Yes, another TF3D question.... - XPERIA X1 General

I get my X1a tomorrow and I have the following questions that I was unable to find after massive reading of many posts.
1. Is TF3D running and stable on X1?
2. I understand landscape mode is available now? Stable?
3. Can you run TF3D as a standalone interface versus running it as a panel, and I assume this makes it run much smoother (since I'm reading that panels consume a lot of power).
4. Can someone point me to or post a pic of the TF3D dialer and incoming call screen (TOUCH-IT-BLACKSTONE-DIALER to be exact). It does replace the hiddeous little incoming WM call screen right?
5. What is the difference between the MANILA TouchFlo and Blackstone? That's where the confusion is coming in.
6. Are there ANY limitations running TF3D on Xperia, I don't want to loose any functionality of my Xperia, so is there any part/function that doesn't work with TF3D?
7. Where can I find the end all be all step by step instructions for installing the most stable and functional TF3D? Is it the TF3D Blackstone (Touch-IT)?
Than you in advance.

yea, same here, im getting my x1 tmw, and i had gotten used to the touchflo 3d interface... however, one thing i absolutely HATE about touchflo is that it forces you to use htcaudio manager, it is absolute piece of junk when it comes to playlist and organizing the music, i just wish somehow and someone is skilled enough to tweak it and use something else to play music

Yeah I have an iPhone right now. I've always used WM devices before and I love my iPhone for many reasons, but I hate it for just as many reasons as well. I'm fed up with Apple even with a jailbroken iPhone I'm tired of the lack of BASIC stuff. I want an open phone again. So I'm going back to WM. I'm really going to just test out this SEX1 to see if I like it It's going to be hard leaving my iPhone after I got so used to it. I've always hated the SEX1 Panel interface, it's garbage in my opinion. Even worse there are like 12 panels. That really sucks. A poor attempt at putting a frontend on WM. HTC has always been on the right track when it comes to a WM frontend so seeing it ported to the SEX1 is great. I just hate unstable equipment so I'm not willing to risk stability for looks just yet. Hence the 50 million questions.

1. yes
2. only a workaround for now, but I guess it will fixed VERY soon
3. yes
4. sorry, use search an you'll find It. Look for yota dialer also, very nice. Anyway, yes again, they replace the ugly wm one
5. manila and tflo3d are the same thing. ManilaHD is for wvga (as xperia) resolution but it's the same interface
6. As said, landscape for now, but I guess it will fixed VERY soon
7. Yes. Go to rom subforum, start reading about flashing and then have a look to itje rom (my favourite ) or something else that includes tflo3d... All custom rom are pretty mature now
and... yes panels sucks for me also

im using an iphone right now too... after 4 months with it, besides the touch sensitivity and the audio player, i hated every other aspects of it; weak 3g reception, insufficient memory causing the programs to exit, no multi-program running, etc
im coming from symbian to wm to iphone, while i like symbian very much, but i think wm is probably the best fit for me

Thanks guap!

Thanks guap! But what do you mean by landscape is a workaround? I assume it either works or doesn't work. Since it appears to work, what part about it is a workaround?

I mean this -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=476163
read about his limitations... It's a very good work but in fact is a daemon that poll landscape state triggering an action screen rendered by an external program. Complicated.
A proper version will be a manila with embedded landscape support. We should have it in 24h for blackstone according to dutthroy announcements in blackstone forum, and then hope even on our xperia as they are very similar devices

Hmm
I also have been using an iPhone for almost 2 years now. Just switched to the Xperia 2 weeks ago. as a hater of Apple I thought this device would make my life easier. On the whole it's nicer, but simple things like the touch sensitivity of the screen make a huge difference and "pressing" is somewhat difficult on the Xperia after using the extremely responsive "touch" interface of the iphone. My iPhone was used mostly for music and it does that much nicer than my xperia. (Why does the music stop when i press the power button to turn screen off on xperia?) also the email is much more fnctional because wifi switching and email checking seems to work much nicer on the iPhone without killing the battery. I have had to disable wifi on my xperia and disable autochecking email just to make the battery last a day.
All that being said, having installed the TouchFlo3D cab, the phone is muuuuuuch less responsive and the "touch" sensitivity of the TF3D is much worse than even the standard interface. (Pressing "comms" in the settings tab sometimes doesnt work for me if it's already highlighted after aving just exited the comms manager.)

tweak the pressure treshold to fit your needs with schap's advanced config. BUT READ carefully before do it.
Winmobile is customizable, we are not apple

thats not normal ... of course u can turn the screen off and listen to music at the same time ..

After I've updated my firmware, TF3D is very smooth on my xperia. No issues at all. And also I have it as a panel. No crashes yet.

Yeh, I didn't think it was normal, that's why it annoys me so much. I end up leaving it with the screen on in my pocket until it times out, but then it ends up getting pressed accidently.
Anyone know of a possible cause/solution? I listen to music every day and I really want it back to normal with power button turning screen off but music still plays.
Thank.

Hi all,
I've release PocketCM Contacts 0.29, feel free to test, comment, etc...
I made a new thread, because the old one isn't really manageable anymore, and this version is a big rewrite of lot of stuff, so I expect a few regression issue.
Theme for 0.18 and before will not work correctly with this version, you need 0.29 theme
Support for SMS forwarding
Support for sending SMS to multiple contact at once
Better VGA support: more usable, react better to the finger, improved Black and Dream theme
Big speed improvment on animation (looks nice on VGA now)
Speed optimization for all text rendering (smoother than ever)
Various fix and improvements
Faster SMS loading
Improved theme developer mode: read here

Hi
Just loaded it up, changed it to the black skin, which i like best. Seems to run great, haven't run into any problems yet. Very nice work, mate.
One think i did notise is, that when I go into a contact, the "Back" is missing the right side of the "B". Just the vertical part. No biggie, but still guess it's not suppose to be like that.
Keep up the great work.
Flemming
this is truly the best tool ever for pdas. thanks a million times for your hard work.
Great update you're doing a great job.
Loading times is better than 0.15, which is a great improvement.
IMHO - the only thing missing is a keyboard easy to find a contact, and the best one I could find is the one found in FingerFriendlyFriends program. I truly love that keyboard. Implementing it in PocketCM would make it simply perfect.
Keep up the awesome work!!

Guys, how do I do this ?

Why do you need a keyboard when all you have to do is slide your finger down the side of the screen to get the alphabet bar, it doesn't get much easier than that!
Install from a zip: copy the files
Filtering with keyboard: click on phone (bottom right) and you can filter easily
great job.
Few messages are missing, for instance when you want to delete a contact.
Tene, I love the start-up time now, it has dramatically decreased. My only quirks: It seems like the scrolling feature has a delay, I will flick and it will stall a second and then it will scroll very fast. It doesnt seem as smooth as iContact. Also, when pushing the favorites tab I think the word favorites should change to All after it is pressed because pressing it again leads back to all the contacts. When you used to have buttons the filter used to change to the all contacts button after you press it, why does it not when its just words? overall great though, good work Tene

Did u try it?? it 1000 times easier to use that keyboard than scrolling with your finger, at least that's my opinion.
And since there's already a keyboard why not use a better one

Yes I have tried it and I do like it as well. However it does take up a good amount of screen real estate and for this reason I would rather not see it implemented.
Thanks .... Very Good Job But Still have the bug when I press and hold phone .... its minimize by it self and i can not press close button... why !!! idon not know
do i need to uninstall 0.15 first?
much better than previous version on the athena. runs fast now and very good. only quirk is it seems the animation for the filter is slow though on vga and lags. seems like sms animation lags a bit too. but much better than previous versions
Ive only noticed one bug, when using the the side scroll to go to contacts by letter, if i try to scroll all the way down to the end of my contacts, it does the bounce animation and half the screen (left) shows the end of my contact list and the other half (right) shows the beginning of my contact list starting at "A"
I dont have any "X", "Y", or "Z" contacts in my phone either so i dont know if that helps
thanks for making such an amazing piece of software.
Can we use the themes we made for the previous version, or do we have to start from scratch?
Love the app by the way!!
Wow.. loading time is nice now. I like it a lot (black theme). Looks much cleaner and more crisp.
Nice improvement!
Same buggies as already said in the topic, when using side scroll (a/z) and I select the z the screen seems to break up a bit. Also don't have Z in my phonebook.
And yeah, the B of 'Back' is a bit too far to the left, but that seems more like a skinning thingy.
Other than that it's working great so far!

If I understand correctly you have to start from scratch because a lot has changed for the skinning.
New skinning has much more options and can be much more customized as far as I know. Also has gradients done with color codes rather than images.
Haven't tried it out yet (the skinning) but this is what I've read here and there.
I thought I had seen that somewhere as well...that sucks, I just got to the point I made a couple skins I like (for me, that is quite the accomplishment LOL)!!!!
I have a suggestion to make it even faster for some cases.
It seems you do a lot more processing than necessary to activate the PocketCM window on launch if it's already open.
If PocketCM is already running, switching to PocketCM from a task manager is much quicker than launching the .exe again. So maybe you can optimize your launch code to look for an existing instance earlier in your code and active it if it's already running.

Navigating without D-Pad (Physical or Optical)???

Hi all!
I am currently using the Touch Cruise, upgraded to it from an Artemis, and i love it. Now am planning to upgrade to the Touch HD. I really loved the device looks and screen size!
But my biggest doubt is - How exactly do we navigate around?
The iPhone is totally different and made in a way that u wouldnt need the dpad at all ever. But the Windows Mobile OS isnt like that.
For example - in the Dialer screen, how do i go down the call list, in the dialer mode itself (not in call history) and well, more small things like these which actually require a "d-pad" or atleast an optical dpad.
I was also considering the SonyEricssion Xperia X1, but dropped it due to the lovely screen of the Touch HD. But now i am thinking again.
Please help guys, please do give ur comments as to what is the technology behind the HD for better navigation - without a dpad.
Thanks.

yeh, i would really like to know too! For example, the moneycontrol.com app in JBed works only with the dpad, so this will pretty much be the deal maker/breaker for me...anyone?
For the most part, you'll be swiping the screen with with a stylus or any of your fingers.
In other parts, wherever you're able to pop up the onscreen keyboard, you can use the added directional keys on the onscreen keyboard.
I think as long as one is shielded by Touch controls from the underlying WinMobile controls the HD will shine. Without a Dpad one will have to use the stylus even more. That is one of WinMobile's weaknesses vs. OSX iPhone - it is not Touch from the ground up. But maybe a G1 ported Android for the HD will change this for us...
Hmm...
Thanks for ur comments guys, in that case, it looks that the SonyEricsson Xperia X1 is much better than this "usage" vise, and the Touch HD is more a cosmetic thing, wherein u get a bigger screen than the iPhone, but actually is slowing down ur working!
IF i am to take out stylus often, then its definately a bad phone! Thanks to the Dpad cum scroll wheel in the Touch Cruise, my phone usage is so much easier! i had problems slightly with the P3300 (Artemis) but this is like one step advanced to that.
Now the Xperia X1 is coming wtih a physical DPAD, AND also an Optical dpad/joystick! which i think is fantastic!
What do u guys think of it? Should i go for the Xperia X1 rather? or would the Touch HD be better than that?
Thanks.
:bump:
So how DID people adjust. I played around one briefly in the Orange shop yesterday, but I'm still not convinced.
I'm moving over from a Nike (touch dual) so use the D-Pad quiet a bit. Most when texting!
Thoughts please people!
i miss the dpad too on my htc thd..
speaking of popping the onscreen keyboard and using the direction buttons, is there a software which acts as an input method? just the arrow keys only to use as a dpad.. if not someone cud develop it.. i wud really do if i knew
mayb that wud make matters better for thd users.. wel hey, its better to hav just something rather than nothing at all
I'm still very new to my HD and pretty new to these fancy gadgets in general. From the little bit of research I've done so far though you can use 3rd party apps to remap the volume buttons to move up and down, and there's another app or 2 that is attempting to turn the g-sensor into a virtual d-pad as well.
I'm guessing it won't be long before these issues are perfected.
For the most part though, we're able to just swipe around the screen to scroll through the contact list, programs, etc.
Generally HTC has attempted to make it easier to use the device without the stylus, but Windows Mobile wasn't made that way, so you will almost certainly need to use the stylus.
Case in point - how did HTC/MS allow this to happen?
Start contacts, navigate down to the contact you want to call, but somehow, call the Work telephone number, NOT the default mobile number.
Normally you'd D-Pad down to choose the contact, d-pad left and right to choose the contact number (w for work, m for mobile etc), and dpad in to dial it. Try doing that with the blackstone.
Sigh. It's a lovely piece of hardware, but you miss the dpad when you don't have it.
But, at least HTC's modfications are a good start (elphantine start menu, menu for notification icons etc, menu for volume adjustment). I just can't stand them!
I've remapped a long press of the power button to bring up a virtual dpad instead. It makes life so much easier - makes me feel at home on the device, and the extra long screen resolution means it hardly interferes with normal usage when it's on screen.

@fredskis - Swiping left and right is ok, but I find using the dialer and contacts somewhat hit and miss with the biotouch gestures. As I've said elsewhere, it just about works, but it's not perfect (I work in London, and accurate swiping on the Tube is a PITA). Again, I love the huge screen, but it's a shame the dpad had to go with it.
Segueing neatly on, @goody, I'm using a virtual dpad app that I wrote. It was just a quick idea I had, but I've found it extremely helpful. It's still a work in progress, as there are many more features I want to write in, but even now I find it indispensible.

Hi guys,
Sorry about shooting off of my handle, but VJVirtualMouseWinFX (code name, for now, certainly needs a better name) is not released yet.
I think there are many apps that can support a virtual dpad as that's not difficult to achieve, but I've re-written mine to support a virtual mouse (works like the Omnia's optical mouse pad, but hopefully better ) and dpad support amongst other features. I have to say, the Virtual Mouse thing was and is one of the hardest bits of code I've had to puzzle over .
I've just got a few more tweaks to make before it'll be ready for release, so not too long to go, I hope!

I have the D2 sensor intalled so do I still need flip it?
Nothing new here or am I missing something Averma?
Bepe's excellent Gnes.dll and Alphazeros and swtos equally excellent FlipIt front end for it have been around for nearly six months now. I even did a tut for it way back then.
How to Make FlipIt (GNES mod) and LandscapeManila work
I do think Flip_IT_by_WildBerry_Team.cab has been under reported and is one of the most useful rotation utilities around for the diamond. Many of the recent Roms already have landscape manila included and sdkcerts disabled.
So for any users who are after simply wanting Landscape manila I would recommend simply adding FlipIt first. You might find that is all you need to do if you are already running a recent cooked ROM. This has been the case with pretty well all the ROMs I have used in the past few months. If you are using a stock ROM on the other hand you may need to follow the three steps mentioned by averma because the landscape manila will probably be missing.
Now that a fair bit of water has gone under the bridge I wonder if we can persuade the Wildberry guys with Bepes approval to do a tiny bit more work on FlipIt. A better icon maybe and one or two other minor tweaks.
you can try installing everything but Flip it and see if it works, if not as far as i know Flip it is different from other Gsensor apps because it doesn't actually landscape the phone, it instead emulates the touchpro's keyboard sliding out (causing the screen to landscape)
remember to post your experience, if it worked, and if any errors anywhere incase i need to update
I just tried, CANNOT use without flip it and only with gryator 2.
i just wonder is that a Music tab available for the landscape mode? maybe need to wait for the one from touchpro2 ...
Very good! this is exactly what I want! many thanks!

Ya I'm putting this up for anyone using a stock or cooked rom without Landscape support. I realize this has been around for some time now but it was fairly hard to find.
The main reason I'm doing this as well is the files floating around became so dated, the old files for this are just painfully slow, and most people have to either resort to that or do it themselves, also this doesn't void warranty (as its just a cab files = no Hard SPL required)
This version is built off of the latest official TouchPRO rom I could find. I'm running an older 2.0 I cooked myself because i like the reliability and stability of it But because these are pulled from a 2.03 equivalent touchpro rom I noticed a massive speedbost in scrolling and just overall better performance (not to mention landscape ).
Basically what i'm saying is this will be useful for people who don't SPL or people who are running a slower version of manila (or whoever wants it)
Also... THEEEEMEESSSS !!! lol
Fair enough. The Slide White Theme looks nice by the way. Might try start a dedicated FlipIt thread as well, because like you say - it is hard to find and it probably warrants one given how useful it is.
the FLIT_IT is actually different from G-config/Diamond2 Gsensor & Gyrator 2! Only Flip_it work with the touchPRO landscape manila & the landscape incoming call.
Is it because it emulate KEYBOARD OUT as well?
The only problem of FLIP_IT is that I cannot toggle / turn it off temporary ....
CDMA Touch diamond landscape
It works great on the cdma version of the touch diamond. Flip it is required for it to work, i think flip is a great program to use for screen rotation for the touch diamond....
Is it possible to use this landscape mode instead of the default one in the Rhodium manila vga port?

This is really cute and all but I was wondering if this is available for the Sprint HTC Touch Pro and also if it's possible for me to keep my Sprint theme ('cause I really think it's cute with all of the neon colors the Sprint theme has [This theme is cute too but black and white would make my phone look utterly dull]) but still have TouchFlo 3D enabled on my device?
Oh and does anyone know how to activate landscape mode on messages?
It's pretty stupid how the on-screen keyboard is enabled when you pull out the keyboard.
Thanks

This should be able to install on any diamond/pro (Justin41689 confirmed working on CDMA)
the theme would probably have to be reinstalled, i think its available here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=489531
as for your landscape keyboard problem you can try the attached PQzII cab. (can't remember where i got it) but it enables a different SIP on portrait and a different SIP on landscape.
you could probably set your regular keyboard for portrait, and a null keyboard for landscape > solving your popup keyboard problem
Also you probably won't need flip it if your using the keyboard to rotate the screen. but it you want autorotate with G-sensor then it is required
Averma, how can I buy you a beer/coffee/donate whatever??!! You just fixed the annoying problem I have had with my Fuze since upgrading the stock ROM to the new HTC ROM! Landscape icons were white blocks and would freeze like that when you went back to portrait. Did your install, reinstalled themes and BANG! Perfectly working Fuze (although that's a bit of an oxymoron).
Thanks!

[Skin] FEB 22, 2010 Perf upgd for the KBD: added PSD's

Some people might remember me from the Wizard forums...
it has been a long time since I made a public contribution on this forum, but the time has come that I will be making another one soon. it is not a full rom as of yet, but it is somthing that might be just as good.
If you look in my signature I have been working and testing a theory that graphics processing is a major contributer to laggy interface. one of the problems is the keyboard that we have come to depend on (the on screen keyboard made by HTC)
this keyboard has about 100 image files that the cpu has to process some from the PNG files and most in the SIPBITMAPS.DLL . well, I went through all of them 88 in the dll + the png files. got rid of the dithering, made uniform color schemes and overall optimised the gfx to be as light weight as possible. so light in fact that the package weighs nearly 25% less than the original one made by HTC.
I need some testers. ones who type really fast with the EZ INPUT KEYBOARD. once it is tested and proven that it is in fact faster, I will release it to the public. those interested in testing, PM me so that I can send you the CAB and directions (testting conditions)
If you have bench marking programs that would help too.
thanks for testing.
P.S. the point of this exersise is to give me a reason to "fix" the lag in the 10mb of ram eating phone skin which take a full 2 seconds to load. I figur if the keyboard is improved the most vital part of our phones should be fixed. it just takes a lot more work for those files... and it better be worth spending more than tree days of my time fixing it.

the best way to test it is to do a soft reset; put on an mp3 file (once the phone boots and loads everything, so let the manila start up and load every tab. turn on the mp3; go into the notepad app and start typing while the music is playing. about half way through the song rotate the device (if you use the gyro rotation) and test how long it takes to catch up. (the rotation causes lag)
do the same thing with the modded gfx cab that I provided on the first post.
You can also do the test without the music playing, but the results will not be as apparent.

[EDIT 2/18/10] For those who do not have the same version of 2.1 keyboard and may have a different layout, I attached the XML files out of my package. I don't know if it will work to fix your layout, but it might. let me know if it works
[EDIT 2/22/2010] I added My PSD files for those who wish to change the skin in any way. I also added a comment for the .zip file.
For those who wish to change the background to a SOLID grey, you just need to change the black background to a grey of your choice. for those who wish to have the old dithered background with a lot of colors, then just make the black layer invisible (although the keyboard will run slower)
HINT: when it comes to PNG's, black is least in bytes as opposed to GIF's where it is oposite. With bitmaps it does not matter, what matters ultimately is the complexity of the pixel mosaic.
Have fun
A great idea! That must've taken quite a while to figure out
But I'm not really a fast typer when it comes to the on-screen keyboard, so I'll wait for the (possibly) public release.
does not seem like there is much interest.
either due to the holiday, or what?
I tested it last night while playing music and there is no lag. there is a bit of a lag when rotating to landscape, but only lasts about two seconds and the lag is gone. (while playing music) maybe I should post some screens or have the mods move ot to the dev/hack section. some people rely on the screen keyboard only.
I would like to test this out.
I think I can type pretty fast on the on-screen keyboard, well, if it allowed me to. Primarily I find myself having to slow down when I hit space. Sometimes I'll go so fast the space input doesn't register, effectively merging the words together.

Hey man, I'll give it a test drive for you...just know that I'm on the stock T-mobile US 6.1 ROM. I'm sure I'll be texting as much this afternoon as ever, so I'll give it a try and see how it feels.
ADDED THE CAB ON THE FIRST POST sorry for the caps.
try it and let me know how it works for you. seems a lot faster than the original.
I also just installed the russian cab, and it is slow as hell in comparison. so I know it works.
enjoy.
I think that if I make a new phone skin, I will have to do it on the basis of donations recieved for the keyboard. just too much work.

Just saw your update, and grabbed the .cab, will start using it first thing in the AM, and have impressions by end of the day.
Thanks a lot for the effort either way...I'm trying every improvement to the on-screen kb that I can find, to make me less jittery about moving to the HD2 in a month or two
I tested your cab, and it does seem to respond better, and the letter's pop up faster. I'm probably not the fastest phone typer, but the original files would not keep up with me. With your fixed files, it seems to do a much better job, although still not as fast as I type. I'm running IME 1922/2011, so I'm not 100% sure how much of a difference it makes, but if you want I can run a spb benchmark with 1920 before and after installing your speedy files.
Glad to see you in the WVGA stuff, I used some of your stuff when I had an omnia.
I installed it a few mins ago and I can already notice quite a difference. Before, like ^^ he said, the buttons would not keep up with me typing, but now that lag is completely gone. I would say it is a very noticeable difference if you use the soft keyboard much. Thank you very much. (BTW, I am on the 2/14 SSS R8.5 ROM with Manila 2012)
I think the trick to doing a comparison is do a soft reset; turn on some long mp3 and type. first with the original keyboard, then with mine (black background and dithering removed).
I'm glad that it is working better for you... hopefully this will be a good performance upgrade for all of us.
The damn phone skin has such complicated gfx that I will have to make a different dialer button (the red and green one) it won't look as nice, but the interface should behave a little faster... especially when cooked in.
tested on my topaz with last duttys ROM 6.5.3 and its better ty
Not working correctly on Sprint Version
Everything seems a bit faster, but the symbol on the space bar is mess up.
Instead of the regular symbol there's just a line in down the middle of the space bar. Function wise, works perfect. Mike
Sprint TP2 Stock 6.1
HUGE difference!
Ok, so I've been trying this out all morning, and I have to say it's a dramatic improvement of the response speed of the on-screen keyboard
My error rate has also dropped significantly since using it...I thought I was usually just fat-fingering a lot of keys, but now that they respond much faster I'm making 10% of the typos I did before.
I've also noticed that part of what makes it faster is how its quicker to pull up the symbol (punctuation, etc) on a long-press, that was one of the first things I noticed when trying it.
It looks good too, I think, save for that split-spacebar mentioned above. Oh, and one minor detail...the graphic for the XT9 switch doesn't change when you toggle it. I almost never use that, so not a big deal to me, just an fyi.
So....great job S.V.I, thanks!! If I can get the on-screen KB on the HD2 (once I get it) to be this smooth, I won't feel nearly as bad about it not having a physical KB

which version are you using???
IME_EzInput_Western_2_1_19202429_00 is the one in my rom stock tmo 6.5
I do not have the issue with the space bar not showing up right.
also, just to make sure that I uploaded the right cab, is the space bar in a grey box or a black box (meaning the background) are you using a different language?? can you post a screenshot?
Will this work on any TP2, GSM and CDMA?

That explains it. the EZINPUT in the 6.1 rom is 2.0 while in the 6.5 rom it is 2.1
the SIPBitmaps dll is different. that would explain why you do not have the xt9 button showing up either. it is a different version of the keyboard.

Understood, that makes sense. It really doesn't seem to have any impact on the overall effectiveness of your changes, so those two minor things don't bother me at all.
I've been using it all day now, and it looks like this will finally let me give the slider on my HW keyboard a much-needed break!
Fantastic idea, great work! I'll test it out now...

New Blackstone User - few q's

Hi Guys,
I've just got a HTC Touch HD. I've got a few questions.
1. With HTC Interface disabled, on the normal start menu there is a gap at the top, I'm wondering how I can get rid of this
2. The font on the start menu is too big and other menus too, any way to change this via registry? and also the font on dropdown (well drop up) Menus.
3. Any way to get the default windows 6.1 style volume control instead of the HTC One?
4. Getting rid of the HTC Style input selection and replacing with normal windows type.
5. Is there anyway to get the "New" menu on the Today Screen on WM6.1, pretty sure i've had it on other wm6 phones
6. Is there any "must do" tweaks on this device to improve performance and functionality, I've found that it's not much more responsive/fast as my old HTC Himalaya using the classic WM6.1 Screen. Photos seem to zoom in quite jerky on the Touchflo interface etc, just expected a bit more from this quite new device, and the game "Teeter" also seems a bit slow, would have thought the 500mhz processor would be more than enough to play it smoothly, seems the only device that I've seen play it smoothly is the 1.2ghz HD2. Also a HTC HD Fake I had, with a Marvell Monohans chip ran much faster.
7. How Can i Change the fronts on the today screen to the normal type, I have put Clearview off but it's still the "calibri" type font, wondering how to change
to the normal font like this :

8.
Also I'm having a problem with my GPS, my program cant detect it, the program I'm using is called GPS Performance it cant connect to the GPS.
In the "External GPS" Option, what settings should be selected on the Programs port, hardware port, Baud rate and should I use the "Manage gps automatically" checkbox. I find that It doesn't let me change the Hardware port, it's set to none.
Thanks guys, P.S I've read the FAQ's before posting.
1. the gap at the top of the start menu will eventually fill up with your recently used programs in big icon style.
2. the font size can be changed with HDTweak, a must have program for the blackstone
3. if you on't like it at all, you can look up a rom that does not have it, or install another volume control, and then uninstall it again, that way, it should revert to windows mobile standard, and not htc standard.
4. have a look into input options, afaik the stock rom still comes with all the classic input options like keyboard, block recognizer, transcriber...
5. what menu exactly, describe a little more or make a screenshot.
6. the blackstone by default has 528mhz, the leo has 1ghz, and if even teeter does not run smoothly, you might want to perform a hard reset or have a look which rom is installed and change that, either to the latest stock rom or to a cooked rom. that behaviour is not normal
7. you can change fonts by putting new fonts in the windows\fonts\ folder and use a tweak app to apply them (i'm not sure, whether they all have fonts options though)
8. the external gps option, as the name points out, is for the use with an external gps receiver, which would be connected via bluetooth. it has nothing to do with the internal one. all programs that use the gps should have the option "gps managed by windows" or "internal gps". using that setting you have to do nothing more to set up gps. for instance: i use gps in manila, google maps, klicktel and navigon mobile navigator. manila and klicktel didn't need any gps settings, in google maps you just need to activate "use gps" and in navigon, where there are detailed gps settings for all kinds of devices, i just set "let windows manage my gps". you never have to set a com port, baud rate... if you are asked for those settings, you picked the wrong option in the first place.
no offense, but let me ask you a question: i know we talked before, about the classic wm6.1 home screen. these are many questions that are very special and all revolve around the basic interface of winmo. do you really need every single thing to be exactly like with old devices like the himalaya? windows mobile was developed further than that and most of the development is a good thing. for one thing, winmo distanced itself a bit from being a pda to becoming a phone, that could be used for fun as well and it has become finger-friendly. castrating this wonderful finger-friendly phone to becoming a mid-2000's pda, with the need for stylus control and an ugly interface does not make sense to me. i had a blueangel and a universal for years, and i know the pda feeling from all the time i used them with stock wm2003se (and stock wm5 respectively). then i got bored and tried cooked roms, and in the end, when i knew, the devices are too weak and lack a lot of hardware features (g-sensor, gps, ambient light sensor, stylus sensor, 3.5g, proper camera...), i decided to get myself a blackstone, and basicly, after a few minutes of getting used to it, i am happy about all the change, that's why i bought a new phone.
so why did you buy a new phone, to castrate it to behave just like a very old phone?
Hi Tony,
1. Thanks, I just noticed that it fills up with recent programs, anyway to remove this Gap though, it is useful for some people but I don't have much use for it
2. Thanks, Will try that out
5. I want to get this menu at the bottom :
6. Yeah I would think that 528mhz is enough to run Teeter as smooth as possible but on the HD2 its much smoother, I wouldn't think that game would require a very fast processor, I don't know if the Drivers for rendering graphics are bad on some of the Blackstone ROMS? or would it be the Teeter game itself? Anyone found a way to smoothen it up. I don't know if it's true but I've been reading lots of info saying Qualcomm Chipsets are junk for Video/Graphics.
As for the responsiveness of General usage, I don't know if the stock ROM is somewhat a bottleneck.
7. Thanks will try that
8. Ok, I had that set to Automatic, my program asks me which Port and Baud rate? What should I select, I went through all the Ports and it cant connect, I guess it might be a problem with the program, I'll see if the GPS Apps pick it up.
Also I might ask on this thread instead of starting a new one, my computer keeps telling me that I need Flash Player 8 to run the Getting Started disk, but I have already installed flash player and it still asks, other people have had this problem too. I've got Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Really, I am not a fan of Flashy interfaces with clouds descending and vibrating storms to tell me what the weather is, HD tried to copy Apple, but the Touchflo interface is often slow, buggy and non responsive, it's better in the Leo but on Blackstone it's somewhat problematic. I'm just used to the old Pocket PC's wtih the old Interface. The only reason I bought a Blackstone was for a higher res screen, better camera and Wifi
Another question - I've noticed the Blackstone seems to have no dedicated graphics/video accelerator that Coreplayer can support, so the Video playback is pretty appalling for a device named "HD". I have a video that isn't even the resolution of the screen of the HD and it only benchmarks at about 75% playback speed.
Is there any drivers that can make use of the MSM Chipset to give good video performance? I don't know but I thought the predecessor HTC Diamond had a 3D Accelerator. I'm not at all keen on converting every single episode on my computer using the Application for video playback on the HD that is out, so any chance to improve playback on the HD with coreplayer? Again coming from a person who had a Himalaya, it had an ATI Imageon chip that coreplayer supported.
