Hi.
My X1 seem to like trying to connect to internet whenever I dont have WLAN (like before it has connected when I turn it on.
Is there any way to turn this off?
Im was playing with the connection modes and deactivated "Auto" and set it to gprs/gsm or w/e it's called mode but this does not seem to solve the problem of the phone going into "Trying to connect" mode.
You got any tips on how to solve this?
I searched the web, and found this...
Go to Start Menu ---> settings
Then go to the "connections" tab
open "connections"
go to the "advanced" tab
click on "select networks"
There are two pull-down menus, choose "my work network" for both
Then click OK.
I've managed to stop the X1 from connecting automatically with this, hope this helps.

My brother gave me his 8525 after his girlfriend bought him a new phone. I then unlocked it using the unlocker that i found here so that I could use it on tmobile. I am on a prepaid plan and there is no way to get internet through tmobile with prepaid, but the WIFI should still work, but it doesnt. I can get it to connect to a network but when i open IE it wont go to any web adress i type in. Any ideas????

Tried that, and it didnt make any difference.
When I try to go to a site it says " Cannot Connect: Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap settings"
I have tried messing around with the settings, but i still cant get it to work right.
I think IE is still trying to connect to the internet via AT&T's network service instead of going through wifi.
Under start>settings>system do you have a proxy folder? maybe it's under programs as well. Look for it. If you do, run disable proxy.
Also go to start>settings>connections>network cards>network adapters
make sure this is reads under "my network card connects to: the internet"
select your 802.11b/g and make it "use server assigned ip address"
Hopefully that helps
hey man thanks for the tips, but it still is not working.
I found my proxy folder and ran disable proxy, my card is set to connect to the internet and it uses the server assigned IP adress.
But now when i try to use the internet it does not give me the "can not connect due to your settings" message, it just keeps trying to load the page but nothing happens.
go to start>settings>connections
click on connections
go to the advanced tab and click on select networks
on the first dropdown make it "my isp"
with the second select "my work network"
That should do it
i think that worked. Im not near a strong wifi signal right now but i think its doing the right thing. Ill know for sure tomorrow.
Thanks Pedro 2K
I was having the same issue on my 8525 after going to 6. Seems fine now. I'll try from work on Monday.

well as it turns out that did not work. I still think it has somtething to do with it trying to connect to AT&t's network.
any other ideas?
i posted in another thread about a similar issue that i have and it is still not solved
some programs that use data on my device will not connect using 3g (pocket outlook using gmail), but they will connect when the wifi is on
it's kind of the opposite of what's going on with yours, but i believe the root of the problem is the same, because we are getting the exact same error message
i believe the problem stems from how/why windows mobile 6 organizes connections; which makes no sense to me whatsoever
under connections i have:
"My ISP"
"MEdia Net"
"Work"
Of course there is nothing even under my isp, or work, yet it wont let me delete them
i tried deleting them manually from the registry and that messed a whole lot of things up, so plz do not make that mistake
my media net settings ARE correct, but why are there so many different connections here, that arent even being used, yet i cant remove them?
what the hell is "MY Isp" ? I thought Media net was my isp...lol
this is confusing and frustrating
any more ideas????
Try disabling and data connections using this:
http://www.modaco.com/content/Pocket-PC-Software/246171/New-FREE-Utility/
This should make sure it is trying to go through wireless. Just a quick question, you are not connected to activsync while trying wifi are you?
ok, since you're using t-mobile, and only just want to use wifi, do this
go to start>settings>connections->connections->advanced
switch both to "my isp", click on edit (either one is fine), delete the modem number in there.
The last thing you need to do is disable the hidden proxy proxy. I dont know exactly how, cause i dont use the AT&T rom anymore, but its somewhere in the start menu, just poke around, there should be a "disable proxy' somewhere
@ surgex0
if you think that's confusing......on the tilt, they've added a 4th one.......AT&T ISP. But basically, whatever settings that was in My ISP, is now in AT&T ISP.
Is there anyway to do this....Some times I turn on my PPC and need to access something and out of no where, the promp comes up and there really is no easy way of cancelling it.....I know I know....why not shut off the Wi-Fi, i rather not go back and forth and back and forth......kinda think about it......We need a new Connection Manager.
Edit.
On what?
On my droid x you can turn off the notification in wireless settings.
In the WiFi section of your phone, click menu, then advanced.

Kayzee,
This is caused by your Internet settings.
1. Go to Programs/settings/all settings ( choose it from the menu on the bottom right corner ).
2. Tap Connections, within that tap once more Connections
3. Tap Advanced, than Select Networks
4. Under "Programs that automatically connect..", select My work Network instead of the mobile connection and tap OK.
From now on, it will never start data connection when trying to go to Internet, but you can always start it manually from the Comm manager.
I hope it helps, good luck !
If you search the forum, you'll find quite a few of solutions. But what works for me are:
1) BsB Tweaks - use it to disable the "data connection" (3G)
2) WiFi Toggle - use it to toggle the WiFi on & off
In "data services" turn everything to manual update, e.g tweeter, stocks, ...
Keeping the wifi on constantly doesn't actually consume much battery life and it's only the 3G really sucks the battery juice.

This doesn't work. Every time I check the Internet connection by loading a random webpage via the sense UI it still has an Internet connection, even if I doublechecked before to see if the Internet connection setting were off. This is frustrating

just uncheck the "auto download " option in weather tab in tf3d
I went to the C.Manager. I can't get it to work right.
This is what it's set to:
Wireless Connection(Disables all wireless connection): ON
In-Flight Internet(Enable Wi-Fi and Direct push): OFF
Phone(Change phone settings): ON
Bluetooth(Turn on Bluetooth): ON
Wi-Fi (Connect to Wi-Fi Network): ON
MS Direct Push(Retrieve Outlook mail as it arrives): OFF
Data Connection(setup data connection): ON
With it like this, if I do a reset on the HD2, when it reboots, I see a Wi-Fi icon at the top. I click the icon, it says "Multiple Connections Detected", I click on the the wi-fi icon, New window opens titled Wi-Fi. Listed says wifi(Turn on wifi):OFF. Next line says Wi-Fi Networks, which has nothing listed.
I never changed of of the wi-fi stuff till today. I did do ONE regedit, for the Wireless N feature, but I changed it back when I got all these problems. And no, I don't know if I had this issues b4 that one edit change. And yes, I did a soft reset after every reg change.
1) I tried clicking the wi-fi on this screen.button pushes down but nothing happens. I press "X" and close the window
2) I launch Comm Manager. I try clicking the Wireless Connections Icon. It' still says ON. BUT Inflight Internet changes to:ON, and Phone changes to:OFF, Bluetooth changes to:OFF, Data-Connection is greyed out.
I press it again. Busy sign comes up, nothing changes.
3) I press Phone. It switches to:ON. And InFlight Internet changes:OFF
4) I press bluetooth, and it turns: ON
5) I press Wi-Fi and still nothing changes(Still:ON)
6) I press Data connection. It switched to: ON
7) I click In-Flight:OFF, changes to ON, and turns off PHONE.
8) I press InFlight again, nothing happens.
9) I press Phone, and it turns on the phone. and turns OFF the In-flight.
So... Wireless Connections:ON and the Wi-Fi:ON. Neither one does anything when I click it. Both is always GREEN ON.
ALSO
Under Settings-menu-all setting.
I click Connections and selected Wi-Fi.
"Turn on Wi-Fi" says: ON
I can click on it, and it says OFF
If I check Comm Manager, Wi-Fi is still ON and so is Wireless Connections.
I do a reset of the HD2
ANd I still get the wi-fi telling me theres a signal.Nothing changed. And when I go into "Turn wifi on", its checked again.
That little attenna I get after soft reset, only started after the regedit. I never had the wi-fi on b4 now. But I checked and that is reset to show 1.
"39. Speed Up Web Page Loading Considerably
The following registry tweak will enable almost instantaneous web page loading in the web browser. It apparently enables wireless N mode but seems to work with cellular data too. Go to:
HKLM/Comm/BCMSDDHD1/Parms
11nModeDisable = Change from 1 to 0"
Can't turn off wifi either
I have exactly the same problem, will be forced to hard reset, I think. Does anyone have any ideas?
On my wife's and my own Galaxy s4 running FreeGS4 v2.0 ROM - the hotspot works via menu, I have a toggle widget for it that works too. I can connect up with multiple devices to either phone...
But neither phone will allow more than 2 devices to connect at any one time.
I went into the LAN settings to confirm settings are correct - and they are, DHCP is active and allow up to 100 connects - this was default, i tried lower and lower numbers, all the way down to 8, but neither phone will allow more than 2 connections at the same time.
I tried to toggled airplane mode on and off, I've tried rebooting. I've tried manually entering the settings.
I'm starting to worry that it is a flaw in the ROM itself, but a friend of mine who also has the same phone and ROM as I do claims he can connect more than 2. So I'm not sure but I am at hair pulling out stage at this point.
Anyone have any ideas?
edit - search works! I found the solution, and I feel 3% more stupid for somehow missing it earlier

go to settings - hotspot - "press on configure->show advanced options->maximum connections" Thanks
Click on configure hotspot and page down in the pop up menu that appears. Click the box that says show advanced options and then set the maximum connections you want to allow. You can also set 2.4ghz or 5.0ghz in this menu.
