I'd like to tether via Wifi and not from my carrier's data. Like use the phone as a wireless adapter for a laptop without wifi.
How can this be done?
Yes, I do believe you're talking about the functions of WMWifiRouter. it's not freeware anymore, but maybe you can find an old version of it that's free.
A lot of people get that confuse, I want to use USB-WIFI. While WMWifiRouter is more of like a (signal) extender.
I'm not really understanding what you mean, if WMWifiRouter isn't what you want.

Anyone get wireless tether to work?
I installed the latest, and it looks like it's working on the phone, but I can't find it on the PC. I have my MT3G right next to me also, and wireless tether works fine on it.
Anyone tried to use wireless tether?

I know this isn't a real answer, but have you tried Barnacle? I've noticed it's much more dependable.
Never tried barnacle.
Can you tell me which version of wireless tether you're using that works?
It's in the 'Settings' 'About' tab.
Thanks.
I'm using Wireless Tether 2.0.5-pre3 and just not getting it to show up in windows.
When I use the same version on my MyTouch3G, it shows up fine in windows and works well.
From the DroidX I don't see the Android Tether at all.
I tried Barnacle, and it shows up fine in windows and seems to connect well. I get a little data tranfer, but the window on the Droid shows repeated reconnects du to 'NAT' at times, other times seems to work well.
Right now Barnacle seems to be working.
Wonder what is going on, especially with Wireless tether.
Can anyone help me figure out how to wirelessly tether to my ps3 the app won't work
Completely the wrong section.
First of all, if you have a ROM and kernel compatible with Wireless Tether, all you should have to do is turn it on and the PS3 will see it.
Second, it's going to be an awful experience if you're expecting to game over this connection... You'll lag like a sonuvabitch.

The PS3 cannot view an ad-hoc connection.
And no, you won't lag... I play Xbox 360 nightly on a 3G connection. There isn't even a need to turn 4G on.
To the ORIGINAL QUESTION, the only way you'll be able to wireless tether with your PS3 is if you connect to your phone with your laptop, then reroute the connection as an access point to your ps3. Look into programs like "Connectify".
Thanks a lot

False, You can just Flash the Mobile AP 9000 app also here in the developer section. Its creates a true wifi connection, not and ad-hoc connection.

You need to be on a stock, odex'd rom. Deodex'd ROMs do not work. I would say that Wired Tether to a laptop with Connectify is a better solution.
Konane...is there any chance of releasing an odexed ver of ure rom so this mobile ap wud work?

Not sure what kind of crazy lucky internet connection city you live in, but my 4g upload speeds are faster than my home internet upload speeds. Download speeds do not matter since they so far exceed what is needed. I live in Houston and yes we have pretty slow internet here.

Yes it is, but the iPod Touch has no problem with those... Neither does the X-Box.
Ps3 and Wii seem to not want to support it.

I can't connect to my Wii or nds with connectify and they don't support ad-hoc neither... how sure are you about the deodex thing? I might decide to keep my phone stock simply due to this... and I was so excited to install a custom rom on my new epic today too...

With a rom that is not Deodexed you can use the MobileAP posted in the dev forum. I run my wii off of it on occasion.

Just registered so I have a bit or searching to do.
I'm unable to connect my Original Droid (v2.2) to my N7 with Barnacle.
No problem connecting the 'Droid to my Mac laptop.
The only way I've been able to tether is to FoxFi on my phone and PDA net Tablet on the N7 with limited success.
play.google. com /store / apps/details?id=com.pdanet.tablet (remove spaces)
]
It only runs over Bluetooth.
I can access the web, my IMAP email accounts.
Can't run Pandora or my work Outlook.
I use Foxfi on my phone, and no special apps on my N7, over wifi. The Foxfi "network" pops right up on the N7.

I may be having issues because I'm running v2.2 on my phone.
N7 does not support ad hoc networks, they won't show up. Change the settings on your phone to infrastructure, and it works like a champ.
For the last month ive been having trouble with WIFI Tether. When my devices connect to it, they say they have limited connection. I email the app owner and he says I have to change the APN Protocol in IPv4. Ive tried that. When I click on IPv4 it doesnt do anything. Its greyed out, so clicking on it, isnt an option. He doesnt seem to understand this. And by the way, im stock rooted.
The only thing that fixes this problem is to re root my phone. This last time it only worked for 1 week. It was working sunday last time I used it, went to use it today and it wouldnt work.
Any help would be appreciated.

I don't think so. I don't usually tether, but I'm pretty sure I've used it over WiFi before.
I've been using FoxFi for a long time. Works great with wifi.

I run stock rooted and use Xposed with Moto Tether. Never had any issues at all, I watch tv at night via my slingbox at home. On the road all week.
