Have I bricked my Hero? - Hero, G2 Touch General

I tried downgrading my hero (tmobile uk branded) using the goldcard tool and the 2.73.405.5 WWE RUU
The update seemed to be installing fine, but then threw up a usb error right in the middle of updating settings, the ruu told me to take the battery out, put back in.
The screen now just displays the bootloader screen with a chip with a red X through it at the bottom instead of the skateboarding androids
When I tried doing the RUU again, it just hangs on "sending..." - no green loading bar on the handset while it says this
Have I completely screwed the phone or is there something I can do to get it back?

Don't worry, you can get back.
Can you boot into HBOOT? (volume down +power)
Have you tried another computer?

It boots into hboot on its own, without holding volume down, then just hangs there
Tried it on a vista 32bit computer, no luck (mine is win7 64bit)

I've managed to get the handset to respond to the ruu's now, the green loading graphic has appeared again.
The 2.73.405.5 just hangs at around the 90% mark during "sending..."
Tried the official t-mobile 2.73.110.26 ruu as well, crashs with "unknown error - please use the correct ruu" at around 30% during "sending..."
Any ideas on what to try next?

Sounds quite similar to what I did to mine.
I forget the exact commands now, but even with the "perfected" hboot (which version is yours by the way?), you can still flash the rom.zip file.
Look up the exact commands, but it is something like "fastboot flash zip rom.zip" (for some reason you can't flash the defined partitions with hboot .0007, but you can make a "zip" partition to upload to, from where it then installs to the correct partitions).
You can try that, but if it hangs at "sending" I don't know if that will do much.
Also, I find the Windows distributions based on Vista don't work too well, try XP.

I'm bit of a noob when it comes to flashing roms, commands for what exactly? or can you point me to a tutorial for what I need to do?
Both the RUU's I've tried still hang at around the 90% mark during "sending..." then it seems to time out and throws up "unknown error" I don't have access to an XP machine but I can try a 32bit win7 instead of 64bit if that would make any difference
the phone says hboot-1.76.0007 (HERO10000) - I take it this is the hboot version?

Do it XP...
Just sayin
That's the os everyone is saying is the best for flashing.

Just tried it in XP Pro, no luck.
The 2.73.405.5 ruu gets further with xp then in win7, gets past the sending stage, gets to updating... then throws up "signature error"
The t-mobile 2.73.100.26 ruu still hangs on sending at around 90%
Is there maybe a different ruu to try?

Ok, I finally got it to work, just kept trying the ruu over and over again, finally worked on the 12th or so try, I don't think I could be anymore relieved lol
Thanks for all the help guys!

Please Help - Can't Flash Rom anymore - No Image File

Good Morning,
I have been flashing a few different roms to find one that suit my needs however I have come to a problem - When I run the RUU it finds the device starts to bootloader on the device then very very quickly the device brings up a grey screen which says something like no image file (happens so quickly hard to read) then goes back to the tri-colour boot loader.
The PC then keeps trying for another minute or two and then says its lost connection.
I have tried using the Manual Boot Loader on the phone and putting the image straight to the msd card and running boot loader by vol - + Power but still nothing works
The last image I tried was the LIA (Can't remember which version - its at home)
I am currently running HardSPL 1.56.OliNex
On the Bootloader it also says this if it helps:
BLAC100 32M
MicroP-Blackstone (LED) v6
Also tried a Hardreset and downloaded official rom from the HTC website :-(
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks.

Ensure that you put the .nbh and ruu file into one folder with no other files. Make sure you have named the file correctly, i.e. blacimg.nbh
Thanks for your advice. Got the Offical HTC Rom flashing back now.
Strange why the RUU didn't work though been working fine.
Just another quick note while this HTC Rom is flashing it says:
Radio_v2
Bootloader
Splash1
os
Does this mean I need to put Hardspl back on to do more roms as it mentions bootloader?

Max

If you SPL states SPL: 1.56.Olinex then you do not need to re-use HSPL unless you are flashing a rom based on pre 1.54
Ok it didn't change the SPL so thats still ok -
However I can no longer flash new images from my computer using the RUU?
When ever I try it connects enters bootloader but then says No Flash Image. I have checked on the computer I have the RUU tool and the blacimg.nbh but nada.
I have tried roms that were working before. If I copy the blacimg.nbh to the memory card and use vol down + Power it works fine.
anyone seen that before?

So you can still flash from sd card, but not using usb cable and pc method. I am assuming you still get 'usb' at bottom of bootloader before you try flashing. I was goingf to suggest maybe your .nbh file was corrupt but you stated you tried using ones which where previously successful so it can't be that. Are both the nbh and ruu files in their own folder with no other files? Try using ruu I've attached. Do you get any error codes?
I will give that RUU a go later once I have played with this rom for a bit.
Yes the RUU and the .nbh are in a folder on my local drive on their own - No antivirus installed
The same .nbh file works via the flash memory,
However the USB text doesn't appear on the boot loader anymore. When I run the RUU from the PC with USB attached with ActiveSync it auto loads the bootloader perfectly but from there no usb and it flashes to the grey screen abotu no flash image then back to the bootloader with nothing at the bottom.

ok, reason flash fails is more than likely due to 'usb' not appearing at bottom of bootloader.
Various reasons for this:
First check that 'allow usb connections' is enabled in activesync connection settings and then see if 'usb' appears
Secondly, update usb drivers
Ok thanks I will note that although I think I have found a rom I am very happy with. So far seems to do everything I want and very stable so will see how it goes.
Just encase anyone is intrested its: Xnor 6.5 V1.4
I have yet to go through everything but so far so good....
same problem
hi I have same problem as OP.. did this get resolved??
dunno if this will help you but basically to flash it via usb the pc detects the phone as something else (not active sync or mobile center or whatever its called now).
so you need to have the drivers installed for that.
if you cancelled the driver screen or something the first time, then it will still be on your system as a nonfunctioning device the easiest thing to do is uninstall it from device manager.
then install the drivers as mentioned above and plug the phone in again in bootloader mode and wait...
it will take longer than usual because its the first time the driver is being loaded. then i think 'usb' will appear...
i had a problem like that after i reformatted my pc but this was ages ago

G1 in weird limbo state

Hi all,
I've been trying to install an OS on a G1 for about 2 hours now. I have gone through about 20 posts and followed instructions to the T. I own a pc repair company and I post regularly to some windows and general computer repair forums, so I'm pretty technical. Since I'm 100% stuck, I'm hoping one of you can help.
I don't know anything about the history of the phone, but it currently boots to the rainbow bootloader screen:
DREA100 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
RADIO-2.22.19.261
Serial0
I can drop the NBH file from DREAIMG-RC29.zip off of google's android file list into the root of the SD card and get the radio back to 1.22 no problem. I have actually tried 4 different versions of RC29 and all seem to work the same.
I have downloaded about 5 different versions of Android 1.5 (as well as 2 versions of 1.1, and a few of 1.6), changed them to update.zip, and attempted to load the OS and every single one of them fails*(see below for error) in the step "Verifying update package..." EXCEPT signed-kila-ota-148830.de6a94ca.zip. This one actually goes through all of the installation steps without erroring, tells me to hit home+back to reboot, says its updating the radio, goes to a screen with an image of a box pushing an arrow into a phone.... but then it reboots to the rainbow bootloader screen again!
*Error from above: E:Failure at line2: assert file_contains("SYSTEM:build.prop".... MORE ... Installation aborted.
When I reboot the phone now, it immediately tries to reload dreaimg.nbh. If I delete dreaimg.nbh off the SD card, the rainbow screen flashes (very quickly) to a gray screen that says "Loading.... No Image File!"
I know the phone isn't technically "bricked" because I'm able to interact with it, it reboots when I hold green+red+menu, but it sure seems like I'm in an infinite loop at this point.
My only goal is to get an OS loaded on this phone. ANY OS at this point.
Any suggestions on steps I can take? Need any other information?
Thanks alot for taking the time to read my post. I appreciate your time.

I don't fully understand the issue.. You can get to the stock SPL, you can get to recovery to flash an update.zip, but you can't get it to boot the main system?
Yes, I guess that is the issue.
It seems to load the 1.5 OS I mentioned in my original post just fine, but the phone wont boot into anything but the SPL.
It acts as if there isn't a main system to boot to.
I'm also wondering if there is anything else that should be on the SD card other than update.zip and DREAIMG.spl?
Thanks for your help golden
thats weird, fist time ive seen a problem like this...
I've never seen this either.. usually when dreams get stuck in an spl loop a broken button is the culprit, but since you can get into recovery normally that seems unlikely. This is going to be really hard to diagnose and fix from a stock spl and recovery as well..
Did this phone ever work or did it come to you in this state?
Right? I have really done alot of work previous to posting here, and I only found one other person with the exact same issue. Unfortunately no one had an answer for him either. I never like to bug forums if I don't absolutly have to :/
According to the eBay post, the phone worked fine but broke when the previous owner tried to root it himself.
My dad purchased the phone assuming I would be able to fix it (laughs).
I would be willing to try just about anything at this point, if anyone has any crazy suggestions on how to get the phone to boot to an OS.
Is there any way to 100% wipe everything on the phone, like EVERYTHING, and start fresh? Or is that essentially what you're doing when you boot to recovery mode, tell it to reset to factory, and then reinstall the DREAIMG file?

Phone stuck at white screen with HTC

Hi there,
I really need help!
I wanted to flash my phone with a nbh file, but I could not enter my bootloader.
I had installed HSPL3.
Now someone told me to use Flashaholic ROM update utility.
I did this, and a black screen with a % indicator appeared, not too long, it restarted, and went into a white screen with htc in the middle.
Restarting with volume down button pushed doesnt bring me into bootloader.
What can I do now?
I really need help!
Unfortunately, if you can't get your HD2 to boot into the bootloader, there's not much to be done.
Are you sure you had HSPL installed? Because from what I have heard, HSPL is there to always allow you to use it for flashing stuff, regardless of the integrity of other software parts such as the radio or the ROM, so reaching the bootloader should not be a problem for anyone.
Can you connect it to your PC via USB? If you manage to get a connection, you might just have a chance to flash another radio/ROM.

I installed HSPL3, and it said it was succesfull so...
After that I installed a custom rom with an utility that came with it (Dutty's)
So far I know, I cannot get any connection, but I try to download a stock rom (an utility exe) from HTC.com.
But I think this won't work right? because you have to sync.
You could try and flash a stock ROM via the SD Card, see if that works. There are some instructions here on XDA in the ROM Development section, check it out there.
Basically, once you have downloaded an official ROM from htc.com, extract it as if it were an archive and get the ruu_signed.nbh. Rename it to LEOIMG.nbh. Then take your SD Card, format it to FAT32, place the LEOIMG.nbh on the card and put it in your phone. While holding down the volume down button, boot the phone and a white Loading... screen should appear and the flashing process should begin.
I`m afraid this won't work either, as the bootloader is supposed to show up in order for you to be able to flash anything, but it's better than doing nothing, so...

Hi, if I remember correctly, you already said in the Artemis-thread, that the VOL DOWN button is broken. If this is the case, I fear there is not much you can do...
Have the same problem too.
I've installed a few roms with no worries, tried one about an hour ago that performs a Task 29 and i'm also now stuck at the white HTC screen...
it says the task29 was succesfull and then got stuck on the white HTC screen and the rom failed to load as the laptop did not detect a usb connection...
I've downloaded a stock rom and put it on the SD card named LEOIMG.nbh and tried pressing the vol down button, the Red,green, blue, white screen appears i can see
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL 2.08.Hspl 8g XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x30
Then "serial" at the bottom or if i have the phone connected to the pc then "USB" appears.
If i hold both buttons and perform a Hard reset the phone asks to press Vol up button then says restored really quickly then freezes at the white HTC screen..
Any suggestions
Cheers
Actually got it sorted now, the rom had the Flashaholic utility built in which i haven't used before.
As we speak the rom is now installing phew (stop sweating now)...
Thought i had bricked it...

It's not broken, it just worked before I did the task29.
The phone is empty, and has no bootloader, and no ROM.

task29 DELETES the ROM. You NEED to install a ROM. A Radio-ROM should be installed automatically with task29. If this isn't the case, you need to install a Radio-ROM too. You can either install the HTC ROM or you can install a custom ROM like forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=612580
Suggestion: Enter bootloader -> connect USB -> install ROM with CustomRUU

Well im not able to.
I did a HSPL before then I putted a custom ROM Dutty's on the device.
After that I putten a Stock ROM on it again, and then I used Flashaholic, and after task29 it got stuck.
Well no bootloader means no HSPL which is good news for your warranty coverage..
Just go to HTC service and play dumb " uhm i was playing around websites with a flash game and uhm my phone uhm rebooted and is like stuck ever since in uhm HTC logo"
Now if the case for not being able to load the bootloader is a broken volumedown button, yeah ur pretty screwed, prepare to dive in ur wallet.
Were do you live? If you need help and there's one living nereby maybe we can help (p.e. a full battery) I live in the eastern part of the Netherlands (Overijssel) PM me if you can come.
On the Kaiser (my previous phone) I also had a problem I couldn't enter the bootloader anymore, but I can't remember why or what I did to recover it.
- If it was an allmost empty battery and recharged it?
- If I have used a special tool to connect?
I really can't remember.
If I read your story, I think you have loaded a corrupted NBH thru SDCard method, otherwise i think you cannot wipe your bootloader. Task29 only wipes the ROM area not the bootloader.
Have you tried to contact Bepe or Cotulla, cause i think they know everything about (H)SPL.
Otherwise you can start building a new house (you've got your first brick )
have you checked you battery connections, the middle one is notorious for getting bent out of shape at which point the battery will not charge and you can't flash you ROM.

[Q] HD2 Android install - radio flashing question

Hi there
Im struggling with my flashing ... oo er
Im following the guide to flash android to the hd2
I followed step one with hspl and got the We've hacked it message
Next stage is radio flash via Custom RUU
I run the RUU and the install hits 100% (only takes about 30seconds to flash not the ten minutes stated on the dialogue screen on the pc)
the problem is the phone reboots to the white screen with Green HTC logo and freezes at this point. It doesnt run a full reboot.
When I try to reflash the RUU fails.
Could this be a faulty radio image? If so can some one post a link to a mirror for the best radio for the HD2?
I will try the other suggestions of different usb ports etc.
BTW I am using the latest Win mobile Center and have the RUU running as administrater.
Many thanks

Hmmm, few questions........
What kind of HD2 do you have.. US, European??
What radio do you currently have?
What radio are you trying to flash?
Can you get to bootloader (3 coloured screen) by turning on while holding vol. down?

Hi there
Im struggling with my flashing ... oo er
Im following the guide to flash android to the hd2

Can you enter Bootloader Mode and verify that your HardSPL install completed successfully and that you now have SPL-2.08.HSPL on the second line.
If that is ok then try flashing the Radio using the SD Card method as stated in my flashing guide (renaming the nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh copy to the root of your storage card and reboot into bootloader mode).
Mark.
Im confused now - I did the update again after flashing a stock rom via the sd card method. The radio updated and the rom started the self set up sequence.
I removed the battery - re ran hspl loaded fine,
confirmed its installed rebooted fine to rom rom.
powered off back into boot loader ran custom ruu - the progress bar ran to 100%. Phone rebooted and again is stuck at the green htc logo on the white backgroud with no radio details in the bottom left hand corner?
I re downloaded the file for the radio so ts wasnt corrupted.
Ill try the leoimg.nbh method see if that works.
WELL Thanks to the replies and starting AGAIN from scratch and updating the radio the sd card way Ive gotten it all working.
thanks for all the info.
Sometimes a little patience and a fresh pair of eyes so to speak - works wonders

What radio? Cos the symptoms sound like what happens when you load a 51 radio with a 576 enabled rom.... ie it hangs at RGD info screen without any RGD info showing.

I think my phone is bricked? please help

Everytime I turn on my phone, it goes straight into bootloader mode. I don't know what to do. I've been trying to google for the past hour or so, and no luck. Can anybody help?
Could be that your vol down button is stuck, try pressing and releasing quickly a few times ...just a thought!
PS. Your phone is not bricked if you can get to boot loader!!!
i tried that, and it didnt work. any other ideas?
can anyone please help?
Maby you don't have an OS. So try to flash a stock rom.
Sorry for bad english.
i tried that, but it either loses connection or it will say something about, how the the version of the o.s doesnt work for my phone. also on the phone itself, when it tries to download the rom, where a htc image is normally there, it isnt.
i have no idea what to do
It would be helpful to understand what you were running on your phone before the problem occurred?
The Bootloader you are seeing - I assume it is the hacked Cotulla one?
If you connect your phone to a PC does the bootloader screen show "USB" rather than serial?
If you have Cotulla bootloader and USB connection to PC, I'd start again with a clean install....not sure what you were using...but Typhoon is nice and Stable

It has a "clean installation" guide that you can follow....

I was trying to reinstall a stock gingerbread o.s on the phone, but something happened, and it wouldn't allow me to. So i just wanted to reinstall stock tmobile rom, and install android after that.
Yes i have cotulla bootloader, and whenever the phone starts up, it says serial, but it ill change to usb when i plug it in.
i couldnt open the pdf file.

If you are getting errors while flashing the stock ROM, as in windows mobile, then 99% of the time you have bad NAND memory and the phone needs to be jtaged or the motherboard needs to be replaced. Ive experienced a lot of these similiar threads over on PPCGeeks with the HTC Touch Pro 2
whenever the image file tries to update through bootloader i get an error/update image fail due to the radio i think. it says its spl 2.08 hspl, i tried uninstalling hspl but that didnt work. what could be the problem? or am i pretty much out of luck?

Those mirrors do seem broken.
Well this thread gives step by step instructions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11097380
you have HSPL, so you need to task29, MAGLDR, CWM and then a ROM.....it'll be interesting to see if you get anywhere....
Suggest following it step by step and seeing what happens before we write off your phone!
im not able to install magldr or a new rom, it either loses connection, or says it isnt compatible

Well if you have Cotulla HSPL, and USB shown on that screen, and are connected to your PC and Task29 is not running then I'm afraid I'm out of knowledge....
Sorry.
so i found that i have a ruunbh error, what do i have to do in order to fix this?
with ruunbh I suggest you go back and flash a stock WM rom.
That has worked for some.
If that gets you back running (at winmo 6.5) then you need to start the Android process again....
......By starting with HSPL and moving on through task29, radio, magldr, clockworkmod and a android rom.
going back to winmo is described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=935145&highlight=stock+rom
Let's see if you can go back to winmo first!
it keeps giving me an update error, when i try to install a custom wm rom and official rom any other suggestions?
So of the steps below....where and what is the update error?
--------------------------
If you are using a 512MB ROM HD2, just download the official firmware from HTC's website. The recommendation is to use a 1.xx or 2.xx ROM, do not use a 3.xx ROM.
Download 7-zip, make sure it is 9.20 version and up.
Using 7-zip, open the official ROM update exe file. Do not execute it.
Inside you will see RUU_signed.nbh, extract just that file. Nothing else.
rename RUU_signed.nbh, to LEOIMG.nbh
Copy LEOIMG.nbh into your SD card root directory which is FAT16 or FAT32 formatted.
Unplug the battery from the HD2, count to 10, replace the battery.
Hold the VOLUME DOWN button, DO NOT LET GO.
Press the POWER BUTTON, then let go.
Follow the instructions on the screen when the device goes to RECOVERY mode.
im using tmobile u.s version
You really like being brief don't you.
