive. Not happy that the jack is faulty, but maybe I can fix that since it's just a loose connection or something.
Anyone out there got any advice on how to open one of these babys up and weild a soldering iron??

Hi
First post here so please excuse any ignorance.
O2 XDA Exec - standard Rom from O2 website.
Problem started a few hours ago after using the audio out for listening to music via mediaplayer.
My unit was working fine while playing, but later after it had been disconnceted from the stereo I noted that there were no tap sounds.
I first checked the audio settings, all normal the way I always have them.
Next I tried the reset button on the back of the unit, no help there.
I tried plugging in the headphones in and there is perfectly normal audio over the headphone but once removed nothing at all.
Getting more extreme I tried a rom update/fresh start, no luck there either.
Getting even more hardcore I downloaded the assembly/disassembly pdf from this forum to check if there was a physical fault with the 3.5mm audio port. I checked to make sure all the tabs were springing back after an audio jack was removed all seem fine (although at this point I lack a comparision).
Then for a test I rang my own phone from my land line and it seems to ring fine but there is nothing from the mic or either of the earpieces during a call.
I am fast running out of ideas and the last test really perplexed me.
I am almost certain that it is a case of one of the contacts inside the audio port not springing back and therefore cutting out the external audio, giving the device the impression that there is still a headset connected.
I don't want to poke around inside too much as I have so far been able to keep security tabs intact, just in case I need to send it off.
Anybody have any ideas on how to get around this? Is it possible that it is software and not hardware?
Please help as phone is a bit useless sans headset, which I don't really want to be permanetly tied to.
Thanks
Thom
keep plugging and unplugging the headset until it works or you get tired, if it works great, otherwise sent it in for repair.
Does nobody out there have a registry hack workaround for this problem?
When I receive calls its rings and any other sounds come through whilst the phone rings.
There must be a workaround here somewhere???
Had exactly the same problem. No sound but rings ok,
After the first time I plugged in the headphones, no sound. Its probably cause the headphone socket is so big in comparisson, that it gets dirty. Just spray some anti static cleaner on the headphone plug and keep plugging it in.
Worked perfectly for me!!
There is no registry hack because this is a hardware issue, not a software one.
The ringer will ring whether the earphones are plugged in or not, which is how you would expect a phone to function. The problem lies with the connectors in the headphone jack socket not recognising the headphones are unplugged. Resetting and even dare I say a hard reset will not sort it as the issue is not software related.
This has also been covered several times on the forum. The only way (short of taking the thing apart) is to keep plugging / unplugging the headphones until the sound reappears.
Cheers
Ant
This just started happening on my JasJar today (system audio returned after poking the headset in/out a few times), after 11 months of use. Does this get worse over time? Should I bite the bullet and try to get Imate to repair it?
Please advise!
Hi everyone...
I just pulled out my headphone plug and now I can't hear any sounds over the Prophet's speakers - No ringtones, no system sounds, nothing. Not even the other person when I call someone...
Still works over headphones though...
So what's wrong? Is my headphone jack screwed?
Thanks in advance...
That is a commun problem with this equipment.
The spring on the plub doesnt work right with the time.
One solution is to to plub and unplug several times and then test it if it the the problem has been solved.
Prepare to buy a new headphones plug.
Thanks for the reply... so you're basically saying, there's a mechanical problem with the headphone jack? That's strange, because when I call the phone from a different one the ringer works fine. But when I call someone else from the Prophet, I can't hear a thing...
I think that the problem lies with a little metal pin/pad inside the jack hole on the prophet.
When you put the jack in, it depresses this little pin, and deactivates the speaker, earspeaker and microphone, and transfers that over to the headset. After a bit of usage, it appears that it can get stuck when you remove the jack, disabling the phone's speakers etc.
I find that shaking it/hitting it/ramming the jack in and out, whilst building up frustration, can remove stress. It also can have some effect on the problem.
I'm just waiting it out until my contract ends, and i get a new phone.
EDIT: Ah, and the prophet naturally rings out loud aswell when you have the headset in, so that's why you can hear it.
I had the exact same problem, I sloved it by rotating a pin inside the headphone jack and it is sloved the speaker worked. I inserted the headphone and it work thus i took it off and prophet worked as normal.
wish good luck 4 u
hey, i have a stragne problem wit hmy hermes. all the sudden, the speaker on the rear wasnt working anymore when somebody was calling and i didnt hear anybody when on the phone. also, the person calling, didnt hear me.
so i blew in the plug for the headset and poked around in there with a little screw driver, as i read on the forum. then the little plastik thing in the plug fell out, i think it was loose before. now, i can still charge, i also can listen to music via headset. when people call me, the rear speaker is working again and people can hear me, however, i cant hear anybody! not on the rear speaker, not the normal phone speaker, not on the headset...
what can i do?
Hello,
sound is gone on my S200. Yesterday it all worked just fine, I was listening to some music on the headphones, and this morning I tried to call my gf, and noticed that I have no sound on the device.
The phone rings when somebody is calling me, so I assume its not the speaker, at least not the one on the back.
I can't hear a thing when I call somebody and microphone doesn't seem to be working either. I haven't dropped the phone recently.
Music is only playing via the headphones, same for calls.
Any ideas? I took the back cover off and took a look at the speaker, it seems to be fine, and as I mentioned it rings when somebody calls me.
Could this be a ROM issue? Using WM 6.5

It seems its the stuck headphone socket, I managed to get it working again somehow, but I guess it needs replacing. Any ideas where could I get the whole socket for replacement?

Hey I am having the same problem with the headphone jack.
My phone still "thinks" the headphone is plugged in even when it itsent,
so it plays notifications through the rear speaker but it wont play music and the phones mic and speaker dont work while calling.
what did you do to fix the problem?

Try connecting your headphones again and pull them out slowly, while gently applying pressure(as in bending) and rotating it. That did it for me, works fine for now.
