Somebody has trouble with WM 2005, ActiveSync 4.0 (in PC) is working not stable or hanging all the time and me too- Magneto with WinXP SP2, office 2003 SP1.
In my experience some solution can be improved as following:
1. ActiveSync via IR - very sample but too slow
2. ActiveSync via Bluetooth - sample and fast
3. ActiveSync via USB, we need to do some steps
+ Turn off firewall of OS windows
+ Open network cards on your Himalaya:: Settings/ Connections/ Network cards
+ Click "Remote NDIS host" and you can see: Marked " Use specific IP addres"
+ Click " Use server-assigned IP address"
+ Click OK
+ Connect your device to PC, ActiveSync must be working at least in my case

You can try remove activesync 4.0 and reinstall again, reset PC, turn off firewall and reconnect.
the problem i have is with outlook and activesync. whenever i try and use activesync, it pops up with some dialog about outlook not being configured correctly. which is true, seeing as I DONT USE OUTLOOK FOR ANYTHING! so why is this happening? it's not even set to sync email as i dont use outlook!

I noticed the same problem with AS 4 - it would only synchronise Favourites and Files.
Read the error messages carefully and you will find one telling you to use the 'Detect & repair' option on Outlook. I did so and it synced properly.
It was when I went back to Outlook Express that I realised that my OE wasnt the default email client anymore - Outlook had taken over that function. I made OE the default client again and AS stopped synchronising - went back to the same old error.
From the above I can only conclude that AS4 will only synchronise with Outlook and not any other PIM programmes. It also requires Outlook to be your default email client if you want to sync - slimy lil microsoft trick.
If you have a firewall, you will also notice that ActiveSync tries to send out email messages - this is both annoying and scary. Who are these messages intended for - Microsoft? I have blocked AS4 from sending emails on my firewall, but I still have to do a 'detect and repair' which sets Outlook as the default email client everytime I want to sync...

I got the same problem with my Win2003Server box.
If you are running XP then you need to apply Service Pack 2
If you are running 2003 then you need to apply Service Pack 1
Seems that these packs have files "netrndis.inf" and "Usb_Rndis.ndi" that fix our problem
If you will find these files could you pls send them here? I dont' have SP1 installed and cant find these anywhere ((
I can confirm this.
On my office notebook I don't have SP2 on XP and Activesync does not work via USB (Bluetooth works).
On my home PC I have SP2 on XP and Activesync works via USB.
I guess I have to try to get these files somehow.
Patric
Update: OK, I got netrndis, but I don't have usb_rndis...
Hi Patric,
Thanx for the file!!!
Can you also post: rndismpx.sys AND usb8023x.sys ?
So, hope we will find a solution for non-SPed WinXPs and maybe for non-SPed Win2003
Thx!
OK, the files are attached. Does this help? I'm still missing the USB_rndis.ndi file.
Cheers Patric

Thank you very much for the files! No need for the "usb_rndis.ndi"
It seems to be working on XP but not on my w2k3 box :-(((
Here what to do with files on XP:
1) Open "Drivers" subfolder in your ActiveSync folder (i.e., c:\program files\microsoft activesync\drivers)
2) Copy all three files there: netrndis.inf, rndismpx.sys & usb8023x.sys
3) Put your I-Mate to the cradle
4) When device installation wizard will ask you to proceed with Automatic or Manual installation you need to Choose "Manual". Then open your activesync's Drivers folder. Choose "Windows Mobile-based device" and wait until installation is finishes...
Good Luck!

Have no exact idea cause didn't have such, but try to:
1) Disable ALL possible firewalls
2) Make sure your current ActiveSync Partnership is not "Microsoft Exchange" and if it is, just delete current partnership and create a new one
3) Remove "Email" from your sync list?!
4) Remove "Favorites" from your sync list?!
thx..
but..I have no firewall turned on (i had only microsoft firewall, it's off)
I have never connected to an exchange server, my partnership in activesync is only with my pc.
I have reinstalled activesync, not useful
removing items could help.. i'll give it a try
i'm going to sleep for now, thanks..
I *think* longhorn is very nice, but i'll stay with xp
I copied everything and did the procedure... now I get the error message 'Device can not start (10)'...
Not successful yet...

ActiveSycn 4.0 Works after all!!!
I fixed my ActiveSync USB problem...
I downloaded ActiveSync 4.0 from Microsoft's web site and instlaled over current AS4.0.
When I placed my MDA2 on the cradle, the same problem persisted, so with the PDA still in the cradle I unplugged the USB connector and then connected it again but to another port. Now the system detected a "new" device and installed properly this time so now it works 100%.
I hope this procedure helps you too!
By the way, I'm on Win XP (no SP2) and USB 1.1
Best regards,
Rayan
Does the activesync 4 can sync WM2003SE? cuz i got problem saying that version incompatible..
Hi,
Can someone help me? I recently bought iMate JASJAR. I have no trouble to connect with Desktop with ActiveSync 4.1 and WIN XP Home SP2. However, I have troubles to connect with the PC at work running ActiveSync 4.1 and WIN XP Professional SP2. The PC detect USB and Mobile Device but has error message saying not connected probably and may not work properly......
The ActiveSync never get connected. Please help. Thanks.
William
I used to have the same problem, but I discovered, as did others on this forum, that plugging the USB connecter into the Universal while the Universal is off works best.
1. Push the power button on the Universal to turn it off.
2. Connect the USB cable.
3. The Universal turns itself on, and
4. ActiveSync connects and syncs.
HTH!
I think there are issues with firewalls and anti virus applications that also prevent Active Sync from working correctly, maybe that's where your problem lies?
Regards
Take a view your Windows firewall, then, open the exceptions and look about the ActiveSync and fix it.
Hi, Everyone: Thanks for the advise. However, I tried all you mentioned but still not working. My problem is the PC did not recognize the device from USB connection. I did try the windows firewall and make sure the check mark shown on all "ActiveSync" items. But it is still not getting recognized. I have no troubles for Win XP Home Editions w/SP2 at home PC. I am having the same AntiVirus and Internet Security (All from Symantec) on Home and Work PCs.
Please advise.
Thanks.
Wel, Be sure you have the last ActiveSync 4.1 version?
What do you think if you erase the program (in the PC that you have the problem) and install it again.
I had have the same problem and I did the way I share with you. Let me know if it works!
Luck.
Hi
I had same problem.
I fixed it by plugging my ppc into my laptop once that connected i then plugged it back into my main pc and bingo
_^.^_
Hi,
I did reinstall the ActiveSync 4.1. Then, the other finally recognize the device now. However, I have two other problems now:
(1) The Sync did not get completed. I always got Erroe Emssage saying "The ActiveSync encounters problems from desktop. Support Code: 85010014.
(2) Then, I tried to connect to the old machine which I Sync no problem before, now it processing the Sync forever.
It appeared that I cannot really Syn for both machines now.
Please advise.
Try to soft reset your ppc.
Regards,
Arto.
I have been struggling with a similar (perhaps the same) issue which I have just found the fix for.
The environment is Exchange2003 SP2, ISA2004, XP PRO SP2 laptop running Activesync 4.1, Win Mobile 5.0 phone edition PDA (Qtek 9000).
The PDA synchronises with Exchange Activesync Server via a cellular (GPRS) connection no problem.
The problem we had is when the PDA was attached to the laptop via the USB cable (or Bluetooth) - the error we got was " Your account in Microsoft Exchange Server does not have permission to synchronise with your current settings. Contact your Exchange Server Administrator. Support Code 85010001 " which is clearly cobblers because it syncs fine over a GPRS internet link. Also the PDA takes between 2-3 minutes to error out and I have seen some posts in other topics that interprett this delay as a failure.
The above symptoms occur after a hard reset of the PDA and a de-install / re-install of Activesync 4.1 on the Win XP Pro laptop.
The clue to the fix was that another domain user, using the same Win Mobile 5.0 device, and the same Win XP Pro laptop, had no problems via a USB connection and I could not see what was different about their AD / Exchange permissions.
It turns out that new domain users using Win Mob 5.0 PDAs have no problems whereas existing (older) users (possibly those who used PPC 2003) have got something in their domain profile that causes the problem. Solution is to delete the domain profile (a copy first would be wise) and recreate it - bingo problem solved.
Hi, Waltzing:
Thank you very very much about your comments. You are very correct. My case is with Notebook running XP Pro SP2 which I used at work and was connected to iMate PDA2K w/WM 2003 2nd Edition before. I wait for almost 2 hrs to complete the Sync at home computer. I am kind of concern I have to wait so long everytime. Any advise?
Can you tell me how to delete the previous Domain as you indicated in your reply. I try not to hard reset the PDA. I already re-install the ActiveSync 4.1 and it can connected now. However, the Support Code is still there. I tried to Sync individually, but I always have the same problems for Calendar and Contact which are the most critical items for me.
Another issue for Contact. I found that I have several contacts has a lot of info in Note in PC but got truncated to the PDA JASJAR after Sync. Is that normal? Is there anything can be done to keep those lenghty note in the contact?
Please advise the procedures.
I really appreciate.
Thanks.
Hello Williamchu, I have done some more testing and I have to make a correction - I have solved this problem but for me it was NOT a profile issue. It is likely to be to do with your work proxy server.
As I am sure you know - in order for a WM 5.0 device to sync with Exchange Server via a GPRS cellphone connection you have to tell WM 5.0 the Internet URL of the Exchange Server - typically something like mobile.somedomain.com
When you connect your PDA to your PC via a cable - Activesync (on your PC) will search for the Exchange Server via it's name e.g. mobile.somedomain.com - the problem is that, in many local area networks, Activesync cannot resolve mobile.somedomain.com to the IP address of the Exchange server except via a proxy server (in our case an ISA server). This is why Activesync appears to hang - it spends all it's time looking for an Exchange Server it cannot find (I have also seen it throw up sys errors 85020006 and 85010001 at this point).
Connect your PDA to your PC (via a USB cable) after you have logged the PC onto your work domain.
On the PDA go to Start > Settings > Connections > Connections
Under "My Work Network" you will see either "Edit my proxy server" or "Set up my proxy server" depending on wether a work proxy server has been configured or not. You need to know what your proxy server name is and check both check boxes. Your IT guys will tell you what your
proxy server name is.
My apoligies for the bum steer about profiles - I have a complex test environment and changed 2 things simultaneously (without realising it) to try to fix this problem one of which was a new profile - which as it turns out has nothing to do with the problem. I hope this fixeds it for you.
Hi, Waltzing: Thank you for the info. However, what if I did not even select the Exchange Server to start with ActiveSync. I don't need to Sync the server. I just need to Sync the local machine Outlook Personnel Folders not the Public Folders. I skip the setup part when ActiveSync asked me. I still get the same error message.
Another issue, How can I delete files from "Storage Memory", somehow, it is 97% full. I installed most of the program in Storage Card which I have 4GB and I have plenty room left. I don't know why the "Storage Memory" got so full. After I uninstall some programs, I only free up Program Memory but not the Storage Memory. Any idea?
Do you have any idea about the Contact Note got truncated?
Thank you for all your kindness and advise.
William
Williamchu, I will contact you about this.

William did u manage to finally solve the problem??
Hi
I have a KJam and I am trying to sync it at work. I downloaded AS 4.1 on my Win2K pc but it keeps giving me the Retrieving Settings message for ever. I dont think there is firewall on the pc and I need some help to get it running
Thanks a lot
any help guys, still have the problem
XP Needed
i think you have to use microsoft windows xp to sync your wizard.
So no luck with Win2K, I thought that people can do it with Win2000 and aslo from Microsoft Site AS seems to be working on 2000
Thats really bad
Me too
I also have this problem with one Wizard - my wife also has a Wizard, exactly the same which has no problem syncing to the same PC. I get the same message you get " retrieving settings" which hangs for ever until I disconnect. I'm on W2k.
Did you find and answer? It's obviously not a W2k issue if one Wizard can sync.
No I cant still sync with WIN2K, someone suggested that you do hard reset and it should work. I tried on mine and still didnt work
A random guess- applied SP4? Also which firmware version you are using?
Finally I have it working!
William - Yes, I'm on SP4
Akronica - I've finally managed to get both Wizards sync'ed. Here's what I had to do. Firstly, I'm using Sygate Personal Firewall, so I follwed the directions via the link here to set up the advanced rules. See http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/tshoot-as4x.htm This also might be useful to you for troubleshooting.
Then I added/altered 3 registry settings in my PPC (as also mentioned in the above link) using a freeware called "PHM Regedit". I downloaded the PHM Regedit from here:
http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=31
Just a note: I obviously couldn't use the ActiveSync installer to get this product installed, so I copied the entire directory over to my phone (via mini SD card) and then tried to launch each file. The first few didn't install successfully, but I finally did get one to install OK. The file that worked for me was "regedit_Mrln_ARM.CAB".
So, after all that I connected up and as soon as the cable was in, I soft reset the PPC. Sure enough, it made a new connection via the connection wizard and off it went.
Another note: I also turned off any passwords on the PPC, just in case. I'll do some more playing and see if this makes any difference.
Hope this helps!
Rob

Interesting
On mine it connects (win2k SP4), but drops the connection about 60s into sync.
I've now confirmed that the passwords had no impact.
I don't have any problems with it dropping connection either.
Wow yeah, I've had absolutely no problems synching with my win2k sp4. hm.
how can i do it ???
i was reading some questions inquiring on google...but don´t work nothing
i put the famous key on register...but nothing

Last week I tried to upgrade to WM6 using vista. Shortly after erasing the ROM it crashed and would not connect. I started the upgrade, as it would not sync with Outlook 2007. Something to do with Task.
I’m not sure that the following was what cured it. I added a task on the XDA, and it successfully synced.
However following the crash, I could not connect to the upgrading program. I kept getting a 101 connection error.
Unfortunately the only way I got it to work was by using my other PC with XP on it, and then going back to Vista. Now its great, and back on the road.
i have the same problem, but on my home i have win xp and no problem, but on work i have a pc wiht vista and i can´t downgrade to xp. i must work on vista
i am thinking about upgrade the pocket to wm6 but i am reading some webs and everybody has the same problem with wm6 !!
im using wm6 and its OK
u have to upgrade WMDC to the latest version..it works perfectly with me

I installed Vista on a second partition and kept XP on another partition. That way I could keep my documents and the like on the XP partition and access them from either XP or VISTA. Benefits included keeping the one set of e-mail folders and content as I migrated various programs (such as PocoMail) across to Vista. And yes, they all work—and faster than my now bloated XP could handle things. I am using a 2002 ASUS A7V8X Mobo but every other component was new in 2007-08.
All went well, including synchronising my O2 XDAII Pocket PC (PPC) running SIN’s famous version of Windows Mobile 2003 SE—ROM version 2.06.00WE. I used Windows Mobile Device Centre and successfully and synced Calendar, Contacts and the like with Outlook 2007. After a couple of weeks, the PPC would no longer sync ... connect via USB, yes ... but WMDC 6.1 turned into Windows Mass Data Corruption.
Well, I tried the usual tricks that others have put forward like rolling back to WMDC 6.0, as Neville Lang suggested in the following extract wherein he:
Uninstalled the two Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 items from the
Control Panel > Programs and Features list
Manually deleted the contents of the C:\Windows\WindowsMobile folder.
Initially I could not delete some DLLs but once the two "Windows Mobile
device connectivity" services were stopped from the Task Manager, I was able
to delete the rest of the files in the WindowsMobile folder, except for the
en-US folder containing the *.MUI files. I could not delete them and so
decided to leave them.
Using Regedit, deleted all entries from the following two keys that
related to my two devices:
* HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\Partners
* HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows Portable Devices\Devices (He left
in the entry for my memory card)
Using Windows Explorer, deleted all files in the following folder:
* C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles
With his two Pocket PCs disconnected, tapped on Start > Programs >
ActiveSync > Menu > Options, highlighted the Windows PC and tapped on and
the Delete button. Both of the PPCs had two entries in here so there could
have been some confusion on the desktop at some point, so he deleted both of
them. They do not sync with any other computer.
Rebooted (Restarted) the Windows Vista computer
Reinstalled WMDC 6.0 from the Microsoft Download website.
Recreated the two relationships from the two devices, and they each did
the initial long sync
He then tested each device that it could perform a sync not long after it
was reconnected, and they both now sync perfectly. He also tested that making
any changes to some contact details in Outlook 2007 would update
But this didn’t work for me. Nor did opening specific ports in the firewall (e.g., WMDC--port 990). So I went back to WMDC 6.1 and thought about the matter. It seemed that I had done two things that might have had an effect
1) On the PC installed a VPN to a mapped drive on a work server; and
2) On the PC installed a cable line speed monitor (TCP/IQ) because I never believe the promises made by my ISP about the speed I get.
I uninstalled the line speed monitor and made sure I never connected to the VPN when trying to sync the PPC. I use SunnySoft’s BackUp Manager and so I restored a complete version of the PPC’s system and files from a few months earlier. Next I restored the current calendar etc. from the XP sync with Outlook 2003.
Next came the connect via USB with success and no more problems. I have concluded that while I think I know what went wrong, the PPC was also suffering from the aborted WMDC sync efforts. There is no way around having full backups and being able to take a few steps back to a time when all was well.
Life is good again ... for a while ....

Hi,
I was able to install activesync but not to get PC and 3G synchronized.
In explorer, I can "see" it but no synchronization (in My computer I have an icon "mobile device", when I doubleclick I get no detaiel, no folders, no file
When I try to link (USB is checked) I get a message saying nothing can be found
When connecting, on the 3 G I get 3 options... the uppermost is "Activesync"... this is checked
Can somebody help or show me the threads to be read (and that realy help)
Thanks
ActiveSync only works with XP, not with Vista or Win7. For Vista download Mobile Device Center. Install first and then connect. happy thrills.
I'm using XP...
I can copy files to and from the device, but no activesync...
Strange.. still no solution to this problem.
r u using illegal win xp?
Nope... laptop so...
Do you have any software firewall installed? Might be a reason, had it before..
Try uninstall and reinstall ActiveSync and associate the device again. It worked for me once before
I had some problems with activesync and data transfer. It would sync but would disconnect after a while during file transfer. I was told it was an unusual problem. Nevertheless, the nice people at HTC changed the mainboard and I'm now problem free. They mean it when they say they are people centric. I'm a potential customer for life!
