Can anyone help me figure out how to wirelessly tether to my ps3 the app won't work
Completely the wrong section.
First of all, if you have a ROM and kernel compatible with Wireless Tether, all you should have to do is turn it on and the PS3 will see it.
Second, it's going to be an awful experience if you're expecting to game over this connection... You'll lag like a sonuvabitch.

The PS3 cannot view an ad-hoc connection.
And no, you won't lag... I play Xbox 360 nightly on a 3G connection. There isn't even a need to turn 4G on.
To the ORIGINAL QUESTION, the only way you'll be able to wireless tether with your PS3 is if you connect to your phone with your laptop, then reroute the connection as an access point to your ps3. Look into programs like "Connectify".
Thanks a lot

False, You can just Flash the Mobile AP 9000 app also here in the developer section. Its creates a true wifi connection, not and ad-hoc connection.

You need to be on a stock, odex'd rom. Deodex'd ROMs do not work. I would say that Wired Tether to a laptop with Connectify is a better solution.
Konane...is there any chance of releasing an odexed ver of ure rom so this mobile ap wud work?

Not sure what kind of crazy lucky internet connection city you live in, but my 4g upload speeds are faster than my home internet upload speeds. Download speeds do not matter since they so far exceed what is needed. I live in Houston and yes we have pretty slow internet here.

Does the wired tether get a better connection than the ad hoc? I know for me a mobile ap tether gets a faster connection than ad hoc for me.

Yes it is, but the iPod Touch has no problem with those... Neither does the X-Box.
Ps3 and Wii seem to not want to support it.

I can't connect to my Wii or nds with connectify and they don't support ad-hoc neither... how sure are you about the deodex thing? I might decide to keep my phone stock simply due to this... and I was so excited to install a custom rom on my new epic today too...

With a rom that is not Deodexed you can use the MobileAP posted in the dev forum. I run my wii off of it on occasion.

Anybody knows if it is possible to connect a PSP or a PS3 with the Nexus one using My WIFI Tether. I guess the most important one would be the PSP
My PSP doesn't seems to see the nexus wifi connection like the laptop does.
Thanks!
When you have wifi tether setup on the N1, the wireless radio is set for ad-hoc connection, no infrastructure. Change the Wifi settings on your psp and ps3 to connect through ad-hoc. But speed won't be the greatest, but it works.

No, I have no reason to. It should work in theory.
Seems like the adhoc on the PSP is for connection only to the PS3 and others PSP's.
I searched online but cant seem to find anyone who is using the Nexus to connect to psp

Which is incorrect. I've connected my PSP to my PC fine with Xlink Kai.
But it the PSP does not connect to the Nexus! It can't see the access point and even if I put it manually it cannot connect.
I've noticed with the new CM 5.0.5.3 the wireless and wired tether say they are not supported due to the kernal but still brodcast a signal that my laptop and psp and ps3 cannot find..
Even after reflashing to older versions it says this. I'd love to play my psp at work online

I'm still waiting my 11 days to get the new CM on my nexus (see sig) but I can't remember if you could set the phones IP address and manually configure the psp to connect to it?
in theory it should work if I can get my ps3 to see it.
I have been trying to get my zune to see it but it doesnt. Cant tether to my psp either. Tethers great to my iPod touch though.

Something funny!
I tether my wife's iPhone with the Nexus and the download speed was faster than the at&t itself.
Before I start this is more of a glich then a hack. That said you going to need a HTC EVO that is rooted and is running fresh_evo 0.3, I dont know why but this does'nt work with fresh_evo 0.5.3, I also have'nt tried this with any other ROM need feedback. Ok so what we are going to do is use the sprint hotspot without paying for it, this also might work with Xbox 360 I don't know since I don't own it, you are also going to need wireless tether. Turn on the sprint hotspot you will get an error message just push ok. Then go to your ps3 and scan for a wireless network it should find your phone it will be EVO and some numbers connect to it and run and test you will get an error. Now turn on your wireless tether on your EVO you might get an error thats ok. Now while the wireless tether is running turn off sprint hotspot now go back to your ps3 and scan for a network now insted of saying EVO and some numbers it will say Androidtether connect to it and there you go your online!!! Now even if you don't live in a 4G area 3G is still good for games I don't get 4G in my house and I still play MW2 over 3G with no lag
Happy Hacking,
Andre104623
LOL....
You think we didn't know how to do this?
Did I miss something? I thought the Wireless Tether app put up an access point???
Is this new?
So why does wifi tether without all the tricks not work? Now that wifi tether supports WPA it would seem to me that a PS3 could natively be connected.
Sent from Evo
I have a WiFi Tether .apk on my phone that i saved from another forum that supposedly works...haven't tried yet. Basically the guy who posted it said something like, "You want to use this one to tether a PS3 and not the latest version on the market or in roms". HmMmm i'll check it out tomorrow.

Confused, I just tried. Opened up my MyTeather App on my phone, turned it on, scanned on my ps3, found the network, connected on my ps3, authorized it on my phone and connected to the internet browser no problem on PS3. Am I missing something from this post?
It's ok OP. I got a good chuckle out of your thread. We all have moments like these sometimes.

Trying to use Wifi Tether (google) app in rooted Vibrant (http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list?can=2&q=NexusOne)
Everything setup correct and works good on the phone itself. Laptop shows the connection as 'computer-to-computer' network rather than 'wireless network'. Although signal strengh is very good laptop just says "waiting for network..." and never connects. How to change Wifi Tether setting to show as 'wireless network' instead of 'computer-to-computer' network so that it will connect?
You should load the mobile AP patch instead. Works much better than the wifi tether app on the vibrant.

thanks for replying guys..i went to the mobile AP flash thread and read that you have to do clockwork recovery to flash it. I think when froyo update happens its gonna disable mobile AP flash?? I see people saying (and even Youtube videos) of using Wifi tether and Barnacle wifi legacy to tether from Vibrant. I tried both of them and they show as 'compter-to-computer' network on laptop and it wont connect.
You should delete everything & start from the beginning. If that doesn't work then try it on someone else laptop to see if that's the problem if not is your phone. Maybe is a problem the way u rooted your phone. If it continues doing it on the other laptop u are testing it. Most deff is your phone.
Froyo has wireless AP built in by default. We have yet to know if T-mobile will disable it. If they do, someone will just hack it back in.
Interesting. I prefer wireless tether. I think it works much better than the MobileAP.
So this turns out to be an issue with my laptop. Laptop is not able to connect to ad-hoc (computer to computer) wifi networks. Both wifi tethering app and Barnacle worked on a friends laptop. Got around 2 Mbps from T-mobile 3G.
I did have to update the driver for the wireless chip on one laptop to support ad-hoc networks, but it was worth it. If you're interested, check your wireless chip manufacturer's site for a newer driver.
The TMO sales-droids told me that the froyo update would enable the wireless hotspot (MobileAP), but who knows till we actually get it. Even if it does, if it works like the MobileAP does now, I'll continue using wireless-tether.

MobileAP didn't work for me. Win7 showed no internet activity.
Wireless Tether on the other hand worked perfectly, so YMMV.
Does anyone has a problem while using mobile AP while the connection is steady but after the screen dims or locks up the speed slows down and sometimes cut off the tether to the device? would there be anyway around this?

I have a question about tethering I'm trying to use the wifi for my gaming console (ps3). It doesn't recongize the ip address. So will it recongize it when the update comes or will it not work for gaming consoles.

maybe a dumb question but i rooted girl's vibrant and flashed mobileAP which worked great the first day. i couldnt get barnacle or google's wireless tether to actually connect to anything. But now she's trying to use it today and it won't connect due to DNS issues. Would it be the phone at fault or the laptop? I already tried refreshing the IP using command prompt but it didn't help.
something my last desire never had and something i didn't even know the ns had. after completely screwing up the build system on ubuntu here, it was something i desperately needed. my wifi drivers are borked, so i can't access wifi and was considering a complete reformat, until i noticed the menu option...
thank you ns!
Yeah pretty sweet, i use the portable hto spot option quite a bit , very nifty indeed
btw: is there something like tho opposite of that? sharing a wired pc internet connection with the ns via usb.
Yes. You connect the USB to your nexus s. Then you don't turn on the USB storage. Go to settings wireless options and click on tether.

Hmm maybe a dev will get on top of this
Oh ic. Sorry. I read that wrong. I don't think There is a simple way to do it. I remember there's a program that lets you turn your laptop into a wireless router. You plug in the Ethernet to your laptop and use the program to transmit the radio like a router. You can probably then use the phone's wifi to connect to that. Ive never tried it but theoretically it should work. Good luck

usb tethering is not something like
" i connect my laptop with the usb port of my NS that(my phone) has internet access over the mobile network and i can use that on my laptop either"??
i mean wi-fi tethering is "sharing" phone's internet connection with other phones/wi-fi enabled devices to access the internet via wireless connection...
so usb tethering should be the same but with cable obviously..
or am i getting something wrong here?

no. that's a hotspot. meaning devices connect to your ns like a router. you can even set a password and session id for your phone
is it possible?
please no questions of "why do you need that"
or why not wifi
yes it is possible. if you have stock Atrix firmware there are multiple threads about tethering. I believe you will at least have to rooted. If you have unlocked bootloader I think some of the custom roms have tethering enabled.
THIS app is what I use for USB wired tethering.
PDAnet my friend
You may be confused about what the OP is asking. He wants to use the internet connection from his PC for his Atrix to piggyback on. I don't know about USB, but if you have a wireless adapter, you can run the program connectify and the atrix can see your PC internet as a wifi connection.
