Can anybody help with the email problem - XPERIA X1 General

I keep having issues with receiving email (IMAP), i have a non branded x1 and from the start i had problems with this, now im running 5.01 from itje but on all roms i had this problem.
When i press send/receive i get these 2 following errors:
messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected and that your e-mail account settings are correct.
or
cannot connect to the incoming mail server. Be certain that your login information is correct, then try again to send and receive mail.
Some times i have to press send/receive 5 times before i receive any mail, and i always have a stable internet connection (3G/HSDPA) when i try.
The problem isn't related to Gmail what i first thought, because i have another IMAP account (my own domain) and the same happends to this account.
Anybody know how i can fix this?
Btw: i have searched everywhere but nobody knows what the problem is related to or how to fix this.

which rom have you using ?

As stated above, im currently using itje's Touch-IT v5.01 but i had this problem with the original rom and all other roms ive tried.

I know there is a bug with sending emails. But there is a fix for that. Search for smtpfix (or something). Receiving email through pop or imap should be working fine.

Yup i know, i found that fix for sending mail.. But i have problems with receiving it....

IMAP and Exchange are working fine for me. You can check the following:
1. Whether IMAP connection is allowed in your gmail account.
2. You should download emails using wifi or ActiveSync connections for the first time.
3. Or you can reduce email size and download period shorter such as the past 3 days.
4. I recommend using stock rom for stability. Cooked roms are fast but they have problems with stability.
5. I am sure there are no problem with Xperia stock rom, as I have been using both exchange and imap for 3 months now.

At first thanks for your answer, but i had the same problem with the stock rom, after that the same problem with EVERY rom i used..
1: IMAP is on, i use IMAP for more then 2 years now
2: Is that really necessary? I have never seen then, but will try to set the account up again and receive over wifi the first time
3: Ive allready reduced the size to 2 kb and only for the past 3 days
Im a really the only one with this problem? Pretty wierd since my internet is working great, only sending and receiving mail gives errors..

Does your imap server mandate you use tls or some sort of authentication? I remember I needed to import the server certificates in Windows Mobile. Can you look at the log file on the imap server?

No this is not needed, not for Gmail and not for my own domain.
Ive tried what htanlin said, i connected through wifi and now i have no problems at all, send/receive without any problems..
Now im going to switch back to 3G...... lets see what happends!

Nope, didn't work either..
When i switched back to 3G it worked once to send/receive, which got me 4 new headers..
When i tried to send/receive again to download the emails i got this message again:

So i cant send/receive email while im on mobile internet
This is so wierd, on my iphone i have no problem at all to receive email from any IMAP account while im on 3G......

HI falkenX, sorry, I might be barking up the wrong tree.
I had a similar problem, have you checked the imap and smtp server addresses? I know on itje's 5.04 ROM, the Gmail defaults to imap.gmail.com, but I've always used imap.googlemail.com (and smtp.googlemail.com). After I changed them to these I stopped getting those errors.

Tried that just now, still the same error:
Messages cannot be downloaded etc.

Sounds like a problem with the IMAP server of your email service(s). Try again in a few days?

In a few days? LOL i live of my emails m8!
And it cant be a problem with the imap server since it does work when im connected through wifi or another phone..
Its only not working on 3G, the main reason i use my phone, besides calling offcourse ..

You could consider using a different email client. I gave up on the windows mobile standard client. Using qmail now. It works like a charm and it's free!

Maybe i have to indeed, but do you still get a notification when you receive any mail?

select your account, then go to settings.
select "edit account setup"
click next, until you reach the screen w/ the outgoing mail server prompts.
click on "advanced server settings"
try unticking require SSL for both incoming and outgoing..
but more likely, for "network connection", instead of having it on "internet" (which I think is default), select your actual data connection that you use.

I have tried both with/without SSL on/off..
And i have tried both selected "The Internet" and "GPRS Internet"
All resulted in the same errors..

POP3 Problem : E-Mail cannot Sync

Can anyone or has anyone successfully set up and sync'd to a pop3 acct with their HD yet???
I use the same settings as on my desktop computer and get a message in outlook
"Outlook cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected and that your email settings are correct. Then, try to download messages again".
This cannot be, I am connected VIA wifi, I can browse the Internet ( using Opera ) and made sure the password was correct ( pullin' out the Stylus )

You do know pop3 messages are not left on the server after you downloaded them on your desktop, don't you? So unless you have checked the option to leave a copy on the server in your e-mail client you cannot download messages again.
For a more conenient use you should get an imap mail server. With imap the messages are server based, so whatever you do with the messages in your mail client (mark them as read, delete them) will happen to them on your mail server. This way you can have the same messages on every device you use to view them (desktop, phone, laptop).

Yes, I am very much educated in the process of retrieving an email. but even if My Inbox was empty, I would get an empty INBOX, not an error message.
This is just a guess but how are your network choices set for Outlook, ie Work ISP etc?
Are you on contract or PAYG? I've never been able to use my phone's IMAP or POP3 client, regardless of model, due to the way that PAYG WAP works...
unless 'syncing' with pop three is different from what I think, I have accessed my pop3 account without hassle on my xda2i. (not bought the HD just yet )
I've used it with IOL and GMAIL wthout too much hassle on PAYG vodafone UK gprs.

This is the total config, It is exactly the same as my outlook on windows XP machine, which can sync. I am however unable to on my phone.

I unchecked the proxy option in Setting / Connections / Proxy Settings and it seems to work now

In network connections you have T-mobile as the internet access network?
He stated that he is using WiFi, the internet connection setting should not be relevant. The proxy setting mentioned by tombradshaw above may be problem.

The solution is already posted as well on other threads.
Turn off the proxy server option and it'll work.

The asnwer is very simple
your setting:
Email : [email protected]
should be:
Email : example (without the rest the account knows this from the POP and SMTP )
This should make your email to work!
Has anyone come up with a solution for this yet? I am trying to connect to a pop3 e-mail account belonging to a privately owned domain and have everything set up in the same way to the original poster, except I am connecting via my provider's (Orange UK) data tariff.
My Internet connection does not have a proxy specified, I can connect to a hotmail account without issue, and I know all of the details are correct as I have just set them up fresh on a different computer.
Any suggestions not already mentioned will be appreciated as I have read through the entire thread and none of the suggestions so far have led to me being able to connect.
The message I receive is:

While my first pop email account works fine, the second (pop.gmx.de) doesn´t synchronize any more. For the first two weeks everything worked fine, but a couple of days ago, the second mail accoutn stopped working.
Of course I checked the logon data sevral times, re-entered the complete data as a new account, soft-reseted my Touch HD, etc.
I also checked the same POP mail account at the same time from my notebook without any problems - so it cannot be a server problem.
Strange: When I you the web interface from GMX it tells me that there have been several unsuccessful logon attemtps to my account.
So it seems as if the Touch HD scrumbles the POP password, that I re-entered unnumbered times.
Any ideas or solutions to this?

My GMX worked perfectly for months, but since 2 weeks its exactly the same like you describe it. Yahoo still working without any problems. Seems GMX changed something on their servers

Yep. For me too. Since a few days my gmx won't work...
As for the GMX account not working, i tried it again today without changing anything in settings. Just hit send/receive - worked like a charm!

Smtp Email problems

I have an HTC Ozone. Purchased about 2 months ago. I have been unable to send email through a company mail server since I have got the phone. I can log on and download my messages with no problem. When attempting to send mail I connect to the server but my phone sends no authentication information and I get a message bounced back saying no relay access allowed. I have tried the microsoft fix but my phone would not install it. I am currently using the most current 3VO 6.5 rom, I have also tried the official rom. With all three roms I have been unable to send mail. I have also tried multiple email clients.
I have tried to send mail through our server over wifi with outlook mobile and profimail. Same resault error 504 relay acces denied. I know for a fact our server supports relay access with authentication, I have no problems sending mail with my laptop using my verizion air card.
As i noted earlier I have had this problem from day 1 with stock 6.1 rom, with the official 6.5 rom and with the 3VO rom.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Ok more testing. Tried same account information with my wife's phone same resault. I was thinking verizon was blocking port 25, cause I have tried other outgoing servers. Our IT guy says logs show phone connecting but not sending the login information. This baffles me. As anyone with an ozone had these problems. I have searched all over everything I find says use an alternate smtp server but this doesn't work either. This phone is really making me angry.
Of course, you are using your phone operator SMTP ?
Do you have the same probleme with GMAIL and IMAP protocol ?

What do you mean? I'm sure I have a T-Mob mail account, but I don't use it. I use my Internet provider's SMTP email. I cannot get my folders on my phone, "deletes" don't get sent from my phone, and every once in a while I cannot send email.
Not all pop server work well with pocket outlook. For instance, I cannot get my gmail mails synced correctly using the pop protocole, I need to activate IMAP (that may solve your sent mail issue).
As far as other accounts go, in order to be able to send mails, I need to use my mobile operator SMTP (and username / login), i.e smtp.orange.fr. (still keeping my e-mail provider's pop account, though).
Is you problem permanent (you never manage to send any e-mail) or odd (sometimes it will, sometimes it won't) ?

The sending problem is intermittent, but the folders issue and the deletes issue are permanent. Plus, if I read and/or delete an email from my phone and do not read it on my email server it gets re-sent to my phone as unread mail.
Btw, the incoming server is a POP server, the outgoing server is SMTP.
All right. Although I do not have a precise idea of what your problem is, I would suggest the following:
- Call you provider (T-mobile if I understood well) and ask them what is their smtp server address, and what is your login / password, and try to use this config to send mail.
- Try to switch one of you webmail from pop to imap and to sync your mails using the imap protocol.
Another solution would be transfering all you mails to a live mail account, as these of course are well integrated in WinMo.

New HD2, troubles with pop3/smtp email setup. [RESOLVED]

Resolved. Seems like the email server want to be imap when accessed by HD2. I have it setup and working as pop3 on ALL my other email clients and it works. It finally worked after I tried it as imap on the HD2.

The status says 'Error Sychronizing'.
I've also tried changing the 'Network connection' in the Advanced Server Setting of the Email Setup.
The pop3/smtp server is just an ip address, but I don't think that should matter. It works in all other programs and Android.
Any ideas? This is really frustrating since this should be a basic function of a smartphone.

you have to set your mails in windows otherwise it won't work !!! go to start, email and set your setting in wm mode (remember wm 6.1? same interface!) hehe
don't forget to check all the dropdown menus
as i had experienced, setting emails is very easy in palm and android(nexus one)
here its a bit complicated

I actually did set it up through the 'not pretty' email app. I did get my personal email account which is imap/smtp to work. However, I rather have my work email account working..
I'll check my personal email account through pop3/smtp servers in a bit.
what server does your employer use? hotmail?
We host our own email server.
I thought it was the fact that mobile outlook didn't like the pop3/smtp server as an IP, so I mapped wm hosts with a name for that IP. Opera will pick up on the hosts change and go to the right place. Unfortunately, mobile outlook still gives me the same error.
I was able to log into imap and pop3 server for my personal email, which is on another server.

Issues sending email....all settings correct but getting error

I have configured my HD2 to connect to my mailserver via IMAP. I can receive just fine but I cannot send. I get this error:
The message(s) could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. Then try sending again.
My settings are correct. I use the exact settings to connect my Mac Mail to my server, and I use the exact same settings to connect my android phone to my server. But this HD2 with WM6.5 is giving me problems sending emails out.
For outgoing, my server listens to both ports 25 and 587, so in my pocket outlook, to use the specific ports I included it in the outgoing URL mail.domain.com:587.
I have tried all sorts of combinations, none seem to work.
Please advice.

I've seen a few posts on T-Mobile's HD2 forum where some people had to change the connection used by the SMTP server in Advanced Settings. Don't recall if it should have been "T-Mobile Data" or "T-Mobile Internet".
Thanks! Uhmm... any link you can point me to? I'm really lost here and I've googled for days without any feasible solution. I've found a microsoft patch for the same exact issue but it was for WM 6.1 not 6.5....

I'm actually having the same issue with my gmail account. I set it up and it doesn't take my password. I've verified its the correct password by going to gmail but its still not taking it.
I don't think its a carrier issue as its doing the same thing with wifi.
I'm having the same issue, I can recieve, but cannot send. I ask TMO CSR, but they couldn't help me.
I think the problem is the pocket outlook program itself. I installed flexmail and it works fine, although I do not like flexmail's interface.
Any suggestion?

Can't send EMAILS, but can receive them?

I am trying to figure out why my HTC HD2 will not send emails from my handset. Although the emails are coming thru to my HTC HD2.
Kinda getting me annoyed, as I have DOUBLED check the settings with the same settings on my MS outlook 2007 via the PC, they should match up - i'm guessing?
Any idea's what could be wrong?

i had the same problem. You should not configure your email account in the manila tab. Delete your account, go to start (windows button) and E-Mail. when you configure here your email account, it should work (worked for me).
Somewhere I read that you should do all future changes in settings of accounts also this way and never use the manila tap for configurations of email settings...

Have tried that... still no joy.
The email just sits in the OUTBOX, and doesn't get sent.
When mailing over WiFi or through PC use your 'home' internet providers' smtp server. When mailing over your mobile network, use your phone company's smtp server. That's the way it goes with internet.
Or use an smtp server that handles both, but they are rare (unless you have your own domain name).
my yahoo does not send email but my google email can. try using a google email.
Some providers require the "Outgoing server requires authentication" tickbox selected.

actually most of the network providers (certainly in the uk) give you an email account with your phone number, or at least allow you to register for one through them, and generally they allow smtp sending from any network.

I have no problem with sending or receiving e-mail via yahoo mail.
Incoming mail server is pop.mail.yahoo.com whilst outgoing is smtp.mail.yahoo.com. Account type is POP3. Option is selected for "Outgoing server requires authentication".
It worked for my Tilt
I have been experiencing these same problems for the last couple of weeks and gave up thinking MS has done the dirty on us again. But after trying to send an important email to a bank and seeing it fail repeatedly, I decided to do something. All the other posts on problems sending email suggest downloading the MS patch which I did, changing port numbers, which I did not do, did not work. What did work is that I checked the box for outgoing mail authentication!
Phew I can keep my Tilt WM6.1 standard build for a while longer now........
