Hi all!
as you might have noticed, the device does not respond to screen tap/button push while backlight is turned off, the first action turns the backlight on and you have to repeat it to make the device do what you want...
Is there any way to let it respond to each action while backlight ist turned off?
Many thanks and sorry for my english
So far there is no solution..i posted this a while ago too.
I just turned backlight dimming of...it was to annoying.

Honestly I'm deeply grateful for this option!!!
I can always turn on/off the light with powerbutton.
Often I want to put the back light on WITHOUT any change on the screen (like reading ebook when screen-press makes page change). So I just love it how it is.
The problem is that it isnt an option
Actually i do not have a problem with it, i ask here fore smb who has a program, where keeping backlight on doesnt work properly so this option make some problems,
i would love this on fs loox 560, but since xperia cant turn the backlight completely off and i can see everything without turning backlight on and i just dont need it anymore
Thank you two for your replies
Actually you can touch your camera button first to bring the backlight back/prevent backlight fade, then click what you want to do
Hm... It doen't bother me at all. I even like it.

Did you check the keyboard settings ?
(in Settings/Personal/Buttons see the last tab called Backlight)
Is it dark when you try and use it? the light won't come on unless the ambient light level is low!
Thanks Tekflow,
Yes I did in both positions, auto and disable auto.
It pisses me off.... the JJ is brand new out of the box, I kindda hoped I'm stupid and I just don't know how to handle it...:-(

KB Backlight
Hi Tintoy,
Yes tried it even in complete darknes, but if you disable the Auto KB backlight sensor, there is suppossed to be a KB BL manual button (user manual pg 10, button # 5). Tried both sits. Nada.
Thank you,
Saar
Is it a hardware defect? On my MDP Pro it works very well.
Sounds like a hardware problem, doesn't it? Off to the service centre...

Hi guys, faulse alarm, I'm standing in the corner.... It does work but in its own logic, ...only when you actually press a key. I've expected that it should be on/off once the sensor dictates it's dark. Probably my own logic is faulty as I guess it could suck up the battery juice.. anyway, all's OK, thx .
Best,
Saar
that's good news ....
What I did is the following: I unchecked the "Enable Keyboard ..." and put the time to 10 sec for "Turn off if not used...".
So each time I press a key on the keyboard, it illuminates: I found this useful even in full day time in order to see clearly the signs in red. On another hand I did not notice really a significant difference in battery life.

What would be preferable to losing the cool auto-sensor altogether is a reg hack to adjust the amount of darkness that triggers the sensor. It's set waaaaay too dark at the moment, and needs to come on in less dark surroundings. Any ideas?
I to have a exec, and have the keyboard back light set to come on when i push a key, but what is the button next to the voluse slider for as it dose nothing
Thanks
John
If the screen backlight times out, pressing that button turns the backlight back on again. This avoids you having to tap the screen or press a key thus accidentally selecting something you didn't wanna do!
OH! thanks for the info on the button, But i have my screen and backligh both set for 5 mins so asume this buton would be needed if you set the screen to turn off after say 5 mins but the backlight to go off after 30 seconds?
Thanks
John
Perhaps someone has an explanation why my backlight doesnt light up again when a button is pressed?
From time to time, the backlight goes dark and even though I am pressing buttons, screen, power button, etc, the backlight doesnt come back on. I have to search for the backlight adjuster (in the dark) in order to switch the light back on.
I have wisbar advanced and SpbPocketPlus installed - might that effect this somehow??
Thanks for any advice!
i have exactly the same problem and don´t know a solution. ;-(
Wisbar Advance 2.6.0.1 is installed, SpbPocketPlus not.
I think it comes more often if i use the camera, but it is not reproduceable...
I've never had this problem before, I dont have wisbar installed.
You may be doing a press and hold function on your device. Quick press of the power turns it off, a long press turns off the backlight. the only way to turn it back on is to long press the power button.
also you have settings that turns the back light screen off, which may be affecting this.
This problem used to occur on the O2 XDA2i ALL THE TIME!
Just my 2 cents. Sorry, not very helpful, but defo a problem we've seen before. You hvae to go into settings to start the backlight back up.

It hasnt happened lately (actually ever I posted this thread strangely enough) but its quite embarrassing when you have to find your way through a dark screen.
I put a large symbol of the brightness adjuster in one corner (using SpbPocketPlus), so I only have to find that symbol rather then start --> settings --> etc..... its not a cure but it makes it easier switching it back on.
If anyone has a remedy for this problem, please share...
Not sure why this happens, but I fixed it using...

This app - run on your prophet, and all is back to normal. Keep a copy on your SD card...

didn't help
I tried and still use the neo backlight fix. But this fix is only for forcing via startup a longer measured time for the light to stay on.
I too have suffered with the problem of the backlight not coming on every now and again after starting up the prophet. I've had this problem on numerous roms too which is interesting. What more interesting is that even in the days of my owning a Blue Angel (Orange M2000, MDA) I STILL remember having this intermittent problem with the light not always coming on. Only way I fixed it was to simply soft reset the device. Whenever I did that and when I do it now, it stops it happening for week or so at least.
I still use the neo back light fix too as my phone has the quick light turn off problem without it. Neo certainly created a good fix no mistaking.
All the best
Nicholas
i had the same problem...just put the same value to the standby and backlight ...( both 3 mins on mine)...and never happened again....i think it helps...
I have a strange backlight & power-off problem on my Qtek S200:
When the backlight is switched on and I press the Power button shortly to switch it to sleep mode, the screen gets blank but the backlight does not go off.
So now I wait first when the backlight timer goes off before switching the device to sleep mode manually.
Another problem:
When the power settings is set to switch the device off automatically, it reboots when the timer goes off. So my solution is to disable the auto power-off feature.
How to fix this to the original behaviour ?
I tried the neo_backlight_fix and set the backlight timeout to the same value as the standby timeout, but with no avail.
My Qtek S200 has still the original old ROM (G4 model) and Windows Mobile 5.0:
ROM version info:
IPL: 2.10.001
SPL: 2.10.001
GSM: 02.07.20
OS: 2.10.7.25
Please help me to solve the problem.
Maybe I messed up a lot and the only solution is to install a newer ROM which is available since some time at qtek.nl.
Thanks in advance.
When backlight goes OFF (after certain perion of inactivity) it is still little bit ON. It is not visible during daylight (because backlight is very low), but visible in dark room. Why? How to fix?

I do not want to use PowerOFF option for some resons (for example some alarms are not able to work after long period of powerOff state. With my old Imate jam backlight turned comletely OFF, but with Atom - no.
Sorry answering in English, because many readers are not Russians
No problem! So, all alarms and notifications must working from the power off mode.
But still I wonder:
1. Is it normal, that backlight is always little bit ON (visible only in dark room)? Or I need to go to the service?
2. If it is normal - is there any posibility to turn backlight off (via registry etc)?
Hi,
I've been trying to figure out how to implement the perfect keylock. Currently, I'm not able to find a keylock program/MortScript that does the following:
1. Lock the keypad if phone goes into standby
2. Auto-unlock the keypad if the power button is pressed.
This way, when I power on my phone, it's not locked. But if it's auto-powered on (ie reminder, etc.) then it will be locked.
Hi, I find it interesting that, you can upload scripts please
Greetings and Thanks
Sorry for the English
have you tried S2U2? (Slide to unlock - keylock similar to iPhone's)
Think it does 1) not 2), but I'm not too sure...
it looks cool though
Our device does both points as standard. Problem that it powers itself on and automatically unlocks when for example a call or any notification pops up on the screen.
I agree with hachuah's idea about automatic locking, so I'm looking for application that could:
1. Lock the screen if standby
2. On standby mode. If I tap some part of the screen (some part of screen only to save some batt power), then it would show option to unlock.
3. If I tap, but do nothing or do not unlock, it would goes to standby again.
With above I do not have to push the power button, buttons are easy to be come wear and stay down.
I'm even gladly to pay for someone who's willing to create that kind of application. Or is it already available?

I seriously doubt if that could be archieved by software alone. The touch screen is essentially connected to the LCD power. If the panel is off, the touch screen is off.
Furthermore, it's a all-or-none operation - you just can't have "part" of it on, and ther other part off. I am pretty certain no manufacturer would ever produce such an implementation, even if they could.

I know that Symbian phone able to do that.
So, basically I could set the timer for the screen to go off. And when the screen off and tap on the screen, it will ask if I want to unlock the screen or not. If not, it will go off again.
So, from what you said, it is impossible to make the screen off but the touch on? It is a hardware issue then. What a sad. Only recently I moved from Symbian to WM, if only WM doesn't rely on button too much.
Or maybe it is possible by set the brightness to very minimal, so doesn't display anything, but the touch is still working?
So, it's an application that would turn the brightness off and lock after some defined time. And would turn the brightness on again when the touchscreen is tapped to ask if user want to unlock.
Is it possible?
Perhaps I should clarify what I said - what I meant by "all or none" operation is that the *touch screen* won't be able to get switched on partially - to save power as you have hoped.
In fact, the touch screen is technically separated from the LCD panel itself, and the backlite too - but it's either a MS or HTC decision that they are stuck together, i.e. you just can't have the LCD off, with the touch screen stays on.
In fact, recent HTC devices WM5 or above have elmininated the function to actually turn off the backlight while the LCD panel is on.
So what we can do is very much limited to use a button based keylock, instead of a touch screen based.
As for your suggestion to display "black" on screen while keeping minimal backlight - it's note quite practical in HTC devices. First the backlight must be on as I said earlier for it to display even "black" such that the touch screen is responsive. It follows that your battery will be drained extremely quickly.
Even with very small power to LCD for the touch could work still takes too much power? Aww.. so it is not possible to do what I want.
Well, I guess I need to get used to with using button, or maybe next time I will try to use bluetooth device to wake the screen.
Thank you for the information, very educating and useful.

Hi everyone, I recently switched from HTC Touch to X1 and something has changed that I do not really like or at least I'm not used to this now and would like to have it in the same old way. I have WinMob 6.5 but this should not have anything to do with this effect.
Normally I use the stylus to press the touchscreen and immediately the device reacts, but now with X1 the device does nothing after first stylus press, and after a second pressing the device reacts as it should.this sometimes is annoying.
Maybe I also should say that this of course only happens when when backlight dims down. by first pressing backlight recovers and a second pressing make the device react. how to change this to direclty reacting after pressing in backlight-dim mode?
Thanks for feedback
Norbert

Its not a bug, its a feature. And i like it....
Turn backlight dimming off, so that your x1 turns off after some time without to dim. Then you won't have the problem.
Dear Jordan, did your device react instantly even when the backlight was dimmed? I'd like this feature. Please tell me.
