Hi guys,
first of all I would like to congratulate all of you for apps & info. The phone would be a disappointment for me if xda-developers didn't exist.
As I am a newbie in the winmo family I need some info. I want to install touch flo (I don't care which edition, as long as it is a cab) and I have some questions:
1. which cab should I try? Please don't propose any roms, I am not ready for that step yet . I want a stable and not battery-thirsty version, don't care if the best would be 2D or having to wait for touch flo 3D 2.
2. Can I install it on the memory card? If yes, do you know what are the pros/cons?
3. Will I be able to uninstall it and how?
4. Any other advice???
As I have noticed on the many touch flo related threads, there are a lot of people having the same questions. Please help us all!
Thanks in advance
My personal and honest opinion follows.
1 - Install nothing. Touch Flo sucks big time. (great job to the people who ported it to the x1, but the app itself sucks)
2 - See point 1.
3 - As far as i know it cannot be installed and you have to do a hard reset. My info is outdated though. Maybe with the newer version you can do it???? Again see point 1.
4 - See point 1.
Agreed
I ran it for a little while, but the performance was appauling, a cooked ROM with it should be faster because it's in the ROM and works differently.
Without TouchFlo my Windows folder takes 3 seconds to load, with it, the Windows folder takes well over 30 seconds.
I decided to just install some simple things like the task manager, the volume control and the mp3 trimmer. Kept everything else stock and just installed some nice HomeScreen plugins to make it do what i want.
Even if you get TouchFlo, they aren't all landscape compatible, only tyhe new TouchFlo 2(?) and as far as i know even with those some things like the cammera buttons (on screen, not physical) don't work.

1- try itje's manilaHD cab. you'll find in this forum
2- no
3- yes, same way as all programs (always DO a backup before you install something huge or intrusive like tflo3d, I suggest spb backup)
4- I simply love tflo3d and suggest you to try a rom with new manila cooked in. It's faster for interface and for all the rest as cooked roms comes with all brand new build and drivers. go trough the forum, read and flash... don't be scared, just follow the procedures

Yeah, the ROMS work fine but the cabs outthere are crab. They are far from being stable, fast or useable.
I prefer the SE panel because all the information is on one page there without the need of flipping around.
My suggestion: If you really want TF3D, then flash your phone with a custom ROM (Itje's for English language, YYYYY has mad a fine ROM in German). That is the only way to have a fast and stable TF3D and also the option of using the panels!
Lol

Well obviously I know this, otherwise why would I make a reference about how it takes significantly longer to load the windows folder?
But 100% more files? Surely then it takes 100% longer to load, not 1000%.
And I gave no incorrect info, I said "they aren't all landscape compatible, only tyhe new TouchFlo 2(?)" - The question mark means I wasn't entirely sure on the name, so it's Manila 2, all the same to me.
Also, "and as far as i know even with those some things like the cammera buttons (on screen, not physical) don't work." - This means I'm not entirely sure if this is the case and it should be looked into.
and Finally "manila2 roms from itje and jackleung works flawlessy." - I specifically remember the OP asking for a cab and not a ROM. Which is where my information was directed.

hmm why would they install it in the windows folder and not in windows/manilla/ or something?
it's not a secret that filesystems on embedded devices are generally slow
Thanks
Thanks to everybody!
I'll probably backup everything and start trying cabs and roms.

Well, I think Guap is mostly right and you simply know nothing what you really talking about. Let me give you some fact:
1. First, you got to understand it's "non rom" files under /Windows tax more on performance. A clean WM has only about ~20 "non rom" files under \Windows, TF3D 2 alone (not including all the complicated dependence like camera, album, audio manager ..etc) put 2219 files to /Window if using cab (TF3D 1 is ~ 2000 files). Therefore, it's normal it's take 1000% more time.
2. From your words, it simply show you did not try enough custom roms before you made yr comment. All my rom (from 2.2 to 2.7) do not have camera button problem. Obeviously your "as far as i know" isn't far enough.
I stated earlier in other thread already. If you really want to use TF3D (v1 or v2), pick an custom rom and forget about CAB. Using a cab for TF3D is simply hiting yr toe w/ a rock because you will be disappointed by the speed and compatibity issue.
duplicated post.
I'm Kinda new to the forum and have only recently tried to add new apps and stuff to my X1.
There is a lot of information here about various versions of TF3D/Manilla and if I'm honest there is a little too much and I'm a bit lost amongst it all.
I should state that I have successfully installed a version of TF3D from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442154
but have since removed it due to 1 or 2 issues (worst of which was really slow performance when looking at the photo albumn and not being able to see photos taken with the camera on the pictures tab). So I thought I'd ask for some advice before re-trying.
Question 1.
Which is the best version to install from a stability/features included point of view. Also I am not confident with burning a new ROM so would prefer just a .cab instrall.
Question 2.
For the install recomended is there a way to have it as a seperate panel rather than a today screen replacement. Are there any drawbacks to installing as a panel?
Question 3.
Are there any issues when switched to lanscape mode? (there was on the version I used) if so which modification would be compatable with the one recomended.
Finally if there are any other recomendations you have, for example, further modifications to make the TF3D experience more pleasurable, should I not worry about rom flashing and are there any alternatives to TF3D which could give me the polished interface i am looking for.
Cheers all

Thanks but that leads me to one of the things i was confusedf about.
In the TF3D in Landscape mode thread it is stated that support for the app has been discontinued due to the release and porting of Manilla 2. So should I be using that? if so where can I get it?
Thanks to Sonny
Just wanted to bump this post to see if there was any other advice out there.
I did find the x-panel which look like it may have potential but just wasn't feature filled enough yet.
Cheers
Try TF3D 2 Beta 3
Ah! Just had a ton of pop-ups and now have to type all of this out again..!
Okay, will try to keep it short this time.
Try Daran_Clarke's TF3D 2 (Beta 3). It's taken from the new HTC Touch Pro 2. It includes the official HTC landscape view which works very well. You can install the CAB from here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=448178
Some advice though. The Right Softkey function gets changed when you install this so the function is to take you to the Today screen, rather than the option above it on the screen (such as Contacts or Menu etc). You can change the Button settings but whenever you restart the machine, this gets reverted back, so that it takes you to the Today screen.
Himuraken was kind enough to point me in the direction of a .dll file which corrects this problem. It's called ManilaToday.dll. There will already be a file named this in the Windows directory on your phone, which you will need to delete. You can't delete this from your PC using ActiveSync. You need to use the FileExplorer on your X1 and browse to the Windows directory. Once there, select 'Menu' then 'Show All Files'. It may take a minute or so to display anything because there are so many files there. Delete ManilaToday.dll and then use ActiveSync to copy the new one across to that same location (Windows directory). You might need to set the Right Softkey button function to Right Softkey, but then when you restart it will keep this setting. You can get the new ManilaToday.dll from here...

Now just if someone could make a Panel for this new TF3D 2! May be awkward tho, as I think there is a new Panel Manager with the new R3AA roms. The Panels designed for that don't work on R2 roms, such as the Growing Panel. So we need someone to make a Panel for this on both the new and old Panel manager! Doubt it'll happen though, and I doubt I'll have the R3AA rom for quite some time. O2 in the UK took literally about 5 months to release the R2 rom!
Regards
Sonny
Thanks again to Sonny I'll probably try that next.
I had i little bit of success with the original Touch-it install now though. I istalled the version 2 of the album app which seems to work much quicker that what is packaged in the Full CAB.
I still have 1 issue tho i wonder if anyone can help?
I want to be able to see all my pictures on the Photos and Videos tab without having to use album app. Currently only images in the my pictures tab display, I'd like to see images that have been taken with the camera whether they are stored in mypicture/camera/100xperia or on the memory card /dcim/100xperia/.
Is there anyway to change this?
Nevermind I sorted it now. Everything is working nice.
Now if only the lanscape app would work properly it would be perfect. Maybe a move to the install Sonny suggested will give me everything I'm after

That's provided you're using Beta 2 or earlier of the TF3D cab.
Yes and no, noobs or not, but, this is my question.....
I see some people having installed on the Xperia the WM 6.5
They did the X1_HardSPL_v1, and then installed the Touch it v9...great, but, where I am confused if after.....
when installing the Touch-IT, do we need to install also,
the ActiveX deployment,
the SDKcert Xperia,
the Diamond ATI_3dd_driver,
the R3A panel manager and the R3A camera
the dotNet FX 3.5 or not?
Also, it is a good idea, when installing a new OS, not to insert a microcard or not?
Perhaps, my post is not at the good place, and, if so, just tell me....
Thanks for your kindness, for me a lean and nice rom is the best
this would be the appropriate forum for a general question such as yours.
What you need to install completely depends on what the ROM you flashed contains. As far as I'm aware, here's what you'll need when using v9:
ActiveX deployment should be installed (for the growing panel to work).
SDKcerts are not installed by default.
The driver is optional, it depends completely on what you feel works best. Some people report improvement, others think it's worse. Itje does use other drivers than the stock ones, so again, test to find out!
Itje uses the newest panelmanager and camera, so no need to install those.
Using the memory card is optional as well, if you want to use it to store data, by all means, do so. It shouldn't matter if it's inside or not during activesync flashing. For 100% safety, take it out and put it back in after installation.

Then again I learned something, many Thanks Angel your nickname is appropriate
I a way, if we would know what is inside a Rom, would help...It is like, when some people post, say a software and forgot to tell this is for resolution X and Y....then, we glog, we do not google
Itje used to post complete lists, but later down the line he decided it's wasting time to create them, as many people don't pay attention to his posts anyway.

shame, because, this is where we begin the mistake to put that and that, when it is not needed, when it is making it worth, and......here you are, lots of cry's, and lost of post for nothing....
thanks anyway to answer to me, but, I still do not know what I must do or not....
Lots of hards reset, do you think Zperia can stand how many hard stuffs?
I am tossing around the idea of (attempting) making a ROM for my own use, and to share if people would like. Just something basic; stripping some apps, adding CHT, maybe the newest msging app for Sense, etc... The problem is that I have never done this. lol
So, where do I start. Where do I get the kitchen, the stock ROM to work with, the new msging app, etc?
Can anyone help...?
Oh, someone sent me a link to this a while back... I can't remember where though.
It was probably NRGZ28, as I think he got tired of me asking him to make a ROM not laced with neon blue.
I'm still curious about trying this myself, since I'd like to make ROM with zero HTC software, camera/camcorder apps aside. There's some pretty easy looking visual kitchens, but still, I'm lazy, and the Kumar series of ROMs are awesome to the point of me not caring about trying anymore.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=628948
I wanted this as well, but I didn't want a kitchen, that feels like a cheap file-pusher way to me.
I wanted to be able to take an nbh, use command line tools to unpack it, remove/add files (and know what those files are), and the re-pack it and flash it.
I want to know which files are for what, what's the expected file hierarchy, which files/program are really required and why. I basically want to know the whole system from top to bottom.
Eventual goal is to make very light rom that contains no HTC code (except for the necessary to run the hardware) and that looks as close as possible to the stock WinMo that M$ produces.
I tried searching online for that, but alas, all I could find were kitchens.
I'm sorry, I'm not that dumb, I want to do it all from scratch...

the kitchens are front ends to the command line software. Get a kitchen, look in its tools folder, and there are your command line tools.
You know there are several thousand files associated with even the lightest rom, right? doing it all manually will take you an age,.(my current roms kitchen has 30,000 files in it, and its already pretty light, 140meg nbh size.)
Even if you dont end up using a kitchen, having one that you can browse the folders of will help you understand the EXT, OEM, SYS packages etc etc.
i used Chucky's kitchen from his May9th upload and started taking things out.. i got the rom down to 71mbs and have all the basics working.. wifi, bluetooth, phone, data, txt.. etc.. about as light as it can get

Before people tell me to search the forums, that's what I've been doing for the longest time, trying every ROM on the Vogue forum. And before you tell me to try Android, I've done that too, and while I like it, I prefer Windows Mobile on this particular phone at the moment, but may put Android on it again sometime in the future.
The closest that I've found is NagROM V0.19 Touch, which is just a touch too basic. I'm looking for something like that, but with M2D and M2D Customiser, the HTC Cabs and Ringtones, the EZInput keyboard like in NFSFan's ROM, and Office 2007 or 2010. While I like the ROMs that come with other programs cooked in, such as Total Commander and PHM Registry Edit, I prefer the ROM coming without them so that when I go to install an updated version, I don't run into a problem. Too many times I've had problems installing a newer version of a program when it comes up telling me it has to uninstall the previous version, but can't, sometimes leaving me with just the old version, or both versions.
And before anyone says to cook my own, I've looked into guides, tried cooking my own, and the past few times I've tried, it wouldn't even boot up for the first time after flashing. I've tried numerous kitchens, some of which are supposed to be basic ones, perfect for beginners, but end up with one of a few problems: Not compatible with 64-bit windows, virus scanner blocks a crucial part, not meant for the Vogue, etc.
Basically what I'm asking is: Are there any basic ROMs with nothing more than M2D (and HTC cabs and Ringtones, and M2DC), EZInput, and Office Mobile 2007/2010 cooked in, or can someone HELP me with trying to cook my own (so that I can have it preconfigured for Verizon, MMS working and GPS set up)?

Haha, wow. I never expected someone to actually make it fer me! I'll have to try it out tomorrow as it's late now. Also, what kitchen do you use, Barogi? I still do plan on learning. (I'm a mix of hands on learning and being shown/flat out told what to do for the first time or three lol). Also, I assume it is set up as a Generic ROM (without the provisioning cab, MMS cab and settingsh, and Registry settings for GPS)? Also, as time goes more things come to mind to be cooked in (hence wanting to learn how to cook a ROM personally, and slowly becoming less basic ) lol. Still, thanks, majorly. I'll let you know how it works out when I try it tomorrow =3
Oh, and what version of EZInput is cooked in? I know I said "like the one in NFSFan's ROM," but that's only because I was unsure of the version (which I know now is 1.5.)

I use ppckitchen.org Buildos 2.0.0 And yes it is generic meaning you will need a carrier cab, Once you do install your carrier cab everything should work such as mms and gps. As for Ezinput i actually use a newer version than Nfsfans its (pcarvalho_ezInput_2.1_QVGA). If you want some help with cooking your own rom, just install ppckitchen buildos 2.0.0 since thats the only one ive ever used and know how to use and then send me a message on whatever you need some help with! Also if you want something changed in the rom i have already made for you before you get a chance to build your own, just let me know and ill do it.
EDIT: Had posted the wrong link to ppckitchen its supposed to be ppckitchen.org not .com
Hope you like it.

PPCKitchen BuildOS 2.0.0 is what I was using as well. I've used enough generic ROMs to know how to get it all working, so that's simple to do. Was just curious about that. I've gotten one ROM working through there, but somehow ended up with the Windows Mobile 6.1 splash screen (even though I changed it lol.) I'll try out your ROM, and I"ll keep playing with BuildOS. Hopefully I can get the file size down, and figure out how to cook in my own things, not just what's listed on the build menu lol. I'm kind of a hands on learner, kind of need to be shown multiple times, so playing around with it (though will take MUCH longer) SHOULD help me figure it out, but I'll keep in mind to PM you if I have any questions.

Ok great!
Alright, I'm trying out the ROM, and so far it looks great. Just one slight thing... I see you put in PHM RegEdit (an add on program I said I prefer installing myself so that when I go to update it I don't run into problems lol) Other than that, so far it looks perfect. Now if I could figure out how to cook a ROM where it isn't bigger than the stock, with just a few add in things as I think of them that I use regularly (and cook it as a Verizon specific ROM) then yay. Time to start playing with BuildOS while setting up my phone again lol

Ahh sorry about that Its just one of those programs that i figured you might want but perhaps had forgotten to ask for
Also i realized that after i had uploaded the rom that i forgot to add the reg edit to fix the 2016 date error on sms messages... Not sure if that affects you on Verizon, because i do not get it on Bell.
If you want... I can give you a list of the necessary things you should put in your own roms to make it function to its fullest.. like all the necessary bluetooth items and such?

It's alright, I think PHM is one of the ones that can be updated even if it's cooked in without any problems. And yes, the 2016 problem will affect me on Verizon. I had it happen to me on NagROM before, but already had the fix downloaded (someone made it into a cab) so I installed it to be on the safe side. As for the list of things to make it function to the fullest, please do. And if there is another way to contact you other than on here, can you tell me in PM? I'd like to contact you off of here for help with cooking a ROM. I've tried again, and it wouldn't even finish building this time. Out of about 8 times of cooking a ROM, it succeeded only once, but I forgot to compress it (this was before you made this ROM for me).
Also, slight problem, and quick question.
The problem is on M2D. The music tab. It says that it can't play the audio file and opens Windows Media Player. I haven't found anything on this yet and had it happen to me on a few ROMs. If it can't be fixed, that's fine, i can just take off the music tab (because I don't always slide along the bottom, I'll use the D-pad at times, and if other people play with my phone)
The question... Where can I find the default background for M2D? I changed the background using M2DC so it'll be on all the tabs, but you can't see the white text, so I wanna change it back until I find a different background.

Ill send you a pm with my cell number. Also I have always gotten that message when trying to use music tab. I dont think a fix has ever been mentioned... I know that it usually defaults to using audio manager and not the windows media player, perhaps that could be the problem?
The background... I think that you have to back up the default in M2DC before changing it in order to get it back, so that you can reload it. Just so you know, I don't use Manila at all on my phone, so im not quite sure how to fix many things on it. And remember that most issues are do to the fact that Manila is not made for our phones and has been ported over. But I will try my best to help you out.

I've had the music tab working before. I think NFSFan's ROM. And I'll just find a different background. I'll send you a text tomorrow before my class.

Yeah NFSFAN always cooked Audiomanager into his roms... you could put it in your own as well and it probably would stop the error.

Barogi...can I hit you up for a more basic one that that? I need the lighted WM ROM there is. I basically need Windows Mobile 6.5.3 and that's it...no extras.
If you could make one that has everything removed except Windows (even ezinput, office, ringtones, htc apps, etc...then I would be very appreciate
Of course if you have a kitchen link I can do it myself - thanks !!

any screen shots avail?
