I tried downgrading my hero (tmobile uk branded) using the goldcard tool and the 2.73.405.5 WWE RUU
The update seemed to be installing fine, but then threw up a usb error right in the middle of updating settings, the ruu told me to take the battery out, put back in.
The screen now just displays the bootloader screen with a chip with a red X through it at the bottom instead of the skateboarding androids
When I tried doing the RUU again, it just hangs on "sending..." - no green loading bar on the handset while it says this
Have I completely screwed the phone or is there something I can do to get it back?

Don't worry, you can get back.
Can you boot into HBOOT? (volume down +power)
Have you tried another computer?
It boots into hboot on its own, without holding volume down, then just hangs there
Tried it on a vista 32bit computer, no luck (mine is win7 64bit)
I've managed to get the handset to respond to the ruu's now, the green loading graphic has appeared again.
The 2.73.405.5 just hangs at around the 90% mark during "sending..."
Tried the official t-mobile 2.73.110.26 ruu as well, crashs with "unknown error - please use the correct ruu" at around 30% during "sending..."
Any ideas on what to try next?
Sounds quite similar to what I did to mine.
I forget the exact commands now, but even with the "perfected" hboot (which version is yours by the way?), you can still flash the rom.zip file.
Look up the exact commands, but it is something like "fastboot flash zip rom.zip" (for some reason you can't flash the defined partitions with hboot .0007, but you can make a "zip" partition to upload to, from where it then installs to the correct partitions).
You can try that, but if it hangs at "sending" I don't know if that will do much.
Also, I find the Windows distributions based on Vista don't work too well, try XP.

I'm bit of a noob when it comes to flashing roms, commands for what exactly? or can you point me to a tutorial for what I need to do?
Both the RUU's I've tried still hang at around the 90% mark during "sending..." then it seems to time out and throws up "unknown error" I don't have access to an XP machine but I can try a 32bit win7 instead of 64bit if that would make any difference
the phone says hboot-1.76.0007 (HERO10000) - I take it this is the hboot version?
Do it XP...
Just sayin
That's the os everyone is saying is the best for flashing.

Just tried it in XP Pro, no luck.
The 2.73.405.5 ruu gets further with xp then in win7, gets past the sending stage, gets to updating... then throws up "signature error"
The t-mobile 2.73.100.26 ruu still hangs on sending at around 90%
Is there maybe a different ruu to try?
Ok, I finally got it to work, just kept trying the ruu over and over again, finally worked on the 12th or so try, I don't think I could be anymore relieved lol
Thanks for all the help guys!

Hi I'm new on here and a complete novice to flashing roms. I have a HTC Leo which I'm trying to switch to android but can't get Magdlr 112 onto my phone, I get through the first couple of pages it says it's uploading,I get the tri colour screen then grey htc screen but sticks at 0% then after a couple of minutes says error 260 and that it can't connect to the device. Any help would be great I'm wary of trying anything else because of the warnings of people on here about bricking it.

Do you already have HSPL flashed to your phone? It sounds like the bootloader is stock and is preventing you from flashing custom code to your phone. Are you running a custom or stock ROM at the moment?
Stock win 6.5. It's as it came from the provider which is Virgin.

That's why. You need to have HSPL first. Please read this thread very carefully and follow the instructions to the "T".
Nearly there
Right I've put an old 1.48 version on my phone managed to get HSPL2 on to it, but am struggling with Magldr 1.13 can get it to load on but then the phone won't boot it sticks on the white screen with HTC but goes no further (no quietly brilliant) I can get the tri colour boot loader but it won't load Magldr I've tried a couple of versions but to no avail any help would be appreciated so close to getting Android on it, I'm about to start again from scratch. Cheers
What radio version do you have? You need 2.08.hspl AND the correct radio - 2.08.50.xx or higher x.xx.50 radio.
Radio version 2.05.51_2
boot loader shows SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
0x05
0x50
Well there's your problem then
Heh guys you was faster.

Read below for more information
Error Description: USB init failed

I can flash an official rom back onto the phone but not a custom rom?
Solution found active sync needed to have it's usb connection disabled.
Thanks for all your help I'm rocking Froyo and soon Gingerbread.
Yes radio will solve the problem of getting stuck on white HTC screen after installing magldr.
Boot to bootloader mode, connect to pc, when usb shows run the CustomRUU in the radi ofile you downloaded. Ensure it is a 50 not 51 series radio. You can try 2.15.50 (see link in my signature). If the download doesn't have a CustomRUU.exe file included then you can use one from any winmo custom rom.
Got the radio version cheers all good, best Gingerbread rom? Or should I stick with froyo? Version I have of gingerbread won't load can't find the usbError Description: USB init failed

As to the best rom that is a matter of personal preference. I don't like GB as I prefer Sense, but tastes vary.
Hello and good morning
I have a issue with my HD2
i get to the boot screen right now it says this
PB81100 HX-B3
SPL-3.03 HPSL XE
0x05
Cotulla HPSL 0x50
i have even try to go back to SPL 2.08 also.
i do a boot screen to try to restore stock rom but it won't work.
i have installed MAGLDR111 on it and 113
When it turns on it goes in a Dexter loading please wait and sits there forever. i even left it there for half an hour once and nothing
When i go to SPL2.08 to boot stock rom it goes into effect it starts the process but it gets stuck at 3%
7% and the maximum i can get is 8%
Try it on two computers and is the same.
Even some custom roms.
LDR
If i hold the power button for the MAGLDR it goes into a black screen with the letter on top but no menu to scroll down to anything.
Can someone tell me if this a hardware issue and i should give up?
i got this phone like this from Ebay with booting up to the boot screen only.
i thought i was going to be able to flash it myself cause i done it before on other hd2
but this one is really giving me a hard time
I just try it again and I get 302 error
I hope someone can help me out. ifnot i will have to give up on it.
Hm you need to try to flash an original Windows 6.5 rom to restore your SPL and RADIO. Also check what kind of SD card do you have. Sometimes it fails with some.
i don't have a SD card in it im trying to flash it from boot mode usb
And i have try installing the original rom from tmobile.
but it keeps getting only to 8% and it gets stuck.
im at the point that now i think there is something wrong with the hardware.

And change hspl from bootloader can?
Try to touch versions hspl and to stitch original ROM.
p.s. It would be certainly easier, if was available sd, but alas... Absence sd complicates a problem.
I just got HD2 Tmous from ebay for parts to fix another that I sliced and cut the LCD flex cable. The phone is in great condition and after I put in the battery from my old phone it booted up and stuck on stick together screen. I booted up to the bootloader tri-color screen and it displayed the following:
PB8112 HX-B3
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x05
After I used the USB cable to connect to my PC running Windows 7, the Serial at the bottom changed to USB. I downloaded Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 and installed and run it. The WMDC said USB not connected. I found the thread "Stuck on Stick Together Screen" with similar problem and was solved by re-stocking the ROM from Tmous. I downloaded it but renaming from exe to zip did not work in order to extract the LEOIMG.nbh. I found another thread "[TUT] Flash your ROM / Radio via microSD" and downloaded it. I copied the ROM to my FAT32 1GB SD card, inserted it in the phoned, booted it into the bootloader, and flashed it. It is now stuck at 10% for more than an hour.
LEOIMG.nbh
RADIO_V2 -
RCUST -
BOOTLOADER -
SPLASH1 -
OS
CONFIGDATA. -
Update in Progress...
(progress bar stuck at about 10%)
I forgot to verify that the ROM is for HD2 Tmous and don't know what it is - the thread did not mention it.
What should I do now?
Thanks in advance.
The part, where you stuck at 10% is the part, where it flashes the Radio Image. I stuck at it, when i choose the wrong ROM. Do you know, which ROM was the original one for your phone? Look it up on the internet and try it with it.
I saw, you wanted to extract the .NBH file. Try it with the Software "WinRAR". When you installed it, go to your RUU-Extractor file, right-click it and choose the point "Open in Winrar..." or sth like that.
I hope, that was a little help
Thanks,
I got it from ebay so i don't know its history. After more than 3 hours stuck at 10% and found out from other thread the ROM from Tmous was not a normal zip file that can be viewed directly from Windows Explorer, I used WinRar to extract the NBH file and pulled the battery out and put back in. The phone was rebooted and got the triangle failure symbol; I pulled the battery out and put back in and booted into the bootloader - it displayed these additional info: RUUNBH at top right and Upgrade ROM code error Please try again at the center. Also, the serial did not change to USB anymore.
(omitted some steps) I flashed the leoimg.nbh file downloaded from Tmous and the same problem happened.
Since ActiveSync does not connect to the phone and the bootloader does not function properly, any utility required ActiveSync and flashing with properly function bootloader will not work. I think there is no way for me to flash the Radio ROM, right? Is there any utility or mode that will tell me which version of Radio currently in the phone?
I am thinking of trying to flash the same HSPL and MAGLDR and see what happens after reading some more threads.
(omitted some steps) I flashed the leoimg.nbh

so it doesnt say 'fail' next to anything on the blue writing/grey background screen when you flash from sd card? like next to RADIO_V2 -? because it sounds like a pretty standard stuck radio (or stuck spl, tell me, did teh spl line change from your first post? (("(omitted some steps)" dont ommit anything, full detail is the only way to get accurate answers.))
Mostly this never gets fixed without a jtag, but sometimes trying all teh various roms for that particular phone (you sure its a tmous? if it is, DO NOT flash anything you didn't get from the tmous/htc website,,, if it doesnt work and you get frustrated after 100 attempts, and its late at night, dont think "oh ill just try a non tmous one, just to see" cos it will die.)
Things to read up on and try are the freezer trick, chill the phone for a while, then quickly try an sd flash (forget about usb flashing, if you are gonna fix it, its most likely sd that will do it),, trying various tmous stock roms (if you go in the tmous stock roms thread, DO NOT flash the first one in the list, , its not a real tmous rom and will brick you,, teh second and third would also be best avoided, with the manufacturing spl's, because going back to normal stock is tricky, , not impossible, but a pain none the less),, also have a play with hspl3 or 4, see if you can change the spl, because sometimes its the spl thats stuck, and not the radio (however sticking at 10% and not seeing anything next to RADIO_V2 - makes it almost certainly the radio,)
Nothing - no additional info besides the progress bar stuck at 10% described in 1st post and the SPL line did not change. I think the phone now has the exact info except there is nothing where serial was displayed before (yellow text info on red background) as my first post.
Omitted some steps: these are just steps to copy the ROM downloaded from Tmous website to the sd card for flashing (T-Mobile_HD2_MR_software_3.14.531.1.exe).
Yes, it's a Tmous. The void sticker is still there and the touch screen has the T-Mobile logo.
I knew that I had to flash Tmous ROM because HD2 Tmous has 1GB of ROM instead of the normal 512MB.
Unfortunately, most of shipped ROM links are broken. I wanted to try the 2.10.x.
Thank you for your help.
Hi everyone,
I'm totally lost with the HD2 my brother didn't want any more. I think he installed an android os but it couldn't launch or function correctly so I tried to have it back to his original state.
I tried the hard reset but it didn't work, the phone didn't launch.
I used the Task29, it worked and cleaned the phone. Then I tried to install the official rom 3.14 found on the htc support's page. The loading get stuck at 1% and stop to move until I get the 262 error.
I read a bit and try to understand how all of this work but I still don't get it. I tried the older version of the official rom, it worked a bit better since now the loading bar get stuck at 6 or 8 % randomly.
So now when I power on the phone it says : "Software update failed! Please try again" which I tried all yesterday long.
When I hold volume down and power on what I get on the red green blue white screen is this :
RUUNBH
PB81100 SS-BC
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x50
Upgrade ROM code error
Please try again
I don't know what to do to resolve my situation. I'll be grateful for any help or hints you can give me.
Looks like you are trying via USB.
You could have a corrupt nand in a wrong area or some sort of hardware error.
Just to eliminate hardware, re-download the 3.14 ROM (in case you got a corrupt file)
and extract it, put the NBH file on the root of your SD card and make sure it's called leoimg.nbh disconnect from your PC and boot into bootloader and flash from SD
btw this is a tmobile phone right?

Hello Maywiki,
task29 doesn't delete HSPL, that causes your troubles. May I cite from HSPL4 by Dark Forces Team:
"5) Uninstallation
Only way to remove the HSPL is to flash an original SPL from SD card.
- Take any "RUU_signed.nbh" from a ship ROM and copy it to SD card.
- Rename it to "leoimg.nbh"
- Reset the device while pressing the volume down button."
Be sure your battery is charged.
For future flashing experiences I advice you to not only "read a bit" but digging deep into it - and then re-read again.
Have fun

task29 did not cause any of his issues, after he did taask29 he tried to do what you say and flash the stock ROM but it hangs on the flash.
At no time from the bootloader should a flash just stick like that. I personally think it's a hardware failure, bad nand or something, or even a bricked radio if it keeps hanging near 1%, but you never know, the ROM he's using might be corrupt.
I still suggest you download the ROM again, put the .nbh file on your sd card like stated above and try a flash from SD.
If that fails maybe you can try to flash a custom ROM that does not include a radio and if that flashes we know we cannot flash a radio because that is what is hanging the flash.
Thanks for all your replies.
Yes I try via usb.

Nope, it was bought in Belgium and it's not tied to an operator.
That's the name of the file I downloaded from the htc site : RUU_Leo_S_HTC_FRA_3.14.406.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship
The problem is that I can't access the sd card. The pc knows that an htc device is connected but I can't acces the device (it doesn't show up anywhere) and the sd card. The windows mobile app doesn't find a device connected too. Could it work if I pass via another phone to put the file on the sd card ?

thats bad, 8/9 is the time the radio is being flashed, and is a primary indicator of a stuck radio (which also covers stuck spl, , corrupt spl/radio/bootloader basically)
The first time, the 1% hang, is the point where a stock rom tries unsucessfully to flash the spl for the first time, either triggering teh corruption, or the first time a flash has been attempted and so teh first time bootloader notices it's corrupted, (hence the RUUNBH at teh top of bootloader, it has tried to start flashing, and encountered an error, and not dropped out of flashing mode, as you would expect for a normal failed flash)
From here on, chances are you will either
1-never get anything to flash
2-possibly get winmo custom roms (no radio, see) to flash but nothing else
3-things like task29 and hspl appear to flash, but nothing changes
try No 2 first, and then try the freezer trick, chill teh phone right down, and have an sd card ready with the leoimg.nbh ready on it ready to flash as soon as you take it out of teh freezer.
Just occasionally, people get past this type of error, probably meaning the issue was corrupt software, but usually there is no fix (except JTAG, and even that isn't always successful) possibly meaning hardware corruption of a critical area of nand.
Also, if it DOES work in the freezer, that probably means you have an overheating device.

Yeah exactly where I was going with this.
Use a USB SD card reader thing to put it on SD card, or even another phone if you have to.
Try a custom ROM maybe.
If you are running 2.15.00 you don't need to flash another radio anyways, and since you have HSPL you don't need another SPL either, so you're not quite as screwed as some others even if you've got a bad radio/no flash situation.
So I did what you said (except put the phone in the freezer).
The installation went ok. Once finished it said nothing so I guessed I had to restart the phone.
Now the phone gets stuck in a white screen with htc in green on it.
Did I make something wrong ?

No, either your flashed task29 then no rom or it's not loading the ROM,
try the SD flash again with the CORRECT rom and see what happens.

RADIO_V2 - OK
RCUST - OK
BOOTLOADER - OK

RUU_WALLPAPER1 - OK
RUU_WALLPAPER2_ OK

UPDATE SUCCESS

What do I have to do now ? Try another rom ?
Hmmm, radio_v2 OK, ,, that's unexpected, but doesn't necessarily change anything.. .

The trick works because your chip is overheating. This is a common HD2 problem. When you freeze the phone the chip cools enough to boot the OS, and it may run fine for a few minutes. Play a video or do anything that heats up the processor at all and it will reboot and get stuck on bootloader again. It is a hardware issue that can only be solved by one of the methods I mentioned above.
