Admit it! You guys would rather have the Xperia be a bar phone. The only thing good about the keyboard really is the fact that it's beautiful and that it's tactile.
But seriously, the keyboard design is too minimal! Wouldn't you guys rather have it be a bar phone so that there is more space for better hardware? It's also hard to type super fast, atleast as super fast as Sidekick.
I bet that, you could have a 1 gig processor like that one upcoming Toshiba phone and 512 ram + larger memory.
Seriously the internal memory is too small, most of the time I only have 40-70 megabytes left.
And the CPU is slow, especially with all the today plugins (or ROM's i guess)
I realize that I never use the hardware keyboard, and that typing with Resco Keyboard and a stylus is much faster.
What do you guys think? Would you guys swap a keyboard for better internal hardware?
if I were to swap keyboard for something else I would not have chosen Xperia.
if you never use keyboard, seriously this phone is not for you. You are better off with Omnia, Diamond or Blackstone.
For somebody who does alot of messaging (and I'm not talking about a quick text reply but business email responses, etc), the keyboard is important.
fwiw, I have about 150MB of device storage, and 140-160MB of RAM after each soft reset. more than enough and if I need more, I have my 16G storage card although I admit I have already filled up to the brim with only 100MB of free space left.
Never used the stylus other than calibration of screen.
I use the HW keyboard all the time.
…maybe you should consider changing type of phone, I mean, isn’t the HW keyboard one major advantage for the X1…
I bought the X1 because of the keyboard, because I never wanted a device without slide keyboard again since my Hermes days. What I would like with the X1 is a better keyboard. It is really a shame that they build such a device, whose key point is the keyboard and then build a pretty bad one. Sure, you can type with it and sure faster than with stylus or touch keyboards but not as good as many of its predecessors like Hermes - that's ridiculous.
Right, I bought the Xperia MAINLY because of the keyboard. But I realized that I am not that impressed.
I also did consider Black Stone too, but when I learned about it, I already had the Xperia.
hi. it's my first post as an xperia user and I want to say, that the keyboard is just perfect imho (once You'll get used to it...).
initialy I was worried a bit by it's small size, but after a while it just works! I was also thinking about getting touch pro and just after few days of use I won't look back.
count me as another happy then

bro
I don't know about you guys but the X1 keyboard is pretty darn good to me. The only problem with the keyboard is the space key where it's easy to accidentally press it twice without noticing it.

How many applications do you have installed? And I do to have the same amount of free RAM... but the phone is still slow. I also keep any unnecessary files off of the internal storage and on the external storage.
What about the software capabilities of Xperia compared to Blackstone? Is it any different?
The xperia keyboard is clearly the added value of this phone,
personnaly I type text messages as fast as some friends with Blackberry Bold or Nokia E71.
The keyboard is a definate winner here.
Ever since the trinity I'm never going without a keyboard again - typing using the screen is a pain. Guess you are either a Keyboard person or not, WM home screen person or not. I'm keyboard/WM homescreen person, and keep coming back to it.
Wrt speed/performance, I can't fathom why we seemingly took a step backwards with these Qualcomm processors (compared to the Axims/Marvells etc). HTC.
Anyway, performance of Xperia compared to 'recent' models is pretty good if not best. I say recent because there are some benchmarks out there which compare Xperia to older PDAs (circa 2007) - and the older models put current stuff to shame.
1. You can type VERY fast with the HW keyboard. WAY faster than with ANY touchscreen keyboard, because that's not multitouch I always use it for longer texts but I admit that I am too lazy to slide out the keyboard just to type a number or something, so for that purpose I have SPB Keyboard installed as well. But I'd never use it for, say, writing a full text message. Memory is no problem. You should know that internal memory is no designed for your private data such as Pictures, Music, Videos, etc. For that you should by a microSDHC card with for example 16 GB (I think there are even 32 GB versions). Then you have plenty of space for whatever bull**** you wanna store: I have 200 MP3s, 50 highres pics, 3 navigation softwares with maps of europe and 2 DVDs + the Cabs for the about 40 apps I have installed. THis stuff consumes HALF of my 16 GB so far. My internal memory is down to 7 MB. But I notice this is not due to the amount of software but rather to the fact that I install and uninstall a lot because I haven't figured out the best tools yet. I can really see that I'm losing memory, I never get all the space back that the installation consumed. I think after Hardreset and installing all the apps I have right now and nothing else, there'd be 50 MB left or even more. Not even MemMaid found something to delete, but there must be. Anyway, even if that was the end of space for me, I HAVE all the software I need. And I can tell you, I really have a lot.
I don't think we need more RAM. Why? 256 MB was enough to run Windows XP with 3 progs at once 7 years ago. So why would we need more for WM? That's not necessary and only consumes power. Higher CPU frequency would be nice, but it would have to be 2x the speed we have now in order to do any good. And what about the power consumption? After all, the keyboard doesn't use up so much space, you know. You could barely fit your business card in the gap.

most likely you are not impressed because you don't need a keyboard in the first place. You wasn't clear what's the must have, what's nice to have, you were just attracted by the slick curved keyboard, I suppose.

which ROM are you having? In my opinion, Xperia is actually the most performing WM device I have come across. Not sure about blackstone though since I have not used, but I'm comparing the likes of i780, Touch Pro/Raphael, etc. The touch sensitivity is also superior than the rest I have, a quick swipe or tap, the response is there.
in terms of software, it also depends on how many of them are system add-on (i.e. they run each time you soft-reset in the background), which are system utilities (you use it once awhile) and which applications you would multi-tasking. one thing for sure, if you install tools like Wisbar Advance, it's going to crawl your phone badly, and it's not just Xperia but all the WM devices.
fwiw, I have the following.
1. bejeweled
2. standard SE panels
3. facebook panel
4. google maps/search
5. sodoku
6. blackstone largetitle bar
7. blackstone startmenu
8. coreplayer
9. garmin mobile xt
10. volumecontrol
11. phm registry
12. fingerkb
13. plumsip
14. sip select
15. .NET CF
16. beyondpod rss reader
17. sms scrollbar fix
18. touchresponse
19. youtube
20. pin lock
21. rotate screen
22. screen capture
23. and many patched system files like the ICON, fonts, etc.
If it was not for the keyboard i would have got a htc hd or a blackberry storm.
specs are really good, could always want more but i cant see the extra specs letting me do something i cant do now.
Same here...Besides the fact that I'm an avid Sony Ericsson fan I did choose this model for the keyboard (and the looks). The only paradox is that I was typing faster with my older P1i than with the current X1i. Who knows ... maybe it's just me adjusting.
As regard to performance, if you install a lite custom ROM (like the nX1i) you get a lot of free space and free ram. I now have 80MB ram after having installed a lot of applications but that never has been an issue for me.
As for the processor...yea...why aren't we using the XScale processors? They could be overclocked...they had better performance/Mhz...Why Qualcomm?
Ditto, I bought the Xperia because it wasn't a bar phone. I hate how often XT9 gets my words wrong and I hate how long it takes to type abc with only 10 buttons and I hate how tempramental touch screens are with mistypes.
Whilst I agree that with the additional space you COULD have put in more/better hardware, but this phone is already as good as (if not better than) any WM device out there.
If I were to get rid of the keyboard, I probably prefer just a thinner phone.
The results say it all really!! Keyboard wins
crabby
PS: The Qualcomm processor is cheaper No matter how great the phone is, SE still want to make a profit.
I'd like to echo the sentiments exporessed here.
I came from the Touch HD to the Xperia. I like the keyboard. Being able to type letters as if on a computer is a plus for me. I mean predictive text is nice and all but its a pain when the word isn't in the dictionary and what not. Especially emailing is nice since your typing quite a bit. Its more accurate to me than using the touch screen.
Honestly I miss the larger screen of the Touch HD but thats why I'm eyeing the new Touch Pro 2. Seems to be a combination of the Touch HD and the Xperia in the since of a nice phone with a large screen and keyboard.

Right the spec to this phone are as good as Touch Pro, and Diamond, and maybe Touch HD too. And the blackberry touch OS is a forbidden ground for me. If this phone had more space could it have a faster CPU than the bar phones out now? Could it still defeat touch HD specs (although HD is bigger? Maybe HD is has thick layers of plastic I dont know)
I'd say YES. and btw, it's not the god darn RAM that slows down the device. Think about it, you got 256 RAM right? I only use like 33% of that. So why is this device slow? Cause this processor sucks, maybe more space could help?
More comments please.

The touch HD has a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay much larger screen.
Also the touch HD camera is even worst than the Xperia camera. How could a bigger device lack a freaking flash?
BTW, I am considering that new Toshiba phone, but it's fraeking ugly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hm i was surprised to hear someone blackberry keyboard is faster. I type faaster with numeric 1-9 keys than blackbery! Blackbery-stly keyboard suuck big time for me, like that on E61 i think. What a had before was Nokia E90, that was the king of keyboard, and i must say Xperia is not much slower, i doon't realy type that much slower on it, than i do on computer keyboard!
Realy i only whish they would make i phone, that has only 0.5mm thick place at the side of the screen, so that it is all screen, there xperia could have Touch pro 2's screen size on the same size of the device.
And less sharp edges, couse colour gets of them too fast and it look thicker.
But hey, dont you dare change the keyboard for X2!!

You know, the first phone I was gonna get was the communicator. But I decided to get an N95 but I realized the media player sucks big time, and I decided that I needed a super mega life organizer so I sold it to my bro and got the Xperia (while considering on getting HTC Touch Pro).
Back then I was looking for a beautiful very good keyboard. I tried the sidekick and I think it has the best keyboard ever. I have never touched an E90.

X1 is definitely going to be released in October in my country; but I'm still undecided about which one of them I will buy, here are what I like and dislike/less like with each one of them
X1
+ the best hardware design of the 3, I like the curved slide, I like those LEDs, I like the 3.5mm jack, I like the memory slot and finally I like that it is the most packed with hardware buttons than 'virtual buttons' found in the others.
+ the screen size/res
+ best video recording
+/- 384 final RAM which is still yet to be seen about the performance
+/- I like the panels, but IMO in their current condition they feel somewhat raw and lack of polish; the poker style stacked panels are useless and a waste of resources they should have been created something more functional for example like windows XP's filmstrip folder viewing style in which we could be able to switch between panels without having to press the panels button -which feel like unnecessary 'back' button-
- and with my previous point they should have add an accelerometer, so that other than finger swiping between panels (ala touch flo) perhaps we should be able to shake the X1 to switch between panels. (oh come on SE, even W910 had this, why not your flagship?)
- I'm not convinced as to whether SE has done a good job in reshaping the default WinMo UI or not, in fact based on previews, I didn't see anything has been done to it, they (SE) just babbling over and over and over about the panels
- I'm also worried about the pre-installed software, there are no info about anything else than Opera and handago client (which are quite useless in my country due to slow, somewhat unstable and rather expensive 3G cost) that will come with the phone, and it caught my eye that they integrated contacts in multimedia panels! Isn't it weird?
- rather small onboard storage
Touch Pro
+ Touch Flo 3D, IMO the only solution capable of rivaling Iphone's multitouch UI now in WinMo
+ somewhat more convincing keyboard
+ community support
+ 'hidden features' ----> which I'm doubting it will also exist in X1
- lack of 3.5mm jack
- glossy design
- 4:3 display
- slightly heavier than X1
- no stutter button for the camera
- ugly video recording res
- I''m not fond of the HTC's wheel button.
Omnia
+ sleek design
+ hapstick mode, anything full touch screen capable phone should have this feature, how come those phone makers designers didn't think about it
+ 5MP camera with face detection, smiley detection, geo tagging support out of the box
+ a quite good UI, including the reshaped default WinMo UI, it may not as appealing as Touch Flo 3D, but it is at least functioning well
+ 16GB storage + expansion, holy ****, this set the standard for the industry!
+/- largest display size between the 3, I've seen people bashing it res, but my experience with SE P900 was that the res are OKAY, in fact I can browse quite comfortably with my SE M600i which is smaller in size and display res compared to P900 *edit* I checked and realized that I was wrong about the display res in P900 compared to M600i, the M600i is more pixels packed, but still of course way behind X1, but my point is that those res aren't that bad like what many have criticized it.
- no physical keyboard
- no STYLUS slot lol, unless they have a screen with minimum 5 inch in diagonal never forget stylus!
- the display is said to be somewhat poor under sunlight
- only 128MB RAM
- somewhat just an average optical mouse/joystick pad with no d-pad capable like in X1
any suggestion? comments? I would like to hear things from those who have experience with TP and Omnia.
is there/will there be any device that could combine those 3 strength before next year?
You first must know, what you want to do with. Then the first decisionis with or without hardware keyboard.
I wouldn't do again without. In each software you have to make inputs like writing webadresses, logins or equal you loose a lot of the screen, if you don't have an hardware keyboard. For this reason, I would not do without.
If you don't need a keyboard compare the omnia with the new HTC touch hd. This has a bigger (3,8") and more powerfull (WVGA) screen.
With the omnia samsung went only the half way -the low resolution is not the future... But it is faster in some feelings, as WVGA. If you once had a VGA/WVGA, you will not do without any more. This is the opinion of ALL the people I know, who changed from QVGA to VGA or WVGA.
The touch pro may be not so bad, but for me the display is much too small. I am used to WVGA since a good year now and do not want to miss. The 160 Pixel more length are more than much usefull - I recognize it every day. Even 3" WVGA is a bit smaller than 2,8" VGA you feel the difference clearly.
For that reason the X1 is the only device on the market, I could buy. Never Toshiba again, because they have absolutely no custom service.
Or you could wait for the HTC HD Pro - the HD with a keyboard
probably will be too long to wait, and I haven't hear about HTC make that?

Nothing like that announced so far...
But knowing HTC they'll make it just to screw with me
If they were to suddenly announce a HD Pro, my Touch Pro might not be in once piece.
I don't guess HTC will make a touch HD Pro -to big, to heavy for their customers. But if they do so, I would think of buying it, even after having bought the X1. You know:
The better is the enemy of the good
Omnia comes with an awesome camera... but the most disappointing thing is its stylus and no slot to put it in. But it definitely has no comparison with Touch Pro and Xperia - not just 'cos of no keyboard, but because it lacks the power that those two sets carry - way too low RAM in comparison to them.
Furthermore, Omnia is limited to 16 GB Maximum. Both Touch Pro and Xperia can be expanded upto a whooping 32 GB - and not to mention since it is Micro SD, you can swap cards, put it easily in a card-reader and use as needed and so on.
Samsung Omnia is an extremely impressive set, but it definitely fails to impress when you bring in Touch Pro and Xperia into the ring. So... don't even consider that.
Touch HD is going to be the iPhone killer - full touch screen with improved touch sensitivity than Touch Pro and probably carrying far more features than the Touch Pro. The screen of the Touch HD goes head on with Xperia, but it leaves Xperia behind when it comes to the Camera as it has a 5 MP camera on its back.
So the question is... Do you want a keyboard on your device? If the answer is not necessary, then you should do be thinking Touch HD VS Xperia otherwise stick with Touch Pro VS Xperia.
There is no such thing as an "iPhone Killer". I don't know how often I have read "XYZ phone, the next iPhone Killer?" - and the answer is always "no".
It's not because the iPhone is so much better then other phones, it's because it has a superb marketing and some stylish gadgets included while Windows Mobile devices don't.
It's the same for iPod. There are for sure other good MP3 players out there, but everyone knows iPod.
So please let's stay away from this in this Xperia thread, because the iPhone got already killed as far as I'm concerned.

Actually i didn't mean it like that. Sorry for making it sound so. By 'iPhone Killer' i tend to imply a phone that can be considered comparable to the iPhone... one that gives the user a choice.
I have an iPhone and have been using it since over an year now, and i can pretty much say that it definitely will stand its ground in the market - well maybe its sales will reduce and all, but it'll stay.
@msalmank
I totally agree with you: The iPhone has its place and will stay.
One thing I'd like to add to this comparison between Touch HD/Pro and Xperia:
The Touch Pro has a weak 3G reception. I still wonder why this problem is never mentioned in such comparisons. Unfortunately we do not have enough information concerning the Xperia and reception quality, but it should be something well considered.
What is a 3,8'' Touchscreen worth if you have no signal to display the required information on it?
As far as I'm concerned, one of the basic features regarding a smartphone is still "connectivity". Weak connectivity = crappy phone.

Touch HD will be better than Touch Pro. We already have larger screen, more pixels on the camera, greater sensitivity on the touch screen... and so we can only wait an see if 3G receipt will be any better or not. But thank you for this, i've added this in the comparison above as #7...
And yep... the iPhone will definitely stay. Even i'm considering not to sell of my iPhone and keep it as an iPod Touch or backup phone with tons of games loaded on it...

Don't know why the omnia is being dismissed - it has the most powerful processor and I'm not sure the Ram is an issue because of the internal memory has speeded up to the same level. What I would question about HTC and the Sony is the build quality as both of them are in fact out of Htc's factory
I'm currently using an Xperia after 3 months of Touch Pro usage; the things important for me are covered in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3028394&postcount=25
..as for the Omnia: I haven't even tested it because it has no HW keyboard and it has a low res display -> altogether different type of phones in my opinion..
The time has come to relegate my trusty Hermes to the nearest bin. This means - upgrade time.
Now, unlike some of you, I do not have the luxury of trying out both of these to make up my mind. So, I'd like to hear some thoughts on those of you who has had to give up their Touch Pro keyboards for the more clumsy Touch HD on-screen text input.
Getting the Touch HD is a no brainer in every way, except one. I can't imagine giving up my sliding keyboard. Yes, I'm currently leaning towards getting the Touch Pro.
Thoughts? rants & raves? and shuttefu%^&up about iphones please.
As an owner of both I say get the HD. I loved my Raphael so dont get me wrong. I do a decent amount of typing and the HD keyboard seems very responsive. If you are doing a ton of typing there is really no substitute for a hard keyboard but the HD isnt far off. Out of the box the HD runs much better than the raphael did but there are plenty of custom ROMs out there that solve this for the raphael so not really an issue. One plus abotu the raphael is that there are tons of customizations but youc an expet that from the HD cookers out there in the coming weeks.
Again, i say get the HD. Its hard ot beat the screen on it and typing is actually pretty easy. I like the power button and volume buttons more on the HD as well. you dont accidently press them the way you will on the raphael. The other buttons on the HD are really nice as well because they do not actually press like the raphael does. It gives a little vibrate when you press them which is a suprisingly great feature. Oh yeah, don forget about the 5mp camera. It takes wonderful pics as long as you are in decent light.
Lastly, everyone that has seen my HD is blown away. When they saw my raphael they mostly said "thats nice, a little too think for me but nice"

WOW the most usefull review of all
thx again, and when my back account allow it , I might buy HD
I've still have my Touch Pro. I opted to buy the Touch HD for one big reason...Screen size bigger than the iPhone on a WM device! I'm tired of dealing with the limited space of a 2.8" screen. I've always been a fan of hardware keyboards, but the Touch HD has a nice virtual keyboard and with a program like gyrator 2 or gsen you can rotate your HD into landscape and stretch out the virtual keyboard for more room.
Also the GPS performance is better on the Touch HD.....the Touch Pro and Diamonds performance is crappy..its lags way too much and takes longer to get a fix. Now the AT&T Fuze may have this solved, but unless you have AT&T and live in the US its not really an option.
I think for any one who has been lusting over the idea of having an iPhone, but would never give up Windows Mobile can now rest at ease.
Just my two cents.
I have also used both, and I can say , on any given day , I would take HD.
HD screen is the best thing and the keyboard is also very good on it.Once , the custom roms comes from the likes of senior people like Dutty , Panosha and others, I am sure the HD will fly like a rocket.
Go for HD. I sold my rapheal already.

I've still have my Touch Pro. I opted to buy the Touch HD for one big reason...Screen size bigger than the iPhone on a WM device! I'm tired of dealing with the limited space of a 2.8" screen. Now that you have the HD could you compare the GPS performance with Touch Pro?
Give us numbers.... How many seconds to get a fix and the GPS "lag".

Thank you, all of us will be awaiting for it.
Best regards.
In the last 3 months, I have owned a Diamond, Raphael and an HD. The Diamond came first and was lovely to use but the screen was too small to type effectively. So I bought a Raphael - which i used for work but it was just too thick - it ruins the cut of a suit!
Then along came the HD. The screen is just beautiful. Crucially, it is also large enough to type effectively. Don't get me wrong, it is not as effective as typing on a keyboard (such as on the Raphael) but unless you're doing a lot of typing, that doesn't matter. I still do a reasonable amount of email and the screen keyboard on the HD is large enough to cope.
The HD also runs more responsively than the Diamond or Raph. It doesn't suffer the Raph's GPS lag (I never had lag on the Diamond). And did I mention that screen???!!!
Disappointments with the HD? Not many yet. The camera is unquestionably way too slow and nowhere near as good as, eg, the N95 (which my wife has). The lack of D-Pad takes a bit of getting used to but all it really means is getting used to a different way of working as we're all so used to the DPad. I haven't yet found any software where it causes a major problem.
My final answer? Both my Raph and my Diamond are on ebay right now.
dito
yeah, my tilt and fuze have both sold on Ebay, I like my Touch HD. I am looking forward to using a different onscreen keyboard than the one provided in the stock ROM. I don't like that they wasted space by putting directional buttons on the right hand side. There is one available on a particular ROM downloaded from this site, but i suspect there will be more WVGA keyboards. I used to have a 6600 which had like a 3" screen or something, a wee bit larger than the tilt and that was a really nice phone actually, it just lacked the new juicier hardware. The Touch HD really brings out the sexy in HTC. No overweight short, fat, ugly phone, its tall and sleek and slim and sexy, lol! Just another thought: The Touch Pro can be had for about $500 without a contract and even FREE with a contract if you pull the right strings! However, the Touch HD is nearly $800 and there is no ifs ands or buts about it. You gotta pay for the best and its not really supported by AT&T or the retailers that sell it here in the US and is only barely supported by HTC in US. And, the insurance companies dont know much about it. All this makes for a riskier investment especially considering that some peoples HD vibrate breaks and they have to send it back . (moment of silence please). Yeah its a little scary for me right now. I think I might have it under control! If I were you and I had wee bit of money, I would go for the HD, its what the really cool people have, lol
Just a few thoughts,
Levi
I had a very cherished Tytn II (kaiser) before the recent HD.
I was really excited about the huge screen and higher resolution but the lack of a hard keyboard really put me off. Another huge aspect that put me off was the fract that straight out of the box you cant rotate to landscape mode. I've had my tytn ii in landscape mode permenantly for ever a year now and thats how I like it. The optical layout is very similar to wide screen TVs and monitors. Any how, I found a way to keep it in landscapde mode (look for my thread called landscape view +solved+.
I tried typing in full qwerty and compact qwerty mode in portrait screen but it just wasnt the same (or even close) to a large keyboard. So I resorted to trying to type in landscapde mode using full qwerty and it was just as good as the tytn ii keyboard. Snailslug's wonderful app called touch response made it even better. His app added little vibration feedback (haptic I believe is the term) to touching the screen. So using the virtual keyboard is much more predictable if you can imagine.

I have tested both and I can say, being a Universal Super keyboard user, that HD is almost perfect but the lack of physical keyboard stop me to buy it, a Physical Kb will never be beaten for any fantastic on screen virtual Kb.
So if I had to decide for any of those being the only options I would choose Touch Pro because the Kb, even with that fantastic super screen of the HD.
Or dreaming a little bit I would wait for the upcoming HD touch Pro....
Iphone? Never in my life!!
I've had both on hand: Touch PRO and HD. And now i am really satisfied with HD compared to what I've been with Raphael. I've been considered so much before change from Raph to HD. I'd been with Raph for a month and swapped with many ROMs and radios (only Raphael radio) before making a decision to switch to HD... Beyond all of Raphael's pros is its crappy BATTERY LIFE
It only lasts for a day with full charge on my usage (compared to the same usage with HD). The GPS is so bad, could not fix as fast as my Polaris.
I have to say I'm really disappointed with Raph as I thought it could be another king replaced for the Kaiser...
Go to HD then you will have no regret and waste !
as a TyTN owner.. i thought of getting a raphael.. but looking at them.. they dont have many differences.. ok the vga screen.. the looks etc.. overall though its the exact same device pumped up..
besides.. im a more of a techie gadget guy.. the raphael doesnt come close to the HD from my point of view.. the raphael is a more bussiness man type of device rather the HD is the more
show off device.. get the HD you wont regret it!
cheers!
I too have upgraded from a Kaiser to the Touch HD.
Bit of a no-brainer for me as I found I hardly ever used the slide-out keyboard on the Kaiser. The basic WM keyboard has always been a fast method of entering text for me, particularly with the help of predicitve text and gesture recognition.
Spb Keyboard is meeting my needs for basic text entry on the HD. If I need to do a serious amount of text entry the stylus comes out and I use the standard WM keyboard again. With practise I think this is a pretty fast and accurate way of entering text.
Just in case it hasn't sunk in (!), the screen on the HD is FANTASTIC! Web browsing is excellent. The extra screen space and resolution is also fantastic in Pocket Informant agenda view. And mobile shell is great on the bigger screen.
As someone's said above, lack of D-pad is an issue to start with but only because you have to re-learn how to use your favourite programmes. After a while it's fine.
Setting up haptic feedback is a good thing.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what WinMo developers will do next year to tweak their software for the HD. It's good at the moment but could be more finger-friendly in places. Eg I know the next version of Pocket Informant will be more finger-friendly. Hopefully other developers will head in this direction too.

According to the service manual (http://mikechannon.net/PDF%20Manuals/HTC_Blackstone_Service_Manual.pdf) the US ATT 850 and 1900 HSDPA/UMTS bands are supported.
The original specs showed no support for these bands -- but now????
Are you getting 3G speeds in the US???
Ok guys just trying to get opinions out there. Currently using the Touch HD. Came from a Nokia device so I love the speed of symbian compared to Windows. It seems like the time has come for me to figure out if I want to keep the Touch HD or not.
Pro:
I love the big screen.
It looks sleek.
Easy to flashfirmware and tweaking performance is fun.
Con:
Incoming calls is a little laggy. Sometimes calls come in as unknown.
Phone feels a slower than ones I've used before.
No TV-Out.
*Having a keyboard would be a plus. But without it is not a Con*
I'm actually debating getting rid of the Touch HD for either the Xperia X1i/X1a so I would gain a keyboard and overall use would stay the same.
Or I thought about getting the Nokia 5800 tube, so that I gain the TV-Out feature to display gps on my indash and have the feel of symbian again.
Or ultimate would be to get the new n97 which has a large screen and keyboard.
What do you guys think? I think the biggest thing bothering me is the phone feelings a bit laggy compared to my previous nokia phones.
try keyboard in landscape mode man it works very well.
incomoingcall work well to me too.
after using it i dont wanna come back with symbyan anymore
Sorry but you knew it had no keyboard when you got it so if it is a "con" and not a "pro", why did you get it in the first place?
well then I guess I should list it as a neutral thing. I would like a full keyboard, but I'm satisfied with the compact querty at the moment. So good call tboy.
I dunno, going to the X1 isn't going to do much for you other than the physical keyboard. It sounds like love Symbian so maybe just wait for the N97.
I have both Nokia n95 an htc HD, HD is much better! 1 thing above all: HD is fully customizable, and you can improve it with new official roms or with a lot of cooked roms.......
Hello
I have the HD and the Nokia Tube.
The Nokia Tube is crap.
Slow as hell, and the worst GUI i have ever seen.
Flash a few cooked roms first... see if that makes your HD the device you always wanted...
do you recomend any?
I also own a n95 and the hd, and the nokia is no match for the hd in any aspect. Once you get used to the hd big screen and lots of features, you wonder how you could waste your money in the nokia set.
The hd is fairly fast for me, the gps works much better than the n95's. It fully customizable, the battery lasts longer, the rds radio of the hd is much better that the visual radio of the n95 (in Spain the rds system is spread all around the country while the visual radio is scarcely used), there's a lot of sotware available for the hd... in summary, i would't change it.
But each user asks for different features so...that's just my opinion.

You could try SPB Full Keyboard
Symbian UI sux the biggest time ever!!!!
There is no Symbian or Nokia I have ever tried that is nice or fast, the N96 is a piece of s..t! I stompted on the damn thing into pieces, seriously, kept freezing and the menu's are a nightmare, menu's within menus within more menus.... The "cons" you mentioned are nothing compared to any Symbian.
"TV Out" its a gimic function of Samsung and Nokia, the quality of TV Out function is way way below VHS quality making it a whole waste of time IMHO, anyway just my 2 cents in a useless topic.
Perhaps Symbian seems more suited to your needs
I went shopping for a new HTC device yesterday.
I looked at the Diamond, Touch Pro, Xperia X1, G1 and the Touch HD.
I found the Diamond's screen size to adequate, but the lack of storage card baffles me.
The Touch Pro was just to heavy but the keyboard was very useable + storage card.
The Xperia's keyboard felt better, but the weight killed it for me. The screen is also far too small to handle WVGA.
The G1's 16million colurs makes the same difference with the screen as an iPod. HTC really should move to 16M colours asap. The interface was great, but you can tell it is in its infancy. I will be watching Android keenly over the next year.
Then we have the HD :
The screen size makes a huge difference - 3.8" WVGA is the perfect size for this res (2.8" is borderline too small).
The device is the exact same size as the iPhone (I think the box matches Apple's packaging as well...) This fits nicely in the hand and feels very light.
The screen size also helps with finger inputs, even on the standard keyboard!
The device is fast. I found no lag running through the programs, even while leaving 10 open. The 512Mb RAM certainly helps there.
A hardware keyboard for me is a con. When I moved to one (XDA Mini S), I found it strange to get used, but percivered, when I moved back to an onscreen keyboard, I certainly did not miss the physical kb.
After playing with all 5 devices, I have payed up for the HD.
It'll be delivered on Tuesday.

davideuck, believe me!
Thanks for input guys,
I do like the ability to flash new roms as I am trying to keep up with Laurentius26 and the L26 roms. It seems the V7 seems to be pretty responsive. As far as the tube VS touch HD Speed comparison, thanks for the info.
On the TV-Out feature, I would only use it to display GPS on my indash so I can easily get around by getting a decent car mount I guess. I've been keeping up with that thead and haven't found one I liked yet.
Bringing up the point that symbian isn't as customizable friendly I guess it would advantage me to stay with the touch so that I can always flash different roms and see which I like better. And between the Xperia and the Touch HD, thats going to be a hard button keyboard VS big screen.
Now to go read up on some more interesting apps/games to install. Thanks again guys! Keep the input coming if you like! I appreciate it.
My first post here at xda, so forgive me while i get used to it ;-)
the touch hd is quite impressive as allrounder. i'm more than a little jealous of the screen compared to my own omnia.
but omnia is till my personal choise of today; huge internal memore (i currently use 16 gig + 16 gig sdhc) although it's 3.5mm jack is indirect, if does come as adapter in the sales box. it is a bit fatter than the hd though but not too much- 12.5mm. and it has the tv out u mentioned. anyway it is to my taste right now.
if u have the patience for future model i found some interresting ones here:
http://www.gsmarena.com/the_8_megapixel_samsung_i8910_records_hd_video_ready_to_roll-news-776.php
it seems the next generation of omnia. though rumor has it that it'll be running symbian instaid of wm... and by now i have gotten stuck on wm and its flexibillity. i'm not sure that i can go back. still if u look at its specks they doo make my mouth water- heh he.
http://www.gsmarena.com/toshiba_unleashes_the_tg01__the_ubersmartphone_to_rule_them_all-news-768.php
this one is a pure wm platform wich seems to leave even hd trailiang in the dust. but remember that with a screen as big as 4.1 inches u may need to resow your pockets in all shirts and pants. still size matters when using gui's and you hd is already a good example there.
none of them packs a built-in thumpboard though. for that u may need to to go n97, touch pro, xperia, HTC dream or G1. i've no experience with android yet. but as for wm's i hear experia is annoyingly slow, and if u already have trouble with the speed of the HD u may need to stay far away from this one. all of them packs better screenresolutions than omnia, but the benefits of higher resolution without bigger screen on these devices is argueable. on 3.2 inches i don't miss the extra pixels on windows mobile.
a good thing might be if others told about their experiences with various models. my dad for one would never trade in his HD for my omnia. but if i had to buy a new one today i'd still choose it over the others out there.
needs and tastes differ.
a little off toppic- sorry.
does anyone know if if it possible to mod s60-5th the same way as SPB and PointUI does it for wm? my only experience with it is n93 wich i kept as my primary for one and a half years. never thought of costumizing it though. and i've fallen in love with it on wm.
Cheeze,
I have the same problem.
X1 will have the same problem in terms of the lag.
keyboards are good, but you dont need them as much, you need to get use to the touch screen... give it more time...
If you want something just as good as the HD with no Lag, go iphone, but then you drop alot of good things with the HD.
i did at first contemplate selling off the HD and going in for the iphone, but i have used the iphone, and liked it for the whole 2 months i had it before i went to a smaller phone... and then to the HD...
the iphone was basic to what i needed it for, the hd works perfectly...
let me tell you, after 3 months, you will be fine with the hd, but the lag will increase... especially in calls... and if you are like me.. with an ever increaseing phone book addess list.. it doesnt help... due to work, my phone book is now at 500+, and that was after cutting it down due to the financial crises...
in all likelyhood i will go back to the iphone depending on what the next update is in July.. then in august will truely decide....
I to went from the HD to the iphone. I do miss the big screen and badass resolution but after a few weeks and jail breaking i dont even think about the hd or windows mobile for that matter.
Im currently looking to move from my Nokia E90 to The HD. I have never used a HD before so i cannot comment on it, but the Symbian email system is awful which is one of the reasons that im looking to move away from Symbian.
I have looked at the 5800 but it will be a "downgrade" from my E90. Also the N97 does look good but it only has 3 rows with the numbers intergrated into the top "qwerty" row.
That totally puts me off it
After having read one too many "I hate my Xperia and wish I had an iPhone" thread I thought I'd make a thread for people to remember why they bought an Xperia.
Does it have it's issues? Absolutely, but it makes up for it (for me at least) in many other ways.
I originally bought the Xperia X1a because it was the ONLY 3G capable WVGA device available for AT&T bands (850Mhz and 1900Mhz). It has a nice feeling keyboard, it has a beautiful display, and it has a very nice hand-feel. Even when I pick it up now it just feels so good in the hand. In fact I haven't had one that felt so good to hold since my old SE W810i. I had the Hermes and Kaiser and both were clunky and unenjoyable to hold.
The Xperia keyboard has a very pleasant keyboard. Its clicks are well defined and the arc slider's spring assist makes it a real joy to slide out. Also my battery life has been superb. Even running 24/7 Push E-mail and a separate IMAP account I still get over 48 hours of power.
Also it came with SPB Mobile Shell for FREE. SPB is, arguably the best Windows Mobile Shell available and it was a sheer joy to use, and while the default SE Panels were rather unimpressive I love that I can switch from Titanium/Sense, to SPB, to PointUI, as well as the absolutely gorgeous Growing Panel with just two presses.
While the processor is unimpressive it has been consistently able to run AVC Video at WVGA resolutions (some ROMs worked better than others, actually).
Sony also added a pretty good Xt9 SIP keyboard (I prefer TouchPal anyway) and with custom ROMS bringing Titanium and Sense to my Xperia I wonder why I would get anything else.
Pros:
1) Very High Res screen (More than double the lowly iPhone)
2) Latest UIs (I got SPB MS 3 from Korean site )
3) Great hand-feel
4) Great 3G performance (if you are on U.S. AT&T Xperia X1a is the best, for now)
5) Long Battery life
For those of you who might say I am glossing over some of the downsides, well sure, but this is a why I am HAPPY with my Xperia thread. (I have found most of the complaints to either be largely due to user error, or what I would call "making mountains out of molehills", but that's just my opinion).
Anyone else feel like their much maligned X1 has been getting unfair treatment feel free to offer some positive feedback for the device that, hopefully, we all still love.
P.S. - I got this idea from flamingsamurai
I am loving this phone right now.
*Opera mini feels as fast as my LEO and 3gs.
*The ability to use panels is a good point too.
*HTC Kaiser and TP2 were nice but chunky phones for me (bricks).
*The screen is just about as wide as the iphones and the device is much smaller.
*The hardware keys come in really handy. The optical sensor is good for menus.
*The keyboard is nice with good width for keys.
*Its a beautifully constructed metallic device.
* I am using vakleryire firestorm leo with htc sense activated in the home menu and it feels like a compact leo.
*No accelerometer but I use left softkey remapped to rotate screen.
* Android and Ubuntu are in deep progress as far as I can see (3 OS in one!).
Many more too.
Swap with 1ghz, increased ram/rom and the 0.2 inch for the screen and you have one of the best devices out there!
I like my X1 because it actually 'feels' like a communication device rather than an MP3 player with a call function. I honestly think the iphone looks and feels really dopey. I also have to agree that it feels great in the hands too. The way the keyboard springs open is just incredibly badass. The weight and the metal fascia just feel so classy. The panels are fun to change up every now and then, and I think it's just cool to have windows on such a tiny device. I thought my itouch felt like I had a little computer on me at all times, but the X1 is even more so. I feel a lot more organized on the X1 than I think I would with an iphone.
I had a hard time choosing between the X1 and iphone, but in the end, I couldn't justify paying the same price for a device (3G) with far less inferior hardware specs than the X1 just because of what it is. I generally hate apple products and didn't want to give in to their supremacy by getting and iphone. Sure apple's touchscreen is awesome, but I didn't feel I needed it for a phone; that's where my itouch comes in.
I found that apple's accelerometer annoying sometimes when I'm using it in weird angles, i.e. lying down in bed. I think I'm just glad to know that my X1 would be vastly superior in outer space than an iphone. You know, space-proof, just in case.
In the end I'm glad I made my decision to get the X1 and keep my itouch for my apple needs, rather than combining everything into one device. I'll use my itouch for video, music, and games; my X1 strictly for communication and productivity.
I actually love my X1 and think that it was the best phone I could get. After learning about the potential physical short comings, I'm going to do my best to baby this phone to make it live forever. If she dies, I'll revive her.
Sony eirccson is a pretty cool guy. eh is better than teh ifone and doesn't afraid of anything...
A message to the OP; when did you purchase your X1? Was it brand new. refurbished, or used?
Anyways, if the device was increased to the scale of having a 3.5 inch screen, I would definitely have kept my device.
Absolutely agree with everything said, especially about the X1 being space proof =D
Also people complain about WM, and I have no problem with it, its perfectly logical, and if you use a rom which you like, then it runs fine. Someday you'll be able to jump ship to android. Anyways I'll always love it, its fun to fiddle around with, rather than be a boring symbian phone, where you have no control.
And wheres the fun in having a phone everyone has?
Great thread Hannigan
I wouldn't call the phone cracking by itself user error. It's true, the phone does have good points, but it doesn't get the basics down.
If I have to keep the phone in a safe vault for it to not crack, what use is it?
I like the optical sensor and having the ability to choose between the optical sensor and physical clicks for directional input. However, I hate the feel of the keyboard.
Finally a thread where people actually enjoy the phone
What I like about the X1:
The Professional look and feel of the phone
Screen size and HD Res.
Modding capabilities and Hacks and the Different UI's you can put on it.
Camera front and Back and video recording
Optical mouse pad
Keyboard
Speed of phone, yes thats right I said Speed.
Wifi
GPS
HD games/PS1, sigh....... I miss Call of Duty 2 but I just couldn't go back to Sh!ty 6.1
And most of all The fact that their very little people that have heard of or seen this phone where i live. Actually I'm the only that owns one I don't know anybody with this phone in Auburn,NY .
@Rydock I'm glad to see your enjoying your X1 so far.
I'm still getting use to my X2 (just got it this week) but over all the more I get use to it the more I love it.
Single greatest reason why I love my X2 is .... Keyboard! =) (I hate typing on my ipod touch, nor do my fingers allow for a smooth scroll on the screen).
My only hope is the 2 up and coming firmwares fixes the little minor issues I have.

I bought mine new on eBay from an Australian retailer selling a Telstra NextG model (it comes unlocked). Only U.S. sources I could find had significantly higher prices for the X1a. I received it in February or so I think? About 1 year old.
Why do you ask about age and status? I presume you had one and are on U.S. AT&T. Were you curious since it is so rare in U.S.?
P.S. - I would prefer a bigger, flush screen. Then again it is still the largest screened phone I have ever had. And for me the physical keyboard is a huge benefit (Had Hermes and Kaiser before so I like them side sliders).
My X1 is still my favourite phone, the modding capabilities are what does it for me.
I like the fact it's my phone, I've customised it to how I want it to work, I can't do that to any other phone I've owned.
The screen is great, it runs smoothly, i can get push email from multiple accounts no problem, I sync my contacts and calendar, vide oplayback is generally good, ther are a few files that is has problems with, but that's pretty rare.
Sound quality is great, shame abut the speaker, but I generally have it on silent and use a bluetooth headset or headphones.
It looks great, the build is solid, it's been dropped countless times now, ther are a few dents, cracks and scratches, but I expect that after the battering it's had over the last months!
I love having a QWERTY, but I wish it was more friendly for single hand use.
I've found myself using titanium over any panels, and things like the wifi router abilities, even torrents, mean i can do anything I want on it.
The X2 with a 1GHz processor would probably be my ideal phone! Just wish that looked more like the X1.
I'm happy to see that there are at least a few of us who are more than satisfied with the Xperia
It's always good to hear some positivity for a change. Thanks for the input, to all of you.
It's been a year since I last used my Xperia regularly. I would like to use it more, because I really enjoy the QWERTY keyboard (it has four rows and a dedicated @ button, etc) and it's a very versatile device. There are some great ROMs out for it now as well: Sense 2.5, Windows Mobile 6.5.3, X2 and what not.
But what keeps me from going back to it is the Xperia's tiny screen, in combination with the high resolution. WVGA is mainly used on 4, 3.7 and 3.5 inch displays, and not on merely 3 inches. In fact, is there even another 3" WVGA device in the world? It looks great, sure, but everything is so petite that it hurts my eyes
I think such a small display also puts a lid on the overall user experience. If the Xperia had a 3.5" display, or even 3.2", I would have used it *a lot* more. Because as pointed out in this thread, it does have plenty of strengths.
Hi all,
in fact I just BOUGHT an X1 afresh!
I'm using an HTC Touch HD with customized ROM as my primary device, and still think that's the best setup for me. The only things that bugged me were the width and the absolute lack of any tactile experience.
So I shopped around ...
In fact I actually ordered a Motorola Milestone: I wanted to see if I liked Android, the reviews are enthusiastic, and it has a hardware keyboard.
Guess what: I sent it back the day it was delivered. (but that's another story)
And so I went back to Windows Mobile.
My new X1 (and in fact it is brand new) has everything that I was looking for. It sits well in your hand, and I mean as a phone it feels just right. I'm quite happy with the keyboard, and I love the rich feel of the slider. And finally: Hardware buttons hooray!
Other than that it's got pretty much everything my Touch HD has, minus the G-sensor (and I can live with that).
So I use the HD for business (because it's lightweight and discreet to carry in a jacket) and for navigation (big screen!) and the X1 for leisure. Btw, the media panel is just amazing in terms of audio output!
All in all I've fully returned to WM thanks to the X1, and I don't see myself migrating to Android, WebOS, iPhone or Symbian any time soon. Windows Phone 7 Series (or whatever it's called) is downright scary in its restrictions, so I'm glad that 6.x will still be around for power users like us.
Bliss.

I am currently using a T-Mobile TP2. I'm considering upgrading to the HD2.
Anyone out there who has had the TP2 and upgraded, can you provide me with your opinion?
I'd say do it. I had the Touch Pro originally, loved it. Got the Touch Pro2, brilliant. Upgraded to the HD2, AWESOME. It's definitely worth doing but you REALLY REALLY will miss the keyboard and the tilt. The speed is ridiculously better, screen quality is way better. The capacitive screen will take a bit of getting used to but once you have had it for a couple of weeks you'll feel right at home.
Although I cannot stress enough how much you'll miss the keyboard.

I'm not sure - the HD2 doesn't have a stylus, correct? I'm not sure I can live with that... LOL.
EDIT: Plus, I have to talk the wife into allowing me to spend the $$.

Actually, I use the keyboard only to select text. There seems to be no easy way to select text on the HD2 soft keyboard. Otherwise I actually generally use the soft keyboard.
Can you cut and paste from one document to another on the HD2, for example?
if you text a lot or use speaker phone tp2 rules, otherwise hd2 is better in every way. typing on hd2 jittery screen is a pain.
i've been using my HD2 for the past 3 weeks, coming from a kaiser (tytn2). and i can't stress enough how much i miss the hardware keyboard!
i have briefly used excel on the kaiser and i had to recently use excel on the HD2...with the kaiser's hardware keyboard that doesn't take up any screen space and hardware D-Pad, even the smaller QVGA kaiser screen was enough to give a pleasant user experience. but with the HD2, its...just...not...the...same!!! screen is big, but onscreen keyboard in portrait is not nearly as easy to use as a hardware keyboard. and the landscape keyboard is much easier to use but leaves little room for much else on the screen, especially in programs like excel.
still, the HD2 is an incredible device and i'd highly recommend it!

Have you tried the SPB Keyboard?
I went from a TP to the HD2, and I too really miss the hardware keyboard. As has been mentioned, the on screen keyboard takes up a lot of space and leaves almost exactly 2.8" free above it. On the plus side it is so much smoother and faster : ) Watching films or tv shows is a pleasure (indoors). The capacitive screen does take some getting used to, but several months into ownership i really like it.Unless the rumours about an HD2 with a keyboard are true, i'd say go for it....

What about cutting and pasting in, say, a Word document, for example? I can't select text on my TP2 without using the hardware keyboard (Hold "Shift" key and use arrows).
Can you easily select text on the HD2?

Ì say go for Touch HD. The screen is very responsive, I can easily copy and paste.
However I am experiencing some 3G network problems which might be hardware related, I've read more people with this problem. But there are a lot of users without these problems so probably a poor production batch or something, That is what warranty is for And I could also recommend a custom rom
Beside the solvable networkproblem, in my opinion Touch HD is a great phone.
TP2 to HD2 - Pros & Cons
First - full disclosure, I'm on AT&T so I went from the Tilt 2 to an Australian Telus HD2 - flashed it for the latest Official HTC ROM. I understand you are on T-Mobile, which uses slightly different devices, so your milage may vary
The TP2/Tilt 2 was a great machine for typing lots of involved messages and emails. However, the hardware was still struggling to keep up with things, and it would frequently freeze or crash if I was muti-tasking or typing an email when a call came in. And don't get me started on how wonky it was if there was an Notification that hadn't been delt with. In other words, it was deficient in the same way that all WinMo phones seem to have been- namely the hardware wasn't able to adequately support the processor cycle/memory hungry OS. And the much-lauded graphics were frequently laggy or even frozen too.
To be fair, there was much less of this than any of my previous WinMo devices (I go back to the days of the MPX-200 so that's a lot of them), but fundamentally, after the Carriers steal all the memory for their Crapware, it was still not quite there - often in a disappointing or even dysfunctional way. I use my phone a lot for my business, and it's not funny when you miss several calls in a row due to phone freezes, re-boots and or lags due to Notifications. On the other hand, the Keyboard was fabulous!
The HD2 is a completely different experience. The processor, available memory and memory bus are almost as fast as the OS can handle. Freezes, lags and delays are almost (not quite) non-existant. It will still occasionally slow down if several Notifications remain un-acknowleged, but now this is a rarety, not a daily issue. It multi-tasks almost seamlessly and yes, I find it easy to cut and paste. The graphics capabilities are excellent, you can brows at high speed and not see the annoying Opera checkerboard for hours!
In terms of reliability, going from the TP2 to the HD2 has been kind of like going from W95 to XP. Finally you can actually count on being able to do everything the manufacturer said you could do, with minimal freezing and crashing. After 7 odd years of WinMo it is finally an almost seamlessly pleasant experience.
I'm still missing the keyboard when I type, but overall if I had to choose I'd say the HD2 wins hands down. The annoyingly less efficient keyboard still takes far less time and energy to deal with than the other performance issues of the Tilt 2. Add to that it's a LOT easier to see things on the bigger screen, it runs programs MUCH Faster and MUCH more reliably, and there's no doublt which I prefer. I still have my Tilt 2, but I will probably be porting Android onto it just for fun.
In the meantime, I'm still increasing my typing accuracy and checking out alternative keyboards, so the HD2 is closing in on the Tilt 2's better typing experience.
If typing information is almost all you do, then I'd keep the TP2 assuming you aren't going nuts with the it freezing up or lagging.
If you make good use of your phone for other things - browsing, games, music etc, then I'd say - go for the HD2 - you will wonder where this gem has been!
MadSci
There are several cabs to improve the accuracy on tapping the onscreen keyboard.
No keyboard is not a deal-breaker.
I got used to it very fast and never been a crybaby over 'missing the keyboard'
Unless, using MadSci's term, you'd rather pamper yourself with Win95.
Thanks for all the replies
I think I will go for the HD2, but it turns out it will be some months before I qualify for the lower pricing on T-Mobile.
Thanks to all who gave their opinion. I'm sold on the HD2!
I love my HD2 the only drawback from going to the tp2 to the hd2 is they ease of typing, it took me a while as well but with the help of swype i can type just as fast if not faster. but the processor the response is amazing the camera is much better and i love the addition of a flash. i know you already made up your mind and you are better off going on Craigslist and buying one in case you dont have a data plan because you will not a discount from t-mobile with out adding an unlimited data plan. Good Luck!
Finally Got One
Well, I finally got my TP2. I must say that is is vastly superior to the Rhodium. I don't miss the hardware keyboard all that much.
The only drawbacks so far:
The small battery and large screen make for a somewhat shorter time between recharge.
The device is so large that I generally find myself using two hands to operate it; the TP2, because it was narrower, could be done with a single hand.
Not that I'm complaining...
