I haven't seen a thread on this yet, but what are the differences between the two? Both have a working market.
The dude's .08
+Teeter
+PDFviewer
+H build music widget
*H Build calendar widget
-possible mic issues
-possible sound level isues/bluetooth
-reported slowe
-more basic animations (fancier ones can be enabled with spareparts)
Haykuro 5.0.2G
+reported faster
+nicer animations
-calendar widget doesn't update unless phone/widget restarted
If anyone has anything comments/issues/advantages post them up so i can update this.
I downloaded The Dude's .08 before the market started working for Kaykuro builds, so I'd be interested in seeing this comparison as well. So far I have no reason to switch from The Dude's.
thedudes build seemed slower on my phone, about the same speed as JF rc33 and haykuros H build, while haykuros G build is like lightning on my phone. thedude had the same fade rotate animation but could use the fancy rotate animation from spareparts(which is my fave) but the home didn't autorotate. the dude also has the same calendar widget and music widget as the H build. The calendar widget in haykuro's G build doesn't actually update you have to either restart your phone or delete the widget and put a new one out, I didn't use thedudes long enough to know if its fixed in his

Not had any mic issues with my phone on dude's, nor any sound issues (can't vouch for bluetooth, I don't have anything that uses it). As for speed, I haven't used Haykuro's, so I have no idea if it's any faster (if it is, I doubt it's that much faster, dude's is plenty fast). I use the basic animations because the fancy ones annoy me, and they probably use more battery.
I just tried Haykuro's 5.0.2G build. It's not bad, but the market crashes on me when installing new apps. The Dude's .08 build isn't bad either, but I don't like the junk included with it (teeter, pdf reader etc.). It also seems to feel a little more 'unfinished' than Haykuro's builds (keyboard auto correction, etc.). I have noticed no difference in speed at all.
I'm going to try the latest H build now... Can't seem to find a build that really satisfies yet.

You can remove the stuff that you don't want. That's the beauty of having a rooted phone.

I personally have used Haykuro's G build until the Market broke. Then have switched to Dude's version. Honestly I have not experienced any issues with it. I can't say it's slower or faster than Haykuro's build. So unless there is something new added to Haykuro's G that Dude's version does not have, I'm sticking with it.
I went from JF's RC33 to The Dude's .08 and one of the first things I noticed was the volume level in The Dude was noticeably lower. Maxed out, the volume on JF and stock RC33 was like 50% louder than The Dude's .08 maxed out. I'm talking about ringtone/notification volumes that are produced from the onboard speaker, not in headphones.
Haven't downloaded Haykuro's builds yet so I can't compare that at the moment.
Haykuro ver will better than Dude ver. Haykuro ver have imaging interface, almost feature is good. Please check out my topic, you will be able make your H-build better. I like H build, It support 3d module. I see that G build lost this mudule.

Rather than going to different threads & posting the same thing, why not inform people how to add this to the g build?? Instead of "hey mine is better" & sticking your tongue out at us, why not just have one badass build with the best of both worlds?
oo the market werks now in haykuro lol, the dude build is fine not much problems, i think... i wonder if i should switch back.
Im on dude .8 and its cool everything works and it runs smooth. I used the Hakykuro 5.0.1g but market didnt work so i didnt use it for long but i guess i will have to try it again.
I've used both versions and haven't really noticed any speed difference. Only thing I've noticed is the dude's version is missing auto correct. Other than that both are pretty close. I guess Haykuro's is a little more finished but he has been working on it longer. Both are really nice and are getting close to perfect.

actually the auto correct works...
i think both of them are great builds im just wondering why neither one of them put in the voice search , i use that app all the time , anyone know how to add it in?
they both work well
I only used the Dude's build for about a day before the market issue sorted itself out for Haykuro's G build, but I found it perfectly fine as a daily driver generally speaking and enjoying some aspects of it quite a bit. I'm sure I didn't note all the differences, but these were the things that stood out to me:
The "fancy" animations can be enabled via Spare Parts, which might be nice for some, but I use dxTop and I found the fancy animations to be pretty slow and clumsy on my phone and turned them off.
PDF reader is very cool and something I plan to install on Haykruo's G build when I get around to it (assuming the directions I've seen for doing so work that is).
Teeter is cool IMHO but I think that can be installed on the G build too.
The keyboard auto-correct absence was not too bothersome to me since I've primarily been using the original HTC keyboard in funbacon's tutorial and it works good on both builds outside of Gmail itself, where I couldn't get the HTC vk to work in either case. It's not a big deal to switch back to the Android Keyboard if I want to tap out a Gmail one handed, but not ideal really. In those instances the G build is preferred due to the presence of auto-correct/suggest on the Android Keyboard.
The Dude's build supports the "three-fingered-salute" reboot option as well as Gscript or terminal reboots, which is a big plus for me since I'm rebooting my phone several times a day generally (I know, it's a little weird). Neither of these work on Haykuro's G build at the moment.
I didn't spend too much time playing with the camera and camcorder on the Dude's build, but the video playback seemed to still have problems and, although the very fancy camera and camcorder apps of Haykuro's H build are appealing, the basic G build camera seems to work fine for the most part.
I believe the new Forecast widget works on all three of the common 1.5 builds, but unfortunately not with dxTop.
I switched to Haykuro 5.0.2G for now as I perceive it to be faster/smoother overall, but it's possible I'm just more used to it. It's also possible that restoring data.img from the G build when I switched to Dude v8 caused some subtle compatibility/stability issues as well, so I'll probably flash Dudecake after a wipe and set up my phone (apps and settings) from scratch to get a better idea of how the OS performs overall.

I don't really understand what you are saying. The purppose of this thread is to discuss the G builds. Until H has the google keyboard in it I am gonna stay away. Are you saying the H has openGL and G is missing it? That would be good to know.
weird, 5.0G supported call-menu-end reboot, but 5.01Gr4 doesnt... Also every version of haykuro's G i've used has had the pdfviewer installed by default
i tried both and i'm sticking with haykuro's build for now.
Its faster than the dude's version for some reason even though the dude is using the latest code from the master branch.

Would it be worth jumping up to jF 1.51 ADP? I'm concerned about the speed, etc since right now the 1.5Hr3's speed is amazing. Also, what other features are available.
I am in the same situation.
Is there a better image out now? maybe with some ION stuff in it.
I find it very confusing trying to found out what is in each image.
I can't complain though, the 1.5Hr3 is sweet. Fast. Made me love my phone again.
Only thing I wondering if Haykuro, jF, Dude, etc use the same multi touch hack or has it improved. I find it to be sorta glitchy if you use two fingers from one hand, but if you use both your thumbs it works better. I wonder why?
EDIT:
As well, I'd like to throw this theme on.

Hello all,
For the life of me I cannot find the thread that got me started in this direction. Someone in the forums here was talking about how they switched to the default android home vs sense and it sped up the phone.
Well, I tried it for a few days and jesus christ is it fast. I'm not going to rant, but without sense ui, this sprint hero running modaco 1.3a is a completely different phone.
Anyway, this has brought me to one of the toughest decisions in my life. I LOVE the look of sense. We all know it is painfully beautiful, and the widgets are beyond perfect too.
I think I already know the answer to this, but I will ask anyway. Is there ANY way to get the HTC widgets to run on the stock android home, or does sense have to be running? I would kill for the the mail and calendar widgets back. Even if I had to buy them. I was unable to find anything as good in the market. Also, is there anyway to get more than 3 home screens without sense?
I am so torn between using a slow phone that is beautiful, or a plain phone that is quick. Form follows function right?
have you checked "beautiful widgets" in the market? they are made to resemble the htc widgets on non-sense phones, never looked at them myself though.
No, beautiful widgets are only the weatherclock and the switches WiFi,BT etc.
You can't use original sense widgets without sense. There's no way.
I've used Rosie remover. At start the Hero was very fast, but a few days later it was as slow as it was with sense.
Now I'm going with my sense again. The look and feel is awesome and the speed not much slower than without it.
I didn't use rosie remover, I might look into it. I just cleared the defaults on HTC Sense and chose "Home" as my default (and force closed sense). I don't see it starting itself back up again but I will play more close attention to it.
I am kind of curious if there is anything you did after using rosie remover to make it slow. My phone isn't just slightly faster without sense, it is a different beast. I used to scroll through any list on my hero and it would move at a very low framerate and it was REALLY choppy. Since killing sense it is smooth as silk.
I tried everything too. I read the articles about NOT killing apps, I tried killing apps too, I tried installing several class 6 cards, I did all the location fixes and even got rid of anything that wasn't crucial (including widgets i never used). Oh, and also I tried almost every rom. Nothing made it more than just "ok".
Killed sense and other than missing the widgets, it is super fast. The keyboard even rotates about 2 whole seconds faster.
Any suggestions, maybe I did something wrong or am forgetting something. Modaco 1.3a with default android home for a week now and it hasn't even started to slow down. (Not sure why it even would.)

ok thanks for clearing this up. i thought something like this, but on modaco's page it still says 1.1 is the latest (i actually looked it up before accusing you of typos! ), so this got me confused...
I do that stuff all the time; thinking people are crazy talking about some rom or radio and then I remember that the gsm and cdma heros are completely different in terms of development timeline.
So I think I am going to do this (god i wish there was a benchmark). I am going to run the stock android home for a while and completely remove rosie. I keep hearing that it starts up on its own in the background and I know you can run both at the same time.
Actually, I am running both right now and even with sense running in the background, while I use the android home it is still faster.
It almost feels like my hero is not fast enough for sense. Any suggestions? Maybe I will try the new Fresh 1.1. I had fresh 1.0 and i didnt like it. A lot of force close errors and just felt really "Hot Topic" if anyone catches my drift.
Anyway, we will see. If anyone has suggestions on speeding up sense I would love to hear it. It is almost impossible and USELESS to scroll through my contact list using sense because it is so skippy.

Then there may be a problem with your phone (or you have many thousand contacts!).
I have a UK (GSM) Hero running stock ROM and sense. My contact list scrolls smoothly - I have probably 250 or so on there and I can give it a flick and watch them speed smoothly by until I get to the one I want when I can stop it with my finger.
Yep, not me. Running the stock rom (and a few modified roms) I was unable to get my contact list to scroll smoothly at all. I think I will make a video of it to see if anyone else can compare.

Would be worth using the dedicated cdma users forum to ask other cdma phone users whether they have the same problem. My phone is GSM and that might make a difference (although I doubt it). And my son also has a (GSM) Hero and his scrolls well too.

im running fresh 1.1 and loving it but i may want to try a 1.6 rom...just something to play with until android 2.1 comes in march. which one would you guys recommend? im looking for speed, almost no crashes and pretty much everything works, oh yeah looks are important too.
Far as I know there's only two. Both pretty much Vanilla. Neither has BT. Neither will send an SMS for some handsets.
Try them both.
There are only two 1.6 ROMS, quietcblongs and gbhil. Both are basically the same, as gbhil just takes the "core" of quietcblongs 1.6 and makes some tweaks here and there. Either one has the same stuff working, just keep in mind quietcblongs intention is to have a clean 1.6 AOSP ROM and gbhil has put in some eclair icons and some other aesthetically appealing stuff. Read their threads to find out what's working and what's not, basically bluetooth is a no go, some people have sms issues, no visual voicemail (although MMS was resolved on the last update and that may make the visual voicemail work).
Read on..
Well, fchipm beat me to the punch and offered a recap of my post LOL
Actually gbhil's & quiet's don't have the same working things. gbhil's AOSP is still based off of quiet's 12.31.09 build, so gbhil's speakerphone, BT & MMS don't work. In quiet's latest build, he fixed the speakerphone & MMS, but in turn broke headphones.
Use quiets. It's being actively developed. Mine was just a proof of concept that I used as a testbed to see what I can and can not do while cooking a ROM for the Hero. I keep trying to say that, but it keeps falling on deaf ears

No it doesn't... that's the only downside. But I can live without my camera, since all I use it for is taking pictures of ridiculous things I find and putting them on Facebook. If the camera is a deal-breaker, then definitely use 1.6 (if SMS works for you... hopefully it will).

The other thread has made me increasingly mental trying to find some decent information on what is working and what isn't working for SGS users upgrading to 2.3.2. I upgraded on Sunday evening without any issues and have been using it for the past 48hrs and have come across the following:
bad:
- no sip configuration options
- when integrated with MS exchange server, the unread count for emails never changes even after you read the mail
- default internet browser is horrifically slow, even with no other apps running in the background
- no samsung apps available (probably because this isn't an official samsung release)
good:
- android market works fine for me in Switzerland
- GPS works well with all the different apps i have
- wifi is interesting. it works, but i don't get full signal strength notification even when next to the access point
- FM radio, the most used app i have continues to work nicely
Overall I have been pleasantly surprised with this version. It's nice, although it's not an official release and is still leagues better than 2.1.x and 2.2. Would get a good argument from me about how it compares with 2.2.1..

Well, for me, I am not downloading torrents on my phone. When I want to download, via wifi, apps from the market or something with dropbox, the wifi isn't not letting me down. I think there's a disconnect between what the graphic is reporting and the actual level.
It's good because it still works and is functional and allows me to keep using this on a daily basis despite its status.

i got it running for a few hours and i generally enjoyed it, but the keyboard has no bulgarian (well it have in the options but it does not work) and if you run out of ram you are screwed (the phone hangs or gets tooo slow ).
as said samsung apps doesn`t work and the gallery freezes very often...
i hate that samsung removed the fancy animations and the black menu bar....

1-3D performance
It's not as good as it was on 2.2.1. If you test some 3D games like NFS Shift, you culd see that it doesnt run so well as it did on 2.2.1
Some people even reports that they can’t even run lot of 3D games.
2-GPS
There are reports of a good gps performance, but I have read somewhere that it's contanstly throwing some kind of errors or bugs, I don't know how to check that. I guess they know it thanks to logcat or something like that.
According to what I could read on another forum they changed lot of gps files nad not is very similar to the ones of Nexus S, that's a good thing...
3-Keyboard
It’s also a shame that they didn’t include gingerboard keyboard…
PS: Some people might think that this thread isn’t useful, but as we are being kind of betatesters for Samsung it would be nice if we use this post only to report the most common bugs founds, so maybe Samsung could have a look at it and solve it faster.

Same here, it was so slow till i had to restart my i9000.
I've been using it for the last two days now (one of them with Supercurio's Voodoo Hack) and I've been happy with it in some parts, but quite unhappy in others.
Lag:
First of all, it seems the "Lag" that was fixed in 2.2.1 is back. Especially with memory-Hungry applications like the Browser, the phone tends to just freeze up for a few minutes without really doing much. I even had to pull the battery one time. This does happen less with the voodoo-fix, but it's still noticeable. Flash also does barely work.
Gingerbread features:
The new Gyroscope-Driver seems to work and it works really well. Skymap and Starchart both looked a LOT better when using them, no fidgeting around all the time anymore.
The new Gingerbread animations are NOT present in this rom. It seems like Samsung thinks they don't fit into TouchWiz, which is a shame. So no glowing edges when overscrolling and no screen-off or screen-on animation.
3D Performance pretty much seems to be the same as on 2.2.1 Games load a little slower, but I think that's mostly because we're using an un-optimized kernel.
The Bluetooth-Driver unfortunately still is the same as in Previous versions. So Neither Wiiremote nor PS3 will pair with the SGS, unlike on Cyanogenmod.
Samsung-Stuff:
As was stated before, Swype does not work. However, I am in the Swype beta and was able to install the Beta of Swype into this rom after deleting the normal swype with root explorer. It works fine, even Voice input does work.
All in all, it is clear that this is beta-firmware and it doesn't really offer much in terms of improvement over 2.2.1, at least not yet. Cyanogenmod 7, even tho it supports less hardware and is more unstable, runs a LOT faster and smoother than this, is more customizable and uses more of the new Gingerbread features.
For now, I'll be going back to 2.2.1, it's more useful as a daily driver, but this at least looks promising so far.
Reverting back to 2.2.1. 2.3.2 is way too slow.
Well considering this is a beta it seems alot of the features that are suppose to be in the final build are here left out. That will give the reason for quite some things missing ( some animations, effects, lock screens, keyboards....) Plus also cause of the beta build maybe even alpha who knows, the performance for me is really bad, it feels twice as laggy compared to the 2.2.1 releases. All in all this build is an striped down, not optimized build for the samsung devs i guess. We will have to wait for a better build leak. Cheers !

Well guys, I don't honestly know what to think about the new OTA. I tried it but wasn't overly impressed with it. However the speed and battery life is kinda nice. I still feel like it is lacking some features that a GB update should have had and I also feel VZW and HTC rushed this one. What do yall think?
Good Base For Future Mods
I suspect that the OTA will be a good base for future mods. I like it, but some of the features that I take for granted after using CM7 are missing.
I ran the leak for a while, I really liked it because of speed, but I can't believe they took mobile network, airplane and silent mode out of the power menu.

Thats a good point. I love CM myself, been a long time fan.
I've been using the rooted leak version for about 24 hours now, moving from an EVO based mod. The new one is definitely zippier, even on scrolling, etc. I'll keep using it, but looking forward to new custom builds once the source is out and modders get their hands on this kernel.
Well, this wasn't supposed to be as big a thing compared to when FroYo was released. Expectations of that magnitude for this release were not realistic.
Differences aren't visual per se, rather just a few functional ones.
All in all, gingerbread, meh.....

Feels unfinished. What I mean is some things are not what i expected. For example, i use google talk alot and with Froyo, the icon in the bar was a Sense based one. Now it's just Google Talk. This is fine, but i have to ask - was this on purpose? or a slip up?
next, I don't like NOT being able to disable ALL animations. In froyo, i could turn off the clock animations, weather ones and even the OS ones. I like that. In this one, I can't... only OS.
I have a had a few FC's with google voice setup (cleared up once configured) and Scrabble rarely notifies me of a move, but those could be app related.
battery life remains to be seen since I need to charge my phone all the way up while powered off.
it's definitely quick, but it took like 5 minutes before I started missing Synergy. Looking forward to seeing what can be done with the update.
It's a nice temporary fix for my ocd rom flashing but i think devs and most others are waiting for the final ota with some bug fixes. Isn't this lacking the new radio as well? Otherwise I am really happy it looks like they fixed the low space /data/data notification.
If we are lucky the devs will pump out some amazing roms for us that are stable and fast. Just gimme pulldown widgets, 5-row apps, recent apps in notification, and remapped rosie buttons and i'm set!

The ones posted in this forum are missing the radio but that is because the source that gave it to our devs asked that they not include the radio when they compiled and uploaded the rom. For what reason? Who knows....
I think the update should've added sense 2.1..
I miss power toggle pull downs and right rosie, but other than that, everything for me just works and works fast. If someone can add some 2.1 features, that would be nice. Been on this since it came out, zero issues, zero lag. I use my phone for business with some music, dont install more than zbout 4 apps. Everything flies. Look at it this way, if no other roms could ever have been ported over, is this a good update from when you first got your dinc? I say hell yes. The ports are great, im not baggin cause ive flashed every rom here, but this was made for our phone. Could it have had 2.1, sure, would it have worked as good, i doubt it. All ports have some issues, all be it very minor, but they also develop lag and more issues the longer you use them. Im willin to wait a week and see what happens, im sure we will see a different ota eventally, fat lady aint singin yet.
curious about battery life
I've been using miui and have been getting good battery life. I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the new ginger
All I could think about was how ridiculously fast Sense 1.0 would be on any Gingerbread ROM.
If i were a dev I would definitely be cooking up a clean, streamlined, unbelievably fast Sense 1.0 ROM for users who don't need what 2.0, 2.1 and 3.0 have to offer.
That being said, as far as the OTA goes... We'll see?
I like the speed of this OTA, too. It's very snappy. But I'm having a problem with voice input recognizing speech. Is this a problem for anyone else?
I was using bluetooth and I said open calender and it would randomly pick a number to call from my contacts.

It's a problem with GB in general. Try using voice search while driving and you can scream in the mic until you're blue in the face. It won't recognize anything you say.
Is that just for GB Sense based roms? I have never had a problem with voice input on CM7.

It might be a combo of things. All I know is it worked perfectly for me on Froyo.

It was fun to try it out and it's fast, but I went back to Community RC5. I won't be looking back, im sure OVO will rip whatever is good and stick it in community.
