I am having thoughts of installing a ssd drive inside htc shift. Is this possible? Has anybody tried it or dissasembly htc shift?

i dont know that im brave enuf to kill my warranty. If the drives are the same size and same power consumption and have the same mounting points then it should be easy.

Those are very easy upgrades, does anyone know the part #s for the existing items?
We need a ghost of a prestine box, make sure one of the senior guys when they get their box to ghost is right away.
Well one thing for sure an extra gigabyte of ram would help.
But is does seems we need a very specific module to replace the RAM.
Any ideas where to buy such a module?

I had some trouble opening the link but now it seems to work.
The problems I see is that Qimonda is a producer of RAM chips, not a retailer/seller of modules.
And second they only list 1GB sets.
Third, where can we get our paws on a 2GB module?

I just located some 2GB DDR2 microDIMM RAM at 500 USD, the 1GB chips are 180 USD.
also we have to find out if the vista bios supports 2 GB DDR microDIMM, the bios they are running is very weak, i suppose we would have to get a new one of those too :/

Can you tell me where you found that 2GB DDR2 MicroDimm?
Ok that is a lot about RAM but how about a SSD?
I believe the BIOS should support 2 gigs. I asked the folks at HTC about this and they didn't indicate any issues beyond the challenge of opening the device and the fact that it does void the warranty.

The MSD-PATA3018-032-ZIF1 is an 8mm drive (height), so no, it won't fit. You want the MSD-PATA3018-032-ZIF2 which is 5mm in height.

The only difference betweem the ZIF1 and ZIF2 is the height. The ZIF2 (5mm) is being produced for regular orders by Mtron, so you will find this easily available (http://rocketdisk.com/index.php?cPath=15) but the ZIF1 (8mm) is only being produced for OEMs and other special situations.
There is no reason for it to be so cheap, other than good value

btw: I buyed yesterday a MSD-PATA3018-032-ZIF2 within Ebay. We will see how fast it is. But I think this is the fastest ATA-7 1,8" HDD on Market. Mtron announced a 64 and 128GB Version as well a few months ago, but I never see anything like this.. :-(
I do not understand why the Toshiba Tg01 uses so much more memory than my HTC Diamond with Windows Mobile 6.5.3 and Sense 2.1? Why does the Toshiba use so much more?
I think Toshiba is not suitable for Sense like HTC devices, RAM is still our mostly problem. Maybe Win 6.5.3 is more stable for Sense.
been thinking the same thing since i got the phone... can think of about 3 possibilities...
1)bad optimization in toshiba additions
2)the ram in locked out and shows up as used to make us buy their newer models...
3)the phone has actually less ram and and its ram information is faked...
but thats just me...
Memory Usage does not add up
I used Memaid to check the running processes and they added up to only 41 MB. If the total is 205.1 and the processes running are only 41 MB where is the other Program memory allocated to?

Filesystem mirrored from ROM to speed up the device. That's a common use on WM devices, but has some counter effects. With 100Mb free RAM, you have almost all you need, but with just 30Mb, things become a little more complicated. Toshiba setted up RAM in order to preload files and packages from the OS into the RAM. That's my thinks arround it. Maybe the true history is another one.
is the worst thing at tg01.
i bought a phone with 256MB ram not with 100MB. i expected a healthy 150Mb free not 60Mb.
I had no other bad experiences with it except bad quality with orange robot chick. The funny thing is that the Vodafone robot is (almost) crystal clear.
Anyone checked PagePool size ? It should be possible to free up more RAM

The size of Pagepool is 15Mb. Maybe we can set it to 6-8Mb, but would 7-9Mb be worth of it? :S
If we can find 2-3 methods to gain 7-9Mb, a 24Mb more free would be awsome. But just 7-9 won't make a true diference.
I've checked this myself but it looks odd to me when I see 15mb PP size... so it's not PP fault... When I'll have more time I will take a look into dumped rom maybe I'll find what takes so much memmory ...

I understand our TG01's constantly show a low amount of free Ram but can honestly say i have never experienced any slow downs or Programs shutting down on me. Since the last update with the Radio fix mine runs great it's fast responsive and i really have no issues since changing back to the Windows Classic lock even playing Music over Bluetooth in CorePlayer is perfect with no more annoying cut outs.
At one point i was going to replace my TG01 with a HD2 but since the last update and all the fixes it brought i just can't see this as being worthwhile. I even tried one of the new Roms with Sense 2.5 only to discover as much as i really like the Weather app in Sense i actually prefer SPB Mobile shell with the Espresso theme over Sense.
The TG01 may not be perfect after all what device is but for me now it gets pretty close, i still think the screen is if not the best one of the best out there. I also love the fact that even with a 4.1" screen it's only 9.9mm thin and not exactly heavy either it does all i want with ease my Music sounds great and my unconverted DivX files play and look stunning on it's screen as does Web browsing using Opera.
Having had the TG01 since launch i have been looking at an upgrade as have one due from VodaFone but honestly can't see anything that can replace my TG01 and offer anything more or better. Of course i wish we hadn't had any initial issues and the fixes would of come quicker but i still think the TG01 is a great device and one that hasn't really been surpassed yet.

Yes bro its OS is 32 bit. Since its processor are based on armv7. And it won't be a trouble as the chip inside is not that powerful.

al the latest moto G phones have 64 bit processor and 32 bit system... and the g5 plus is not an exception.

Bro snapdragon 625 is not a low end chip, it's powerful enough to run ur phone smooth, and it's based on armv8a and that makes it backward compatible to armv7....so this phone is supposed to run 64 bit os , but u knw moto

bcz i think to unify the system for all variants. g5 plus also has 2 and 3 gb ram varints. it must be something which moto has taken into account while pushing 32 bit. so i guess we are good here.lol

Please let me know where I have said SD625 a "low-end chipset". As far I know and own the device and went through several test it shows armv7 (SS attached).

You don't get the point. Even if it is a 64 bit SOC, rest of the hardware follows v7 architecture (as SD625 is backward compatible). So it impossible to run 64 bit OS on this device.
What about ram usability

4 GB is the maximum a 32 bit architecture can support. So yes, it's fully utilised

The physically addressable memory has not much to do with the "bitness" of the architecture. Most armv7a implementations support lpae (large physical address extension) and can thus address more than 4GB. Actually, I bet this extension is used on the 4GB variant as you also have I/O mapped into the physical address space and would be unable to utilize all of the RAM.
The 32 Bit architecture only confines the virtual address space *per process* to 4GB. Since some of that address space is used to map in shared objects (libraries), stack, kernel interfaces etc. you can usually only use 2-3 GB of RAM per process. This is hardly an issue for a phone (unless you run the Facebook app ). For servers (especially databases etc.) this limitation is an issue and the reason why 64 bit architectures are used there.
AArch64 has some other benefits, such as twice the amount of general purpose registers, 64 bit wide registers (obviously) which allow for 64 bit math, mandatory extensions (no need to check, compiler can just use NEON e.g.) etc. So it's sad that Motorola is not using the SoC's potential.
As for custom ROMs: You'd need a 64 bit kernel which supports the Moto's hardware, 64 bits gfx drivers. Not easy. And then you still need to hope that you can somehow convince the bootloader to boot your kernel in AArch64 state -- which may not be possible. Thus it is extremely unlikely that you get 64 bit support from the community.

Because there's effectively no point. The SD617 has a 32-bit width data bus- a 64-bit ROM would actually yield less performance.
Why do you want a 64-bit ROM anyway? There's absolutely nothing 32-bit Android has to offer over 64-bit Android absurdly high RAM amounts (which you'll never find in a budget phone).
Some software I wanna use is 64bit only.
And what would be "absurdly high"?
Because from what I know the advised ram for 64bit is 4gb.

No use of 64 bit unless RAM > 4 GB. Beyond 4GB is the point where 64 bit arch starts.
Moreover does moto even release 64 bit source? I heard something similar in the potter forum.

Actually 3.7gb (give it or take) is the limit of 32bit.
So any value over that is valid for 64bit
And to be fair the minimum ram for 64bit would be 2gb.

RAM consumption is huge on 64 bits system, take a look to the Nexus 5X... For an Android device running a 64 bits system you need at least 3 GB of RAM, and also, why do you want a 64 bits system if a 32 bits system offers better performance? The 64 bits system just has new type of instructions that are only for more complex calculations that not even the average user will use

In all seriousness, even if a 64-bit ROM were ported to the G4 the SD617 inside would struggle heavily.
You need at least an SD801 to run Dolphin anywhere near smoothly.

Hm I see.
Well, I've figured since it was to run some 2D title I would do fine.
Since I don't have a very powerful computer either (dual core i3 3217u) and it run said title at 60fps where other 3D games won't pass 10fps.
But that's expected I guess, I think it's time to move on.
