Blue angel (XDA IIs) Wifi problems - Networking

Can anyone help. I've been searching all morning but I'm getting nowhere...
First my setup. I've got Orange internet (ADSL) so connect to the net using its (inventel) livebox. Connected to that is a Netgear (DSL) WNR834B which I have to use as a network switch as the livebox only has 2 lan ports,
(just for info Livebox is 192.168.1.1, netgear 192.168.1.5)
After nearly 1 week of trying I've finally got my XDA IIs to connect to my Netrgear router (thanks to my brother and his XDA Orbit).
But I cannot for the life of me get my XDA to connect via Wifi to the internet. I have a wifi connection, but everytime I try to access the net it tries to use GPRS.
I've tried all the help I can find on the XDA itself and tried (and failed) to setup a work network, and route all internet via that (can't find a way of doing this as the wifi isn't even listed...). Tried looking on the Wiki and searched for similar problems on this site. Nothing seems to work.
Can't remember where but I tired to set up proxy to go via 192.168.1.1. Didn't work...
1 week of getting it to connect to the router to fall at the next hurdle... Help.
BTW my brothers XDA orbit connects via my router with no problems. All pages are displayed.
Can anyone help??
'Fraid to say I'm ok with normal cable networking but this Wifi is giving me a headache.
Thanks

XDAIIi Wifi access over home router to browse PC apps etc

I got me a new 2i, and now want to use the wifi function from home as well as hotpspts etc.
I got me a Linksys Wireless-G 54mbps Broadband Router (Back compatibale with 11 b)
Any usefull tips on which software I can use to connect to my home pc and browse to my documents/mp3's/ etc and stream to the 2i?
Also with this I would like to be able to set up a VPN from the 2i so i can remotley connect to my desktop pc when away from home, and do this from a hotspot etc.
Any advise?
Thanks
Just use pocket IE or file explorer and type in the UNC path of the location on your home PC, e.g. \\HOMEPC\MYMUSIC.
Could you let me know which version you are using for the XDA IIi and which model WAP? I've been trying to get my IIi to work with a 3COM OfficeConnect WAP to no avail (both work and home). Work WAP is carrying about 5 different client WIFI cards (and a HP IPAQ). Home WAP is carrying 3 different WIFI cards. No problems in either case. Just my XDA IIi is unhappy. Home WAP is running the lastest firmware from 3COM and Work WAP is running original firmware. My XDA IIi doesn't work with either. I have managed to get the XDA to WIFI on a neighbour's WAP working. Which seems to indicate that XDA IIi is OK.
I've seen another post where there was a problem with a linksys 54g / XDA IIi

Anybody got any ideas?
UPDATE: Got IP address @ work wap from MS DHCP server. Can ping/traceroute using vxUtils, but the device doesn't appear to "know" it's connected. IE, etc still tries to use GPRS.

Internet connection over VPN over Wifi
I am also unable to keep a vpn connection going with my wifi. Any help appreciated.

I managed to establish a connection and got access to the internet via a VPN-Server in the local network connected via Wifi to my XDA mini. I had also problems with vpn connection going down.
Unfortunately I have some troubles with my Wifi card, so I don't have the exact settings. But AFAIR the problem was solved by doing this:
- Going to Settings->Connections->Connections->Advanced->Execptions
- Using New URL to add "*" and "*/*".
(I have a german version, so I'm not sure, how the buttons are labled in english)
I think the problem is, that the software thinks, VPN connects always to the INTRAnet at your workplace. By adding this "Exections" you tell the device, that the hole internet is included in the intranet.
Maybe there is a routing tool for PPC which can solve this, too?

Wi-Fi help for Mini s XDA on O2/Wanadoo

I have two problems that are driving me to distraction. 1) I cannot find anybody that can tell me the correct settings for Mini xda connecting to my Wi-Fi wanadoo livebox. I have tried calling Wanadoo and O2 without success. I have tried connecting via WEP and entering the long 24 digit network key, but there is only space for 20 digits on the XDA.. Secondly I cannot disable GPRS as a default - apparently there is no way to do this apart from deleting the GPRS settings and I'd rather not. Any help/guidance gratefully received !!
Haven't got an answer for you on the Wanadoo question, but my livebox arrives in a couple of weeks so I'll keep an eye on this thread.
For your other question, my xda mini s will select wireless ahead of GPRS if it has a good enough connection. It only defaults to GPRS when wireless is off or not a strong enough connection. Sometimes, I think that it should be choosing wireless, but more often than not I find that the wireless connection has dropped out.
Does yours not work this way?
Mini XDA Wi-Fi
Hi
Your configuration sounds great, I cannot test this at the moment because I cannot get connected to the Wi-fi livebox. The livebox keeps asking me for a network key - I use the WEP key from the base of the livebox but it still will not connect, I have it set as WEP Shared access but to no avail. (Ironically my laptop connects OK to the livebox using WPA-PSK protocol, even though wanadoo tell me it will only work with WEP)
Unfortunately O2 do not support Wi-Fi and Wanadoo (orange) do not support mobile devices - so there is no help from anywhere.
Getting over the GPRS always connecting is quite easy, just set up a dummy network and get the browser to point to that when opening instead of the GPRS. However as I cannot get access to Wi Fi I cannot see if my xda operates in the same way as yours. I am just hoping that someone out there uses an xda via Wanadoo(Orange) and can give me the settings.....
Ok, I don't know about the Wanadoo, haven't seen this device until today (looks interesting though) but here is what I know about WEP/WAP keys on PPC devices:
You have to type the hex values, even if you are using a pass phrase on the router (the Wanadoo in your case).
Also XDA mini (Wizard?) should be able to connect with WAP-PSK so why not try same settings as your laptop.
Just a thought.
Thanks for the advice, however I have just had a breakthrough and it is now working great. I had to go into the router config settings and temporarily switch off the security settings. This proved to me that the XDA could accept WIFI, when I switched the security back on I entered the open access WEP key into the XDA and amazingly it worked!! Even better is that it seems to auto default to WI-FI when in range and GPRS when out of range. Lets hope it stays that way!!

Problems with Wifi on the XDA Mini-s and netgear!!

Hello,
Im having major issues getting my O2 Xda Minis working on wifi.. Anyone got it working on this.. im havin awful problems configuring it to browse via wifi.. When i go to the comms manager it picks my netgear up but refuses to connect to it.. ive tried with WEP and WPA-PSK encryption but its just not having it.. any ideas?? does it even work with the netgear DG834!!
cheers
faddy
I have mine working with a Netgear 624. The problem may be that you need to upgrade your wireless router ROM for support. EDGE is good enough for me, so I dont use the WiFi too much. it is nice to have. Also if your wireless is a G make sure you have the registry hack for it.
shouldn't have to do anything at all. I turned my mini s on and it immediately picked up my wireless netgear modem router DG834G and I was surfing straight away. Don't advise you to upgrade rom thats a load of crap! sure to end in disaster imo just take a look at the number of probs people have on here when they do that.
Have you set it up for LAN connection?
You should have a shortcut to your conections manager on the bottom taskbar. Check you have the wireless connection activated
select Start, settings, connection, Lan and tell us what your settings are ?
Mine has
SSID netgear
Mode Infrastructure
BSSD 00-09-5b-CE-35-**
TX Rate auto
channel 11
signal good
Hi I have similar issues with WIFI and my netgear.
All is as above but on CH 6 and different BSSID
It seems to connect OK then with strong signal etc but then i try and go to a web page and its slow or doesn't find it.
Then another time its as fast as hell with no problems.
Checked all settings on Netgear and on MDA Vario and all seem to be ok.
Any ideas please
At the moment just connected. surfing via WIFI very fast for 7 pages now come to a dead stop but still have strong connection.
:x
I meant to upgrade the ROM on the Netgear router, not the MDA. At least check your router help section for possible conflicts and issues.

XDA Orbit connects to router but cannot access internet

Forgive me if this has been covered before, I'm new to the forum. I did a search but can't find a problem which is just the same - hence the new thread.
I have an XDA Orbit II and run Vista Home Premium on my desktop, connecting to the internet via a Netgear WiFi router. My desktop and my partner's are connected via ethernet to the router, my laptop connects via WiFi and all have normal internet access. The router is set up for WPA-PSK and TKIP with a long password and when I turn on WiFi the XDA connects to the router immediately, and shows a valid IP address - which can only have been assigned by the router, confirming the conection.
I seem to be able to be able to access the Internet from the XDA OK, but then another time I get "page not found" errors and cannot connect to any sites at all. Generally when this happens it stays that way and subsequent connections cannot access the Internet either. Deleting all details of the connection and starting again seems to restore the status quo, but in view of the time it takes to retype the 32 digit password, I'm not too keen to do that often!
Whilst the XDA shows as connected and shows an IP address, accessing the router setup does not show the XDA as a "connected device" - I presume it should?
I'm not overly technical, but this seems quite incongruous to me. Has anyone any suggestions as to how I should go about troubleshooting this? I've no idea if it is a problem with the XDA, Vista or the router.
Regards,
Bob
