I see all of these custom ROMs for providers like Verizon, Sprint, etc. I have an HTC Touch CDMA phone from my local cell phone carrier.
How would I go about installing a custom ROM to my phone and ensure that it still works on my carrier's network?
Is there a way to back up my current ROM in case things go south?
who are you with? Cellular South works with OMJ's roms and with nfsfans new generic 6.5 rom on page 238 of his thread. You have to unlock with coke 2.31 unlocker and upgrade radio using Bell's latest official rom. (remember to soft reset before customizations run so you don't get bells settings). Then you can flash pretty much anything you want.
Just don't flash anything carrier specific or you have a real headache since we have no offical Cellular South rom to flash back to.

I'm with Mohave Wireless, if that helps.

I've an unlocked European Hero, now in Canada. Is it at all possible to install the radio from the Telus Hero on this phone to alter the baseband 3G frequency, or is it hardware controlled? Anyone have success doing this?
You can not flash any radio roms as it is included in the current rom in your Hero. To flash replacement radio you need to take journey to Rootway.

I'm not sure what any of that means?
To answer the OP, I *doubt* that it would work, but doubting and knowing are two completely different things. It is conceivable that the physical radio hardware is the same from the Telus Hero to the EU one, and if it is flashing the Telus radio would probably work.
However, you run the serious risk of bricking your phone if the radio hardware is not identical.
Regards,
Dave
it won't work. idk whether it would brick the hero, but you can not alter the frequency related settings as they are hardware dependant. if you want 3g get the right device for your provider, no other way.
Hi Dave, Since he has unlocked EU hero, I doubt radio rom can be flashed at all but after flashing a new recovery he may be able to flash one fron the radio rom sticky as they are generic radios? Please correct me. Thanks.
People have flashed EU Hero radio rom onto Telus Hero (mainly because they want to root and install custom roms, but that requires downgrading the Hero first, and the downgrading process require the use of EU roms). Initial reports indicated some dialing problem on the Telus Hero with EU Hero radio rom. While flashing a newer radio rom fixed that, some people are still reporting some SMS problem.
One important thing to note though, using the EU Hero radio rom on Telus Hero does not get away Telus Hero's 850/1900 3G compatibility. This indicates that EU Hero 850/1900 3G incompatibility is not due to radio rom restriction.
As a matter of fact, the two are two different hardwares. The EU Hero (and all Asian) has product # HERO100 while the Telus one is HERO130.
Based on my experience with HTC devices, I'm pretty sure it's the same hardware. We need to focus on the baseband. Need someone with such skills like Geohot. Anybody?
Hello,
I was going to purchase a Telstra 9193 Australian version which has HESPA 850. My question is regarding flashing a custom rom. If I leave the radio stock and flash a rom will it work since it has a different frequency?
Anyone bought one for use with Telus or Bell or guess AT&T and flashed a custom rom? I have been reading about a setting for frequency?
Also do you know where I can get the stock Telstra rom so if i need to go back?
Thanks
I imagine it should work as long as the radio rom is intact, but I'm not positive and would also like to hear from somebody who has tried using the Australian Phone.
I would gladly buy another HD2 to get US 3G...not on T Mobile.
I have the Telstra HD2 it works with 3g in NA with flashed roms and also with upgraded radio ( currently I have the 2.8)

The Australian version is compatible with carriers who run 3G network on 850Mhz (Rogers, AT&T, Telus, Bell ...). I`m using one right now with Rogers. This 850Mhz frequency is hardware related and can`t be altered by flashing the radio. On some custom ROMs which required to use certain radios to enable the 576 RAM.
Should be fine

I've flashed two ROMs (including a 23541-build) on to two different 9193s (the Telstra model - I don't believe there is any 9393 model), and they have been working fine. Better than the stock ROM. Also flashed the Radio on those phones to 2.08.50.08, and no problem there either. My bet is that you'd be fine.
Hey I'm using it on telstra in Aus, and I also have found no issues. Works well, no stress.
Well guess I will be flashing Thank you for the replys. I was getting confused with some saying there was a frequency setting in the rom and i did not want to brick my device.
I am very interested in using the Artemis rom on this Telstra 850mhz device. If anyone is doing that please let me know.
THANKS!

You will lose the 850Mhz frequency in the frequency setting when you flash the custom ROM. The reason for that, I think, is because the custom ROM is built from the EU/Asia base system. But no worry, there's a .cab from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624108&page=6 (post 58) where you can restore the Australian version frequency setting

Unless you are flashing a crap rom you wont loose this. I haven't lost this in any rom I flashed. Just because the phone doesnt offer the hardware doesnt mean wimo doesnt show the bands look at the tp1 tp2 from europe both showed 850 as an option just didnt work for hsdpa
I am new to the HTC/Android platform. I just brought a Virgin Canada branded Legend which has the 2.02.666.03 firmware. I am planning on using the goldcard method to put a stock rom on it and debrand it.
However, I am not sure which is the right rom. I came from a Nokia where flashing firmware from the wrong region can brick a phone (because of the wrong radio bands). Not sure if the same goes for HTC phones. Are the roms labeled WWE the same thing as North American roms?
I am guessing I should be using RUU_Legend_HTC_WWE_2.03.405.3_Radio_47.39.35.09_7.08.35.21_release_130330_signed.exe?
Thanks for helping out a newbie
Another newbie q, while we're at it...what about the internet settings when you flash..will those automatically be set again?
I'm currently running the 3.14.405.2 WWE ROM on my unlocked/unbranded retail HD2 on the T-Mobile network, but HTC have made available a new T-Mobile (UK) ROM 3.14.110.1. What is the difference between that ROM and my existing WWE ROM? Is there any point in me flashing with the T-Mobile ROM, or would that be a retrograde step?
Thanks.
if you want exactly the same rom that you already have, but with t mobile branding, and probably tmobile proxy settings making the web worse, go for it!
If a nice t mobile splashscreen isn't what you are after, dont bother.
Translation - the roms are the same, just the t mo one has t mo branding.

T-mobile and 02 branded phones take an age for updates to become available. The HTC 3.14 ROM has been available since Oct, and 02/T-Mo have only just released it. And I'm certain there has been at least one HTC update not released by 02. The branded phone ROMS prevent you from flashing HTC ROMs without HSPL, I've just sent my 02 branded to the shop and they sent it back brand free but with the Cotulla HSPL. Not a massive turn-off if you don't mind flashing and installing HSPL, but not ideal if you just want to use your phone.
Personally, I don't mind going through all the HSPL install and ROM flashing, so I'd go for WP7!!!
OK, I bought a HD2 of ebay, locked to T-Mobile, I live in Gibraltar where we only have one network provider (Gibtel) so T-Mobile is no good to me. Took phone to some dodgy Spanish shop and after some dodgy Spanish speak (by me) got the phone unlocked so can use my Gibtel Sim.
Problems up to now:
Radio now doesnt work +
Nor does bluetooth.
I'm such a divvie I cant even reset the phone whilst holding down the volume button to see what SPL, if any, is on the phone.
Anyhow, question is, to try and get bluetooth and radio back, if i update the rom through official HTC website, using T-Mobiles rom (the only one it will let me download) will this lock the phone back onto T-Mobile?

NO it will not lock thier phone back to T-Mobile. Once it is sim unlocked it will always be sim unlocked no matter what ROM you flash to it.
Also at the OP it is a reason why the HTC site will omly let you download the T-Mobile ROM for your HD2. The TMOUS can not flash any other official ROM but the T-Mobile ROMs as the other ROMs may not have the right radipo versions. The TMOUS can not be flashed with any radio versions 2.04,50,xx, 2.-05.50.xx, or any x.xx.51.xx radio version as they will brick a TMOUS. Go here to learn everything you need to know and be aware of when flashing a TMOUS HD2 with a Windows Mobile ROM. Also if you get any ROMs for the TMOUS from "[ROM]Leo 1.5 T-MOBILE Test & Stock ROMS" .
Do not use the 2.01 ROM as it has a 2.05.50.11 radio and will kill your HD2.
No, it will not lock the phone. Any firmware updates do not deal with lock function.
But it is better to use custom firmware (I use BOYPPC version) and you can update your phone to the latest radio version independently from main firmware.
You are all fantastic and I want your babies. Did official update and now everything works and phone still unlocked
