my opinion: very nice! the new interface is gorgeous, the semitransparent button in fullscreen especially is better. i will use it
my only complaint so far is the lack of useful widgets, other than that the new interface is very nice and I havent found any bugs yet.
I thought the interface was new also, but I was told this is the default Opera interface. We are just used to the interface that is buillt into our HTC devices.
I found the widgets really intrusive and annoying. Plus, Opera itself wouldn't rotate using the G-sensor. Still, it does looks awesome and was plenty fast.

Ok im not sure about everyone else, but ive found a bit of a bug. If I load opera widgets, the interface is the new white one, but whenever I go to change the address, or open the SIP menu for that matter, the only one that works is the junky windows default keyboard. I have the newest fingerkeyb installed, as well as the diamond 2 keyboard, and whenever I select either it pops up, then switches back to the default keyboard.
If youre still following this, when I close the widgets manager and run opera 9.5 beta, it loads the white interface and they keyboard problem prevails. Now if I go into task manager, kill widgets, and load opera 9.5, it gives me the black interface, but the keyboard works....
Not sure if this is happening to anyone else, just wanted to report it.
old and new opera
Installed the new beta onto my internal storage...obviously the original is installed onto the phones memory....everytime I open opera, it just brings up the old version (and yes, I am clicking on the new icon...) The only way I can get the new opera to come up is by clicking on widgets first and bringing up opera through one of the widgets...which is really annoying cus I really like the new look!!
Should I just uninstall the new version and re-install it onto my phone storage? hopefully it will delete the old version? I'm not sure it will though and I dont want to clog up my phones memory!! either that or is there a way to uninstall the original opera from the phones storage and free up some space??!
Also, is it just me, or is the new opera slightly slower at loading the bigger content???
Cheers guys!!
PS-And yes herbalisation-New white interface opera auto gives me the compact keyboard when I normally have the full qwerty! it always seems to revert back to compact on the new opera!!?!! well annoying!! sounds like u have the same prob as me! did u install new opera on internal storage as well? I think this is the issue...we have two instances of opera now on our Diamonds!! can anyone resolve this little mystery?

Opera updated today their open beta in http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/download/ . Now it seems they have an Symbian UIQ version too.
This version also includes the Opera widgets plataform. I dont tested yet and dont know the core build number.

If I look at the Known Issues then nothing works
ActiveX is disabled - Flash plugins and embedded video streaming do not work.
Custom software keyboards (IME) will be buggy at best, not working at worst.
No multilingual build - Only English is supported. Problems with other languages (and input methods) are not unexpected.
Installation on memory cards may cause problems.
Text wraps in overview mode.
Main testing has been done on English HTC devices (Touch Diamond, Touch Pro, Touch, Touch Dual, Touch Cruise, TyTN and Wizard) and Samsung i900.
Landscape mode does not take keyboard position into consideration.
Devices with low memory might get Out Of Memory (OOM) messages.
Opera is always running when the Widgets Manager is running.
On devices with hight DPI some of the pre-installed widgets look small.
When an URL is opened from a widget, there will be an extra browser window opened in the background that's not working properly.
Ok I installed it in my Diamond.
Its build 2723 and seems to be really fast. I installed into device and it doesn't messed up with my ROM's Opera.
The navigation is really fine but the whole widget thing is very buggy. Once you run Widgets the browser doesn't run anymore. You need to kill Opera and OperaL process or softreset. Avoiding widgets you will have a great experience.
Ok, some minutes later and I've got another impression.
Beta 2 is fast and render better some pages (gmail in normal view for example) but its unusable. The shortcut calls sometimes default Opera, sometimes the beta version. Always when I close beta version it displays widgets and i cant open the browser again. Download only for testing purposes.

You have two versions of Opera installed on your device simultaneously... expect problems!
Doesn't seem to take advantage of the accelerometer in the Diamond.
Wow, sad to see that Opera still sucks so much.
Also their forums are full of rants and the mods over there keep censoring and deleting forum postings and even whole threads.
Don't know what's going on, but commercial WM development is getting worse with every day. Just look at CorePlayer, STILL no fixed build for the Diamond, they even don't manage to put a build out which at least fixes the every now and then hickup while playing music.
On the other hand underground development is going higher every day, as seen in this forum.

Installed the build 2723 and removed the previous Opera9 and OperaL. Indeed, the speed is impressive! Opera Browser is now automatically loaded after each soft rest, however. Is there any way to avoid the auto-load after soft rest? As in the precious setting, I prefer to open/load the Opera Browser when needed in order to save memory.
Also, if Opera Browser is closed after being loaded into the memory (at the soft reset), it can't be re-opened without another soft rest. Any one encounters the same and may have solutions?
Can anyone please make the Beta 2 as an vga SD version...
Ok, I hope I dont get ripped into for this..but I couldnt find the answer.
I always found the web browsing experience pretty woeful on my X1...esp compared to the ifone. When you scroll up/down its juddery, giving me the two grey squares until it catches up on itself. Its really bad. I have installed various versions of Opera...the one I have stuck with is the version i found on this forum...when zooming you use an invisible scroll top right on the screen (does that make sense?)
Anyhoo, I then installed the superb Touch-it4.5...the version of opera in it is truely awesome! The juddering was gone, silky smooth and had a zoom button bottom left which worked even better than the version I was using...but...the hardware keyboard didnt work (I noticed a few other people had the same issue and the fix was to install another version). When going back, its all juddery again...did anybody get a fix for that version? What version does everybody else use as there are so many floating about.
Also, a little of topic but I was reading about a version of Opera (only on the symbian os so far?) that when you are presented with a bunch of buttons or text boxes (say for example a login/pass box) you simply click on them and it enlarges the boxs to full screen automatically and makes it alot easier to put in usernames/passes etc.
Thanks in advance folks, maybe once we get a complete fool proof guide we could stick the findings into the x1 tweaks, apps and panels thread!

Unfortunately the working and non-working items are all within the Opera9.exe itself:
1. Vibration
2. Scroll with optical pad
3. Zoom with volume buttons
4. HW keyboard interaction.
5. PushInternet support
So there's very little chance of a "perfect" Opera version. I use 15991 with Zoom enabled on a PI enabled ROM or 15696 on a non-PI ROM.
You could try and switch on "Smooth Scrolling" in opera:config and see if that helps with the judderiness...
You should wait for 9.7 to be released
I had the exact same issue.
I downloaded Opera 9.5 BETA and it works a charm. The UI is slightly different (colours) to the one installed with 4.5 Touch-IT ROM but it works perfectly for me.
The only issue is that I have to launch it as a seperate program from my start menu. I cannot seem to make it my default browser (I have no idea how to do that!) and how to get the Internet tab "launch browser" to launch Opera 9.5 and not the standard Opera.
Also if you run the standard Opera installed with 4.5 Touch-IT ROM, close it and then try to run Opera 9.5 BETA, it only loads the standard Opera, not 9.5.
I have to turn my phone off and back on to solve this and start using 9.5 from my start menu.
Long winded but its how I cope..
Opera 9.5 b2 with Gears
I use the gears version now.
I had so many problems with logging into sites with the version that ships with the phone that I gave up. The stock version only plays lip-service to being able to use flash anyway so I don't feel I'm losing out.
Also, the caching and navigation to previous pages is way faster in the gears version of the browser. Occasionally it slows down and thinks about things for a little while, and it forcing back to the default keyboard every time you try to enter stuff into a text-box, but its a beta after all so what do you expect?!
Obviously the gears version doesn't have flash support but I can't say I've missed that, since the stock version wasn't that hot anyway ;o)

If you paste the Opera9.exe, OperaL.exe and setup.dll files in to \Windows Manila will launch whatever version is there - for the second point II think the Manila files need ameding - haven't loooked yet though.

Opera Mini 5 Beta has been released!!!!
Tried installing it on my Ozone using the Esmertec Jbed Java App and opera doesnt work.
So, un-installed it, installed the Rose JBed ver 20080808 - found here -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=438581
And so far so good... I think I like Opera Mini 5... we'll have to see though.
Now just working on creating a new shortcut for it
Edit - here's the shortcut to launch Mini 5 automatically, you just have to use the Rose JBed above and install it to your storage card.
Cool
Thanks for that Jbed to run it. Works pretty good but I put in a bug report about Jbed 20090216.5.1 so hopefully we can get it working on that one too.
thanks for the info. it looks much more slick than v.4 I don't know whether I like the cursor thing. I am used moving from field to field with button press.
I can't seem to sign into gmail. I have to play with it more.
...for some reson it's acting strange on my Snap....when I push the "a" on the keyboard, it reads it as "g" in Opera. It makes getting into my yahoo mail kinda problematic
I use Opera because it's FAST. Anyone have any opinions whether the new beta is as speedy as version 4.2?

haven't actually clocked it, but 5 seems faster than any previous version so far for me. The interface and tabs are very slick and snappy. now for that skinny unreadable font...apparently jbed rose is all it will run on atm, so I've been messing with my registry trying to change fonts...but all I've managed to do is change the environment font, opera still uses its same ugly proprietary font no matter what.
Obviously I'm digging in the wrong place...can anyone direct me to the correct registry or xml file to change the app font?

Use JZ SmartMort. In the JZ Settings program: General Tweaks / Hacks -> JBed Java -> JBed Font Sizes. Mess around with them to your content.
Before you do that though, do take a look at the font settings within Opera Mini itself: Settings -> Font size
is anybody else having issues when typing any letters that also have numbers on them? ie. 'q=1','w=2','e=3', etc (on OZONE). Its acting like i have num lock on and its not actually typing in the letter, instead it works like a keypad on a dumbphone so i have to tap W/2 twice for a B.. this happens for all the number keys which makes this browser unusable!
please help!
I just installed this, and i must say its much nicer than the default that comes with the TP2. But theirs a few things.
1. I cannot find the program to launch it again after i close it. When i look under the drop down of programs running, all thats listed is "Java FX", which when clicked, does take me back to the browser. Is their not its own icon? Or is their a way to link the new one to the "internet" tab in Touch flo?
2. Is their any way to keep it from poping up its own software keyboard?
[edit] Ok.. someone posted this solution::: Disable Inline Editing in Settings\Advanced...
3. When i type in the address bar, it sometimes, double types letters. Very annoying.
never mind
beta 5 unfortunately has problems with switches from landscape to portrait and vice versa.
when i pull out the keyboard in oder to type something of course the screen rotates. In about 50% of all cases the browser UI does not follow the rotation, but the screen just turns white.
opera 4 has no problems with screen rotations.
Java
Posted this question in another thread too but seems more appropriate here:
I came from the Mogul to the TP2 so I'm not so sure how to install and run Opera Mini 5. I'd like to try it, but do you still need a Java applet launcher to run it? Or can you just run it on the TP2 if you put the .jad and/or .jar files somewhere? Thanks.

Follow the instructions on the opera website:
"To try Opera Mini 5 beta, simply visit the address m.opera.com/next, using your phone’s default Web browser."
in case the OEM of your phone pre-installed a suboptimal java runtime environment (or even none) try this:

LOL, that link redirects us to this topic...
That said, I also have some minor problems with the new opera mini 5 beta. It look way more slick then the standard version of Opera, but there are a few things:
1. Just like Lyian stated, I as well hate the opera interface keyboard popping up and would really like to turn off this feature.
2. When I slide out my keyboard, the java applet notices this action and tells me to restart opera mini 5 :S (using JBlend, standard application deliverd on my tp2)
3. I would really like to have the possibility to make a shortcut to opera mini beta 5 in the start menu.
4. Everytime I restart the mini-browser, it asks me if it may connect to the network. I would really like to have the mini-browser never ask me this again.
Now I do remember that there were some solutions to my little problems mentioned above. With the old opera mini there were some tweaks that offered an solution to point 3 and 4, but I can't find them anywere. Does anybody know if they work as well for mini 5, and where I can find them? Does anybody have an solution to the other problems?
Thanks in advance,

use jbed instead of JBlend. JBlend can not handle screen rotation at all (no matter whether the java application can or not).

I just started playing with Mini 5, and it's freaking awesome with esmertec jbed. It's got the speed of Opera Mini, but it has some degree of flicking and it can copy/paste text! Mini 4.2 allowed you to copy and paste text when you switched to text entry mode, but you had to change the keyboard to the old full keyboard to utilize CTRL C and CTRL V. I can now highlight text on pages. Plus tabbed browsing! Remarkable.
I looked for a signed version of 5, but I couldn't find it (I was able to install the signed version for 4.2). Is there a trick I'm not aware of?
Mini 5 works for some of the forums I visit. I was unable to post in the Yuku forums with 4.2, and it would format oddly unless I was in mobile view. Screen transitions are a lot snappier.
I've never had any luck with screen orientation transitions with Opera Mini, so it's not a big deal for me. I'm used to using it exclusively in portrait mode anyway.
I think I've found myself a new browser. Anyone have any tips or tricks to share?
ETA: I'd love to get the flicking speed higher.
Does anyone know how to get the clock/time to show on the top border/frame? It's on Opera Mini 4.2 and it'd be cool to have it on this browser also. Thanks in advance !
Yes!!!! Finally... the java one was good, but had problems running on winmo.
Now... there's a real cab for it. yessss!!! I hate Opera Mobile and it's slowness. Finally!!

When i am in the many areas i go to where t-mobile is gprs here in Illinois, it will TOTALLY come in handy. Much faster!
Yeah it would definetly help if your boosting 2g gprs signal..
If your like me an run 3g most of the time, then opera beta 10 is the best
Just my opinion...
And it's quite faster than Opera Mobile. I'd like to make it default browser. I have already tried the registry settings, it won't work. Any ideas?
I love opera mini in general, but this version for some unknown reason cannot accept my facebook username and pass. Thus I cannot login to that page, it just keeps refreshing when I hit Login.
This is only in FB, in other pages that require logging in everything goes fine..
Anyone else experiencing this?
great browser but how do u open email links and bookmarks from outside the browser I click em and it just opens the browser start screen not the page I want!
I had to turn the password autosave off in the settings so facebook could acepted password.
This release is brilliant! It is great for multitasking, which is a huge plus. Is there a way to make it the new default browser? (for opening links out of other applications, in my case MoTweets?

No problem here logging into faecesbook, but I don't think I've tried logging back into it yet.
I've never used Opera Mini, but it is pretty nice.. It doesn't draw very well though, I've tried several sites and it looks really bad.. Like http://geocaching.com the site is kind of organized in columns and the columns are quite narrow, and winds up drawing on top of itself.
Opera 10 beta 3 launched Veeeryy slow. It was the only reason for me , for deleting it for ever. Im going to try out the mini version.. thanks for the hint
I have installed opera mini 5 now, but on some pages, like
www.openingstijden.nu or m.opentot.nl it doesnt give any search Results.. can somebody test and confirm this please.

Because this version doesnt eat up 90% of the device's resources to run. I am constantly amazed that people use opera beta 10. You can run opera beta 10 and sense UI.... THATS IT. try to run anything else and your system starts complaining about memory.

I think that Opera 10 (and other versions of the "full" client) suffer more from the resource drain experienced overall in 6.5 vs 6.1; I'm running 6.1 as well, and I can run opera 10 and a bunch of other stuff (text, gmaps, music, etc) all at the same time.
Also, anybody using Opera 10 on 6.5 should try running the dynamic proxy resource and nopushinternet cabs to address memory use.
eff this thing! I cannot log into ANY websites, redbox, netflix, CAG..nothing that I have to input a user name or password and check a box to remember me. I guess I'll try to play w/ the 'save password' settings, but I'm back to using Skyfire until I figure it out..argh!!
To anyone using Mini: I know we all want to browse the web that looks mostly the same as on our home computers, and often that's nice, but try browsing with Mini in "Mobile View". It's really the best way to experience the web in Mini, it renders almost everything really nicely, no need for panning and zooming, you just scroll down the page in 1 direction and never miss anything. It's very nice and quick and easy for reading newsites and long articles and things like that.
I use Mini for this type of quick browsing and Mobile for anything more "heavy duty", it's a nice combo.
I would really like to set Opera Mini 5 as my default browser. If any one finds a solution please update this thread for all of us.
