Is it possible to edit the text colour of the softkeys?? Ive tried UItweaker and Rc mod but they only allow changing the whole system font colour, unless im wrong.
Can anyone shed some light on this??
thanks
not to worry solved it.
using a reg editor
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\ThemeName.tsk
create the binary value called -
Color_CommandBarText
0000 00 00 00 where '00 00 00' represents your RGB value
colour chart found here: http://www.december.com/html/spec/color.html
soft reset or change theme and change back and enjoy
incase anyone suggests this reg edit changes all system colours (possible assumption from my screen capture) the taskbar colours were changed through rc mod
Nice find!!!
You still can use UITweaker under WM5ColourChanger. The item is Command Bar Text.

Dear all,
in WM2003 i couldn't use many good today themes (Horizon is a good example) because the text color turns to white for the unselected items. It seems that's why all MS themes are using white text on a dark image so the start menu text will be reversed to black. I thought that MS implemented the 'contextual revers logic' but seems they didn't want to pay extra effort
Anyway, for the users of XDA I with WM2003 (may be it's solved in XDA II) you can solve this issue by modifying the following registery key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Color
if it doesn't have, add a new 'binary' entry as following:
name: 39
value: 50 50 50 00
this should give you a readable menu text for the most themes that has light background.
Enjoy it ...
Thanks! That was really bugging me.
Speaking of which, has anyone else noticed that the hightlight bar on the start menu is always dark blue regardless of other colors in the theme? Any idea what registry keys might permit changes to that color? I'd love to switch it up once in awhile.

4, Today Screen text
5, Task Bar color left
6, Today Screen horizontal bars
7, System tray background
8, Task Bar color right
9, Vertical start bar and Application Title/Clock text
10, Notification multi-icon highlight (when tapped to show Notification Tray)
11, Notification Tray background
12, Notification icon highlight (when icon is tapped on Notification Tray)
13, Normal Notification title color left
14, Normal Notification title color right
15, Notes/Tasks/etc List background color left 2
16, Notes/Tasks/etc List background color right 2
25, Critical Notification title color left
26, Critical Notification title color right
27, Normal Notification title text (works in 2002 and 2003)
28, Critical Notification title text (works in 2002 and 2003)
36, (works only in PPC2003) Notes/Tasks/etc List background color left 1
37, (works only in PPC2003) Notes/Tasks/etc List background color right 1
38, (works only in PPC2003) I don't see where this color is used by the OS, but the Spiral.tsk that comes with 2003 sets it to c2,06,05 If you see what it does, tell me oe1kenobi at hotmail.com
39, (works only in PPC2003) Start Menu text
40, (works only in PPC2003) Tap-and-hold dots
This is taken from Themebuilder2003 from Richard L. Owens. See also his website http://www.ida.net/users/oe1k/programs/ThemeBuilder/
Good luck,

When I changed the theme from my MDA II from T-Mobile to Windows_Default and back to T-Mobile, I noticed two things:
- Start menu suddenly is transparent (see-thru)
- As the menu-items are in white text (and the underlying T-Mobile today screen is too), I can hardly read them anymore.
Any clue how to change the appearance of the start menu??
well when you make a skin you deside what picture you want on the background and on the startmenu if the same picture are chosen both places it will look as if the menu is transparent
you can use a skin maker to change the skin if you like
Thanks for the suggestions.
Maybe my question was unclear: I did not create any new skin. Just chose another Theme in Settings/Today and then changed it back.
Before I did this, the start menu was not transparent OR the menu items where in an different colour than white.
I just wanna be able to ga back to the original T-Mobile Theme

I noticed this too, the T-Mobile theme initially has black font color in it's Start Menu, but after changing the theme, the Start Menu font color will stay white forever. And for some reason you cannot alter the start menu text color directly.
If I remember correctly, there ought to be a registry key where you can set the text color for Start Menu items, but I'm not sure...
the default start menu colour in 2003 is white
and the default start menu colour in 2002 is black
if the skin dont active change the startmenu colour it will be default
work around
1 change the skin so it makes the text colour different from default
2 use another skin

Here it will explain how to alter the registry so you can change the start menu text color to whatever color you fancy ^O^[/img]
Fixed it!!
Thanks for the solution.
I getting as handy in modifying the registry as I am on my laptop . . .
you probably have a background image now?
The way I choose my startmenu background color and/or image =
make a (small) bmp with only the color you want.
then open this bmp file with resco explorer.
when image is viewed press 'menu'.
and then press 'set as background'
At least works for me with my Touch Pro, it won't change the TouchFlo3d background, but it will change the Startmenu background.
To change the startmenu text color go into registry and edit the following:
HKLocalMachine -> Software -> Microsoft -> Color ->
Binary Value 39 = Startmenu Text Color
white = FF FF FF 00
Black = 50 50 50 00 (i think)
cheers
This petty annoyance has been bugging me for ages. When I use the XDA developers theme with a Cooked TMO 4.01.16 rom the font color for menu items is white.
The lack of contrast between the white letters and tan background makes it unreadable.
Anyone know how to change the font color for the menu items??
I know its petty but...

This has been bugging me too. There may be a registry entry somewhere that we can change. I once restored the entire registry to it's original state (WM2003 default theme), and although the background was not changed to the WM03 default theme, the menu font changed from white to black. It makes me think that whatever registry entry was changed wasn't just pointing to a different .TSK file, but actually changed parameters of the theme (namely the font color). Anyone have any more information on this?
Shawn
I don´t have more informations, about this bug. But it´s the same for the German 4.01.19 ROM....
Stefan
registry settings for the start menu font
Basically, what I've done is go in to the hklm/software/MS/color and set the key name of 39 ff ff ff ff
and there you go. the start menu color is now black

You can use the TKCreater found at http://www.funnysnake.com/. This allows you to change various parameters for your theme... very useful..
That's pure genius
Thanks for the fix.
hklm/software/MS/color then insert the key name of 39 ff ff ff ff
Worked perfectly for me.
I used PHM Registry editor to insert that setting without trouble.
TKCreater looks like a usefull application too
Thanks

PS This has to be the best forum ever! xda-developers rule!!!!
hey. i was reading a post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=259932&highlight=battery+icon) that talked about changing the colors on the top and bottom bars. in the directory "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\ThemeName.tsk"
from what i gather you are supposed to create the ThemeName.tsk file and then in that file you enter 2 values:
Color_SoftkeyFlatCenter - For color of soft keys bar background
Color_TitleFlatCenter - For color of task bar background
If anyone knows what i'm talking about hoe do you go about making both the top and bottom bars black? i couldn't find the value for black.
Thanks.
value for black is 00 00 00 00
after creating bin with this values (also pay att to the "ok/close" button, color changed through creating Color_TitleFlatDoneBtn = 257 in the same direction as said here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WindowsMobile5Colors) you'll get the skin like that
I am looking for a specific registry editor that allowed me to edit my fonts color and the top and bottom bar. I didn't have to type in values. bassicly I just slid the slider to the color I wanted.
anyone have any idea what program this is???
