I took really good care of it. Well, until last night when it went through the washing machine...
I have the 8525 laying on a table with the battery, sim and back piece off. Any chance it will dry out and work again or is it dead for good? I didn't really want to buy the Tilt but if I have no choice I will.
I am kinda confused why the Tilt is cheaper than buying the 8525 from At&t. If I did this as an upgrade because I think my family is due for one, how much would the Tilt cost me? My dad also gets a discount because At&t is used by his company. But I am not sure if you can use that discount with a phone upgrade.
I don't know what to do..I really just hope my 8525 starts working...

Well, I would recomend to not touch in it for couple days, allowing the water to dry. After that, try to turn it on.
If not works, try disassembling it like here and try to clean the boards and pads with isopropilic alcohol and a soft cloth.
If still not works, well, go for a Tilt....
Good Luck

K. .. i just bought an htc wing on dec 17 2008... and at jan 21 2009... or 2day... it decides to stop working... i figure out that i had accidentally washed the phone.. what made it worse was that my brother dried it for like 5 minutes before he heard the clunk clunk clunk of the phone.....
Now im really screwed... I loved that wing.. it was my baby.. an expensive baby to replace. I called T-mobile wing and asked them if they would replace it.. (they dont know about the water damage) and they said yeah but if they found out about this they'd charge me $100.. . i cant do that .. .the only reason i have it is because it was free...
so i looked up some stuff on water damage.. turns out there's a litmus test.. i ripped it out... bury the evidence... but now what?... im sure theyll open it and find like a drop and go "ahah" and charge me that $100... i heard people dried it up for 24 hours and their phones would magically work.. but they would shut back down a couple of weeks later.. so i just dont know what 2 do. is there a professional cell phone fixer in the house?!?!
Some body help me!!!!
Removing the litmus test voids your warranty. You're screwed.
Get insurance. $5-10 per month. Then pay the deductable ($50, I think) to get a replacement phone. Tell them you got the phone for Christmas when they ask you when you purchased it (the reason is because they only insure phones that were acquired within the last 30 days).
well i dont know where u live but when my speaker broke i went to this website
http://www.picocircuits.com/
and i paid 20 dollars (+shipping)...they fix anything

Okay, so I'm assuming you have tried to power it on and it doesn't respond? I had an old Tmobile MDA that I dropped in a sink full of water, and let it dry for about 4 days or so, (with the battery out of course) and it powered back on, and worked fine, with the exception of a couple keyboard letters were harder to push.
So, that being said, I would try to let it dry out as much as possible, (with the battery out), and then try to power up. If it doesn't work, it would prob be more expensive to fix, than find a used one on ebay.
Yeah... i Let it dry and everything... its still dead...
I think its now bricked.
Gamefan231... Thats in NY... i live in OK...thats too far away.. but thanks..
Anyway... i called them back.. and yeah. as someone else said.. im screwed.. the litmus thing is going to void.. but they told me the red mark would have done the same..
It was because i got it over christmas.. and that 30 days thing that i have warranty... but i guess i just missed it.. other than that i am screwed..
looking at about a $100 expense.. pretty good deal for a $400 phone.. but now im technically paying for it 2wice.. so anyway....
Never doing laundry again....
I called them. they're going to send me the new one and take the old one back. If they can fix it.. hooray.. if not..not-so-hooray..
So far i have liked T-mobile so im not going to ***** about them BUT someone told me that At & T does water damage... so.. for next time buyers.. thats a hint..
Thanks for all your Help
AT&T and T-Mobile have pretty much the exact same policies with regards to warranty and insurance claims. A "warranty" in this case, is the warranty that comes with the phone and is generally good for 30 days, 90 days, or 1 year, depending on the manufacture, phone model, and whether or not it's refurbished. "Insurance" is when you make monthly payments to your service provider (e.g., T-Mobile), generally $5 per month, and in exchange you are relieved of all liability on your phone, including theft, lost, abuse, etcetera.
T-Mobile and AT&T will both accept a water-damaged phone that is "insured." Water damage, however, will void your "warranty" with either company. That's why in my previous post I was saying to get insurance (which, according to T-Mobile's official policy, can only be acquired within 30 days of registering a phone with your account).
Yeah... I should have got the insurance.. just didnt think it was necessary
I had a similar event...I spilled a huge energy drink over my Wing. I let it dry for a while, but when I started using it the speaker electrical shocked my ear...and then it started restarting and freezing constantly.
so, I found the service manual...on here I think...and disassemble it, cleaned it out, put it back together and now it dosn't freeze anymore...however the wifi dosn't work. I think I forgot to plug a cable back in. I think I may try to fix it today actually.
have you tried to dissasemble the handset and clean it with a contact cleaner? that water can be horrible on your handset... Dip the boards in like acetone for a second and blow dry it.. leave it apart for a day or so and put it back together. I can not tell you how many screens I replaced on my MDA(4).. It helps with sticky keys to clean under the keypad..
if it is of any interest to someone, I beleive I have the original HTC manual for the herald and the MDA..
don't ask me how it happened, i'm just telling you that you can't rely on the HD2 drop test video on youtube... if someone knows a good place that will make my hd2 look like a new one again, please tell me!
Holy crap!!
Good luck on finding a new housing and screen. Might as well chalk this up as stupid/careless/accident and just get a new one.
pitchbend your not the only one mine was picked up by UPS yesterday afternoon and is off to HTC for repair.
When I first phoned the helpdesk hadn't even received the price list off the service centre. I had to phone them up the next day and then wait for Lee to call me back
Spares are like rocking horse crap at the moment and the only people that seem to have them are HTC's service centres.
I've been quoted £140 luckily the insurance will pay

Haha... Sorry for laughing, im not laughing at you. try to fix it under guarentee and say it happend wwith you thumb and pressed too hard or something
(its probaly not working that way but you can try, ''no'' you alreddy have and ''yes'' you may get)
Or maybe u can say: ''i have no idea how this happend, but i saw supicious little creatures jumping on the screen when i left my phone on the table at night''
This maybe sounds hillarious but i have said this one time when my SE w810 had a broken lcd. They said they done it for free because the funny make up story
Have you called HTC? Should be under warrenty? Not many other options...good luck.
Somehow I don't think throwing your phone off the ground will be covered by warranty!
Either pay the repair costs, or fork out for a new one I'm afraid.
I suppose you could buy a new one - and keep that one for 3 months until spares are available... then eBay it!
Do you people not have insurance on this phone?
Really, at £550 a pop, I would assume insurance would be a VERY sensible option.
And how the hell did you smash the bottom of that screen in?! Looks like someone stood on it.

Maybe it's just me, but I've never purchase any insurance for any of my phones. The last phone I've had was a $700 Diamond when it first came out. I check to make sure I have my phone on me at all time. NO. MATTER. WHAT. I've grown to the point where I'm very paranoid when I step out of my car and didn't feel the phone in my pocket. Everywhere I go, I make sure the phone is in a secure spot (ie, carrying case) if not, I will make sure it's in an enclosed pocket (front pants pocket). Don't ever put your phone on your shirt pocket or anywhere with an opening because when you bend over to pick up something...BAM!! Just simple reminders that many tend to overlook. It's just a higher level of awareness when you spend an upward of $700-$1000 for a phone.
hi,
first of all a big 'sorry you', i know how it feels when a brand new toy dies.... i think spareparts are not available at this early time after release. and the glas is maby a part of the display itself wich makes it expesive. so best will be to send to htc for repair.

and if you want to try this, than you should send thme a copy of the book 'the wee free man' (i attached a picture of the cover), to proove your words .
regards mad.
to say that must be heartbreaking has to be the understatement of the year... lots of dude's don't bother with phone insurance but have you thought about claiming of your house and contents? If you have it the excess fee will surely be less than the cost of outright replacement...
yours in deepest sympathy
I'd go online and purchase some insurance, wait a few weeks and...
Thats nasty mate, I feel for you!
Insurance is all well and good but as with any insrance company the do not like paying out, you have to chose your words very carefully when telling them how it happened!
Know how you feel.
Oh,
That picture sent a shiver down my spine . Looks like the dog's been at it!
Year before last I got my shiney TytnII Christmas Eve, and trod on it Christmas morning. Certainly wasn't feeling seasonal after that.

When you are 16 years old, and owning a $1000 Sharp IQ8300M with 128KB RAM, and repairing your bike's tyre with a bucket of water to find the hole in the tyre, and you drop your $1000 dollar gadget in the bucket while bending over,
you will never, ever , ever ever put your phone in some risky place again. Ever. Ever.
My god the trauma hasn't gone! Anyone seen such device on ebay,
I need me one to get over it ...I just realized that..
That's disturbing.

Got mine insured through 'Supercover' - £9.99 per month covers my HD, and the wife and brother in law's iphones. Think (for the gadget mad) they do a 5 gadget cover for £14.99.
Feel your pain - my HD was replaced within 3 days of getting it thanks to an unzipped pocket.
Good luck with it!
EDIT - here's their link if it's any use

EDIT - the wife has suitably informed me that Supercover now do the underwriting, and you need to go through a broker. Link attached

This site http://cnn.cn will get it, but it's still to early you need to be patient or rich. they are based in Hong kong I've bought a cover once and got it in three weeks (good quality).
hi,
while surfing the net im stumble upon this honkong guy , i dont know everything about them, and never bougth something from them. but they offer the frontglas with the touchscreen, so if someone is in need for it, this may help.
mad.
I know this probably isn't the place for this, but I definitely need a place to vent where people can understand the frustration lol.
Yesterday I accidentally killed my HD2. The story goes as follows
I decided to clean my room and be productive for once, my phone was securely placed on my desk. I moved a glass of lemonade from the desk onto the floor so it would be out of the way so I could clean better.
So I started moving some things around on the desk, and next thing I know I see my HD2 falling like in slow motion. It landed in the glass of lemonade so I quickly fished it out. Both the water damage mark on the phone and battery were gone, so there goes my warranty call, and insurance was out of the question since T-Mobile's insurance only covers 2 insurance claims in a 12 month period regardless of which phone.
I had made a claim in June of 09 on a Sidekick LX I had damaged, and recently in May for losing my HD2. So they dropped me from the insurance making it impossible to make a claim.
So I left the phone out to dry and took the battery, sim, and sd card out it never turned off when it went into the lemonade, but the buttons became stuck on. More specifically the Volume up button became stuck on even if I pressed volume down.
So after letting it dry and blowing out every hole with compressed air it still wouldn't become unstuck, so I tried the one thing I knew would work. Electrical contact cleaner... Bad move on my part, that started to dissolve the plastic parts on the phone thus killing it completely.
Now I have no phone and can't justify spending another $400-$500 on a phone since I just bought that not 3 months ago for $450(I buy all my phones off contract)
I am very angry about what happened although I can only be angry at myself because of it... So anyone have any stories like this they'd like to share?
EDIT: Yay! 100th post!
Man that sucks, I watch over my HD2 like a hawk and have it with me all the time, either that or I will leave it in the middle of a table and far away from the sides.
Also what's this watermark thing you speak of?
Wow chaos, that sux big time, sorry to hear that! (yes, it was kinda painful just to read that!)
The only ray of sunshine I can offer is the fact that it's much easier now (following tmo's father day promo) to find new and near-new HD2's on the open market for less than they were before...in fact, there's at least one member here (atxdrift) who's selling his (only slightly used) one for $350. So, you might be able to find an acceptable one for a bit less than you expected. I know it's not the best answer, but there might be hope for you yet
sounds almost like a modern day comedy slapstick sketch,. , the day just getting worse and worse.

small white dot, look top left of the battery.
I wish I had renters insurance, what's most likely going to happen is I'm going to have to spend a month with a cheap pre-paid phone until I can get the money to buy a new phone.
I have a hard time trying to justify spending another $250-$300 on even a used HD2 since it is still the same phone, so chances are I might be leaving the HD2 community unless I find a really good deal.
I'm gonna hold out until the T-Mobile version of the Galaxy S comes out and give that a shot, so it's going to be a very long month lol. I've always had a smart phone, so it's gonna be weird going without one for a while.
1st try soaking it in clean fresh water then opening it up and drying it out. See if the suger is gewwing up the buttons. As long as no power is on or in the phone it shouldn't damage it. About a new HD2. Don't worry about it. I see them for same 2 weeks old on CL in mint condition for $225 - $250 almost everyday. I always go that route because even if the phone breaks I can still buy another for cheaper then buying it new with insurance. Since you already own the SD card you could proably sell yours for $30 or $40 and get the price under $200. Plus a digi/LCD combo is $150 so you can recover that too. So think about parting it out too. Once you part it all out, sell the sd card, and get a deal on CL your gonna probably make a couple dollars or pay like $50 for a new HD2.
I'm currently selling these two phones on ebay.

If you are interested in either let me know and I can probably give you a discount on the auction if you win it. I can't give it away but I don't mind just covering my costs.
if you always buy your phones out of contract, why not just bite the bullet and renew???
I bought my HD2 this week on ebay for $330 flat, brand new condition and everything included but the SD card (had my own anyway)... I'm sure there are similar deals out there and probably better, a lot of people were disappointed with HD2's software (lol guess they didn't know what Windows Phone was all about) and want to get rid of it for an Android device, so keep an eye out for those deals. Some people really don't know what they've got. Sorry that happened to you, I was really bummed when I dropped my TP2 and the speakerphone jacked up. But I made the call anyway and they replaced it with a brand new one for free, so now I have a new HD2 and a new TouchPro2 as a backup. My suggestion is always try to keep a nice backup so that you're not completely devastated if the inevitable happens... But every time I drop mine or have to pay or make a call I learn a lesson, lol... Take it as a learning experience.
There going for 250 on craigslist
I got mine off CL with a total of 5 hours of use in mint condition. Guy was asking for $300 for phone alone at 2am. I texted him offering a trade and cash and he said cash only. So jokingly I said well if its in mint condition, you have the box, the SD card that still has the transformers on it, the charger, the case, and headphones, I'll give you $250. He texted back 5 minutes later saying "When can we meet?" Turns out the new Iphone was $300 with a new contract and he said he could come up with the extra $50. So I met him and got it and sure enough it was mint with not a spec on it. I bought it and turned out his girlfriend was there selling hers for the same price for another iphone. Unfortunately I didn't have another $250 on me and they sold it an hour later. The fact is the HD2 while being the nicest phone around is just too much phone for many people, they don't understand you have to install apps by cabs, they don't get the 10 years of upgrades and mods we have. So they just want to get some money back out of it and get an iphone or android. Most are listed from $285-$400. But most will take around $250 cash. All the ones you see for $300 keep getting posted over and over, just offer them some cash and they will bite. I would avoid posting offering $250 for one because you will probably have someone with a stolen one or messed up one try to sell you one. Just email each seller with an offer.
I know that I shouldn't laugh, but this reminds me of the time that my buddy used Goof Off to clean a stain on his sink not realizing that it was made of a plasticky material! He cursed himself for mucking up the plastic and then read the warning on the can that we are ALL too familiar with... "Please test product in a discreet location first to make sure that product does not damage XYZ" (<- Obviously paraphrasing)
My friend spilled soda on his crt monitor and it still worked. I can't see why it won't work after you clean it out and dry it. Then again I can't see why the lemonade glass didn't get knocked over.
I want to Sell mine
T mobile version Unlocked
mesg me is someone wants
dont get me wrong i LOVE my evo. its just a few problems that make me go INSANE most of the time.
to start off my lock/unlock button is on the fritz. I can unlock the screen no problem but when i try and lock it, it DOESN'T work. i have to wait till the screen idles out to go to sleep. gets on my nerves.
another issue is how every charger i get for my evo is crap. in order for me to charge my evo the usb charger/wire has to be in a cretin position in order to charge. this is my biggest issue by far.
lastly is the issue of the white evo. i have the best buy white evo and the paint always chips away and turns ORANGE. where the charger port is and even the headphone jack is the white paint is chipped away and orange just from nonstop plugging wires in and out of it.
does anyone else have any of these issues ?

I don't have any of these issues, nor do I have a white evo, so no paint problems, but I did have a couple of case cracks and dust under my screen. I took it into a Sprint store, and they happily replaced the screen and pertinent body parts. It took about 15 minutes and cost $0. Perhaps, this is the solution to your problems. Good luck.
I use a Blackberry Charger and the cord is super long,, i was annoyed with the stock 1 foot cord!! lol but ya ive been using it the day i bought my evo and not had any problems! give it a shot..
+1, why not return it to stock (unroot it if it's rooted) and take it in? They'll try a wipe on it at least and most likely just replace it if the usb is busted.
Sent from my hand.
I'm sorry... I'm not sure what "the cretin position" means. I can tell you that I don't have any issues with the charger that came with my phone, the charger that came with my headset, a USB cable in my computer, my car charger or the cheap Chinese charger that came with my extra batteries. It sounds to me like you need a replacement phone, friend.
well this is my 2nd evo from sprint. my 1st evo i dropped and the entire screen cracked. i took it to sprint and they gave me a replacment but it was 40 bucks. how come i always hear people saying they get a replacment for free.

How long ago did you drop your phone? They initiated a new policy a couple of months ago... Late October I think..
Anyway, if you have TEP, you can go into Sprint and get things fixed or replaced at no charge (not water damage..that is insurance). If you don't have TEP, it is supposed to cost $35.
I did this earlier this week...
im pretty sure i have TEP. i think i pay like 7 bucks a month for it or something, is there a way i can check ?
Log into your account on the Sprint site. While you are there, read about the repair service and details. You want to make sure that you go to a "repair" center store. I am reading on this site that Sprint is changing policy again..not sure what that means, but you might want to jump on this before they do... if they do.
"repair" center store?!?!?
wtf, i have never heard of such a thing haha.
check the Sprint site for repairs and they will tell you where you can go.... It seems that the corporate stores can do repairs and "some" not all of the third party vendors can do them. It is worth checking. If you do a store locator search, the stores will show up with repair as a service (or not...)
odd the one i went to was a repair center.
it was odd the guy made me pay 35 bucks CASH ONLY when it was done. i never got a recipt or anything. i think he pocketed my money lol

ok... you dropped your phone and broke the screen .. right?
well that is not warranted... that is damage due to user. phone warranty should be voided by that. but..
since you have TEP... it should have cost you $100... to get replacement phone. refurbished maybe. and wait till you get the phone in mail.
they did you a favor.. and repaired it for $35.... right there as you waited.
Now.. you can also take your phone in.. to get your power button repaired... that should be warrantied... unless it was damaged due to the drop!
