Hello there,
as many of you may already know, the HTC Prophet shares a lot of its hardware with the HTC Wizard. We, the Linwizard Project, aim to port Linux to this OMAP-platform, as other users did port Linux for PXA-based devices like HTC Universal...etc.
I just want to invite you Prophet Users to checkout our project. Our procedure and yet available kernel should also run on your phone....

Greetings,
Maui
Hi, I want to install Linux on my new Qtek s200, but I don't know how to do that. What is the project's actual status? I hate WM5
Is there any updates to this as yet? I would really love to see this ported/Running to my HTC prophet
Running it now
Yes, there has been some progress... the basic PDA functions are available: X runs, touchscreen works making it possible to run GPE on it:
Here's a link to a recent build which works reasonably well. It contains the f*ugly GPE shell so it is not pretty to look at, but it does work.
http://tinderbox.dev.gentoo.org/embedded/linwizard/gizard-20081108.tar.bz2
To try this for yourself, download the image, unpack the tarball and copy the entire contents to a directory on your SD-card. Go into that directory and run haret-0.5.2.exe. Run the 'default.txt' configuration.
Once the kernel boots it will start a telnet daemon on 10.100.0.1:23. Configure your side of the rndis network to be 10.100.0.2 (ifconfig usb0 10.100.0.2 on Linux, whatever on Windows) and telnet 10.100.0.1. Login as root, there is no password. Once logged in run startx to get GPE up and running.
Once GPE runs you'll want to add the onscreen keyboard to the panel. To do this tap-and-hold on the taskbar (bottom of screen) and add the 'input selector'. This gives you an on-screen keyboard just like the WM-one. Add a terminal launcher as well to get access to an xterm.
If all this is gibberish to you you might want to learn some unix/linux before you try...
Thanks alot it works on my prophet it's very fast to but am unable to login as root is there a way I can login to linux without using typing root? if not can u help me with the telneting into it please what software do I have to use on my pc it's a Windows is there anysite with instructions? I like it alot but since the prophet dont got a keyboard on it's own am not able to login please help and Thanks in Advance
Booting and running Linux on the Prophet
Most of what you need to boot and run Linux is described on the linwizard project site:
http://linwizard.wiki.sourceforge.net/
The version offered on the site is out of date - it does not do much more than boot the kernel which you can control through SSH (on 10.100.0.1:22).
To do some more with Linux you'll want to get a newer release. The one mentioned in the previous posting is a good example of where the project is now: relatively complete PDA-support but no real GSM support - so you can not use it as a phone...
To see Linux in action you download the tarball, untar it on your SD-card (either in a card reader on your PC or by untarring it on the PC and transferring all files to a directory below /Storage Card/. Once that is done you are well advised to do a soft reset to clear some memory as haret - the program used to push Windows Mobile out of the way and replace it with Linux - likes memory. After the (optional but advisable) soft reset you take your $favourite_file_manager to the directory where you put the contents of the tarball, execute haret-0.5.2.exe and run the default configuration (just click Run). Linux should boot, albeit slowly (it takes a long time to read the initrd - initial ramdisk - from the SD card). If you get a white screen which stays white for a long time you might as well reboot and try again. If you get a screen with a penguin with a hat on you're in. Plug in the USB cable if you haven't done that yet. You'll be staring at a login: prompt with no obvious means to type anything anywhere... that is because this Linux distribution is made for the Wizard instead of the Prophet, and the Wizard *does* have a keyboard. For now you'll have to resort to telnet to login and get things going. The phone is now listening on the cdc_ethernet interface (over the USB connection) on IP 10.100.0.1 so you'll want to configure the PC-side of the connection to something within that network range - 10.100.0.2 seems a logical choice. Configure the PC-side of the connection with IP 10.100.0.2 (ifconfig usb0 10.100.0.2 up on Linux, many many mouseclicks in the network manager on Windows). Once you have the network configured you can login with *telnet* (NOT ssh as mentioned on the linwizard site, the gizard tarball only has an active telnet daemon!), username is root, there is no password.
Once logged in use 'startx' to get the GPE shell running. It will complain about not being able to find a keyboard. The 'X' cursor appears, follwed shortly by the butt-ugly GPE interface. Once in the shell you can add a keyboard to the taskbar (tap-and-hold, choose add->input manager). There's more stuff to add, like a terminal (always handy) etc. Wifi does not work yet, GSM does not work yet, you just got yourself an iPaq...
If you're looking for eye-candy this is not it - yet. But as it is Linux, and free, and open, it can become anything you want it to...r

Is interesting post #10 OpenMoko s100...not?
Hi guys,
I just reinstalled Vista and got everything to work. But the fingerprint reader and Touch screen dont work.
The drivers for both are installed but still nothing. I reinstalled every driver using DriverMAX. Does anyone have a clue to this ? Ive spent all day and tried everything on the forum but still nothing. Does anyone have a definate answer ?
Thanks in advance ......
Adil A.S / StashCompInc
Why did you use drivermax under vista?
I suggest you reload the recovery partition, backup the programme\htc folder and the program\vitakey folder, and setup from here. Or better: just do an update from the vista to the version you want. If you are on the upgrade path, you will get a fully working version as clean as new.
Not doing just a install, but a vlite install. This does not allow upgrades. It did drivermax because all drivers were not being installed through the htc folder this includes the touch screen. Doesnt anyone just have the inf files ? or a setup.exe ?
Hello all, I installed TT7 on HD2 and it works very well.
Now I would like to update maps from TomTom Home, but it can recognize HTC HD2...
Is there any tricks for that issue??
i haven't found one yet - also searching! But I can tell u, what the german tomtom-hotline said:
You are the first one with this problem. This phone is too new . He wants to check, if tomtom will start supporting the Leo and give me a reply. I'll keep u up 2 date - but everyone should give them a call, for that they see how many costumers they r loosing...
TomTom Home
I think you need another version of TomTom Home or you have to swap some of the files to get it to recognise your HD2.
I found this information somewhere on the internet, and tried it with my HD and a friend's HD2, which worked... I'll post that information here when I find it...
I'd appreciate that info please.
The cab file I have from my Diamond won't install on the HD2 and TomTom Home doesn't recognise my HD2 at all.

Same here - i have also ran into the same problem. Need Help too...please
Try the instructions from this link:

Hope it works out for you all.
P/S: Lei Chat, try the TomTom installation file from there. It should work, I installed it on my HD, will install it again on my HD2 when it arrives.
Sadly, after changing the tthome.jar tomtomHome doesn't start correctly. I get the following errors:

I'm using Win 7 Prof. in german. From the first error I expectet the path to be wrong. The folder in which programs are stored has a german name. So I wanted to create the folder "Program files". This wasn't possible. It already exists. So the german folder seems be named in the english version, but just shows an a german to the users...
Thanks for the response.
That cab file does indeed install but it fails at the download free map stage.
I get the same errors a k82 when replacing the tthome.jar file.
That guide mentions needing to manually install the maps, so it's not really fixing the TomTom Home connection issues.
I know the backup location of my map files as it's possible to access that in TomTom Home, but I've tried copying them onto my memory card on my device but the software doesn't acknowledge they're there, running the activation .cab in the map folder didn't work either.
Will probably just have to wait for TomTom to updated Home and add the HD2 to the supported devices list.
Reply to kollege82
Mmm... I'm sorry, but I don't know why it's not working for you. It could be a language issue, as it is working on my English Windows 7 Home Premium PC. I was using an older version of TT Home when I followed the file swapping instruction, so it may be a TT Home Version Issue.

Even though the guide explains the process of downloading the initial maps for your device, it does show a solution to getting the HD2 to talk to TomTom Home. I'll try this on another PC, and report back here.
P/S: I have just tried this solution on a newer version of TomTom Home, and it doesn't seem to work anymore... I guess we will need to wait for TomTom then... Sorry for getting your hopes up high...
The mentioned fix of Noiz was actually a fix made bij pmuschi and was not a fix for connection issues indeed.
I tried to make my own fix for the latest TomTom Home using his method:
Modify the file "\content\logic\model\ttNavItem.js" (in the jar) so that the functions canInstallOn() and canUseOnThisDevice() both return zero

This will not give the error mentioned by kollege82 in #8, but it still doesn't fix the connection issue
Hi @ all,
I get a connection to TomTom Home - but only with an older Version:
I have TomTom Home Version 1.5 on my PC, and the HD2 will be recognized.
I also have the newest (?) TomTom Home version 2.7, but this version does not recognize my HD2.
I had this problem already a long time ago with another device, that's why I never deleted the old Version 1.5.
Perhaps the new TomTom Home version only works if the storage card is connected directly to the computer?

That's strange... It seemed to work fine for me, allowed my device to connect and sync with TT Home. In my opinion, I think it's because of the newer TomTom Home Versions that may be causing this problem, like what 'Jolig' has said.

Could you please upload version 1.5??
Also, did you try to download mapshare with v1.5 + HD2 ??

Yes, I would greatly appreciate that too!!!!
Hi,
I have uploaded Version 1.5 here:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/pn9flo
But remember, we still have the disatvantage that this "old" Version 1.5 recognizes the Leo, but we will not have as many functions as in the new TT Home versions - this also includes NO Map Share, as far as I know....!
Perhaps someone has a bit time to check if it is possible to connect the Micro-SD directly to the computer - will the newest TT Home Version recognize the Micro SD card as a "TomTom device"?
Furthermore; I don't understand why TomTom sells Navigator 7 and it is not recognized by the latest TT Home Version - I can't figure that this only depends on the HTC Leo?? Has perhaps someone contacted TomTom concerning this issue? Of course I also would like to use the latest TT Home version in order to have Map Share and so on...
I contacted TomTom support and they stated that they were working on a new release of TomTom that supported HD2 and that it hopefully would be released before the end of the year. And they couldn't tell if it was a free upgrade or something you needed to pay extra for.
The also said that it was a mistake that their website listed Touch Diamond 2 og Touch Pro 2 as compatible and that they are working on correcting the list and that was a week ago!!!!!
Just to add my experience with TomTom support.
The lady I spoke to seemed to think the HD and Pro 2 were both supported as per their website.
http://www.tomtom.com/products/section.php?ID=898&Section=709&Lid=1&Category=2
No timescale was offered for when an official update to "Navigator 7" or "TomTom Home 2" featuring HD2/Leo compatibility would be available.
I'm not really sure how much use getting Home 1.5 linked to an HD2 would be if you've purchased your maps since the launch of Home 2.
I managed to install the suggested black cab file but adding my map file to the device manually just caused TomTom to prompt for authorisation. Although www.ttcode.com still exists I don't have a product ID for my maps in my tomtom.com account so can't get past step one.
When I rang I was hoping the lady might be able to give me that, but as I've just mentioned, since Home 2, it (apparently) doesn't work that way anymore.
No worries, thanks for trying and letting us know.
I too cant get connected with tomtom home but had the same problem with my xperia x1 when it first came out it took a couple of updates of tomtom home before it recognised the x1.
I downloaded the android build [BUILD]UPD(27.11.2010)MCCM SE V3.4(FroyoStone Sense)[kernel hastarin r8.5] I just wanted to know how to get this thing to dualboot up? Any help would be appreciated?
search for JMZ dual boot. install it to the phone in windows, its a cab file. reset the HD2 and it should boot to an option screen saying Android on top and windows on bottom.
Cheers...
OK, I downloaded that file to my computer, but I need help with getting it on my phone from windows mode??? Can someone help me with that plz?
Ok got the files on my phones HD still wont dual boot? Do I need to put the files in a certain folder?
Just download one of the roms from the android developement thread, copy the android to the root of the sd card.
Then use jmz dual boot, should work
You have copied the JMZ cab file to your phone , but have you installe it? just use file explorer to file cab file and click on it to install. then reboot.
Ok so I got the boot loader installed, I get the dual boot screen but cant do anything with it and it ends up loading windows. I am a noob ath this, can someone help me with the issue?
ok I got it but now when the screen comes up with android and windows the time out runs backwords -1, -2, -3 and so on...... What is up?
im having trouble loading XAP files to my HD2, i have the tom's installer and they load onto the phone that appears on the computer but when you go and click on each item to install they all have a different reason for not loading some talk about dll files and the camera give a longer error message. i would like to get this all fixed before i try and load the android onto the phone thanks for your help. i used the Tech1 Easy DWI Installer to get wp7 on my phone.
I dont know what camera is in the WP7 file that i loaded but it seams to work fine there is a list of XAP on the HTC HD2 site that i have tried with no luck.
Thanks for any help
anyone able to help
I can't install .xap too, but for me the Tom Xap installer gives mee an error saying to check the Phone is unlocked & Zune is launched.
& i checked on the phone, app isn't here.
When i installed the Rom the 1st time, Zune made 2updates itself, maybe it's the cause. (But i updated with DEV_UNLOCK.cab)
So i wonder if i've to reflash? due to encrypting of the SD card, there wont be any issue?
you must do hard reset after upgrade to Mango RTM.... go to Settings, About, Reset
I was getting the check phone to make sure it was unlocked error also i think what took care of that problem was in the tom's i checked the emulator instead of device.
[solved] XAP can't sideload
It missed the hardreset after the first installation as well. But it's essencial and everything works afterwards perfectly!!! Nice
Hi
I have done the reset after installation, but still cant load xap files.
Tried with Toms but it gives back an error "phone not connected ....."
When I look in the meny on the phoneAdvanced config is there but when I try to execute
I closes after 5sec.
Anyone Please.
Sorry for my bad English
