Video demonstration of FingerKeyboard (WVGA)
Please note that the speed of typing in
this video is intentionally slightly slowed
down - this was done so that it is easier
to see what buttons are being typed
during the demonstration.
Also note that the VGA skins can differ from the WVGA ones=====================

HELP AND FAQ - Frequently asked questions
Read this whole text before using the FingerKeyboard or asking for help! If your question is already answered in FAQ it will be ignored. Don't be lazy!
What version should I install on my XYZ device? / What is WVGA, WQVGA, VGA and QVGA?
To successfully install Fingerkeyboard on your device, you need to pick the correct version for your phone. For example, let's say you want to find out what resolution Samsung Omnia has. Type "Samsung Omnia review" into Google, and among the first few results usually you'll get the most popular review sites listed. Reviews always contain resolution information, so we easily find out that Samsung Omnia has a 400x240 pixels resolution. That means you should install FingerKeyboard WQVGA cab.
Here's the list of supported resolutions for FingerKeyboard, with their standard abbreviations:
WVGA - 800x480
WQVGA - 400x240
VGA - 640x480
QVGA - 320x240
Download these resolutions from here!
How can i uninstall FingerKeyboard?
Go to Settings > System > Remove programs.
It is listed as "Exidler's FingerKeyboard"
Why does FingerKeyboard look differently on my device then on the screenshots?
There can be some small differences between the screenshots and what you see on your screen. The reason for this is that different layouts can have different features, graphic elements or button layouts. We consider English layout to be the "standard" layout, with best combination of button size and positions.
How can I type those special characters that appear above normal characters?
Press and hold a key.
How to switch to full CAPS?
Press and hold the shift button.
Spacebar
If you press and hold spacebar button it will write a dot followed by a space.
How to use text selection?
Switch to full CAPS mode and then use arrow buttons to select text.
How to use cut / copy / paste / undo?
Switch to full CAPS mode, select the text you want to cut or copy, and press and hold ^c or ^x characters. Then press and hold ^v to paste. On some layouts these are named "cut", "copy" and "pst". Same thing with "undo" option - you can use "undo" at any moment, and it will take you back for unlimited number of steps.
Where is that Config tool you mention?
After you install FingerKeyboard, go to Start > Programs > Finger Keyboard.
How can I switch to numeric keyboard?
Press 123 button. If your layout does not have dedicated 123 button, press Shift and 123 will appear on your Language toggle button. Behavior of Language toggle button can be customized in Configuration tool.
How can I change a color scheme of the keyboard?
Config tool > Main > Color scheme: select which ever you like and press OK or Apply.
How can I select language layouts?
Config tool > Main: you will see a list of all language layouts you have in your FingerKeyboard folder. Put a tick next to the layouts you want to use and press OK or Apply. We also advise you to physically delete layouts you don't want to use from oyur device (Program files / FingerKeyb / Skins). This will make Config tool start up a little bit faster and use less memory.
What are all those Backspace options in Config tool?
Behavior of Backspace key can be customized to suit your needs. You can separately control what will Backspace do on short click and long press, as well as how it will behave in small caps or caps lock mode.
How to minimize or turn off the keyboard?
Short press the keyboard toggle button (the one with small keyboard or switch sign on it). Long press on this button will turn off FingerKeyboard and switch to default HTC keyboard.
How to disable click sound?
Run FingerKeyboard Config tool. Under "Options" tab you will find a "Press sound" box. Here you can select from several different click sounds, all of which have "quiet" and "loud" versions. This is useful if you want a subtle click sound, but don't want to lower the volume for the whole System. There is also a "no sound option".
How can I get vibration feedback?
Config tool > Options tab > Press vibrate. Here you can select how long you want the vibration feedback to last. Minimum of 20ms will get you a barely noticeable vibration effect, while 80ms will be very strong.
How can I control the key-press delay? / What is "Hold time" / Can I make the keys repeat on press+hold?
"Hold time" option in Config tool is a cool option you can use to control how long it will be needed for a key to be continuously pressed before it writes a letter or performs an action. This part of the "Hold time" function is controlled with numbers in the first box. The second box controls how long will it take for a key to be continuously pressed before it starts repeating itself. So, if you put 500ms in the first box, and 200ms in the second box, that means you will have to press a key for 500ms before it performs it's "long press" action, and 200ms more before it starts repeating that function. If you hold the key even longer, it will then gradually accelerate.
Can I hide / show Windows menu bars?
Yes, go to Config tool and under "Options" tab select how you want the keyboard to display in Portrait and Landscape mode. We suggest selecting "Show bar" for portrait, and "Hide bar" for landscape.
I want the pop-up images to stay longer on screen. How can I do this?
In Config tool, Options tab, there is a "Popup time" box. Here you can select how long will the pop-up image stay on screen after a key has been pressed. If you set pop-up time to 1500ms, this means the pop-up image will stay on screen for 1.5 seconds, or until next key is pressed. Pop-up image delay affects ONLY the normal character keys (A,B,C,D etc). Special action keys, such as Shift, Space, Backspace etc. have default short time and will not stay on your screen. This is done to avoid action keys images covering large areas of the screen with their larger pop-up images.
What are Smiles / Shortcuts?
This is a feature that no other keyboard has. It allows you to control what any of the several predefined actions keys will do when you press and hold them. Almost all layouts have these special actions included (between 7 and 11 actions on most of the layouts). You can control what will show up on a key when you open the keyboard, as well as what that key will write when you press+hold it. For example, you can type into "Key text" box "info" and into "Action text" you could type "John Smith, gsm:00123456789, e-mail: [email protected]". Or maybe your favorite web address. Or your signature. Or your wife's name. Or your lover's name for all we care The possibilities are endless! You can do the same thing for smiles - if you don't like the default ones, use your own, or something else!
A special key I need is missing / Can I customize smiles / Can I change shortcuts?
If there's a key missing in your language layout, you can easily add it yourself by using either Smiles or Shortcuts tab in Config tool. Simply type the missing key into two of the horizontal boxes and the key will appear when you long press a button that has that Smiles / Shortcut action.
Why does XYZ language layout have only a few smiles / shortcuts buttons?
Some language layouts have very high demands regarding the number of characters they need to occupy. Because of this there are a few language layouts that may have a smaller number of smiles / shortcuts spaces reserved. We have tried to include as many as possible, believe us!
How can I make FingerKeyboard a default keyboard? / How can I keep FingerKeyboard as default keyboard even after reset?
You can use a small program called SIP Change. Look it up on XDA-developers.com forum, and remember to set delay to 40-50 seconds.
"Where is XYZ language layout? Why is it not included!?"
If you want a certain language layout, first check FingerKeyboard2.1 thread on XDA-developers.com forum if someone maybe already made an additional layout and posted it there. If not, the best thing you can do is to make your own layout and share it with other people. If your layout is good, we'll probably include it in next version. Please do not spam us with "I WANT THIS LANGUAGE!!!" messages. All language layouts depend exclusively on the community to produce them. If no one can't be bothered to make your language layout, we can't really help you.
Editing instructions:
You can use the existing layouts to make it custom layouts! The easiest way is to open one of the layout skin txt files and replace the existing characters with your own. Experiment a bit, and you will soon get the hang of it. Same applies if you want to make your own skin - edit the included bitmaps, and change the appropriate lines in txt files. Everything you want to know about FingerKeyboard actions, layouts, colors and resolutions is explained in "doc-about-skin.txt" that is located in the root of the FingerKeyb folder. Read it first before asking for help!
XT9 & TEXT SUGGESTION:
This keyboard does not support T9. However, there is an option to enable standard Windows Mobile word suggestion, as well as SMS contact name suggestion. There are two ways to do this.
First way is to use the FingerKeyboard Config tool and select what you want to use (Word / SMS suggestion, or both). SMS suggestions will work normally, but for WinMo word suggestion to function, you will need to switch to HTC default keyboard and manually turn on XT9 on the little T9 switch. After that, you can reload FingerKeyboard and everything will work normally. This can be a good way for people who like to use T9 on other keyboards, but also want to use FingerKeyboard without T9. This approach also makes it possible to use new HTC style suggestion windows (the ones with small arrows on each side, where you can flip between names / words).
To avoid messing around with XT9 switch on HTC keyboard you can simply globally disable XT9 across the whole system. That means that T9 will not work even on system keyboards that have T9 support, but SMS / Word suggestions will both work. This will disable the HTC style suggestion windows, and use the default WinMo style (opens a simple white window with list of suggested words or names). The patch file which disables XT9 globally is attached in this post. This patch can be uninstalled. If you already have it installed, you do not have to remove it or reinstall it. Also, please note that when you install this patch, you will not be able to select SMS /Word options in FingerKeyb config tool - they will always be grayed out.
Click Here to Download this Patch
It might be best to install the FingerKeyb cab and test it first. You can always globally disable XT9 later on if you decide so.
There is a known bug with Word suggestion, that has been almost fully fixed in this version of FingerKeyboard. The bug manifests itself like this:
- if you have "Text word suggestion" turned on, and you type an SMS message, the "home" and "end" buttons will not work while the word suggestion window is open on the screen. If you select a word, those keys will work normally. Unfortunately, this isn't our fault - it's actually a bug in Word suggestion app.

Looks very nice... installing it now! Thx!
edit: works very smooth and nice too!
Thats what im waiting for
You can customize nearly everything, thats awesome
Thank you very much Giannis
My thanks goes also to Exidler and Rozenthal
this is by far the best keyboard i have used!!
any chance of an oem package in the future?
excellent work! thank you thank you!
is it possible to get the up/down/left/right arrows on the bottom row of the keyboard?
thanks
Awesome job! Thank you
Looks fantastic- ill give feedback after testing. What i like so far, even without trying is that this is what im looking for in terms of apps for my WM fone. As Msoft has failed completely in this regard, it is up to us to create these type of apps and to make sure that they are usable and well documented. Unfortunately, many apps are half-assed (not an insult to their creators- it is simply not possible for an individual or a small group of people to do what the entire team at apple or HTC does) so often times, they can cause more problems then they solve as bugs upon bugs are discovered. What we need is comprehensive apps that are presented in an organized manner like this. An example is the FAQ section which is great (cuts down clutter- a thread does not need to be 200 pages long) because we all hate those who ask questions over and over again that have been already asked and most of the time- even answered. Way to go!
Edit: Works smoothly. Good customization options. Addresses major flaws in most other keyboards (example- .com and www. shortcuts). No bugs discovered yet. Would like to see directional arrows at bottom option in customization menu as we all hate the useless dpad on our Fuzes. So far...highly recommended!!

I had no uninstall option either. I just installed the newest version, it would not work. So I uninstalled the new version, deleted the finger folder, soft reset, reinstalled, soft reset and it works fine. I have a Diamond as well.
Good luck.
Will there be a port of the Glossy version ??
predtxt
I see that there's predtxt in the language selection. May I know what is it? Is it a language or a special feature?
Thanks.
to answer some questions:
version with arrows will be uploaded today
unfortunately it cant be configured from the config tool
Predtxt is my special features..its predefined texting..try it...i will post some screenshots soon
to uninstall versions that were installed manually:
click on register, and then choose NO from the popup...after that delete the whole fingerkeyboard folder
whatever you do, do NOT install this over another...
edit:Glossy edition will be adjusted too..but it will take a while as i have to finish other stuff first
Great Work Giannis86 !!!
Ukrainian layout
Hi,
Here is Ukrainian layout. Can you put it into the installation?

Guys, I need to remove the HTC keyboard/keypad (pic below for clarity) as I am using CooTek's TouchPal and the HTC option keeps on popping up as the default (altho it is not set as the default).
I HAVE used the reghack to disable the CLSID key, which removes the SIP fromt he list of SIPS, BUT it still pops up a lot despite not being the default.
Uninstall does not work; I suspect as several files are in use which also manifest as errors during backup. I need to completely disable this SIP (perhaps in some sort of safe mode) then uninstall the files. They are not processes I can stop, nor can I see a service that can be stopped.
Any bright ideas? Extensive searching shows nothing on this. Device is an Elf/Touch.
same thing here, I would love to get rid of this thing. It is totally driving me nuts.
Use a program called "SIPChange" After you select the SIP of your choice, soft reset and you'll be set.
You can also disable HKLM\Software\Tegic (the hole folder).

Yep, that did the trick: deleted key, reboot, uninstall then works.
Thanks a stack!
Did you truly succeed in totally getting rid of it? HOW? It's in ROM; the .dll's won't unregister, can't be deleted. I deleted the reg key and rebooted--no change. Modified the key under CLSID, rebooted, and it wasn't listed in the list, but it was the first input method to come up anyway! I love the Touch, but I hate this thing. Very grateful for any help.
Later: OK, I think I got it. Some combination of deleting the Tegis key and zero-ing out the CLSID keys.... It seems to be gone...but I'm keeping a hammer close at hand, just in case.
anybody here can give out a workable sequence of actions to get rid of stock keyboard on HTC Touch? thanks
This procedure worked for me:
0. First, set the default input method to something other than HTC Keyboard or HTC Keypad (search these forums for reg hack or "defaultIM.exe");
1. Search the device's registry for "issip" (short for "issipinputmethod");
2. At each found "1", go up to the parent key and identify the input method;
3. When you find each of "HTC Keyboard" and "HTC Keypad" input method, go up to its parent key (the long numeric string) and *delete that whole key* (for safety, export it first so you'll have a backup);
4. Now go into HKLM\Software and *delete*the whole "Tegis" key.
5. Soft reset.
Notes: (a) Merely setting "issipinputmethod" to "0" for the unwanted items was not effective. (b) Since those unwanted input methods are part of ROM, there's nothing in "Remove Programs" to uninstall. I did try explicitly installing them (you can find the .cab in these forums), then uninstalling, but that was useless.
P.S. If you'll export the reg keys from steps 3 and 4 and upload or PM them to me, I'll turn them into a "remover" to make this easier for others in future.
can you plase explaine what you main in this step:
{{{4. Now go into HKLM\Software and *delete*the whole "Tegis" key.}}}
thank you
If I understood your original question, you want to remove the "HTC Keyboard" and "HTC Keypad" input methods. The "Tegis" key in the device's registry, under H_Key_Local_Machine\Software, contains information about those input methods and must be deleted. If you don't see any "Tegis" key, then the Trinity must be different in some way.
i have "ADW version 1.1 WWE" ROM
the default HTC keyboard in this rom is only keyboard, I did the procedure you mentioned but in point 4 i did not see "Tegis" i have "Tegic" and i delete it but after soft rest the system freeze and i was forced to hard reset.
Found CLSID reg keys
I use Total Commander for accessing the register, but the search option does not work in there.
So I went through the ID's by hand. It took some time, but hell, it pays off if the annoyance is gone!
The CLSID's:
Touch-toetsenbord (Touch-keyboard):
{62B00599-25D2-4e09-8C48-03BF26DB8517}
Touch-toetsenblok (Touch-keypad):
{198D503A-EFFE-4afd-BC54-EED333C80E6D}
I found this in the HTC Touch Cruise WM6 (original) Dutch language.
If there is a typo in my strings, just look for the first part, before the first "-".
I hope it helps, just like it helped me.
can those who have done it successful tell us if restarting
your phone now takes a longer time?
I've tried disabling the default keyboard, and switching it to
PCM keyboard. Then remove default from list and make PCM keyboard
the new default.
I find that startup takes longer after that.
Hard resetted twice.
Is this method of complete removal better?
Unable to reboot now!

ok.. let me make this simple for everyone.
SIPChange DOES work.. for everyone (for supported OS)
the thing is, that there's a delay you need to apply for it. now.. i know the delay box in SIPChange is problematic.. so i what i did to solve this (on 4 different devices) is to change the delay in the registry.
now the tricky part is, that each different device, with each different rom and it's different set of programs installed has a different sipboot delay. so what you need to do is increase the delay until it works. this will take a few resets but .. what to do
put this in a reg file and change the delay everytime...
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\The Paradigm Group\sipchange\Parameters]
"Delay"=DWORD:000000A0
change the value (Hexadecimally!) until it works. (to my knowledge it could move between 10 to 30 seconds (between a stacked polaris and a stuffed wizard))
now.. make SURE you chose the right SIP you wanted before you do that (or change the reg value for it (it's in the same regfolder).
enjoy.
My 2 Cents
I've been battling with this on my HTC Touch Diamond, trying both Resco Keyboard Pro 5.11 and TouchPal 3.5 and have discovered the following:
(1) Even using SIPChange or SKTools to change DefaultIM, I cannot get any non-HTC/non-Microsoft keyboard layout to be persistent across a soft reset.
(2) If I set any HTC layout (Full QWERTY, Compact QWERTY or Dial Pad) or the standard (small) keyboard as my input method, it is persistent across soft resets.
(3) According to Microsoft (on MSDN):
The default Input Method must be signed with a privileged or unprivileged certificate so that it can successfully load during the boot process.
Click to collapse
My assumption is that either these 3rd party keyboard layouts are not signed, or that HTC is doing something "special" that allows their keyboard layouts to be persistent across a soft reset... possibly some code in WM releases past the AKU2 Windows Mobile 5 ROMs that checks for a "non-preferred" input method as DefaultIM and if it finds one in the DefaultIM registry key reverts it back to the standard keyboard layout.
I would use the HTC Full QWERTY layout (or even the Compact one) if it had one feature: Feedback sound! I find it annoying that they provide no audible feedback (or even a visual cue) when you press a key. At least Resco and TouchPal do that!

The camera half and full press can also be captured and fully configured for short and long half press, as well as short and long full press. Also, the camera key will be ignored while the camera program is open. Capturing each key is all optional. They can be switched by the registry keys detailed in the next post. By default, if the reg keys are not there, none are captured. You can capture the long press only, short and long press, or leave the key alone. Fn key presses are also detected for A, S, D, F, G, Z, X, C, and V keys. Registry strings are used to specify what happens when the key is pressed. You can choose to open execute anything from a program exe to a mortscript to an mp3. You may also configure it to send a character or special key. This allows maximum flexibility.
The program can also make the win key or tab key a ctrl key. There are two modes of operation for each key. For the win key: Short press mode (short press to enable ctrl then press a letter), Long press mode (press letter while holding ctrl). With the tab key, it is still possible to send a tab character: Short press mode (short press to enable ctrl then press a letter; long press sends tab chr), Long press mode (press letter while holding ctrl; short press sends tab chr).
The program also supports vibrate feedback for a press and hold event. The duration is configurable or this can be disabled. Also configurable is the duration you must hold a key for the long press to occur.
To start the key hook, just launch X1BC.exe. If it is already running, launching X1BC.exe again will end the program and restore the keys to default.
Notes
While the panel key is captured, on the ROM I run with no panels installed I still get a popup saying could not find panelmanager.exe. I am not sure what would happen on a ROM with panels installed. To prevent this all together delete the whole registry key HKLM\Software\Sony Ericsson\PanelManager. You may want to back it up first but there is not harm in deleting it. You do need this key if you want to use panels though. But if you do use panels you dont want to remap the panel key anyway.
Capturing the win key on the slide out KB is tricky, but I think I have done it in a way that wont cause problems. It works well as a ctrl key and I havent had problems with it, but I still think the tab key makes a better ctrl key because it behaves like a regular key and is therefore easier to manipulate.
Disclaimer, use at your own risk. I have tested and debugged in the emulator and on my X1. I dont do anything that I think could really cause any harm or data loss. Has never crashed on me at any point during dev. The program does not make any changes to the system. It just runs in the background. If terminated everything works as it did before the program was started. Try it out.

Each action key can be one of three types: Execution of a file, sending of a character, or sending of a special key.
To execute a file, the string should contain the full pathname of the file to run. This can be an exe, mscr, lnk, mp3, doc, whatever. Enclose the path and file name in quotes, followed by a space, then any parameters if you desire if it is an executable. For instance:
Code:
"\Program Files\App\My App.exe" -p
To send a character, the string must begin with a # symbol followed by the character to send. For instance, to send a "$" character, they value of the string should be:
Code:
#$
To send a special key, the string must begin with a & symbol followed by the identifier of the special key to send. Here are the special keys:
W - Windows key
R - Rotate screen
Q - Send left softkey event
E - Send right softkey event
What other special keys would you like?
For instance, to send a windows key event, they value of the string should be:
Code:
&W
The following are DWORD values:
HKCU\SOFTWARE\JKing\X1BC\LongKeyTimeout
Delay for long key press in milliseconds. The default if the value does not exists is 500.
HKCU\SOFTWARE\JKing\X1BC\LWINCtrlMode

0 - Do not use as ctrl
1 - Short press mode (short press to enable ctrl then press a letter; long press sends tab chr)
2 - Long press mode (press letter while holding ctrl; short press sends tab chr)
(Note, you may use either LWIN or TAB for ctrl. Not both at the same time. If both of these keys are non zero, the tab key will be used. I recommend the tab key. It is more reliable.)
HKCU\SOFTWARE\JKing\X1BC\SupportMultipleKeyHooks
Here are the possible choices:
0 - OFF
1 - ON
The default if the value does not exists is 0. (Please leave as 0 for now. It does not work.)
HKCU\SOFTWARE\JKing\X1BC\HoldFeedbackDuration
Duration of vibration feedback for a long key press. Set to zero to disable. The default if the value does not exists is 35.
HKCU\SOFTWARE\JKing\X1BC\LandscapeOrientation
Set which landscape orientation the "R" special key will switch to. Choices:
0 - Left handed (correct orientation for the keyboard)
1 - Right handed
The default if the value does not exists is 0.
Known Issues:
-Does not support multiple key hooks (not really a problem as this is an OS limitation but see this post for details)

nice!
would look forward for the program when it's officially released
Heh, nice one Jking. I think the best way to go is to somehow "merge" your app with Dande's. Dande doesn't want to create a UI and uses mortscript, where you use the - in my opinion easier - registry. From what I see so far, you both have the same app, written in a different way, with the biggest change being you using the winkey (which I like), and Dande using the tab key.
I'd like to see where this goes, keep up the good work!
All the Best JKingDev, sorry I can't help. I don't know programming.
The biggest shortcoming of the X1 is the lack of buttons for mapping to apps and task manager. I miss the ease of button mapping on my previous i780.
Looking forward to your end product!
Good idea. Looking forward to this app.
cheers
I would love to see an option that would allow these button's to be exposed in the list of assignable buttons in the Buttons Settings control panel (similar to how Tilt developers were able to add the PTT button to it) to allow regular action assignments to those buttons.
Very interested to see how this application turns out!

Yeah, me too! But I guess this is on driver level, not sure though!
Edit: I take that back, I remember that AEButtonPlus is able to add virtual keys to that list. But I think you still have to run your application at all time in the background, not really giving an advantage to this. I might be wrong again though.

I was sending you my code. Didn't expect you to be this impatient
From what I have experienced, using the keyboard hook, it is not possible to remap the panel and the symbol button. Usually you can stop their original functionality to work by returning -1 in the hook, but that doesn't work with panel and symbol. So, at least at first sight, it seems to be not possible to remap these buttons.
You could consider also using RegisterHotKey, which is officially supported by the SDK. Mort told me that he uses it with MortPlayer and it seems to be quite powerful too. Maybe the hook and RegisterHotKey together allow you to do more than just with the hook. I thought that, when you can't do it with the low level hook, there is no other way at all to do it, that's why I didn't even bother trying.
Since you already started a thread in the development phase, maybe you should tell us what you actually plan to implement so that people can tell you in advance what they like about your concept and what they don't. Kind of collecting requirements before coding - like software engineering should be (and not like I did it )
Edit: By the way, in the zip file I sent to you by mail, you can also find a text file which documents the button sequences I was interested in. Helped me a lot while implementing.

First of all, the registry is only some kind of global application configuration database (and a bad idea from microsoft if you ask me). The registry can only enable functionality that is implemented in an application. In contrary to that, MortScript allows you to implement functionality that my application doesn't.
Despite of being completely different things, I don't find fiddling in the registry easy nor secure, but that's another topic.
Ah, and no offense intended, alright
@Jking:
THANKS for this great idea !!
X1 is missing a dedicated REC key
I desperately need this function
One-touch key press to automatically start recording a voice note
Maybe your software will finally let me use my Xperia as a voice recorder
Thank you for all the support! I am glad there is interest in this. It is nice to give back to this great community. New test version. I rewrote the key hook algorithm to handle the win and softkeys in a smoother way. Shouldnt have any prolems now. Now, if you put in settings to not capture a it should be released to the system like normal. Also changed up the registry settings a little bit to streamline the code. Made note of the new format in the second post. Next step will be to actually perform user specified actions when keys are pressed. It will actually become useful.
For some reason, when I set the grab volume key settings to 0 and completely ignore them, they still dont do anything while X1BC.exe is running. I am not sure if this is my app doing this or AEBP screwing with me since I still have it installed. Does anyone else get this problem?

I believe this can be done since AEBP does it but I am not sure how. I have a slight idea of what I think it does. It involves adding some registry keys then sending custom key codes. I will look into this after I have accomplished everything else I want with this app. Can't make any promises but I will try.

Yes I think you are correct on this. The only advantage is assigning special keys like <rotate screen> ect. Most of those things you can find exe's for or use a mortscript anyway though, and my app will allow you to specify any exe/mortscript/file to run/open anyway.

Sorry for my impatience. I had lots of free time and was itching to put my coding skills to work. I have wanted to write a button mapper since I owned a mogul (on my 6700 i used pqzII to make the win key a ctrl mey; i missed this functionality) but I never got around to it.
About the panel key, a key hook is able to detect the panel key presses, but for some reason it is unable to prevent the system from detecting it too like it can for other keys. This is why the work around to delete the panel manager registry key is necessary. Once you do that, the system ignores the key. Hotkeys sounds like a good idea. As it is, it works for me. I can try hotkey later though to see if that works out better. Deleting the panel manager key is an easy work around though if you dont use panels.
Well as far as key functions, you will specify via registry key what file/program to open/run. It could be and exe, mortscript, mp3, whatever. I think that allows max flexibility. Run a program directly, or run a mortscript if you have something more complex you want the key to do. The same functionality as yours, the only difference is that this can also run an exe directly as opposed to writing a script to run the exe.
After that, I want to implement the win key as a ctrl ley. There will be four modes. 1.) Disable ctrl key: allow the ctrl key to be assigned for short and long presses like it is now. 2.) Short ctrl key: Short press + letter sends ctrl key while a long press is mappable like it is now. 3.) Hold ctrl key: Hold + press letter then release sends ctrl key, while short press is assignable to something else. 4.) Full ctrl key: both short and hold methods send ctrl key.
Next I will add FN+key combinations to be assignable the way the other keys are (run exe/script/open file).
After that it will be looking into the suggestions of others such as virtual app keys.

The purpose of using the registry is not really to make things easier, it is just to make things configurable. You may choose what keys to trap and turn the ctrl key on or off. Mortscripts are very powerful and easy and I still give you the option of using them. But if all you want the key to do is launch a program, why launch a script just just launches a program? I give you the option to just launch that program directly.
New version 0.3. Now the keys are fully functional. The program is actually useful now. The registry keys to set for the key actions are detailed in the second post. All fully functional. I have stopped using AEButton plus now as X1BC does everything AEBP was doing. No more AEBP splash on boot. Now on to what AEBP doesnt do, ctrl key, fn keys, ect.
One caveat though. I figured out what the problem was with the volume keys. I use the HTC Blackstone volume control. It seems certain that HTC volume control as well as you tube, radio, ect use key hooks. Even if I tell my program to ignore the volume keys, pressing volume up will bring up the volume control but after that the volume keys wont change it. The reason why is that once HTC volume control pops up it sets a key hook to control the keys. If my app already has a key hook set, HTC VC will be unable to install its own hook, thus cannot grab the keys. I proved that HTC VC uses a key hook by closing X1BC, launching the VC, then trying to launch X1BC. My app reported as expected that it could not install the hook.
I noticed something very interesting a while ago though. I can launch X1BC even while AEBP is running and it will work. I didnt think much of it but now I realize that this is important. HTC VC works fine even if AEBP is running. AEBP certainly uses a key hook. I can launch AEBP first then launch X1BC. If I first launch X1BC then launch AEBP, AEBP wont work. I think this means that AEBP has some mechanism of supporting a second key hook. Probably the same way hookmgr works. I will try installing that and seeing if it makes the HTC programs and X1BC work together peacefully. Ultimately though, I want to give X1BC the capability to support another program setting a key hook. Not a big deal though. The HTC programs still work. Pressing a volume key brings up the volume control then you can control with your finger.
It is fully functional for mapping the hard keys now! Try it!
@JKingDev
I would still like to know what exactly you plan to build as the application, I mean featurewise. What features and maybe layout do you want the final application to have? It does really make sense to gather feature requests before starting the development of a complex software, otherwise people will always tell you what they would like to have changed. I think you would save quite a lot of implementation effort that way and you also could arrange your architecture a bit to the "final" structure of the application.

None taken. I'm just trying to add some perspective here. This is a developers site - true. So you can expect some people to be able to work with mortscript - true. But, regardless of any other arguments, there's a lot of users who just don't grasp scripting like with mort's and/or cba to learn yet another language. It's really good to support mortscript, all I'm saying it's nice to have the "easier" and simpler options as well. I will probably get into mortscript soon, too - as soon as university loosens up.
Now, on this application itself - it's looking really good Jking, it would be lovely to have it support multiple keyhooks. Another feature I'd like to see is grasping software keys, like for instance when tapping the clock in TF3D. I'd like to be able to set what that does as well; e.g. remap it to an application or something. Same goes for calender etc. - is your current code able to support that too?
Keep up the great work, this one is starting to look like a keeper!!
(Although I like AEbuttonplus, I read/noticed some downsides about it and would rather replace it.)

Thanks Angelusz. I don't believe that capturing things like tapping the clock in TF3D is possible though. Tapping software buttons does not generate a keyboard event. Only actual keys do. Therefore unless TF3D sends key events for some reason this would not be possible.

Oh, then I must have overlooked something. What configuration possibilities do you want to offer in your UI, what do you want to offer via registry configuration and what must be done via scripts or additional programs. E.g. what do you want to implement what a powerful program like AEButtonsPlus offers, what do you don't want to offer and what do you want to add to it to make it better. Starting a discussion like this would pop up many good ideas for a somewhat perfect application, you will see.
By the way, a software never is final - unless you declare it final, which basically means you stop the development.

Well I wasnt planning on making a UI unless people absolutely want to. All my settings are easily changeable in the registry. The second post outlines all the available options. When I add the ctrl key and fn keys there will be options for these too. There will also be an option to allow other key hooks if I get that working. Nothing must be done via scripts or other programs. Simply enter in the registry what file to run or open when the key is pressed. Everyone is free to make requests. There is one request to emulate virtual hard keys and I will try addressing that later. I am not trying to match AEBP. I did this a.) becausse AEBP is a bloated all purpose app; mine is tailor made for the X1, and much smaller and lighter; b.) AEBP costs money; c.) AEBP cannot create a ctrl key or grab FN keys; AEKM does, meaning purchasing another application. If there is something more you would like to see the app do let me know. Otherwise, I have laid out everything that is in the plan already.

Glad you got that worked out. I thought there would be something of this nature.
Hi JKingDev,
I have tired X1BC for only one button so far (long press ok button to switch to 2nd today). So far everything is working quite nicely.
With AEBP I was facing a significant battery capacity drainage this was for me the main reason to look out for another button mapper. At least in my configuration I was able to reproduce this battery problem (I had 3 buttons asigned with a double click function and the action menue). But this is reported allready (Touch HD forum, because it happens on the Touch HD as well). It is realy a pity, because AEBP is a great application and was the very 1st I was installing on a WM phone.
As long as there is no UI maybe you could do a presetting of all those reg key with a samll cab file? And fill the dword with "0" - I understand that than the key has just its standard behaviour.
Because than I just have to type "only" my individual settings (I am lazy - I know).
For making program starting easier I have the idea to create in the reg keys a path name to a standard link such as
"\Program Files\X1BC\OKLongAction.lnk"
Than I create a new link for the program I want to start, rename it to "OKLongAction.lnk" and overwrite with this new link the one in the standard directory.
This would allow to make changes without playing arround in the regestry all the time.
Best regards & Many thanks for this great tool!

8) Change Date Format on TF2D Home Tab - Credit to nikmaster74 for pointing this reg edit.
Check registry HKCU\MUI\Curlang - if value is 1033 (decimal), most likely the date format will be american format (mmm dd, yy). Changing registry <SSdte> at this state will not change the date format at Home Tab.
How to change ?
Go to registry HKCU\MUI\Curlang - change value 1033 to 409 (decimal) - Save - Soft Reset >>> date on Home Tab will change to format dd/mm/yy (depending on what's at <SSDte>).
Now, if you want to change to other formats, go to HKLM\nls\overrides\SSDte and put whatever format you wish.
e.g. ddd dd/MM/yy will return a date Thu 29/01/09. Note: doing this will also change date format at other tabs like emails, messages, file folders, etc.
Note: Please rename file \windows\HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml to HH_0199_WeatherCities.xml
This to ensure that you can continue add/change cities at the Weather Tab

Hi Aza
That is a very good initiative.
Further to my earlier post on why there is no customisation on Jade, this thread commence at the right time. Compare to other threads like Diamond, there are lot of customisation efforts contributed. I hope this thread can be like them.
Hi Zahidi,
We are lucky having you here..
Ths for leading us to customisation.
I found your phonepad and installed. It is really nice. Ths again.
I have walked around skins topic, it is more than 500 pages..
Can you lead me where I can find your skin especially Today screen top stripe in where there is "start"..

Customise The Operator / Service Provider Name
Three registries are involved :
1) HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\ONSDisplayRule
2) HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RIL\Operator Names
3) HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\LongNamePrefix - (optional)
A) To show customised operator name (other than the default operator)
Edit HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\ONSDisplayRule = 0 (DWORD decimal) (default = 9 or others)
And then at
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RIL\Operator Names
Look for a 5 digit code "MCCNC", where MCC is 3-digit country code, and NC is 2-digit network operator's code. for example:
50219 - Malaysia Celcom GSM 900/1800
23415 - Vodafone UK
20801 - France Orange
For country and network codes (MCCNC), go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Network_Code#U
If your code is already listed, then edit/change the contents (text) to anything you want to be displayed.
If not, then add the 5-digit code and the text (name) to be displayed. SOFT RESET.
B) HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\LongNamePrefix
This registry is for 3G network (if you have). Change this text string to whatever you want to be displayed. SOFT RESET.
If there is no 3G network or you're not on 3G, this will not be displayed.
or set HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\Enable3GLongNamePrefix to 0 to hide the 3G text.
C) To show operator name based on the SIM card used (default operator), set HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\ONSDisplayRule=1 (DWORD decimal)
Note: You can hide operator name using Manila2D Customiser, but when you use the phone dialer function, the operator name will appear at the top left hand corner. By using steps A and B above what you customise will be diaplayed (see picture)
Lock Phone Using SoftKey
Credit to izzyzc for sharing with us.
Instead of locking your phone using the default "Long press right (red) button", you can assign a Softkey to do it.
Method 1
If you have Manila 2D Customiser, go to "SoftKey" tab and insert in SoftKey Name: "Your Own Text" and SoftKey Command: \windows\EndKey.exe
Method 2 - Registry Edit
Go to HKLM\Software\HTC\manila2D\Home\
Edit SK2Cmd = \windows\EndKey.exe (for right softkey, replace the default "Program")
Edit SK2 = "Your Own Text"
SOFTRESET
great efforts nicely done.. this thread should be made sticky.. will be easier for us to refer it in the future
Customise/Manage Phone Call/Contact
Others may have their preferences .... This is just to share how I do it.
By default, making a call is via Phone Pad or People Tab or Call History. Making SMS is via the Mesage Tab. Another way is by using a Contact application (my choice is iContact Burt Edition) where you can both make a call and SMS. Assign it to a softkey (default Phone softkey is redundant). I customise like this ...
By azahidi
With this you can tap Contact to invoke your contact application and make calls or send SMS, edit or manage contact from there. Other contact apps may vary in functions. If you're happy with the default Windows Contact program, you can also assign it there (save one tap from Start)
How to Customise ?
Method 1
If you have Manila 2D Customiser, go to "SoftKey" tab and insert in Left SoftKey Name: "Contacts" and Left SoftKey Command: \directory\your contact application.
Method 2 - Registry Edit
Go to HKLM\Software\HTC\manila2D\Home\
Edit SK1Cmd = \directory\your contact application
Edit SK1 = "Contact" or your own text

Easy Access to Wi-Fi
If you frequently use wi-fi and need for easy wi-fi connection, I suggest this method (instead of the default method i.e. slide to Settings Tab - Communications - Wi-Fi (requires 3 steps)
Use a simple application - I recommend AKToggleWifi - download here http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/get-aktogglewifi.html There may be other apps that you prefer.
1) Method 1 - Fastest Way - Just one tap.
Attach it to a softkey - examples and method shown here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3287551&postcount=12 and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3265999&postcount=10
Once done , just tap the softkey to invoke Wi-Fi and tap again to close
2) Method 2
Attach it to Start Button (use Start - Settings - Personal - Menus). This will require 2 taps. This is how I do it as I use the softkeys for somethig else.
3) Method 3
Put the wi-fi apps in Programs Tab. This also requires 2 taps.
someone please help me.

First of all, there are many problems and solution provided if you follow the M2DC thread. Anyway, I'll share my experience with M2DC ...
So far I have no problem with M2DC. I changed my M2D in many ways many times. Usually it takes about 5-10 secs to take effect, no need to soft reset. It will revert to M2D in 5-10 secs after you tap "Apply".
However, if it takes abnormally long time ( > 2 mins) just push the softreset button (inside back cover), while the wait cursor is still turning, and it should take effect. I suggest that you customise one item at a time.
Hope that helps.
"I suggest that you customise one item at a time."
I'll try this. thx.
As part of customization effort on Jade, does anyone ever try this:

It is a damn good customization gimmick from Diamond thread.
Wonder does it work with Jade?
Also dont know if it required Manilla 2D Customiser?

As the name suggest M2DC is for customising M2D (TF2D).

Can't rename xml file from file explorer
Hi Azahidi
I changed the date format of my jade following method number 8 on your post. It is okay and now there is the Day of the week before the date and year.
However, I cannot change this(attached) xml file because when i try to select it, the "rename" is not clickable on the menu. Is there any other way to rename it? I can't add cities to the weather menu as a result. Thanks in advance
Note: Please rename file \windows\HH_0409_WeatherCities.xml to HH_0199_WeatherCities.xml
This to ensure that you can continue add/change cities at the Weather Tab

DredSensor v1.3a:
=======================================================================================
Now DredSensor should be compatible with other device than HTC Touch Diamond.
Historically, if you have tried to play a game needing left and right key on an HTC Touch Diamond, you noticed that they are 2mm wide and if you click next to it, you get back to home page or to dialing menu etc...
So I've written a prog allowing you to lock these 4 keys actions and replace it by classical key event (VK_LEFT, VK_RIGHT, ...).
In that way you can play tetris, and use "Pick-Up" and "Hang-Up" keys for going left and right.
I extended it to let you configure each app independantly, and choose between four (five) mode:
"HardKeySimul": replace the 4 keyz by classical key event
"Launcher": allow you to quicklaunch 4 app (that you define in the config wnd) when you double tap (not click, just tap) on one of those 4 keyz
"Scroll": allow you to scroll the current window by tapping those 4 keyz panel
"KeySimul": allow you to send left/right/up/down events by tapping those 4 keyz panel
"--- Disabled ---": Disable specific HTC Touch Diamond Sensor functionalities.
Now, i've added an alternative Key Mapping, that let you map an action (or another key) on normal click and long click event on any other key that the up-described four.
So if you don't have an HTC Touch Diamond, the only mode you can choose is "--- Disabled ---" but you can define "other key mapping".
Link ->: DredSensor-v1.3a
To use it, you need:
1) A Windows Mobile SmartPhone
2) Install the .cab
3) Reboot your SmartPhone
4) Run a game (or app or ...)
5) Get your stylus out and back-in, in less than 1 second
6) Click "Yes"
----- A config window opens:
7) Choose the Type you want.
8) Reassign the actions to the events, if needed.
9) Assign "other key mapping", if needed.
10) Click "Ok"
Other Key Mapping:
To add a key mapping, a popup opens and ask you to press a key.
If you want to assign an action to normal clic, just clic on the choosen key.
If you want to assign an action to long clic, clic more thant 1 sec on the choosen key.
Then you have to choose the action, and it's done.
If you only assign an action to a long clic on a key, a short clic on this key should work transparently.
Have fun.

Thanks for the new version! And thanks for adding the OK button command!
Seems to be working better than the last version although pressing the back key (which I have mapped to click right) a few times in quick succession does seem to send a back command. Pressing the home key in quick succession doesn't have this problem.
Also, I can't get the scroll wheel to work despite leaving the "Block scrolling wheel" box unchecked. Am I doing something wrong?

Hmm.. For the scrolling wheel, i use a tricky solution that works on my HTC touch diamond. May be it doesn't work on your model or on your rom version...
If someone have an idea on how to send a "ZoomIn" or "ZoomOut" event to a window (or how to develop an application that catch ZoomIn and ZoomOut events), that would help a lot...
As far as i studied the problem, it seems that ZoomIn and ZoomOut events are equal to Up and Down keys, but comming from a "rocker" .. so I can send those Up/Down key events, but no idea of how to tell that this comes from a "rocker" (and i don't even have an idea of what a "rocker" is...)
Help?
Wow, this is great! I am still loving the ability to remap my home key (and the others), and I really like the new scroll wheel feature. Actually, for me, instead of zooming in some apps, it now seems to scroll just about everywhere -- which is perfect, I like that more anyway.
Is there any way to donate or buy you a cup of coffee? I'd like to as a thank-you.

TF3D and DredSensor don't play nice together
This program is awesome! You can do so much with it! However, I am having one small issue with it. It appears that if I use it on Manilla [TF3D], that it works initially, but over time it seems to stop working and ends up freezing Manilla. The start icon still works, all the unmapped hardware keys still work and the task bar is still live. Only Manilla is frozen. If I don't map any keys on Manilla, it works fine for hours. But it only takes about 1 or 2 hours before there is a freeze on Manilla.
Any thoughts on how to correct this? I would love to use this program from my Home screen on Manilla.

Well, disabled means "DredSensor is disabled" so it's normal that your hw key do what it's supposed to.
If you want to disable the hard key, you can:
- set Type: Launcher
- set "Click" action = "Misc:Nothing" on one of the keys.
So it will catch the hard key action, and do nothing when you click on it.
For me it doesn`t work :/ windows "Wait" gif is always apperaing when i want to add new Event. :/ And there is no Events on the list ...
tried that but same when i press home it goes to home

Dredger, I asked in the last thread, but didn't get a response.
As far as mapping other buttons goes, could you post a quick example of what I would type in the config.ini to map the center D-pad button to act as the "left" button.
I realize the buttons commands are listed in the link you provided in your first post, but I'm having a little bit of trouble figuring this out.
Thanks.
Great app btw.
I'm gonna have to have another go at this... For some reason I just can't wrap my head around the setup of the program.
I am proud to present Need To Write!
It's a text editor unlimited by file sizes and offers a lot of customization and power tools

Difference between Paid and Free version is mainly in the poweruser options.
Paid version mainly adds lotsa poweruser options ;D
1) Remembers up to 9999 undo/redo operations
2) Control over the End-Of-Line characters (Apple, Unix and Windows tend to handle different End-Of-Line differently when doing plain text editing)
3) Allows user to specify buffer size
4) Allows custom fonts and background images
5) Allows user to customize 6 extra Themes in addition to the built-in 3 Themes.
6) Allows toggling of word wrap
7) Continuous Text to Speech.
8) Automatic backup of multiple files to user specified locations on SD card
Free version:
1) Remembers just 1 undo/redo operation, plus 1 reset buffer
2) Defaults to Android EOL handling
4) Fixed 10000 buffer size
5) Custom fonts and backgrounds disabled. You can still paint over the existing 3 themes with a solid color though, just adjust your Opacity bar in your themes dialog.
6) Customization of 3 built in Themes.
7) Always wordwrap
8) Text to Speech reads single paragraphs only.
9) Automatic backup of 1 file to user specified location on SD card
Version 1.71 features:
1) A File List, which works like a Bookshelf/Task_list/Recent_files hybrid management system. So basically, you can use it as a Task list, text bookreader, and text file editor as well.
2) Edit mode with unlimited file size, and tracking system to resume your reading/editing progress.
3) HTML mode! Supports non html files as well.
4) Text to Speech! I'm gonna use it to listening to ebooks when my eyes are tired
5) GoTo, Search, Replace, Cut, Copy, and Paste
6) Multiple Undo and Redo with undo history up to 9999(for the full version). Also comes with a sliding bar to easily rewind and fast forward the changes you made.
7) Themes! Customizable display; you can specify your own background images, custom fonts, background and font colors, line spacing, indents etc.
8) Landscape mode
9) EditText view with inertia scrolling, and yet no irritating problems of the view rectangle not being called to show your cursor, nor the rectangle jumping all over the place when you try to place your cursor far away.
10) Toggleable word wrap and autocapitalization (if supported by keyboard app)
11) Specify what End-Of-Line chars for saving your files with.
12) Tons of encoding options from ISO, windows 125_, Cyrillic, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, etc.
13) Share your files or just specific lines of selected text via email, bluetooth etc.
14) Automatic backup of files to user specified locations on SD card
15) HTML mode to easily switch between plain text and HTML view
If you like what you see, download now!
nice, gonna try it after i re-flashed my phone today.
hope the html view is up soon. gotta love it!
Latest version 1.3 is up!
Major changes are:
- Bookshelf/memo_list/recent_files hybrid system. Basically, you can use it as a memo list, bookreader, and text file editor.
- Fixed most of the pesky question marks by using windows-1252 as the default encoding.
- Added a lot of encoding options from ISO, windows 125_, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.
- Themes! Customizable themes, and you can specify your own background images (Paid version only).
- Share your files via email/bluetooth etc.
- Built in file browser
- No more popup nag box! :s
New version 1.35!
New features:
1) Toggleable word wrap
2) Specify which type of End-Of-Line chars to use when saving files, '\r', '\n', or '\r'+'\n'
3) Improved Find/Replace and GoTo function. Background no longer dims.
4) Stability fixes, some quite important ones. Make sure you update if you haven't yet!
New version 1.40!
NTW now talks! Comes with ability to adjust pitch, speech rate, and supported languages.
But be warned, I think Android's Text to Speech is a bit buggy, so the voice doesn't really respond consistently to my controls for pitch and speech rate.
Edit: I found out it does respond consistently, but I have to be patient and wait for the next sentence to play naturally, instead of pressing stop and play for instant replay
v1.41 is out. It only patches NTW crashing due to certain Text to Speech settings. Download if you encounter this crashing.
maybe you can add it to market?
It is in the Market already, right from day 1.
Ok, I think I've solved the crashing problem some of you may be experiencing. Hopefully anyway......
v1.42
- Patches NTW crashing due to your phone's Text to Speech settings or lack of TTS.
- More encodings: ISO-2022 for JP, KR & CN. KOI-8R for russian.
Great great great app Man !!!
It's exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks a lot, and long life to NTW.
Do you plan any multi language option ? If so, I could translate it in French !
I have also few suggestions. ;-)
-It would be great to have the setting menu directly in the first page like other app.
-The preview under the text file is not necessary. It takes a lot of place. (it could only be an option)
-It could be nice to have a choice to select default directory.
-It's could be also an option to view or not last opened files
I have a little trouble. When I select a recent file from the list, I have this message:
<<Bug. Try Forget file then reopen again>>...but everything seems to be fine. And if I reopen, I have the same message.
Thanks for your answers.
Hi, its great to have more feedback from NTW users!
Thanks for your offer to translate. Currently I am not planning any multi-language option since the number of NTW users is still really small :'-(, plus I really have no idea how to go about implementing multi-language menus and popups elegantly, heheheh...
-It would be great to have the setting menu directly in the first page like other app.
I'm not sure what you mean... Are you talking about a row of options under the main editing window?
-The preview under the text file is not necessary. It takes a lot of place. (it could only be an option)
-It could be nice to have a choice to select default directory.
Yup, certainly doable. I'll try to implement them in the next version
-It's could be also an option to view or not last opened files
Do you mean to open the last opened file automatically simply by opening the NTW icon?
If so, I think I can implement that as well in the next version.
However, I will be very busy for the next 2 weeks in a horrible place called Clementi Camp, with no basic modern amenities, not even internet, sob sob sob :'-( , so any updates will have to be in April.
In the meantime, you can try creating a shortcut to your "default folder" on your home screen, then open your desired file with NTW directly from the folder.
About the bug you encountered, I have not managed to trigger it myself even though I coded the check for the trigger and I am using Galaxy S myself. It occurs due to issues when calculating the file percentage you are currently viewing. I would recommend that you first try a long press in the main file list menu to forget the file, then reopen it. If you still get the same message, then it would be best to avoid using GoTo, but otherwise, you should be able to continue your editing normally.
I will look into it when I'm back to civilization.
What functions are disabled in the Free Version?
Cool! This app's pretty sweet!
Just got out of Clementi camp! Thanks for your compliments and feedback! :')
The free version disables the ability to specify End-Of-Line chars, word wrap, font type, background textures, and buffer size (called "Chunk size" within NTW's controls). Text to Speech is also handicapped to single lines in the free version. The full version also allows up to 6 extra custom themes to be created.
I have no time to do any serious programming as I have to return to Clementi camp tomorrow, so any version updates you have suggested by will have to wait til next week earliest.
Just want to say this before I explode.
Multiple undo/redo at last!
In fact, there's even a sliding bar for you to easily rewind or fast forward all your changes.
It'll be available in the Android market within the next few hours!
Trial version gets a measly undo history of 1, just enough for "****! I accidentally deleted the whole paragraph!" situations.
Paid version gets undo history of 9999. In theory, I could make the history even longer, since the undo history only stores the specific characters that were changed/added, but if the user were to do a lot of pasting/deleting of long text segments, then the undo history may occupy the phone memory pretty fast, so lets not risk it.
Heheheheh!!! Always wanted to implement multiple undo/redo, but only recently figured out how to do so efficiently
v1.45
- Multiple undo/redo! Undo History bar allows easy rewinding or fast forwarding of your changes, maxed at 9999 steps.
"Reset chunk" replaces the original Undo/Redo menu option.
Clicking of "Reset chunk" is recorded in Undo history.
Note: Free version has Undo history of only 1 in addition to "Reset chunk".
- Improved File Browser
- Streamlined File List interface.
Long press to view the preview, file properties, "Forget" and "Share" options.
NTW v1.47 is out!
Basically, this update makes the search, goTo, and undo/redo operations much easier than before. It also makes much better use of the space at the top which was previously just showing the filename and current %.
- Implemented fast scroll thumbs for browser and NTW shelf .
- Icon toolbar for convenient undo/redo, goTo, search, load next/prev chunk. Long click of undo/redo buttons pop up the undo history bar. Click the % display to shwo the goTo dialog.
- Improved goTo function.
NTW v1.48 is out!
- Fast scroll thumb for the main text box! (Built from scratch, whew! The behavior of ListView's fast scroll thumb was really tough to emulate properly )
- Progress bar above icon bar to show you where is your currently loaded chunk.
- Search backwards in addition to searching forwards. Plus some tweaks to search behavior
yes, very nice app.. thanks a lot
been using this as my default app since the day you release it. thanks man!
