Tip: Start menu color - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

Dear all,
in WM2003 i couldn't use many good today themes (Horizon is a good example) because the text color turns to white for the unselected items. It seems that's why all MS themes are using white text on a dark image so the start menu text will be reversed to black. I thought that MS implemented the 'contextual revers logic' but seems they didn't want to pay extra effort
Anyway, for the users of XDA I with WM2003 (may be it's solved in XDA II) you can solve this issue by modifying the following registery key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Color
if it doesn't have, add a new 'binary' entry as following:
name: 39
value: 50 50 50 00
this should give you a readable menu text for the most themes that has light background.
Enjoy it ...

Thanks! That was really bugging me.

Speaking of which, has anyone else noticed that the hightlight bar on the start menu is always dark blue regardless of other colors in the theme? Any idea what registry keys might permit changes to that color? I'd love to switch it up once in awhile.

The today screen colours are as follows:
4, Today Screen text
5, Task Bar color left
6, Today Screen horizontal bars
7, System tray background
8, Task Bar color right
9, Vertical start bar and Application Title/Clock text
10, Notification multi-icon highlight (when tapped to show Notification Tray)
11, Notification Tray background
12, Notification icon highlight (when icon is tapped on Notification Tray)
13, Normal Notification title color left
14, Normal Notification title color right
15, Notes/Tasks/etc List background color left 2
16, Notes/Tasks/etc List background color right 2
25, Critical Notification title color left
26, Critical Notification title color right
27, Normal Notification title text (works in 2002 and 2003)
28, Critical Notification title text (works in 2002 and 2003)
36, (works only in PPC2003) Notes/Tasks/etc List background color left 1
37, (works only in PPC2003) Notes/Tasks/etc List background color right 1
38, (works only in PPC2003) I don't see where this color is used by the OS, but the Spiral.tsk that comes with 2003 sets it to c2,06,05 If you see what it does, tell me oe1kenobi at hotmail.com
39, (works only in PPC2003) Start Menu text
40, (works only in PPC2003) Tap-and-hold dots

Start menu transparency after theme change

When I changed the theme from my MDA II from T-Mobile to Windows_Default and back to T-Mobile, I noticed two things:
- Start menu suddenly is transparent (see-thru)
- As the menu-items are in white text (and the underlying T-Mobile today screen is too), I can hardly read them anymore.
Any clue how to change the appearance of the start menu??
well when you make a skin you deside what picture you want on the background and on the startmenu if the same picture are chosen both places it will look as if the menu is transparent
you can use a skin maker to change the skin if you like
Thanks for the suggestions.
Maybe my question was unclear: I did not create any new skin. Just chose another Theme in Settings/Today and then changed it back.
Before I did this, the start menu was not transparent OR the menu items where in an different colour than white.
I just wanna be able to ga back to the original T-Mobile Theme

I noticed this too, the T-Mobile theme initially has black font color in it's Start Menu, but after changing the theme, the Start Menu font color will stay white forever. And for some reason you cannot alter the start menu text color directly.
If I remember correctly, there ought to be a registry key where you can set the text color for Start Menu items, but I'm not sure...
the default start menu colour in 2003 is white
and the default start menu colour in 2002 is black
if the skin dont active change the startmenu colour it will be default
work around
1 change the skin so it makes the text colour different from default
2 use another skin

Here it will explain how to alter the registry so you can change the start menu text color to whatever color you fancy ^O^[/img]
Fixed it!!
Thanks for the solution.
I getting as handy in modifying the registry as I am on my laptop . . .
you probably have a background image now?
The way I choose my startmenu background color and/or image =
make a (small) bmp with only the color you want.
then open this bmp file with resco explorer.
when image is viewed press 'menu'.
and then press 'set as background'
At least works for me with my Touch Pro, it won't change the TouchFlo3d background, but it will change the Startmenu background.
To change the startmenu text color go into registry and edit the following:
HKLocalMachine -> Software -> Microsoft -> Color ->
Binary Value 39 = Startmenu Text Color
white = FF FF FF 00
Black = 50 50 50 00 (i think)
cheers

Changed today screen to black, now cant read messaging text

Hey guys,
Just got my today screen all setup with a black setup (top and bottom bars as well), but for some reason the messaging window (outlook or texting) is full of a bunch of horizontal black and white bars unless the item is highlighted.
Anyone know whats up?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!
sounds like a setting on the theme generator you use. lines are probably the same on the notes menu also.
there seems to be two colours used on the messaging/notes menu, full of horizontal lines. you should be able to change them on your theme generator, i could when i had the same problem after creting a theme.
change both settings (usually notes/ msg colour 1/ to the same colour, this will sort it.
Have a good look through the wiki, almost all colours are detailed there, or use a better theme editor.

Pardon my ignorance but what is the wiki?
What theme editor do you guys recommend?
Changing 36 to 37 fixed the CONTACTS background but not the Notes/Messaging

Help get rid of background in SMS

Hi
I loaded WM6, which was really simple thanks to the details instructions on this site.
Now I loaded a Theme which I like, but it has an annoying background when I view my sms's/mail (Inbox area - not within the actual item) and my contacts. How can I get rid of it?
(I can't attach a pic because the file attachment function doesn't seem to work? )
This is the background I'm trying to get rid of?
You'll need some system color changing utility, like SKTools, or UITweaker. Look for items called something like:
"list color left 1", "list color left 2", "list color right 1", "list color right 2"
or
"left of a gradient listview", "left of a gradient listview (interlalced)", "right of a gradient listview", "right of a gradient listview (interlalced)"
And set both left and both right colors to be equal to each other - then you'll have no horizontal nines, or at least close - then you'll still have horizontal lines, but they won't be as visible.
Of go to WM5 color registry tweaks in XDA wiki and change the colors in registry by hand.

use themegence to change colour in TSK file..

Customizing TF3D Vodafone Theme - Stuck (Help Needed)

Hi...for the past few days i've been through a lot of threads trying to figure out stuff like changing font color, color of notification bubble etc...without much luck. So detailing my problem here...plz see if you can help.
I started out with the cra**y vodafone theme on my TP2. The two biggest problems: the horrible red slider and the black font due to which i can only use light colored backgrounds.
To get rid of the first problem, I installed ohyeahar's color TF3d with no top/bottom curtains which works great but still the first part of the problem remains.
Also as you can see in the screenshot, the highlight bars in people and mail tabs are the same red (with black text) but the text color in the slider is white (see the mail notification bubble). So, is there a way i can:
1. Change the font color on all tabs to white?
2. Get rid of all the red?
Can it be done through registry editing (are there image files i can replace) or would it require a manila editor?
I used the Back to Black CAB which gives you a nice standard Black Manila.
THEN you can install any number of Themes with no further problem.
Download:-
http://www.4shared.com/file/10933096...3DIIBlack.html
Before installing it copy the "2330fc3c_manila" file from the windows directory and put it back after installation (otherwise your city names will be in French).
When installing DO NOT let your screen turn off and it takes about 20 mins to finish.

how to add color in windows 10 mobile?

People help with a question: how to add color in windows 10 mobile?
Hi,
- Settings
- Personalize
- Colors
-> Available options :
- Select the background main theme ("dark" or "light" -> actually black or white background)
- Select a color from the palette
- You'll probably don't want to apply the color to the bottom bar (it's ugly ^^)
This just changes all the Metro icons, progress bars, cursors, switches, and even some warning boxes backgrounds to the selected (and unfortunately unique) color, but it's still better than nothing.
The base color is some Win 10 electric blue ; it's located at the bottom of the palette as a distinct additional choice in case you want to revert back to OEM.
I'm currently using a nice HTC Sense looking green (second from the bottom and left in the palette), as I had always regretted NRGZ28 had used that cold blue in his HD and HD2 ROMs to replace the OEM HTC warm green I found matched the black theme so much better...
