Mobile 6.5 on Diamond 2

That's great to have all those pics in one place! D
BTW, do you have a picture of the other lateral side of the diamond 2? The one opposite to the volume up/down buttons?
I think that contrary to the HD, it is possible to access the microSD card without removing the back-cover (there is an external microsd slot), but I am not sure...

HTC Touch Diamond vs HTC Touch Diamond 2 – size comparison

The slot that can be seen on that side of the phone is the grille for the speaker. The MicroSD slot is below it, and is not accessible without removing the cover

Thanks for the info, it is unfortunate but not too bad, I intend to buy a 16 Gb micrsd anyway so it is not like I will swap those everyday ;-)
Thickness comparison is very interesting, I wonder why such an increase of the bottom (cover) thickness, the frame seems to have remained more or less the same. If someone already have a physical TD2, it would be interesting to see the battery compartment compared to TD1, to see if the increase of size is more than what can be expected from the 900 mAh -> 1100 mAh transition. He he, I am already hoping for larger battery without changing the back cover ;-)
Given that the electronic is not likely to be larger than in TD1, and that the screen is also unlikely to be thicker, I have the feeling that a larger battery could have been fitted easily, maybe at the expense of weight but this is much less a problem than size/thickness imho...
Besides that, the screen seems more bluish compared to the yellowish TD1 screen....That's something I like

i think its step in the wrong direction from the old diamond in terms of external design
-the zoom bar just makes the phone bigger and its quite usless most of the time. having a smaller phone or a bigger 3.4" screen is much better.
-the old us diamond came with 1340mah even though its thinner and smaller

I agree. Diamond2 is very ugly.

Agreed, the battery is too small, I smell an "extended" battery coming later (because it is more like the one included is reduced ;-) )
The zoom bar is no problematic, it is the dead space below the buttons that should be reduced. This, if smaller side borders are possible, would allow a screen .2'' bigger, and it would be the perfect screen size/ portability for me, as I find the TD2 size just right.
Dead space seems like a very bad design decision for devices where space on the front side is at a premium.

That's a very old ROM on the Diamond II...
looks like the early prototype ROM ...

Hehe, yes, I think it is a older prototype (the diamond in the wild ;-) ): look at the buttons: there is a home logo, which is replaced by the windows logo on the official pictures. Probably changed at the time the windows button requirement for WinMo6.5 was known...

Also, the zoom bar design has changed...and the metallic frame has a very "artisanal" look on the pics, it looks like it has been made manually or with a cruder stamping that the official model (the wild TD2 had much more squared edges, while the official one is more rounded and is cleaner/more regular)
Wow, this wild TD2 must have been an early prototype, like a concept phone ;-)

Hmm..I have to disagree.
I like the look of the new diamond. Looks a little more grown up and 'polished' if you will. As for the zoom bar, they needed something to replace the functionality of the D-Pad (which took up too much space IMHO) since Win Mo doesn't seem to support it natively. Dunno, I think it is an improvement.

Just perfect!
I like the design of the TD2 too and I think the Zoombar is very useful, using google maps etc. I took a look at it at the cebit two weeks ago and hold it in my hands - just brilliant! The way HTC combined the Aluminium and the plastic looks and feels very noble.
I'll take it
I just hope the Touch HD apps will work on the Diamond too and the processor will not lack!

Diamond 2 Without Scroll
Would have prefered no scroll pad on the face but on the sides of the device HTC Needs to make more use of the Gsensor in the UI Navigation and Digital TV - HTC Touch Media ???
Have pre ordered a Boring old Touch Diamond 2 for the 15th

I love the front design, and I do think we can do without the zoom bar. However, I find the back a real disappointment. The triangle surrounding the camera lens looks ugly, esp the fact that there's no facets like D1.
To top if off.. they had to use a glossy surface, which most of us would call it "the fingerprint magnet". It would have been better if they could go with the aluminium finish or matt black with symetrical design.
I wonder why such an increase of the bottom (cover) thickness, the frame seems to have remained more or less the same. Don't forget that this guy has a microSD card, which causes it to be as thick as the D1+1340mAH battery. I would rather have a 8-16GB built in memory with much bigger battery.

I really like it too. I was thinking of upgrading in the next couple weeks but looks like I am going to have to wait a little longer until this is released. I just saw on another thread that t-mobile has redesigned it a little and it looks even better. It will be interesting to see what other carriers do with it before they release it. And if they are coming out with theirs in June I hope others aren't too far behind.

I think its very beautiful . . . but the TP2 is more beautiful IMO.

Does anybody know with wich backside it ships? I really hope it is the non-shining black one, and not the shiny one

Different Versions / Colors of EVOS

So we bought 3 EVO's yesterday.
2 of them were a darker black and appeared smoother then the other one which was lighter black which appeared to have a tiny bit of texture.
Which versions do you guys have?

(Light Black more textured version)
(Top Light Black (more textured) | Bottom Dark Black (smoother)
I've got the lighter, more textured version.
Frankly, I'm starting to get pretty damned mad at HTC with all these little 'surprises'. First they start substituting different types batteries in some Evos, and now they decide to begin alternating battery covers? This isn't cool at all. What if a certain population with one type of battery cover discovers that theirs is more fragile than the other? I can't imagine HTC alternated for nothing more than aesthetic appeal.
Combined with the software issues we're experiencing, I'm seriously considering returning this phone, as much as I love it. This just screams poor quality control and uniformity.

I'm pretty certain the only difference is one of your battery covers is jacked up.. from what I can tell, both EVOs look the same exact around the rim of the phone.

They're definitely different battery covers. The smooth one appears to pick up some lint and hair. The textured version is unable of doing this, judging by the surface and time I've had it in my pocket.

Again 2 of my EVOs are smooth dark black, and one of them is lighter black with a little more texture.
I was going to guess the lighter colored textured version was the oddity but I've talked to 2 people now that have this version.
EDIT.
From the Sprint literature it appears to be flat dark black:
Again I see other reviews from people where they have the lighter more textured backing and side edges:
Confirmed.
The lighter grey version is from the first batch. The darker black is from the second batch.
Lots of differences (battery, sd card, case)

How are we supposed to react to this? HTC must have changed it for some reason besides aesthetic appeal. Personally, I'm wondering if the first batch of batteries has a few duds, seeing as how there are so many varied outcomes of battery life. If it is, I certainly won't be a happy camper, having one of the gold-trimmed batteries myself.

Dude if this makes you want to return it... then maybe you should get a iPhone. The EVO is awsome, and a different texture doesn't bother me in the slightest. Nor does the battery issue, because when the Extended Batteries come out, I will be buying a "baby bump" for my EVO. And you can take that to the bank.

Are you really that defensive over a cell phone? I am as big an Android fan as they come, so I'm not criticizing Android. I am obviously questioning HTC. There ARE other smartphone manufacturers beside HTC and Apple, you know.
I am not annoyed solely over the battery cover itself being different. I am annoyed over HTC making such a significant switch in batteries, covers, and SD cards for no apparent reason in the second shipment. There could be a world of differences in a batch of devices created in April/May and a batch manufactured this month. So the battery issue doesn't affect you personally; so what? It affects everybody else who suffers from it, and not everybody can afford to or wishes to buy an extended battery to rectify HTC's mistakes.
You also completely ignored my points regarding the software issues. This hardware switch isn't the only thing strange about the Evo since its launch, let alone the light bleeding and poor screen grounding. Factor in the 30fps graphic cap, touch sensor lag, and poor Wifi reception, and it's nothing short of a pain in the neck for people who expected to get their money's worth. It's clear that HTC isn't treating this like a flagship device, otherwise they wouldn't be making little switches and software changes like this.
Mine is definitely the blacker more rubbery backing. So I guess I lucked out and got the 2nd batch. I got it at a radioshack at 6am on launch day too, so I guess they had both batches on launch day. No wonder I haven't been having all the issues some of the users are having.
I don't have light leakage, don't have battery issues, don't have bottom screen lifting, no SD card issues. 2nd batch has less issues maybe?
Do you have light leak? Take it out of any covers and go to a completely dark room and look under the 4 menu buttons and see if you see any light leak.

Returning it will not fix the software issues the phone has. Furthermore, I'd have to get it exchanged by HTC, since I bought mine from Wirefly. Even if I wanted a phone from the second batch, I'd have to wait quite a while for the supply to increase again.

No light leak at all. But if the room is completely dark, the touch icons have a slight glow, but definitely not a light leak below that on the seam.

You have to take brochure pictures with a grain of salt. The timing is sometimes such that you're creating a brochure before the final product is actually ready. Often times you will have untextured plastic, no logos, etc, in your photography models. It then all gets corrected in photoshop. It's really amazing what they can do, but it doesn't always match up 100% to the final product.
I posted this I the other thread, but I will put it here too.. What hardware versions are your phones?

Mine is the smoother, darker black and is hardware version 3.
Tiny bit of light seepage under bottom function buttons
Good battery life
Set to CDMA (auto) by default (*#*#4636#*#*)
Battery Cover fits perfectly
Samsung class 2 MicroSD card
Battery is completely red with black writing and patches of black on it. Part #35H00123-22M

I have the lighter, smooth cover and my hardware version says 002.
So there is definitely something different.
Also, another thing about the battery cover is this:
The people with the first batch (hardware version 002) seem to have a flimsy battery cover. By this I mean, the right side seems to not fit after you remove it a couple of times. It sticks out a little bit.
Can the newer batch (hardware version 003) confirm the battery door resting flush?
Revision 3 here. Case is a dark black color but seems pretty smooth to me. AData SD card. Battery looks red but has the gold trim on the back. 2 small patches of light leak at the bottom of the screen under the function keys. Never had any issue with my battery cover not fitting.
Mine came from Sprint Releases. Ordered the day before launch day, received it the next Monday
Edit: forgot I swapped my card. It came with a Samsung

Dell Venue Pro Review: All the tiny details and more!

I’ve had the chance to use a Dvp for a while now and the following are my impressions of the device.
1) AMOLED screen: Not impressed. Colors were great, but pixilation is an issue for me. I can literally see pixels on this screen. HD2 has a larger screen with same resolution and I didn’t notice pixels like I noticed pixels on the Dvp.
2) Gorilla glass: Tough stuff! And I mean tough! I’ve already put it through its paces and tested it. Trust me; it’s very tough for the screen to get scratches. I’ve tried nails, knives, and even the floor. It was difficult for me to give it scratches especially with given pressure. This was amazing. The curvature has no effect on function at all. You really can’t feel its curved unless you’re in landscape mode – but even still, you can barely feel the curve. The curved glass is all aesthetics, I believe. It’s pretty I admit.
3) Rubber surroundings: this includes the rubber part that surrounds the top and bottom of the screen as well as around the keyboard. This rubber material is tough. It’s also difficult to scratch it. I tried to put pressure with my finger nails, but it didn’t leave a single mark. It does, however, attracts oils very fast!
4) Silver trimmings: These are cheap silver coated plastic. They scratch very easily and I mean VERY EASILY. They look great though, and are built to be as streamlined as possible. I did notice that my silver trimming wasn’t fully aligned with screen. I’ve already brought up this issue in another thread thinking it may be just this device but others are also report that their silver trimmings aren’t aligned as well. It could be a manufacturing defect due to the way the sliding mechanism is built.
5) Back plastic battery cover: what’s very unique about this back cover design is that it has actual engravings with tiny holes. Each one of those lines and dots are holes. Can dust get into those crevices over time? Yes and maybe. I think it’s very nicely design. It gives the feeling of something intriguing in the hands. The back cover is made of plastic. It doesn’t feel as cheap as the back cover of the HTC EVO or Incredible. But it isn’t as strong as the metal on the HD2. It’s rigid and isn’t really flexible. My only gripe about the back cover is that it didn’t fully cover the back entire. There was a gap along the side where I was able to see the SIM card slot’s metal plating underneath-Almost like the HD7’s gap where you can see the sim card even with the back cover on. – Nonetheless, this back cover fits like a perfect glove!
6) Keyboard: awesome keyboard. Great tactical feedback. I think I love it. It can be a little larger but its fine. The individual keys are actually tiny little islands if you look closely. I can tell that over time, dust will get under it. The keyboard isn’t like the HTC touch pro where its one long slab of plastic. I do wish that the keyboard would be more integrated with the OS more. Nothing happens if you’re just sliding it out and typing. You have to be somewhere where there’s text input for the keyboard to work. The keyboard’s backlight also turns off very quickly if you’re not typing. I wish it stayed on little longer. Registry tweaks anyone?
7) Screen Bleeds and LED buttons (back, start, and search): The screen will bleed when the LED lights are on. I’ve noticed bleeding from the following areas: Between the grooves where the G.glass meets the rubber near the top and bottom, groove between G.glass and silver trim of the left “back key” and right of the “search” key, and bleeds from bottom side of the earphone. With the LEDs, I wish they would be brighter! I can’t tell if they are on until I’m in complete darkness. And even then, the LEDs are very DIM- still useable though. Same thing with the keyboard, the LEDs don’t stay on for very long. I say about 5 secs? until they go off. Registry tweak anyone?
8) Camera and framing: Crappy camera, but what can you say, it’s a phone. Then again, my HD2 performed better. Someone here also mentioned that it’s very hard to get a sharp picture no matter how hard you are motionless. This is true. I rested the phone and took a picture. I have steady hands, but yet, I can’t seem to get a sharp image. It’s blurry for some reason. Weird. It’s a good camera for sending picture and uploading to facebook etc, but don’t think that it will chug-out pictures like an HD2. Another thing is framing: When you frame and take your pictures, you’ll see more after you’ve pressed the shutter button. It’s almost like the screen is the viewfinder, but the camera will capture more than what you see on the screen. It’s hard to explain this one. It could be an OS issue. Bright LED flash. No other comments on this one.
9) Power button, and camera button access: Since the phone slopes and curves into itself, it makes pressing these buttons a little difficult. Their placement isn’t the issue. It’s the accessibility; I feel like I have to work to get to them. They aren’t on a flat surface, but on a curved slopping surface which makes it hard. What do you guys think?
10) Speakers: Both earphone and bottom “stereo?” speakers are great. I say stereo because the
sound quality is amazing. It’s amazing compared to most smart phones today. They thump the device at high volumes, and retain clear audio that doesn’t distort. It would be nice if they placed another speaker behind that other mesh grill. Unfortunately it’s a microphone. So really, only the right side (underneath the “search” button) is the speaker.
11) Weight and size: in length, it’s slightly longer than the Hd2 with keyboard closed. In width, it’s just as wide as the Hd2 .Almost identical (HD2 has very little bezel around its screen). The rest of the phone’s size is obvious. In weight, it’s just a tad heavier than the HD2, though not by a lot. Definitely tolerable if you’ve owned the HD2 before and had no problems.
12) OS, speed and performance: two words…Buttery smooth! If this OS was a fully developed and matured OS like the iOS, then it would heavily rival the iOS right now in terms of speed and performance. I’ve never used a device that was so fluid in touch response!- This either beats the iphone4 or is equivalent to it. The Dvp really delivers on this aspect! This itself, could make the entire WP7 switch all worth the wild! Other have reported freezing issue. I’ve not to have that yet. *Knocks on wood.
13) Battery life: I’ve lasted an entire day surfing over wifi, texting, calling, and tinkering getting used to the device. That was some long lasting battery life.
14) Conclusion and Over all build: Amazing build over all. It’s stiff. It’s sturdy, and it feels like a $500 device. However, it does has imperfections which are noticeable only to those who are meticulous about their devices and will notice them when there’s backlight bleed, loose buttons or unaligned silver trimmings. Most people won’t notice this until it pointed out. See what I mean? Dvp is fast and responsive. This itself could make the $500 all worth the wild. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a DVP. This IS the WP7 device. It was meant for this OS.
The dell venue pro is a highly recommended device- if you can get pass the whole SHIPPING and ordering issues, which has been proved to be a painful experience with many users so far. Let me know what you guys are thinking.
I hope that this review has been helpful to you. The “thank you” button is below if you are generous. =)
I like this review, very informative and good to see that you did some testing.
Lol @ the fingernail testing, did you sharpen the nails first?
So are you keeping it?
Thanks, for this Review.
Great review there.. The one comment I would make about the camera is that for a phone coming out at the end of 2010 at this price the camera should be better. I used the HD7 for a bit and even with the pink hue of that one the camera on that phone is much better.. I hope this is something that Dell can address with updates and that it is not a hardware issue.

all the testing was done on a small scale so results aren't noticable if malignant. With the screen scratch test, after i knew pressure + scalpel didn't phase the screen (tested in the corner, of course), i went onto a large scale.
All other testing was done on a small scale but results should be indicative of a real situation.
My device still looks brand new as if nothing has happened to it!

Are you serious? I've never seen a weaker flash. On my other phones, I can take a picture inside a small bathroom with the door closed and the lights off, and the flash will light up the room bright enough for the picture to seem like it was taken with the lights on. With the DVP it looks like there's a faint candelight providing the ambient light.
very nice review. here are some comments:
I think the screen color is good enough. I never had phone with AMOLED screen, I compare it to samsung vibrant with super AMOLED, it about same.
the battery life is not great. I played with the phone for few hours with wifi on, use internet explorer, text, marketplace, the battery bar seem to fall from 100% to 75% in 2 hours.
is the grilla glass really tough? I dont think metal will not leave any mark on it. I dont want to risk it to try it.
they keyboard seem to be smaller than the on screen keyboard, I wanted this phone because of the keybord, this is first phone I tried with physical keyboard, when i actually the keyboard, the keys are squeezed together, it is better to take my finger nail to pin on it.
I have not seen and LED on the phone. where are they?
speaker is loud enough. I like that.
the WP7 OS interface is good, but I think it is flexible as old windows mobile, cannot install cabs, can only install apps from marketplace, no file explorer, task manager, no compass, no gps software.
everything else is good.

very nice review. here are some comments:
is the grilla glass really tough? I dont think metal will not leave any mark on it. I dont want to risk it to try it.
I have not seen and LED on the phone. where are they?
speaker is loud enough. I like that.

The glass is that tough. Trust me!
the LEDs are the sensor buttons itself. (Back, start, and search). It's super DIM and you'd probably only notice it in complete darkness.
it would be cool to see a registry tweak to have the Windows logo/button flash and act as a notification LED when a new email/SMS/VM has arrived.

all the testing was done on a small scale so results aren't noticable if malignant. With the screen scratch test, after i knew pressure + scalpel didn't phase the screen (tested in the corner, of course), i went onto a large scale.
All other testing was done on a small scale but results should be indicative of a real situation.
My device still looks brand new as if nothing has happened to it!

Just curious lemon what would you use to clean the glass. and have you had issues where the screen just turns off and wifi issues where the phone freezes up

you are full of ****. Your is from OmniVision model nV5642.
All this information is on yourpicture properties.
not only that, you've edited your images in photoshop cs4.
Get the outta here!
LOL! Nice try enders.
Actually, the info on the one photo says it was take with an HD7.
I only used photoshop to resize the image . . . . so there is an OmniVision in my dell? What?
Here is another no compression this time . . . still using the first dell phones . . .

Looks like the photo is legit unless the OP mod'd the Exif. My DVP also says OmniVision with the same model #.
There has never been an issue with daylight pictures. They actually look pretty good. It's the low-light pictures that require a flash that have been problematic. The flash on this camera is just flat-out the weakest I've ever seen on a smart phone.
It's possible that it's just a poor design as opposed to a defective component. Check any other phone, and you'll see sort of a yellow "lens" with concentric circles that I believe serves to intensify the LED flash. The DVP, for some reason, lacks this lens. The LED is covered by a flat piece of clear plastic with some "grating" pattern painted onto it.

Xperia ZX (MY OWN CONCEPT)

hi first off i spoke with an admin and was told that it's fine to post my ideas.
So i thought i'd share my concept,
I made a thread a few months ago that got alot of negative feedback. I then made a thread showing my first ideas of concept but it wasn't in the right section, So i thought i'd post it here. Since then i have started making my own concept pictures of what i want the xperia z successor to look like.

the xperia z as i have mentiond before is a master piece and i don't want sony to steer away from this, Being square minimalistic phone. The xperia z is basically my dream phone but i want some improvements so thats why i decided to make my own.
My own design idea would involve a sony developed oled screen, Stereo front speakers, Sony logo at the side not the front, Xperia logo much less sticking out placed in the corner. The camera in these pictures is just a placeholder. The onscreen menu buttons would be hidable with an easy swipe and fully customizable, Such as changing size icons placement (bottom top left or right) color, Since it's a oled screen you won't see that the buttons are part of the screen itself, So you can do alot with that like having a full keypad and a smaller screen to work on when for example in phone mode.
i also thought of a aluminium design instead of glass but i don't want it to be textured like the one in these pictures i want a solid matte black backside with no texture on it
lastly a xperia tablet z padfone concept that let's you dock the phone in a xperia tablet z battery/screen thats ofcourse also waterproof like the phone (i know aluminium might not work for a waterproof phone but it's just ideas)
then comes my "crazy" ideas that would be a tiny screen at the side of the phone instead of the sony logo showing for example the time or a extra oled slipout screen that would act as a gamepad just like the xperia play but instead of an actual pad just an extra screen
good job buddy
To be honest I find the speaker grills hideous. The back as well, an all aluminium casing wouldn't be nice I guess, at least not in matte. Just my opinion, though. And placing the Sony logo on the side would be awkward. The only thing I'd like to see on my XZ is the LED notification light of the ZL. But keep trying different stuff, everybody got their own taste. And as long you enjoy creating new concepts, keep doing so, regardless of what others might say or think.

what kind of speaker grills would you prefer (i was thinking of swapping places with them so the bottom one is at the top and top one is at the bottom) as for the sony logo i think it would look nice at the side
and a completely black aluminium back like the htc one would also be nice in my opinion
this is an older concept i did
Good !
Now put sony Logo on bottom Grill of Speaker and make it like its Glowing when Phone on,and also make this Sony logo the Home Button, what do you think?
Xenone Flash on Back of the Phone.

could you remake your design in the same square shape as the z and zl
then have extra thin bezels like the zl or thinner with stereo front speakers
here is my compact mode feature you drag the onscreen menu buttons out and it reveals a full sized keypad that stays untill you drag it down to onscreen buttons size
drag it further and hide it all completely
Needs branding on the front or back, a plain front is too iPhoneish, although my perfect device would be the same width and height dimensions of the 4S as a 5" screen is just a tad too big, because depending what you're doing you need both hands to use it.

+1. What I'd like to see is an illuminated Sony logo, similar to my HX Bravia, but you could have it on the Phone so the front looks plain (the design would probably lead to a slight ghosting of the logo) until you turn on the screen.

That doesn't look bad, similar to the display on the MW600? But that render for me highlights why you need frontal branding, imo it looks like it could be any old Japanese import. Here's my tweak of your render...

i would add the sony logo but i honestly want it to be empty at the front with really thin bezels it being that much squared is abit too much though
i prefer it to how i made it very thin bezel and a big screen
though add the sony logo
original z is simply the most pretty smartphone i ever seen
design is absolutely perfect
the only minor things i would like to change are those ''trap'' for waterproof stuff
actually, adding an physical and designed button for camera would be nice and avoid any trap

[Q] is it just me or is the top bezel thicker than bottom (and other small worries)

I've been following the z2 eagerly, ever since the first leak and i had a fear that it it no longer symmetrical, i have done alot of analyzing of pictures and videos and it to me seems like the top bezel is EVER SO SLIGHTLY thicker than the bottom meaning theres no symmetry.
I have a ocd like obsession with design and symmetry, which is why i choose the z series since the first z, it also to me sadly seeme the z2 has been more rounded than the z1 which to me is a slight dissapointment.
Second off it seems both the back glass and the metal frame has gotten a bluish hue, from what i have seen i liked the z1's gun metal grey frame i don't understand why they changed it infact more black would be nice too, other videos show it in a more premium like silver which i like alot so it is hard to judge as many videos look different.
A positive thing is that it seems they got rid of that ugly plastic strip inside the metal frame that the z1 had, it ruined the design for that phone in my opinion and i adore the design of my z1 just hated that plastic.
other than these microscopic worries the phone seems to be my absolute dream phone inside and out.
I think its the SONY branding, sensors, camera and the black stripe of the speaker bar that gives the impression of a greater bezel up top.
Can't really tell you.
if you're really obsessed with symmetry, maybe you should bring a ruler when you about to buy it later

zz, Taking a longer much closer look at your example image of the bezel , I think your right , it's very tiny difference...but it's there .
It does not really bother me though, I'm much more OCD about keeping my phone in pristine condition, so as soon as I recieve mine it will be on with a front & back screen protector and case :silly:

oh this is not what i wanted to know due to my obsession
and i am ocd about EVERYTHING i spent hours yesterday looking up pictures and videos comparing them to eachother to get the right look of the frame some pictures show it with a dark like blue which is ok other show it with a purple silver like hue which to me is a little on the girly side but i need to see myself before i judge the phone is so perfect that i am nitpicking the heck out of it
the other small tiny worry is that it seems they wen't back to the blue like black glass like the original z
i liked the blue like frame on the original z so chances are i'll like z2 aswell
but WHY would they touch the already perfect z1 design they only needed to add the thinner bezels speakers and screen and get rid of that plastic the design was perfect as it was
if they even dare putting XPERIA in big letters at the front on their next flagship then i won't even bother even trying to consider that it would entirely damage the phone beyond repair for me
the z1 was so perfect but i guess i can't expect them to mae a phone after my taste the omnibalance design was almost that
edit:it all makes sense now they only reduced the bezel at the bottom not the top
which means the top bezel is the same thickness as z1
it all makes sense now

I read that the top bezel has to be that size to fit the camera module (camera module is too large to fit behind the LCD and keep the phone thin). So it makes sense that they can't shrink it. Good investigating!
Why are we even talking about this subject? If the bezel was bigger on one side..... who cares?

The OP? What is the purpose of your post? OP clearly said he's obsessed with this. I answered the poll out of memory but now I see it, it really is a tiny bit out of symmetry. I will possibly do my own analysis.
To you, OP. The edges still have the plastic, its just in perfect alignment with the metal so that the curvature is perfect. This was one of my favorite improvements in the phone design.
PS. I suggest meditation and relaxation techniques for your ocd.

Ugly and boring

I love the look of my G4 with the leather. It stands out among all the Galaxy and iPhones.
Now the G5 looks too much like those phones... and the non black chin on the front is ugly af.

Also, I hate that they took the volume keys off the back. They worked great there in my opinion and made things like taking a screenshot one handed super easy.
Oh well, hopefully they either make the battery non-removable and/or not include an sd card option. That would effectively kill this phone as a choice for me.
I've had the g2, g3, and currently using the g4. If the g5 looks like the leaked photos above, I'll pass by it. No way would I be interested in that ugly mofo.
Currently, my dream phone would be:
- LG G3 size (G4 got just too big enough to require my hand to do a shuffle to reach the top opposite corner)
- LG G4 leather backplate options (with the NFC/Qi wireless sticker that's like $10 on ebay)
- LG G3 bezels (G4 got bigger bezels, WTF?)
- Stainless steel instead of plastic chrome on the edges
- LG V10 fingerprint scanner and volume rockers all on the back
- LG G4 camera quality
- USB-C for the rare occasion you want to transfer large files fast or charge it faster than Qi.
- Much more powerful IR blaster
- Swappable battery and microSD card, of course (like all previous LG G's)
- Stock Android (not likely, but hey dreamphone)
Only LG could make a superior metal phone look more like plastic than anyone else. The G3 looks more metallic than this thing.
Very sad design.
Really the back side doesn't bother me much since I will have a case. The only part that I don't like about the front is that big chin on the bottom (although the black version looks way better than this silver version.) I am curious though since that piece is removable if LG or a third party could make a replacement for it that would be more sleek and not so big. I think that would improve its look a lot.
Looks like a Nexus 6p,iPhone 6 plus design languange.
I cant believe how many OEMs are copying the boring design of the iphone.
HTC, Sony, LG , Huawei and even samsung.
Seriously, it isnt that good. Its bland and has nothing going for it
For proof, check the "latest" flagships of these OEMs And let me not even start with planned obsolecence of the removable battery...

Lol, why didn't you say iphone copied everything you just listed from HTC?
The camera bump thing reminds me of the Xiaomi Mi2S with a custom back cover that I have seen for it...
I really hope this is a prototype cause that is fugly as hell.
Why do you care so much what it looks like? So long as it does the job I would be happy. My main beef is no upgrade in internal storage from 32G. Yes i have a 128GB microSD card, but many apps dont let you transfer all to the card. needs 128GB internal to future proof it ( but that would mean no need to upgrade for a long time! not good marketing!) Dont like metal, too heavy and shocks the phone if dropped, more likely to crack the screen. If it keeps the FM radio, microSD expansion slot and removeable battery, which the others dont have all of, it will still be the stand out phone.
All will be revealed tomorrow I guess. Can't wait for the G6 though
Im using the G4, I love the curved display and the leather backcover, thats what i miss.
I got nothing but disappointment for this 5th iteration of the G series. Like several before said this phone is God awful ugly. There should at least be a black option. The colors are all too pastel. Perfect for some women...but nothing about the curves or design speaks to me. Not pleased about moving the volume rockers to the side. Lord only knows how much extra all those extra attachments will cost. I don't keep phones long enough to invest in cases and accessories anyway. I like my phones naked better. I love my V 10 maybe they won't muck that up too much! The next V just need the internals updated and that's all!!!
I think the design looks great. But end of the day, do we really care what a phone looks like? Id rather we went back to soft touch plastic than metal or glass. Most of us just put a plastic case over our phones anyways.
I left Android for 6 Plus after using it exclusively since 2010 or so. The G5 is the first Android phone that is compelling enough for me to consider switching back. The modular design to me is groundbreaking. I'm a big audio guy, so I'd definitely buy the DAC. Who knows what other cool accessories they'll make for it. LG deserves major praise for being the first brand to figure out how to design a metal unibody phone with a removable battery.
I felt this way. Then I kept watching hands on videos. Your mind will change. This phone looks very nice IN HAND

exactly what I thought but a nice dbrand skin on the back with a red circle around the fingerprint scanner and a red trim around the cams and it looks nice I will be going for the dark gray version(or whatever they call it) with a black carbon skin and red carbon trim so that it matches my audiotechnica m50x mkbhd skin and the interior of my car and even my desk that has red lights on the back the front looks almost exactly as my lg g3 only bigger forehead
Huge bezels, no app drawer, smaller battery, smaller screen but bigger phone, ugly mofo and again HUGE bezels!!!! Such a disappointment. Absolutely love my G3, it looks better than G5 and has bigger battery and bigger screen with tiny bezels and the phone is still smaller. After Samsung dropped SD card and removable battery I said id never go back to Samsung. But they have bought back SD card support and to be honest I've never once needed to replace the battery on any of my phones so I don't mind the non removable battery especially since s7 edge has a HUGE 3600 mAH. The S7 edge has a bigger screen but phone is smaller and this time it is properly waterproof ip68 with no flaps! and from early camera tests, it has the best camera. Really disappointed with LG so going back to Samsung this time round.
