I haven't seen a thread on this yet, but what are the differences between the two? Both have a working market.
The dude's .08
+Teeter
+PDFviewer
+H build music widget
*H Build calendar widget
-possible mic issues
-possible sound level isues/bluetooth
-reported slowe
-more basic animations (fancier ones can be enabled with spareparts)
Haykuro 5.0.2G
+reported faster
+nicer animations
-calendar widget doesn't update unless phone/widget restarted
If anyone has anything comments/issues/advantages post them up so i can update this.
I downloaded The Dude's .08 before the market started working for Kaykuro builds, so I'd be interested in seeing this comparison as well. So far I have no reason to switch from The Dude's.
thedudes build seemed slower on my phone, about the same speed as JF rc33 and haykuros H build, while haykuros G build is like lightning on my phone. thedude had the same fade rotate animation but could use the fancy rotate animation from spareparts(which is my fave) but the home didn't autorotate. the dude also has the same calendar widget and music widget as the H build. The calendar widget in haykuro's G build doesn't actually update you have to either restart your phone or delete the widget and put a new one out, I didn't use thedudes long enough to know if its fixed in his

Not had any mic issues with my phone on dude's, nor any sound issues (can't vouch for bluetooth, I don't have anything that uses it). As for speed, I haven't used Haykuro's, so I have no idea if it's any faster (if it is, I doubt it's that much faster, dude's is plenty fast). I use the basic animations because the fancy ones annoy me, and they probably use more battery.
I just tried Haykuro's 5.0.2G build. It's not bad, but the market crashes on me when installing new apps. The Dude's .08 build isn't bad either, but I don't like the junk included with it (teeter, pdf reader etc.). It also seems to feel a little more 'unfinished' than Haykuro's builds (keyboard auto correction, etc.). I have noticed no difference in speed at all.
I'm going to try the latest H build now... Can't seem to find a build that really satisfies yet.

You can remove the stuff that you don't want. That's the beauty of having a rooted phone.

I personally have used Haykuro's G build until the Market broke. Then have switched to Dude's version. Honestly I have not experienced any issues with it. I can't say it's slower or faster than Haykuro's build. So unless there is something new added to Haykuro's G that Dude's version does not have, I'm sticking with it.
I went from JF's RC33 to The Dude's .08 and one of the first things I noticed was the volume level in The Dude was noticeably lower. Maxed out, the volume on JF and stock RC33 was like 50% louder than The Dude's .08 maxed out. I'm talking about ringtone/notification volumes that are produced from the onboard speaker, not in headphones.
Haven't downloaded Haykuro's builds yet so I can't compare that at the moment.
Haykuro ver will better than Dude ver. Haykuro ver have imaging interface, almost feature is good. Please check out my topic, you will be able make your H-build better. I like H build, It support 3d module. I see that G build lost this mudule.

Rather than going to different threads & posting the same thing, why not inform people how to add this to the g build?? Instead of "hey mine is better" & sticking your tongue out at us, why not just have one badass build with the best of both worlds?
oo the market werks now in haykuro lol, the dude build is fine not much problems, i think... i wonder if i should switch back.
Im on dude .8 and its cool everything works and it runs smooth. I used the Hakykuro 5.0.1g but market didnt work so i didnt use it for long but i guess i will have to try it again.
I've used both versions and haven't really noticed any speed difference. Only thing I've noticed is the dude's version is missing auto correct. Other than that both are pretty close. I guess Haykuro's is a little more finished but he has been working on it longer. Both are really nice and are getting close to perfect.

actually the auto correct works...
i think both of them are great builds im just wondering why neither one of them put in the voice search , i use that app all the time , anyone know how to add it in?
they both work well
I only used the Dude's build for about a day before the market issue sorted itself out for Haykuro's G build, but I found it perfectly fine as a daily driver generally speaking and enjoying some aspects of it quite a bit. I'm sure I didn't note all the differences, but these were the things that stood out to me:
The "fancy" animations can be enabled via Spare Parts, which might be nice for some, but I use dxTop and I found the fancy animations to be pretty slow and clumsy on my phone and turned them off.
PDF reader is very cool and something I plan to install on Haykruo's G build when I get around to it (assuming the directions I've seen for doing so work that is).
Teeter is cool IMHO but I think that can be installed on the G build too.
The keyboard auto-correct absence was not too bothersome to me since I've primarily been using the original HTC keyboard in funbacon's tutorial and it works good on both builds outside of Gmail itself, where I couldn't get the HTC vk to work in either case. It's not a big deal to switch back to the Android Keyboard if I want to tap out a Gmail one handed, but not ideal really. In those instances the G build is preferred due to the presence of auto-correct/suggest on the Android Keyboard.
The Dude's build supports the "three-fingered-salute" reboot option as well as Gscript or terminal reboots, which is a big plus for me since I'm rebooting my phone several times a day generally (I know, it's a little weird). Neither of these work on Haykuro's G build at the moment.
I didn't spend too much time playing with the camera and camcorder on the Dude's build, but the video playback seemed to still have problems and, although the very fancy camera and camcorder apps of Haykuro's H build are appealing, the basic G build camera seems to work fine for the most part.
I believe the new Forecast widget works on all three of the common 1.5 builds, but unfortunately not with dxTop.
I switched to Haykuro 5.0.2G for now as I perceive it to be faster/smoother overall, but it's possible I'm just more used to it. It's also possible that restoring data.img from the G build when I switched to Dude v8 caused some subtle compatibility/stability issues as well, so I'll probably flash Dudecake after a wipe and set up my phone (apps and settings) from scratch to get a better idea of how the OS performs overall.

I don't really understand what you are saying. The purppose of this thread is to discuss the G builds. Until H has the google keyboard in it I am gonna stay away. Are you saying the H has openGL and G is missing it? That would be good to know.
weird, 5.0G supported call-menu-end reboot, but 5.01Gr4 doesnt... Also every version of haykuro's G i've used has had the pdfviewer installed by default
i tried both and i'm sticking with haykuro's build for now.
Its faster than the dude's version for some reason even though the dude is using the latest code from the master branch.
I've done a handful of searches in both this general forum and the Hero CDMA dev forum, and I'd really like to hear your opinions as to which is the most workable, viable VANILLA Android 2.1 ROM available for the Hero.
Background: I'm currently on the Fresh 2.1.2 ROM, coming from the installation of the Fresh 2.1 ROM from a couple weeks ago, and from the Fresh 2.0d ROM two months before that. I'm a total stability whore -- I silently trolled these forums for weeks before deciding to root and install a Fresh ROM a couple months ago. I've stuck exclusively to Flipz' Fresh ROMs, as they're fast and I've had ZERO issues with them, and it's hard to give that up. And yet, my wife just got a Moto Droid this week and after playing with stock vanilla Android 2.1, I find myself somehow attracted to that spartan interface. Sure, I can boot into Launcher Pro on Fresh 2.1.2, and my *launcher* will be vanilla-ish, but it will continue to take me to the underlying HTC Sense apps (messaging, music, etc.).
My thoughts: I like the look and idea of DarchVanilla ROM, but that author has no immediate plans to update it and it has a few small remaining issues. I'm starting to fall hard for the look of and rationale behind Konikub's new PureHero 2.x ROM, and may load that one up this week. My only hesitation there is that it's built off of the Damage base. Nothing wrong with that, Damage does awesome work (I've read and heard) just as Flipz does, but I've never tried a Damage ROM and am loathe to give up the fast, stable Fresh ROM experience for "undiscovered country." Gotta say, though, that Konikub's tweaks in PureHero have got me standing with one foot over the abyss, ready to tumble in...
Any recommendations? Vanilla-ish ROM user experiences? General advice? Care to talk me into staying in the HTC Sense world? Let me hear it all. And thanks in advance for sharing...
I use both sense and vanilla because i am torn in between. Ultimately i end up using Sense with Vanilla apps like sense with vanilla music apk and i come up with a twisted mix of the two.
If you twisted my arm about it i would have to go with sense because it has more flare.

If you want a real Vanilla Rom, Aosp experience, Just Roll with Darchdroid 2.6 it doesnt get any better that As for Sense DamageControl or fressshhhh
The only real taste of vanilla you're gonna get on the Hero is DarchDroid. It's not perfect, but it's getting there and Darch is actively working on it.
I agree with ^^^
If you like the vanilla experience, then you are doing yourself a disservice by not at least trying darchdroid 2.6.2. My setup is DD 2.6.2 with the zeam. 1.3.3 launcher. It looks like the espresso launcher, but much improved. It works well with 360 degree. rotation, the middle button launches app tray (either normal slider style, or launcher2 style), and the side buttons can easily be configured almost any way you want- from launching the browser or the phone to opening contacts or settings. With overclock and jit, I have no noticeable lag. Oh yeah! And you can pick anywhere from 3 to 9 screens or any number in-between! It will even let you select which screen you want to be your homescreen.
LOL, if you can't tell, I really love this combo!
I must agree that DarchDroid 2.62 is definitely the way to go. I am using it with the Launcher Pro Beta and love the clean look of AOSP. It doesn't get more basic and clean than my homescreen. The launcher has phone, contacts, apps, messaging and internet built in. I also applied the theme from Magnus - KKD_MOD v3.2 to add some extra features behind the scenes
sushi rom, ice rom pure hero are awesome prollly the best roms you could get stripped of sense besides a full asop, and so is darchdroid, i flashed darchdroid about 4 days ago and i pulled the livewallpapers and this rom is easily my fav rom ever. Reason being is because i am a huge asop fan. darchdroid is fast and i mean fast, like the guy above said darch is actively working to fix the issues but its so good its bearable. did i spell that right. Only problem with this one to me is the battery issue. something drains the battery pretty quick full charge will only get you about half a day but bring your car charger and its worth it. sorry if my words seem jumbled i just woke up.
Thanks, y'all!
I really appreciate all of the timely input -- I've got both the PureHero and now the latest DarchDroid ROMs on my SD card and will probably pull the trigger on DarchDroid in the next day or two.
My ONLY gripe there is that I use my Hero's camera. A lot. I know we've all been spoiled with the inclusion of cameras in our phones for too many years to remember, but does anyone find that DarchDroid's lack of camera functionality to be a non-starter for them?
Dude, LOVE the golf ball wallpaper on this!
the new darchdroid does have working camera, but a battery drain problem. if you can go about 6 hours between charges its good, works great. (read awesome)
i downgraded back to v2.5.x because i don't use the camera.
he said he was planning on uploading 2.6.3 tonight so you may wait around for that, should fix the battery issue.

The camera has been fixed since the upgrade to the .29 kernel which came with Darchdroid 2.6. Currently the only main issues with 2.6.2 is the video side of the camera isn't working & the battery drain.
The new Darch says it doesn't receive MMS. Does that mean the default app won't receive MMS and I can use Handcent for that; or the phone just won't receive any MMS's period?
Well ya that too, if someone sends you an MMS, you just receive a link to view it instead actually viewing it in the Messaging app.
IMHO

Vanilla is definitely the way to go man. While I haven't tried DarchDriod yet, I will say my vote is for Ic3Rom. It's been my daily ROM for well over a month and it's stable and fast and Mdawg112 is great about keeping it updated. Check it out - it's been great for me.
On a separate note, once you choose a ROM, try this launcher. I absolutely love it.

dirkydirk23, are those the exact names of the files you pulled? And how exactly DID you pull them? I vaguely recall doing so by way of the SDK at the computer desktop on Fresh 2.0d a month or so ago but I've forgotten since then. I've been on DarchDroid2.6.2 for the past few hours and it's exactly what I'm looking for, but that 3D Gallery has GOT to go. Too slow and it's a usability nightmare.
One other issue while I'm at it -- any ideas how to get back Sprint's Visual Voicemail, or at least to configure the regular voice mail number in the dialer?

dude i know what you mean once i pulled them it was way better, ok i the exact names of the files i pulled were LiveWallpapers.apk and LiveWallpapersPicker.apk and gallery 3d.apk this is how you do it, have your phone connected via usb in this exact order just copy and paste.
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cd /system/app
ls
after they all pull up just type in
rm LiveWallpapers.apk or whatever it says just like that make sure you put rm and it will remove it, fyi dont remove anything you dont know what its for or you will screw up something. fyi you have to type them how they are shown like if its a capitalized L there has to be one, its very case sensitive when removing them.
and if you look at the first post in the darchdroid thread he put the voicemail app as a download, you can download it and use a file explorer like astro or estrongs to install it i believe, i know for sure he posted it back.
Well guys, I don't honestly know what to think about the new OTA. I tried it but wasn't overly impressed with it. However the speed and battery life is kinda nice. I still feel like it is lacking some features that a GB update should have had and I also feel VZW and HTC rushed this one. What do yall think?
Good Base For Future Mods
I suspect that the OTA will be a good base for future mods. I like it, but some of the features that I take for granted after using CM7 are missing.
I ran the leak for a while, I really liked it because of speed, but I can't believe they took mobile network, airplane and silent mode out of the power menu.

Thats a good point. I love CM myself, been a long time fan.
I've been using the rooted leak version for about 24 hours now, moving from an EVO based mod. The new one is definitely zippier, even on scrolling, etc. I'll keep using it, but looking forward to new custom builds once the source is out and modders get their hands on this kernel.
Well, this wasn't supposed to be as big a thing compared to when FroYo was released. Expectations of that magnitude for this release were not realistic.
Differences aren't visual per se, rather just a few functional ones.
All in all, gingerbread, meh.....
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App
For me, it's a few things.
Feels unfinished. What I mean is some things are not what i expected. For example, i use google talk alot and with Froyo, the icon in the bar was a Sense based one. Now it's just Google Talk. This is fine, but i have to ask - was this on purpose? or a slip up?
next, I don't like NOT being able to disable ALL animations. In froyo, i could turn off the clock animations, weather ones and even the OS ones. I like that. In this one, I can't... only OS.
I have a had a few FC's with google voice setup (cleared up once configured) and Scrabble rarely notifies me of a move, but those could be app related.
battery life remains to be seen since I need to charge my phone all the way up while powered off.
it's definitely quick, but it took like 5 minutes before I started missing Synergy. Looking forward to seeing what can be done with the update.
It's a nice temporary fix for my ocd rom flashing but i think devs and most others are waiting for the final ota with some bug fixes. Isn't this lacking the new radio as well? Otherwise I am really happy it looks like they fixed the low space /data/data notification.
If we are lucky the devs will pump out some amazing roms for us that are stable and fast. Just gimme pulldown widgets, 5-row apps, recent apps in notification, and remapped rosie buttons and i'm set!

The ones posted in this forum are missing the radio but that is because the source that gave it to our devs asked that they not include the radio when they compiled and uploaded the rom. For what reason? Who knows....
I think the update should've added sense 2.1..
I miss power toggle pull downs and right rosie, but other than that, everything for me just works and works fast. If someone can add some 2.1 features, that would be nice. Been on this since it came out, zero issues, zero lag. I use my phone for business with some music, dont install more than zbout 4 apps. Everything flies. Look at it this way, if no other roms could ever have been ported over, is this a good update from when you first got your dinc? I say hell yes. The ports are great, im not baggin cause ive flashed every rom here, but this was made for our phone. Could it have had 2.1, sure, would it have worked as good, i doubt it. All ports have some issues, all be it very minor, but they also develop lag and more issues the longer you use them. Im willin to wait a week and see what happens, im sure we will see a different ota eventally, fat lady aint singin yet.
curious about battery life
I've been using miui and have been getting good battery life. I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the new ginger
All I could think about was how ridiculously fast Sense 1.0 would be on any Gingerbread ROM.
If i were a dev I would definitely be cooking up a clean, streamlined, unbelievably fast Sense 1.0 ROM for users who don't need what 2.0, 2.1 and 3.0 have to offer.
That being said, as far as the OTA goes... We'll see?
I like the speed of this OTA, too. It's very snappy. But I'm having a problem with voice input recognizing speech. Is this a problem for anyone else?
I was using bluetooth and I said open calender and it would randomly pick a number to call from my contacts.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
It's a problem with GB in general. Try using voice search while driving and you can scream in the mic until you're blue in the face. It won't recognize anything you say.
Is that just for GB Sense based roms? I have never had a problem with voice input on CM7.

It might be a combo of things. All I know is it worked perfectly for me on Froyo.
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=4399393a95831baa&hl=en
It was fun to try it out and it's fast, but I went back to Community RC5. I won't be looking back, im sure OVO will rip whatever is good and stick it in community.
Hey guys,
I'm more of an HTC person and I'm trying to help out my boyfriend w/his Moto Droid Pro. The thing is the biggest POS and we're pretty close to doing an insurance replacement on it.
It's NOT rooted, he's not really a fan of messing w/the phone like I am but what I did for him last night was a factory data reset, wiped that sucker clean and now the phone is still painfully slow, his market is working but is slow and any app he downloads either says "loading" forever, or just does an immediate FC.
I told him that if the reset didn't fix it, we'd try rooting it, but I'm not even sure how the development is for this phone and if it would be fixed by that anyway.
Prior to me resetting the whole thing it would freeze all the time, he'd have to do a battery pull a few times a day, etc. He's ready to check the thing out the window (and I don't blame him -- I told him not to get a moto, lol).
He's running the 2.2 software and it says that no update is available for the phone.
What he likes about it is the keyboard style w/the touchscreen. He's not a huge fan of virtual keyboards and I think a slider style would annoy the sh*t out of him after a while too.
Anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks.
Hi
Hi,
All I can suggest is root and debloat. My phone was the same way It's not fast enough for the rom MOTO put on it.
You can find ways to upgrade to GB if you search around, or buy the TBH app, but that requires rooting.
What I did is go to droidforums, and install CM7 on mine. Be warned, it's still pretty hairy... some data issues... but it's really close to a stable mod. Now that I have CM on it, I don't mind the phone at all.
BE WARNED!!! If you go the CM route, DON'T, I repeat DON'T let the phone die (battery wise). You lose data and getting back is a pain. Next build or so should fix that.

Which method did you use to root yours? I've seen mention of Z4 but all the info/questions, etc., on it seem to be a bit dated. I've also seen mention of a couple different one-click methods which would be my preferred method vs going the ADB line by line route I had to do w/my TBolt.
I'm guessing, just like any other phone it can be rooted and the stock ROM left on it? It'll just be that I'll be able to install TiB and freeze crap apps?
EDIT: Based on what I learned today (ie, time wasting at work, lol) I think I'm going to apply the OTA update that I've found online and at least get non-rooted GBread up and running. From there I'll use the one click method to root the phone, get TiB and freeze some stuff. Hopefully that will fix his phone. He's so frustrated.
Q for you too - if the phone is "not fast enough for the ROM Moto put on it" (as you said) won't putting a faster, better s/ware make it lag even more? Isn't stock GBread a faster ROM than the stock Froyo?

From there I'll use the one click method to root the phone, get TiB and freeze some stuff. Hopefully that will fix his phone. He's so frustrated.
Q for you too - if the phone is "not fast enough for the ROM Moto put on it" (as you said) won't putting a faster, better s/ware make it lag even more? Isn't stock GBread a faster ROM than the stock Froyo?

Based on your edit, sounds like you now know what to do, so you should be pretty well off.
To answer your question, no. GB and Froyo are very different. Even though they might look somewhat similar, GB actually has a lot of code clean up, and optimization. Theoretically, i guess it should run a little slower then Froyo, but what I think happened with the Pro is that the Froyo build has a ton more Blur(****) (read: pun) installed on it, and it's poorly coded (by Moto) so it uses up too many resources. I think the GB scaled back Blur a lot, and I think it's better coded and optimized, which actually makes the phone faster. Nowhere near as fast as CM7, but it's not bad.
The phone specs themselves aren't bad: 1GHz, and 5XX Ram, so I think on Froyo the Moto Blur crap took too much RAM up, whereas in GB it's a little better on the resources.
Hope that helps.
P.S. Shout out to a chic that digs "geek". We need more of your type

Thanks for the input the GB/Froyo differences explains a lot and the shout-out .... I've been trying to tell my BF how much better my phone (the TBolt) runs, even when I rooted the Eris it was sooo much better (thanks to Tazz!), but he always picked on me for the little things, if there were some glitch w/the new s/ware, etc.
Now, I'm hoping that doing the GBread install will open his eyes to the fact that folks around these parts do, for the most part, know what they are doing -and- he can belong to a special club now, the one that includes folks who have **** on their phone that their not supposed to lol
I'll start small, w/the official OTA leak and go from there .... baby steps lol.
Well, I put GB on his phone last night (was soooo easy to do), seems to be running a bit better, but we'll see what a full day makes of it.
chimpsnest did you use a tutorial to get GB on it? If so which one?
Also, I know I can probably search and find pretty quickly. But when going from Froyo to GB will I loose all my data/programs and such?
Thanks,
PEZ
Good Morning,
I used the method found here:
http://www.androidtotal.com/manually-download-install-android-2.3.3-update-motorola-droid-pro/
YOU WILL LOSE ROOT IF YOU HAVE IT, however, there is a way to now root GBread on the Dpro as far as I know.
As far as data, apps, etc., etc., I'm not certain as I had totally wiped my BF's phone back to be like the day he got it (factory reset) as a first resort when his started tweaking out. His phone has never been rooted, but I think I'm going to do that for him this weekend as he seems to be having the issue w/the keypad backlight and the only app to fix it is for rooted phones
The file you need to put on your Dpro is called "update.zip" - that's the file you need to put on your SD card. That file is in a folder in the file you download, you have to unzip the download file to find the zip.
Also, I kind of doubt you'll lose all your data as this is a VZW piece of software and I don't think they'd make everybody lose their everything via an OTA update, right?
I have Droid X, running stock .621, rooted.
I just got my wife an HTC One S, running ICS and I'm jealous.
Right now, I'm just waiting out the days until Verizon offers something worth using my upgrade on. Looks like that's still going to be at least a couple of months away.
In the meantime, I'd like to breathe some fresh life into my DX, but I don't want something buggy.
I need working GPS, Camera (video would be nice too), phone functions. I'd like to be able to install Swype. I'd like flash to work. Working bluetooth would would be nice. Maybe I could live without some stuff, but at least I'd like to know what I'd be getting into before I install something.
I don't care about (or even really want) themes, different fonts, additional lock screens, funky notification bar icons or anything like that. I'd be perfectly happy with stock ICS, if it wasn't buggy.
Does something like that even exist or because there's no official ICS for the DX, there are always going to be some major bugs/issues?
If there's something worth trying, I'll be happy to give it a go. I understand that I'll have to do a data wipe, what's the best way to restore my data after a ROM update? Do I just back up user apps and user app data with Titanium before the update and then just restore all of that after or is there a better/safer/easier way to migrate ROMs?
I do already have CWM installed, so, I think, I just have to boot up, get into the CWM menu and do the data/cache wipe and then load the ROM zip file to upgrade ROM, right? At least that's the general directions? Once I figure out exactly which ROM, if any, I'll ask for further help so that I don't screw it up.
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
I've been pretty happy with CM9 for the DX

Got some help in another forum last night and wound up installing Gummy ICS. I really screwed up the process and wound up having to SBF, but it was a good learning experience.
I'm truly stunned as to how much more responsive the phone is as compared to GB Stock. We'll see if it stays that way, but, right now, I'm thrilled.
Few little annoyances here and there, but my goal really was just to add a little live to an aging phone and give me a refreshed toy to hold me over until an acceptable upgrade phone becomes available.

Since I'm in the exact same situation as you regarding ROM choice, can you tell me if you are happy with Gummy ICS?
I like functionality and speed.

Not really. ICS on the Droid X was just way too buggy for me. In addition to all of the non-working things that people will tell you, I had other issues. My browsing was very slow on some sites with javascript on. I suspect due to the lack of hardware acceleration on ICS. Also, my radio.com app would cut the feed off after about 2 minutes of audio.
After Gummy, I had also tried AOKP. Both are nearly identical.
I wound up with VXR (Vortex Reloaded) using the ICSish them. Very, very happy with it.
Not as fast as the ICS ROMS (those ICS ROMS just flew), but everything works 100% perfectly and it still did clear up some of the major issues I was having with stock (CPU pegging at 100% for long periods, dialer getting hung up not allowing me to make calls).
With the ICSish theme, it looks like I'm on ICS even.
The DX and ICS weren't made for each other (not unless they release ICS drivers ever). People who tinker a lot might just live with the bugs because it's fun and it sure is fast, but it wasn't for me.
