Maybe I'm really thick & am missing something here, but what's the point of the "Outlook Email" in WM5?
OK, so it syncs with Outlook on the PC using ActiveSync, fine... but it can therefore only send/receive email when the device is connected & synched to the PC. Although the emails from the PC's Outlook copy over to the device, you can't reply to them with the device when the device is not synched to the PC.
If my XDA Mini S is connected & synched to my PC, I'm not gonna use my XDA to reply to emails, I'd use my PC!
Away from the PC, you can download pop email to a different account on the XDA, but... that account can't then be synched with the PC, only "Outlook Email" can be synched, & it can only be used when synched.
Err...you know you can sync with the server wirelessly via GPRS, EDGE, whatever, right?
Its pretty worhtless unless you use push. Atleast as far as I am concerned. It would be nice if it integrated it with your current pop3 account.
i used to think exactly that untill i changed my work over to use an exchange server then it really comes to life. they should creat a cut down program that lets you sync your desktop outlook over the net imo. then every home user could have push email.

Besides using an Exchange Server, as others have pointed out, bear in mind the same WM OS is also used on non-phone Pocket PCs. In the "good ol' days" you sync'd your PPC in the morning, read and replied to your e-mails on your PPC "on the go" and the next time you sync'd, the (as yet unsent) replies you'd composed during the day would transfer to your desktop PC and get sent by (desktop) Outlook.
If you don't use Exchange, then the Outlook Mobile e-mail box is probably useless to you unless your e-mails are non-urgent enough that you can wait until your next sync before your replies are sent, and your GPRS data charges are punitive enough to justify waiting. I have an unlimited data plan so I now use my Wizard as my primary e-mail device and simply have my IMAP accounts setup on the Wizard and disabled e-mail syncing entirely. (Frankly, since Microsoft disabled desktop sync over wi-fi in WM5 I find myself syncing only once a day or two instead of the several times a day I used to sync my PPC 2K2 and 2K3 devices!)
Basically my desktop PC is now my e-mail "archive" since I'm far more likely to read and reply to all of my e-mail on my Wizard.

I guess i'm still living in the good ol' days because thats exactly what i do!!!
question if i may, how do i set it so it syncs the entire email and i don't have to click on "get rest of email" thing on the bottom?
I also sync my phone in the morning and reply to any overnight emails throughout the day, then sync when I get home from work...
Unless it's an important email, in which case, I'll use GPRS to send it from my mobile account.
Push emails from home PC
Hi Guys,
If you have broadband and leave your PC on almost constantly then this may be what you're looking for.
http://www.emoze.com
I haven't tried it yet as I've literally stumbled over it myself but from what I can tell it takes your email as you receive it from your home PC and redirects it to your pda.
I'll let you know if it's any good but it's totally free so check it out for yourselves.
Have fun
Terry
My outlook email syncs (pushmail) with my work-exchange server over gprs, only during working ours.
And for private mail I have a pop3 box checking for new mail every 5 minutes.
Works great!

Yeah, but how much data wil be used by your GPRS connection?
Pertinent connection for syncing and also popping you mailbox every 5 minutes will not be that cheap I think
p.s. Wie is je provider en hoeveel ben jij per maand kwijt hieraan ongeveer?
Does anyone else use IMAP to sync? I have IMAP for my home mail and Exchange push for work, seems to work OK. IMAP uses a lot more data though than ActiveSync, and seems a lot slower, and Desktop's Outlook's IMAP client leaves a lot to be desired, but it is an option, at least.
Don't use Exchange, so it seems like the "Outlook Email" account is fairly pointless for me.

On your desktop PC in Activesync, after syncing but while still connected, double click on "e-mail" in the main pane and an option menu should come up. You can set the size of e-mail to sync there.
Thanks for the tips
Thanks for the help

I'm wondering if it's possible to remove outlook from the email tab of TF3D.
I never use it, I use GMail for my email, so it just takes up space, and irritates me that it doesn't remember gmail as default after soft reset.
Any ideas?
Do you mean that you've set it up, and now want to remove it...? if that's the case, you can remove it when connected to your PC using the WM Device Centre...
Honestly can't remember where, but it's there....
i think he means the fact that there are 2 emails to chose from in the tf3d email tab. top one is the outlook one and the 2nd is the gmail one
he is not using the outlook..
anyway i have the exact same issue..restarting tf3d or phone resets to the default (outlook). so you have to manually select gmail afterwards
it takes one click but it can be annoying when you'r in a hurry
You can solve it by deselecting to synchronize your email with outlook in activesync.
After you have done that just remove the oulook email account and it will not come back anymore.

I had the same issue. Deselecting the syncronization removed the icon from the eMail page, all other settings I left unchanged.
Well, my problem is exactly the opposite. My outlook icon disappeared and I found no way to put it back there, even removing and recreating the outlook account...
@[email protected]
weird but it worked...
Cheers guys, worked like a charm.
I still dont see how i can delete it on the X1..i dont even have outlook intalled on my PC.
So i cant deselect synchronizing with outlook because i dont even have it..so how do i get rid of it?
Thanks for reading this request...
Some how I have got an indication of 2 emails on the email indictor on my ORANGE UK Touch 3G.
I have checked for emails on the device but can't find anything I've missed. Any thoughts how to correct the indicator..
Thanks Phil
go to your email inbox. In the upper left corner, it should say inbox. If you click on it, you get a list of other folders, including sent, bulk, and trash. You might have one that says "Outlook Email" Check in that folder for unread emails. Probably have the subject "Email tips and tricks".
Hi,
Thanks for that, must have missed those Outlook ones tucked away....
Phil
No prob. Always comes up after you set up a new exchange or activesync or something. forget which does it.
little bit off topic
Is it possible to get rid of Outlook E-mail folders?
I sync only my contacts and calendar from Outlook, never email. It is not ticked. My default email program on my desktop PC is Windows Mail, not Outlook. But the Outlook folders are there cluttering the screen.

AFAIK the outlook Inbox is defaulted and cannot be deleted. When you uncheck, it just do not sync with your PC/notebook, but the folder is still there. Similar with other email accounts.
Thank you, azahidi

I have 4 accounts setup for email. Strange thing is that the mail icon always has a "1" on it indicating one new email but when I goto the mail screen all 4 of my account icons have nothing and I checked them all and nothing. Anyway to reset this indicator? Seems to be stuck on "1" It will go higher when new mail arrives but will not clear after I read all my mail.
Thanks
solution probaly
Got the same for a while (with 2 accounts configured).
Try to open outlook.
start - messaging
You'll see all your accounts and... outlook.
Probaly there's 1 email: "welcome to outlook, blablabla..."
Hope it helps
Thanks bang on. I never looked at the outlook one as I don't use outlook but it was there. I would delete it but it was used for the google sync setup. Indicator is gone now.
Thanks again
Hi guys,
i got an issue that i cannot solve and the search function didnt give any solutions.
I got gmail IMAP Account on my HD2 and when i click on send and receive, only the unread emails are downloaded.
I should be able to see all emails if i go to the folder "all emails" and press send/receive again, but altough it connects, it doesnt download anything.
So the question: Is there a way to see your already read emails on your mobile phone in wm6.5 with the hd2
Thanks in advance,
Ali
are you checking teh mail from another machine? (PC perhaps) that could be removing the messages once you send and recieve from there.

i do, but it doesnt remove or download them.
When going into my gmail account online, i still can see all entries.
i checked that already
Are they in the inbox or in "all mail" in Gmail?
Only those in the inbox will display. If your other PC moves them out of it (or gmail does it on its own once the mails are retrieved by the PC) they wouldn't show.
Must be such an issue, because I use 3 imap accounts on my HD2, that are also used by 2 other PCs, and everything's fine. Those are on my own server though.
If you use gmail on the HD2 you might want to use activesync instead of imap though....

They are not moved out, in my gmail account i can see all emails in "all mail" and "inbox"
But even if, the mobile email app also has a "all mail" folder of gmail so it should work anyway
The active sync thing is not a thing you can use when you arent at home. i would like to read new emails on my phone too.

I think I see what you mean, I encountered the same "issue" and found the solution "by accident": by default the Gmail account is set to keep emails from the 3 or 6 previous days, so that it erases the messages older than 3 or 6 days on you HD2. You can set a different time period, up to 30 days I think, but no sure...
The thing is I can't remember where it is... sorry, but that may be a lead...

No, it's actually better than just imap as it enables mail push. So instead of having to check mail every X minutes it's in permanent connection through activesync over data, and you simply receive mail as soon as it arrives on your gmail account.

i know, with wm6.1 you could assign that, this isnt possible anymore as the new account options are very few

oh! i didnt know that, do i have an "imap-like" function with it too even if using a non imap client such as "pop"? I mean are mails erased after syncing them to my mobile phone from server?
i ll go and start googling how to setup my mails through active sync ...
thanks for the hint!
hmm, no good finding in xda with google.
Kilrah, can you tell me where to set it up?
Its not the usual sync-email feature where you connect your phone to the connectivity center.
is it the "outlook" account when in email tab??
If yes, whats the server adress?
im confused )

Yes, works pretty much like imap.
Regarding how to choose for how many days it will display, it's still there, still at the same place. Don't forget to scroll the menu down

One last off topic question. Where are the emails saved to and how can i change it if it is the main memory?
