Guys
HTC claims that new Touch Pro 2 supports WMV, ASF, MP4, 3GP, 3G2, M4V, AVI
http://www.htc.com/europe/product/touchpro2/specification.html
Seems like there is a chance for SEX1 owners to get the full accelerated WM soft and see movies directly from lovely x1 without ugly converting at last
Nice
Nice, it's like the big ugly brother of the Xperia.
I was about to buy a Touch HD the day I got my Xperia, until they got it out the box and i saw how big it was, told him to put it right back and bring the Xperia.
I'v got an iphone for if i feel the need to carry a weapon, but my phone I like to be comfortable.
AVI support would rule, just about every video I "own" is an AVI.
up till then coreplayer does the trick!
(good enough that is..)
Not that simple
AVI is a container, xvid, divx, and others are codecs within that container (e.g. you can put MP4 encoded video inside an AVI file). Just because something supports the AVI container, doesn't mean it supports 90% of the AVI files out there. Unfortunately, that's usually the case too.
If you don't see divx and xvid specifically, odds are they don't don't support them, only the vanilla avi trash from 10 years ago that no1 uses.
Anyway, there is none of HTC devices, who contains "AVI supported" string in specification list, only Touch Pro 2 and Touch diamond 2.

Agreed - I don't see the big hoopla about the ****ty .avi container... almost any ripper supports or online released video offers some sort of mp4 (e.g. main profile L4 and up supports resolutions higher than X1's @ bitrates of 20Mb and up already).
AVI is a crap, it's time for AVI to DIE.
I think we can use Smart Movie or DIVX 0.91 to see any avi format, right?
I think, we have many tools (CorePlayer etc.) to play AVI, but we have nothing to play AVI with Qualcomm 7200's full hardware acceleration. It's only Windows Media Player and TouchFloAlbum who supports this kind of acceleration but they aren't support AVI. So, I hope TPro2 player will support both of them, so, hope there will be a chance to take the player from there to the X1, SEX1 and TPro2 proceccors are equal. I don't know if AVI ****ty or not, but most of my video content is AVI and all I want is to watch it without any problem

on my touch pro ive had no need for watchin super high res videos but with the hd2's screen i figure why not.
do free players support mkv files and do they actually play without stuttering?
I dunno about 720p files without studder but it might do it, depends on how well it was encoded.
On my Fuze I have played some MkV files on Coreplayer as well as FLAC and OGG without issues.
Easy answer - no.
If you want best quality, recode them to 800x480 MP4.
But if you're into series, the standard xvid versions already play beautifully.
double post, sorry...
I used Handbrake for encoding files into MKV and MP4 to play them in TCPMP. The best results i had with MKV, more sharp, more brighness and they´re running without breaks.
so for 800x480 what other video settings did you pick for mkv to have it play perfect? i got a bit of stutttering on the file i tried today
Sounds Interesting.
just use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467112
Xvid is easier on the processor than H264 so you will get better results with it, just up the bitrate to 2Mbps+ and it'll look better than the the 750kbps H264, and it'll play faster as well.
CPU
did you know that even G4 Cpus cant handle 720p Perfectly!
also, there is absolutely no reason to watch a 1280×720 resolution file on a screen that is only 800x480.
it will give you no advantages visually.
no, but time advantages if it wasn't necessary to reencode the video ..
This phone should be able to handle 720P, I mean my old i8910 (600Mhz CPU, 256MB RAM, native DivX/Xvid support) could play most 720P I threw at it, so certainly the hardware isn't the main issue here...
m720p mkv's converted to mp4 using winmenc (and the audio sync fix to counteract the hd2's sync problem) and playing on windows media player looks great
hmm, do you have soo many 720p sources? i play normal tv shows and movies as divx or xvid DVD quality, and that plays perfectly....

No choice, some of us have moved to HD media for quite sometime already.

hehe...for sure you can't play 720p mkvs on the i8910.
Finally, a .avi .mkv player with nice fps. I recommend:
ROCKPLAYER The best xvid divx player on android is now on public beta, expires 15.july. Test it, buy it when its on market, support the developers.

I think after Samsung release the Galaxy S we'll get a good media player ported as that can natively play divx xvid and even h264, so it shouldn't be too long, maybe two months or so?

There was a story going round that HTC was going to update the Desire with support for XviD/DivX.
As to H264 - given that H264 is the native video format for Android, we've already got it!

Dave
I think HTC are saving the goods for the FroYo rollout
Roll on another few weeks!
Maybe someone will port over the Archos 5 IMT media player. It works nicely on Android.
Highly irritating. Google Format Factory in the mean time. Converts divx to mp4.
is there a way someone dump the galaxy s codecs or any codec from android devices that play divx files ???? we have such a powerfull device and we cannot see a movie without converting it...
I honestly don't give a crap about xvid/divx, that's a 20th century format . I want 720p mkv playback/recording
Search for Rockplayer on Google, it plays divx flawlessly.
Mod. edit: This is a beta, the developer didn't consent it's distribution. Publishing it would be posting warez, so better don't.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6805512#post6805512http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6805512#post6805512

yeah your probably right, haha (deleted)
EDIT: just tested it, plays .avi spot on - no more converting
Yep. But now I need a biiger SD card. lol
I'm only using it to play TV shows on the go so if I download something the night before I'll just bung it on my Desire and watch at Lunch when at work
It plays mkv h264 @ 720p too but at 5fps so looks like they need to enable some more Snapdragon acceleration for h.264
I'll stick with converting to x264 in an MP4 container. Just tried this with a normal divx episode, playing it causes 100% cpu constantly.
Takes me maybe 8 minutes to convert it and the MP4 uses around 35-40% cpu power.
Re: Xvid, divx for android
Therock player works almost perfectly why is it leaked and from where it don't seem like a big secret anyway
Sent from my HTC Desire
Searched for 'rockplayerbase' on google, installed and now watching an Xvid full screen @ 24fps
I've been waiting for this day since forever. Nowwww why doesn't the bloody thing have a tv-out option.
Now only to make a SRT subtitles and fully "portable cinema"...
Mod. edit: Warez link removed. This is a beta, the developer didn't consent it's distribution. Consider this 1st warning!http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6805512#post6805512http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6805512#post6805512
Re: Xvid, divx for android
I downloaded an apk for rock divx player, but when installed its called Demo player. Is there a different apk which is a full version, or is this it?

Coreplayer will play pretty much any format, AVI, WMA, MP4 etc etc. But it depends on the codecs you use to compress the film with whether or not it will play. I think it's AC3 audio codecs it doesn't like. But Coreplayer won't play subtitles, I read it's something to do with the subtitles being too processor intensive to be feasible, whether or not that applys to the HD2 I don't know.
However, I believe that TCPMP supports codecs if you re-encode them from .srt to .smi.

Thx man...i will try something in the afternoon...again thx!
tcpmp definitely supports subtitles (on the paper) even if I've never had the opportubnity to use them, and on top of it it's free, while coreplayer is not (faster in playback tho, not a huge difference for the eye with the snapdragon anyway)
Anyway be sure to download this eye catching version instead of the usual one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=634951
I have some 720p MKV videos with H264 video AAC audio that I wanted to load onto my Xoom, so far I haven't been able to get it playing smoothly at 720p with mp4 H264 and AAC audio but Mpeg4 seems a little blocky.
Does anyone have any suggestions on FormatFactory (or some other mass conversion tools) settings I can use that gives me the best video quality at a good frame rate?
from how i understand it the Tegra 2 has issues playing high profile H.264, i had a notion ink adam for a week and it was the same thing on this as well.
when i get my wifi xoom ill test it but i expect the same results.
I loved my zoom but I think that's one of the most unacceptable situation for zoom. good amount of people bought zoom is for video play back. at the least, if you should be able to play anything you throw at it. I hate apple but that's one I cannot trash the ipad

I cant even move .avi to the xoom... if anyone knows how please let me know.

In Windows 7 it tells me with a lot of file extensions that they are not compatible but I ignore the message and copy them anyways. Then they play nicely on the Xoom. I've used .m4v, .mp4, .mkv, .avi.... just ignore the error message and copy the files. Then use Rock Player Lite to play.
i don't know about the format factory, i download a free version of a xoom video tool, it recommend the h.264 mp4, size: 1280*752, frame rate:30fps, bitrate:1500
The above parameters are just for your reference, sometimes, video playback quality also is based on your xoom player.
whats the name of the tool?
what is the name of the tool / free xoom conversion software you used?

In the first place, i help u find the formats that xoom support.
Audio Playback Supports: MP3, AAC, ACC+Enhanced, OGG, MIDI, AMR NB, AAC
Video Playback Supports: MPEG-4, H.264,H.263
u need to convert your mkv to mp4. i use Fox Real Xoom video converter and set the parameter is mp4, h.264, 1280*752, 1500kbps, 30fps, and i can get full screen on the xoom.
so i suggest u also set on Formatfactory according to the parameters. hopefully it can help u!

i used a free version of a tool which named xoom video converter, but there is a logo "foxreal" in the centre of the screen. at last, i took about $23 to buy a official version, now everything is ok.
Can someone check and post what formats the A500 can actually playback? Things like DiVX, XViD, OGM & MKV containers, etc etc...
Cheers!

i have to convert everything into mp4...
Plenty apps can play divx/xvid witout problems atleast. The higher profile HD videos are the issue so far.
I'm talking without conversion or third party apps. Their recent model phones, such as the Metal and the Stream can play DiVX/XViD's & MKV's natively, so I was wondering of the same was true of the Tab.

No it isn't.

Best I can tell from testing so far, without adding things like Moboplayer, the Iconia only plays .3gp and .mp4 files, using h.263 or h.264 (Baseline Profile only) codec, MPEG-4 (Simple Profile) in .3gp files, and (of course?) WebM (VP8) files.
http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/media-formats.html
I've been able to convert one of my HD files to AVI/DivX but the video is somewhat choppy when played through Moboplayer, I'm going to see if I can get AVI/DivX right from the source to see if that's smoother, or if I'm going to have to downgrade the bitrate further.
Well that's rather annoying... I wonder why they decided not to implement the same framework codecs as they did on their recent model phones...
If I had to guess (and I do ) I'd guess it's because the source for Froyo/Gingerbread is out but Honeycomb hasn't been released yet
Acer are an OEM. The likes of you and me don't have the source, but OEM's DO.
I'm currently working on a libx264 ffmpeg preset that works for the Iconia. Since I know very little about h.264 video encoding it could take me some time but if I succeed I'll post a guide.
It could be that by the time I'm done there's already been a software update anyway!
Of course, if anyone else with some experience on these things cares to lend a hand then feel free. All the test converts I've done so far have come out really choppy with baseline presets.
I can stream .avi files from over my NAS via PlayOn.
