i installed Miri WM 6.5 21859 :: MANILA 2.5 :: REV 9. 9/23/09 ever since i installed this rom i get Powering Off Warnning box poping up ever 10 seconds.. so i tried installing a different rom same problem.. so now i re-flash the Stock rom and same problem. have anyone ever had this issue before? the phone also doesnt go into Stand by when i hit the power button the screen will turn off then come right back on with the Powering off Box popping up.
can anyone help please
It sounds to me like your button is stuck down. Try and get it back to stock ROM and SPL if possible and send it off as a warranty repair.

Haven't seen or heard this problem before, so I'm intrigued though it sounds like Budadank is on the correct path. Check your power on/off button
I have the same problem, the power button always stuck down, and if I turn my phone off it turns right back on again, and my battery drain is massive. All caused by someone else's water damage I think :-(
There's another thread where someone gives a walkthrough about how to stick a card under the power button to release it, but sadly it does'nt work for me.
PS Does anyone know how much HTC charge to repair HDs?

Don't you have warranty or insurance?
hmm guess i will open up my case and check out the power button. becacuse when i take the battery and out soon as i put it back in the phone powers on without me pressing the Power Button..... so my guess its the power Button
I'm sure I have the warrenty still (only four months old) - but it's water damage which I don't think is covered.
I had Orange insurance, but got out of my contract with the T+Cs stuff in August, so it was cancelled then
have you tried Miri's REV_90_FixPower.cab ??
Hey,
I had my HD 2 for 2 days now.
It just crash on me for the first time soft rest the unit now it well not boot up anymore stuck in the HTC with white background screen and the rom version at the left bottom side.
Tried removing battery nothing still stuck.
I tried to hard rest the pda but cannot get it to hard rest.
Can someone explain how to hard rest what do you have to do hold the volume key up or down and switch the unit on tried it but nothing.
Please any help.
Thanks

Have a look here (point 15) on howto do the reset(s)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638
Good luck..
Same as Gigino, my HD2 is only giving me white HTC screen. I haven't even had it long enough to connect it to my pc. No messing around. It locked up about 5 times in the 5 days I have had it. Each lock up was only resolved with the battery removal. Curiously no lockups until I set an alarm.
The difference between my issue and Gigino is that I do not have the rom version showing up at reboot, just the white screen. Hardware issue, or software?
Followed the Hard Reset procedure as outlined by HTC and your link above. The reset commands are recognized, but after reload, back to white HTC screen.
Bricked?
If you cant get functionality back by taking the battery out or by soft or hard resetting then theres not much more you can do. You could try taking the battery out and giving it a full charge with the mains charger provided but I dont think that will do much good.
As long as you havent flashed a new rom with the goldcard then call your service provider. If you got a sim free phone then call the place where you bought it as its covered by warantee. You should be able to get it replaced if theres a fault.
the same thing happened to me after 2 weeks with phone, I'd had no problems with the phone then one morning while using opera it froze. I had to remove the battery to try and reboot the phone but it wouldn't boot past the htc screen. eventually after removing the battery several times the phone wouldn't even turn on, also the phone got very hot with the battery in. I called htc and told them and they picked up it for repair. it looks like they couldn't fix it cos they sent me a replacement phone. they returned the phone to me within a week.
HTC White Screen of Death
Thanks, guess I feel a bit better knowing it wasn't anything I did..and that I am not alone in this world of WSOD
I have contacted the seller and haven't heard back yet. I don't imagine it will be a problem. Perhaps above and beyond the alarm clock/freezing thread a WSOD thread is in order until it is determined if they are related.
Thanks all.
GR8
Update;
I pulled battery and replaced so device is off. Charged over night and the orange power charging light didn't go off or go green by morning. device was hot.
Get this though, when I pull the phone off the charger the orange light doesn't go out!. Now the phone won't turn on either. Had to pull battery again to make orange light go out and when it powered back up, back to HTC whit screen.

I don't know what is the cause.
But it is really pissing me off.
The only solution out is to do a "hard" reset by holding volume up and down TOGETHER while doing that .... press the power on button for about 1 second ... then ONLY let go the "power on" button which still hold volume up and down.
You should see the screen to restore to factory default .... and proceed to do so.
I have encounter quite a number of times but after trying various "solution" ... it still happens.
By the way, I am using cooked ROM (which I don't think is the problem).

I encounter similar situation .... was installing the new taskbar .... then it took very long ..... so while the installation in progress thingy is still in the middle .... I did a soft reset ... then it start up till the white screen and stock there and showing the ROM version etc at the bottom left.
So have to do a Restore to Factory Default to get it up and running again.
Seems there is something really wrong with this model.
I have it for two months now and lots of issues.
Now it is with HTC for repair as I also have the white screen with green HTC issue.
Nothing helped Hard Reset nor flashing rom.
I can't wait to get it back ;-)
Tons of issues with this phone, but my love for it is just a bit bigger than the hate.
hello all gettin frustrated here too bout a week ago my brick started and stopped on std rom reflashed duttys 1.3 and new radio.was fine for a few days then it seemed to crash and hard reset by itself.now i have a crash every day which inccurs a hard reset very annoying........gets stuck at boot screen as does every ones.now if you if your like me and have HSPL,cooked rom and upgraded radio.....sorry htc....and are sending it back for repair, you should still be able to activate bootloader mode and reflash std rom/radio.if its like mine after flashin it might behave as normal again untill next crash.so.........
1. Turn your phone off
2. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN then Press and hold the POWER button. After about 3 seconds the tri-coloured screen should appear
3.connect it to your pc it should install drivers.the screen should now say "USB"
4.reflash with std rom/radio (should be located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577717 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787 and bingo HTC are none the wiser and it may restart again if it does dont trust it!!!!!!!!
i think i read somwhere that a shipped rom will remove HSPL but you might want to clarify that with a senior member here.

If you flash a shipped rom via activesync as you described then the HardSPL will be left intact and HTC will be the wiser and will invalidate your warranty.
The only way to remove the HardSPL is to flash a shipped rom via microSD Card which will flash the shipped rom, radio and spl back and will leave you with a stock device.
White screen with HTC logo is a hardware defect
I also have the issue with not booting HD2 after less than a month of use . It shows white screen and green HTC logo but without the red digits in the bottom part of the screen. And one more strange behavior to mention - when phone is switched off and I connect it to the charger it starts itself after 30sec approximately.
What is inside:
Original SPL with an original ROM but for different region than the one which originally was inside. I flashed it by SSPL (without using HSPL).Only ROM was flashed without radio as radio was the same.
What checks were done:
1)Soft reset
2)Removing of battery
3)Hard reset several times
4)Flashing back with the original ROM through ActiveSinc and cable from computer. As the original SPL is intact this should return it to the factory condition. After flashing I did 2 hard resets. But no change - still showing white screen on boot up.
Finally I gave it to the repair workshop. They confirmed that this is a hardware problem and sent it for repair in authorized HTC service.
Suggest that this is a problem with a bad soldered chip (integrated circuit) during manufacturing of the PCB. In this case the power controller chip is suspected. The contact pad of the chip and solder are touching each other and phone works. With the time passing the contact surface oxidate and contact is lost. So initially the phone will work but reset itself occasionally while the contact is instable and will stop fully to operate when the contact is completely lost. Only replacement of defective PCB can rectify this problem. Trials to re-solder the chip are usually not successful. This is purely manufacturing defect. However sometimes it may happen if you drop down your phone.
i had same problem, it was stuck on first white screen with some version numbers in red in bottom left.
I did a hard reset and it got fixed.
i had not installed anything or flashed anything. it just got stuch at that screen 1 fine day for no reason

I have the same problem my htc hd2 freezes at the white screen.
I have tried to do a hard reset but i have not the time to put the usb cable in at the red green white screen.
Is it possible to resolve this problem or must I send my phone to HTC.
Thanks.

WSOD FIX
To all the people having WSOD issues, check your microSD cards. I had this issue while ago with the white HTC screen and NO RED TEXT and I norrowed the problem down to my microSD card. When taking it out of the HD2, it would boot up fine. So I plugged my card into a USB adapter on my PC, formatted it and then put it back into the HTC. Everything worked fine.
EDIT: My HD2 is a T8585 and is unbranded bought from UK. I have always been using the stock 1.66 WWE ROM
I have exactly the same prob as camo.b, and right now I`m formatting my SD card, hoping that I'll be able to at least restore the SPL so that the warranty will still be available. I'm bringing it in tomorrow, if everything turns out to be fine with my SPL...

My HD2 will not let me flash anything, even though I can get into the bootloader screen. Right now it's semi-bricked, and I have tried flashing a stock ROM via both usb and sd card, I have tried using task29, I have even tried uninstalling HSPL, but nothing works. Everything fails, either at the beginning, at the middle or at the end of the operation.
I flashed it with a shipped rom and he works,
I was unable to do a hard reset with any card still in the device. be sure both sim and sd card are removed, then reinstall battery and follow vol up/down etc. procedures. good luck.
I have just got the HD2 and been using it for a few weeks. Downloaded a few apps (eg HTC rom, BSB tweeks) and all is good. Saw Max Manila and looked like a great idea - checked my manila version 2.5.19211619.0 and downloaded 2.7 SE (checked it's right for my manila) loaded onto phone and it crashed after soft reset. Took battery out and phone doesn't go past first screen (with the red writing bottom left) - Hard reset is the same and now I'm worried!
Any ideas???
sad to say yy sounds like hard reset time.
power off, hold volume up and volume down, tap power keeping volume up and down pressed til the screen comes on and follow the prompts.
it will reset your phone to factory defaults.
never used max manila so I cant help with what the problem might be, but if there is a developers thread for it you might be better asking there.
Thanks for replying samsamuel - I've tried the hard reset and it doesn't work!
Even when I do as you say, I get the white start screen with htc written on it and then several red lines at the bottom right starting R G and D and that's it! It just stay's like that - At this moment I'd pray for a hard reset!!
I'm going to try booting from the sd card but I'm not sure I can get the phone to go into the bootable mode. I've downloaded the HTC rom and extracted the nmh so we'll see.
if your phone is provider locked then that will not work.you need the rom that came on your phone. so if was from uk o2 then you need the o2 uk rom, otherwise it wont work.
No luck! Whilst I've got everything to sort the phone out it won't do anything but load the white first screen no matter which buttons I hold down.
Man this sucks!
Guess there's nothing for it except the bin unless anyone else has any other ideas??
can you get into boot loader?
press and hold vol down(not up this time, just down) tap and release power, keep vol down held. should boot to striped cultures colored screen.
if you can what does it say next to SPL?
Hi Samsamual
Thanks for helping but no, won't go into bootloader either - doesn't respond to any input (even when I conect the usb the charge led doesn't come on!) and just starts with the white screen with the HTC logo and then the red writting appears and it just hangs - left it for 5 mins just to be sure and no change
Looks like I've really messed it up although I have no idea what I did wrong - instal went just like the other things I installed.
Ahh shame. All i can suggest is the original rom sd card method. But it MUST be the propper rom that came on your phone, so if you got it from vodaphone, , , even if it is unlocked, you must use the voda rom.
Also, have a really good read through the pages in teh rom development section. If you can find someone with the exact same issue, you could be one step closer to fixing it.

When you tried the SD card method did you use a 2GB SD card and was it formatted to FAT32?
WB
Have you tried a boot (all combinations!) without the sd card installed?
Hoss and WB - thanks for the comments
Hoss, I've held the volume buttons for over a minute after powering on - no change
WB, I can't get the phone to go into boot loader screen but thanks for the info for the future. Next time I'll see if I can copy the original rom just in case.
Resigned myself to having a new paper weight on my desk and looking for a new phone - Guess I won't be putting so many programs on my new one....
PA - Thanks for the advice - Yes tried with sd card in/out sim in/out bootloader, hard reset, soft reset and always the same.
In your posts you do not mention where you bought your HD2, and I do not know what country you are in.
From what I have read, it seems that you did not flash any ROMs, nor change your SPL, so if I were you, at this point, rather than accepting a bricked paperweight, why not explore your warranty possibilities?
Contact the place you bought the HD2 (the dealer) and explore your options. Since I do not know which country you are in I will not suggest an HTC service center, but if your country has such a center, at last resort, you might check out that possibility.
Since you apparently had no hardware problems before the manila incident, it would seem that it is a software glitch somehwere.
Good luck with all of this. It must be almost heartbreaking to have this happen with such beautiful hardware.

What's most annoying is it wasn't as if I was doing anything crazy! Max manila is used by many people (from what I've seen in the threads) and I guess I downloaded the wrong one (although naturally I checked and it's the right one). Certainly will curb my using of 3rd party software! As for the warranty, you're right, I can try and see if it can be fixed (bizarrely, that hadn't occured to me - I thought that with no resets working HTC couldn't do anything). Thanks for the tip and I'll let you know how I get on.
Surely your warranty will cover this. Yes, let me (and us) know how all of this goes. You will get your phone back to what you deserve, for sure!
I had the same issue.
Sent mine to HTC and got it back with the comment "Cannot reproduce"
Probably it solved itself when the battery was removed for a couple of days in the mail.
It has now been working for two weeks again.
Fingers crossed.

Experential nut I may be, but just wondering if you had the problem after you installed the MAx manila? I wonder now what versions of OS may be causing this problem.
i had something like this with my HTC Diamond... It stopped responding completely when turned on, didn't respond to the usb cable being plugged in (the round ring used to illuminate when charging)
I took the battery out, for about 30 minutes... then left it charging for another 30 minutes - booted up straight away and never did anything like that again
Worth a shot just leaving it without power for awhile, and then just recharging it
Like watnuweer mentioned, "cannot reproduce" probably fixed itself by not having the battery left in for awhile

This is getting more interesting, what do you suppose is the cure of taking out the battery, and then charging? I do not doubt your experience, I am just extremely curious if anyone can explain this phenomena.

Hi all, i just got a Qtek 9090 with WM2003 (ITA). I upgraded to WM6.1, but now it has some strange problems: first of all, when it goes in standby, sometimes it doesn't wake up. If i have to reset it, most of times it doesn't boot (it shut down before WM loads) or i get R: None G: None and i have to reset again (otherwise the phone won't work).
The lock at the boot doesn't happen when the phone is connected at the USB port (i think that's because it charges, maybe it's a battery problem?)
Another thing is that i can't turn it off: if i hold pressed the power button, it deactivate the backlught but the device stays on, and if i make another long press, i get the backlight back again... I had this problem also with WM2003, maybe it's normal?
What do you think? Whan can i do?

Have you make a HardReset?
The correct HardReset, not only reset and press Power button!!!
See in my HowTo Section...
and why not WM6.5.5 see here
yep, hard reset is a good start, but about your other problems:
the device does not really turn off, like other phones. pressing the power button makes it go to hibernate, the display turns off, depending on your settings, it locks the hardware buttons and it shuts off wi-fi, it hardly uses any energy but gsm/gprs stay on.
the device seems to be off, yet the phone is one and you can be called. that is the closest you get to switching it off. when you turn on airplane mode, the battery consumption is even less so there is not really a need to turn it off.
pressing and holding the power button always was for the backlight. many other devices open up a shutdown menu when you do that, that would allow you to turn it off, soft reset, or switch off the backlight, but for the BA, that is not the standard. however, if i read it right, d-two is working on remapping the power button, probably for that cause.
the R: none G: none issue is known and not a problem with your phone, whenever you run out of power or remove the battery for a second, the next boot will be w/o radio (R and most roms don't allow booting without it. that's why you get stuck there and have to perform a soft reset. back in the days of wm2003 i used to remove the battery when the device froze to reset it w/o the stylus, because it didn't matter then. with cooked roms, it is different, just like the booting splash screen or the way to perform a hard reset, many things change on a cooked rom.
the issue with waking up from standby, or the SOD (standby of death) is an issue, that most likely has something to do with a backup, restored after flashing another os, or maybe you didn't perform a hard reset, as stated by d-two. you should do that, now that the device is still new, you have nothing to lose
also, read through the tutorials posted by d-two and myself, whether you missed anything while flashing.
The "real" hard reset is the one i can get by pressing camera + record button and reset? If so, i already did it after flash (i use d-two 6.1 Manila ROM in WWE)
It shows me 3 options, i put on YES "Clean Registry Hive" and "Format Storage" then i press the mail button, the screen become white for a while and the next boot al seems to be ok.
It seems, because after some time i get again the "standby of death" and, if i press the reset button, the most of time it won't boot up again (it turns off before i can get to WM), if it works phone doesn't. All these boot problem can be avoided by connecting the phone to the usb cradle, so maybe it's also a battery problem, i think...
@ d-two: i'll try your new ROM, however before i've tried your 6.1 ROM
I've already read your guide because i've got Windows 7 and i couldn't flash without your tutorial
NEWS: installed d-two new ROM, after flash i made the hard reset selecting the second and the third options, then i get the blank screen and, when viewing the htc screen, it shut down itself like it did before
As always, with the usb connected, it has no problem :\
It can be battery power - battery is old, and it doesn't provide current [A], or voltage drops [V] and phone think, it's empty.
Maybe you can try with new battery, or buy 2 nokia bl-4c batteries and repair orginal battery (somewhere on forum there is a tutorial about that - but use bl4c, not bl5c like in tutorial - bl5c are too thick to fit)

That's what i was thinking (and that's i hope it isn't)... Now with another recharge cycle it seems to be good also with cooked ROMs, i hope it's solved
Maybe you just have to charge/discharge it for 4-5 times, and it will restore it's capacity. Mine BA was turning off when battery indicator was showing ~60-70%, and now I'm waiting for new battery (i destroyed original )
"charge/discharge it for 4-5 times" does not have an effect on Li-ion kind of batteries. This is probably a software problem. When you turn your phone on (after removing a battery) it always shows "None" for R and G, so just press Reset button and it will be ok. I use Reset to power it on Then you can flash 6.5.5 which doesn't have problems, and do a hard reset. There should be no problem at all..
I also got the problem with the stock ROM :\
The R: None G: None error is the less important problem
Got any luck fixing it? I've had similar problems before, sometimes it turned itself off when the battery was at 60% in WM2003. Did you update to d-two's 6.5.5?
Yes, now i'm running d-two's 6.5.5 ROM.
No, i still had the problem Yesterday i called to the assistance service and they said me to remove the battery and after a while recharge it.
I put off the battery yesterday at 16 and i put it again in the phone this morning at 8, i charged it but i still have the problem
This evening i called again and they said me that i have to send it back, i'll flash the original ROM and send it on monday.
That's a shame, i really like this device, even if it's not mine, my sister uses it and she's not a pro user, what a waste
Didn't understand, what "assistance service"? This is very old phone, I just can't believe it has some kind of warranty
I have another battery, and using it the device turns it off sometimes while it's in the stand-by mode! Don't know why, the voltage on it is fine, I have measured it while working...

I bought it on an eBay market and it offered 60 days warranty. It's not official HTC/Qtek warranty, but it doesn't make difference, as long as the device will work
If for you it happens only when it's in standby, maybe you just have the standby of death, the problem Chef Tony was talking about at post 3?

Hey people, I usually upgrade roms on my blackstone, been 2 years now, all fine, until yesterday after a task 29.{Ypsmav rom} My phone didn't want to start, eternal freeze on start up with the htc logo ..
Can you kindly help me please.Tried several HR, to no avail..
This happend to me, this is what i did to fix it:
Take the batery of the phone
Wait a few minutes and put the batery back on
With the USB Cable unplugged press the Volume Down button and then the Power Button
Plug the USB into the phone (Don't do anything else to the phone)
Run the ROM you downloaded
Select Task 28 and upgrade.
It worked with my Touch HD
task 29 completely formats your phone, including the rom partition, so of course it cannot boot into windows mobile, there is currently no windows mobile on it!
as already pointed out, you need to flash a rom again.
Hm, Got it resolved . Thxs anyway
Hey guys!
I hope it´s ok to use this thread for my question...
I have a big problem with my old Blackstone... I didn´t use it for a long time (because I got a HTC Desire and a Galaxy Tab). Now i started the phone, but it won´t boot. It stucks at the boot screen (HTC Smart Mobility)...
So far so good... So I thought, I´ll do a Hard Reset... Then I saw that the VOL-Buttons are broken... So, HardReset with VOL-Button won´t work.
Is it possible to flash the phone via USB (ActiveSync doesn´t work...)?
Or is the phone broken?
Thanks in advance for help!
Cya
without the use of the volume buttons, it is next to impossible to get the device working again, since your device does not boot into winmo nor can you access the bootloader mode to flash it. your only chance would be to get the volume keys working again, have you tried using them without the back cover and pressing them really deep?
Hey.
Yeah, I've tried to get the Buttons work again, but keys are definitly broken. Something seems to miss on the buttons, so I think the are broken...
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
since you do have another phone, you might want to consider giving away/ selling your blackstone.
lately, i think there are more and more threads with people that have problems with their displays and/or digitizers and they might be willing to buy it for parts or you could donate it to the developers of xdandroid, so they finally have a device to test it on.
or you could search and download the htc blackstone service manual pdf and disassemble the device yourself to fix the buttons.
